The owner is very passionate about music and you can tell it from talking to him. He is friendly, was chatting with all the different customers about what they picked, and even gives good suggestions! I bought a record from a band I had never heard of before (Fox Medicine). They were in the metal section but it was cute and bright pink. I looked them up quickly and listened to a couple songs and told myself I had to get that record. The owner was chatting with me about if I liked them or not and I was honest about literally just discovering them. He gave me one of their posters free of charge! They had just performed at his store and so he had a few left. I didn't realize he was giving it to me until we were leaving, I thought he was just showing me the poster. That absolutely made my day once I realized he was just giving it to me. The variety in this store is amazing with loads of vinyl, CDs, cassettes, and even music equipment! Prices are very fair, and everything is properly labeled. Instead of me having to get my hopes up inspect the record, the front usually says the condition, pressing, if it's colored, etc. I don't have to waste my time inspecting it myself, as the staff has already done the leg work. They even have a bargain bin (wall) with great deals! Down on the floor was a box that had cheap project vinyl too. When I worked at a record store I remember teachers coming in looking for the cheapest ones they could find for a various lessons they had coming up. I'm glad The Audio Nerd has a box for people like them. The store is a little bit cramped with how small it is and with how much product they carry, but it is such a gem and so fun to flip through. You can spend an hour or two easily in there despite it being a small store. Live shows even happen here! They move some of the tables out and put a band in there. Shout out Hayden for always promoting upcoming shows there! And as if this place couldn't get any cooler, they also do punch cards too... Who has ever heard of a record store doing a punch card before? Absolutely amazing. If you are looking for a cool new record store, The Audio Nerd is a great place to check out.

Love how the price label has additional info about the condition of the vinyl. Pricing was about right. Saw some good deals, some that might be a tick high, but nothing crazy. And to support a local shop, most definitely worth it. But what really struck me was how friendly the staff were. I overheard one of the employees helping a customer and giving them really good advice, not only on selection, but how to care for their vinyl. Thoughtful! As I was checking out, they noticed my selection and next thing I knew we were talking about the band, their previous tour, their upcoming concert, etc. Another customer even joined in the convo. Everyplace I walked, there was a blend of past and present. PlayStation 4 & 5 games, alongside rows of nostalgia that ranged in clothes, toys, accessories, movies, you name it. This store embodies 90s pop culture, and not the hip hop side, but more the alternative (which is what I felt more represented me). I found a dvd I've been looking for months, in just a matter of minutes. The movies are all alphabetized, yo! It's like a thrift store, but so much more. I really liked that the Folsom location had a way bigger selection of Funko Pops than the Arden location. There is so much stuff to look through in general at this location, since it's roomier. I specifically scoured the shelves for some Funko Pops to take home, and came across the cutest Jurassic World one (shown below) that I just needed to buy. I also discovered a beautiful Elvis Funko, but that one I decided to hold off on for now. My husband bought a Mewtwo Funko as well (not shown). Most of the Funkos were in really good condition. There was a Stranger Things Funko that I really wanted but alas the previous owner had damaged the box. From a collector's standpoint, the prices are fair. Of course this location had other collectibles and items for sale, such as clothes, records, and whatnot. I've got plenty of records at home and only want to purchase very specific records these days, so I didn't really bother to look in their record aisles. The staff were friendly and chill. I will definitely return to check for more Funko Pops in the near future!

Not only do they have LPs... they have CDs. New and used. Each item is labeled with a sticker stating the condition. Besides music, they have books. New and used books for children, teens, and adults. Don't have a record player. No need to fret. They have several kinds they sell. When I dropped by, the person working told us that the shop was expanding its square footage. By April, they anticipate expanding to take over the shopfront on Sutter and Riley Street as well as keeping its current space.They will have even more inventory. Awesome! She explained that nine different people own and run sections out of this store, and to come to her or anyone else if we have questions. Books, books, books galore! Not to mention, a fantastic use of so much space. You might not know where some things are, but it makes for a heck of an adventure. They do have some areas marked, such as children's and dvds, but everything else is like looking for treasure within the Cave of Wonders. It smells like old-timey books, and you are immediately transported to another time where life was so much simpler and more beautiful. We had a fun time wandering around Winston Smith Books! The store has two floors packed with books, so there's always another shelf to check out. It's also in a really cute part of downtown Auburn, which makes it an easy stop if you're spending the day there. I love supporting independent bookstores, and this one is definitely worth popping into if you're in the area.
