I wanted to update my review from over a year ago. I would say most of what I wasn't happy with here has been fixed/improved or completely changed for the better. There has been a new manager (Marissa) and the place has turned around tremendously. The staff keeps us updated with everything going on here by sending out emails/text messages. There is now a better portal to pay rent and even a resident portal to chat with our neighbors and to keep up with the fun events. They really listened to their residents and it is much appreciated! read more

Marcela and Christian were friendly, but a new lady was hired on that has clearly never worked in a professional setting before. Rudest and most condescending person you will ever meet working in a luxury apartment front office. A new management team took over 2 years ago and there were growing pains, but felt they overcame most of them during my time there. It wasnt until my last 2 months at Artisan that I started to see why everyone was leaving We were month to month and gave a 30 day move out notice like our rental agreement requested. We scheduled an inspection a week before move out and they no showed without reason or follow up. We didnt receive a move out email regarding instructions or next steps, but saw that our unit was listed as available on the website. They were unresponsive by email and phone always went to voicemail. I dont think the staff checks their emails or missed calls when they get back to their desk for some reason. On the day before move out, our resident dashboard showed we owed a full months rent balance still so we wanted to come in to the office and ask clarifying questions (since I've read other horror stories in the reviews). We visited the office and the new lady already looked visibly bothered to help us, almost as if we were wasting her time. When asked about the final balance, next steps and info about the keys (keys are all on Brivio and Latch now), she proceeded to call us residents "dumb sometimes" and laughed at us since she probably assumed we got an email about this. As tempting as it was to pull out the phone and record the rest of her condescending comments, we figured a review was good enough. Its clear staff such as her were only hired on to bring new residents in, but were never trained on retaining them. Probably after realizing they made a mistake, we finally got the move out email that was supposed to be sent with all of the relevant information, but it was already too late for us. As expected, because our inspection never happened, our deposit got deducted for nearly everything and ended up having to owe money in the end. As frustrating as this process was, at least the nightmare was finally over. Unfortunately, if you are moving out of the Artisan for any reason, staff members have the green light to berate and make your life as difficult as possible on your way out the door. I will try and get others to avoid this headache the best I can below: IF YOU ARE MOVING OUT make sure you do the following: - Go into the office IN PERSON and put in your notice. Make sure you get the move out email in your inbox before you leave the office or they will likely forget. Rarely will they answer your calls or emails - If you had a maintenance request for any kind of repair, make sure you take a picture of their work, as they may try and charge YOU for the repair not being done correctly on move out (Wrong screw used inside dryer, wrong hose behind washer, etc.) - If your only option is to call the office, dont call using the "Current resident" extension, call the "Future resident" extension and they will pick up right away. Like I said earlier, new residents are their only priority here IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING MOVING TO ARTISAN BECAUSE OF THE DISCOUNT: - Consider the apartment complex right across the street called Wyatt that offers the same exact discount, with qualified staff that know how to conduct themselves like adults and dont call their residents "dumb" - There is no security at the building after hours due to budget cuts and the garage door breaks open a lot. This has lead to squatters and homeless entering the building - You need 2 apps (Brivio and Latch) to enter anywhere in the building and your unit. If you lose your phone or if it dies, you will be locked out (thankfully the garage is always broken so you might be ok some days) - If you have an EV vehicle, charging is free BUT 80% of the chargers are now out of order and have been for months. Non residents have also found a way in the building and use the chargers since the Chargepoint password was made public via a sticker. As a result, chargers are rarely available now for residents - Some hallways smell awful and its because residents open their doors and let their pets relief in the corners. No response from management, just sent out a ChatGPT generated "Dont do that" email and called it a day - If Artisan is your only living option, avoid units facing east because of the freeway noise, units facing south because of the noise of the freeway onramps, units faing west because of the garbage trucks and sirens. The only units remotely worth the asking price are the ones facing inward and the ones facing north - The best thing about the apartment complex is the maintenance staff (which is saying something) who have always been very friendly The solution to all things above: hire qualified staff that not only care about bringing in new residents, but also retaining them. read more

I have been living here since Jan, and I have to say it has been pretty smooth so far. The bad wrap that was the takeover from BMQ seems to be smoothed out and it runs well now. There are a few things that could be better.. Trash management, Elevator service. Especially on Elevator #3, and Packages being just thrown into the mail room. Other than that, me and my little beagle have enjoyed living here so far. I would recommend to anyone who wants to live downtown, especially right next to the Highway (Easy access to work) read more

DO NOT MOVE HERE! The Artisan is complete nightmare. There is trash constantly overflowing out of the garbage rooms because they don't have them managed properly. The hallways all smell routinely like rotting garbage or worse a horrendous perfume they try to mask it with. The building is infested with roaches and rats after a year with garbage mismanagement. The staff in the office for some reason go out of their way to make life difficult for residents in bizarre and confounding ways. I lived here for over 5 years, but the last year with the Artisan Group running the building was a nightmare of weekly elevator outages, garbage pileups, dog poop and pee in the hallways/elevators that is not cleaned up by anyone, and stolen packages from a mismanaged mailroom. It used to be a great place to live and turns out that the Artisan Group is a bunch of slum lords that bought a luxury building and is just in way over their head. I have finally moved out and free to give my honest opinion. I am so glad to get out and people are moving out in droves. I would not be surprised to see this building go bankrupt in 2025. And for 1 last kick between the legs on the way out they slam you with a bunch of lies and BS fees to not give you your security deposit back even if the place is immaculate and you show proof of all payments for utilities they claim you still owe. Also check that they have your renters insurance on file otherwise you are being charged $12/mo for a policy you don't need and they are not telling you about. They are not proactive in checking this. They just charge you. HORRIBLE. DON'T MOVE IN! SO glad I am OUT! read more

On January 24th, a maintenance man just walked into my apartment with no knocking and I did not have an active work order. He just let himself into my unit. I got so scared and he was shocked to see me at home and said he was at the wrong unit and apologized. I sent an email to Mylena and Marcela and I have not gotten a response. I left a voicemail to the regional manager Marcus Mitchell and I haven't gotten a response. They just simply do not care about their residents and righting their wrongs. read more

ZERO STARS ‼ DO NOT MOVE HERE IT IS A SCAM ‼ ( Mind you I have only been living here under two weeks! Unfortunately a friend found this place for me, it was close to my college, and affordable ). THE MANAGEMENT/STAFF specifically Mylena Vigil are a NIGHTMARE, NOT PROPERLY TRAINED, and are here to take your money without providing services. My check in experience not only took a span of 4weeks instead of 48hr- a week and that was with me constantly having to call and drive up to the building to make sure they were DOING THEIR JOBS. My paperwork was always incorrect from little things like my name to the amount $$$ that was due. Image the emotional roller coaster of telling someone you will only have to pay a certain amount $$$ then a week later oh no wait you actually have to pay this amount $$$.... WHICH IS WAY MORE THAN WHAT THEY TELL YOU. Then the system they use privately to access paperwork they go in and try to sneak and fix their mistakes while being disrespectful to you. Gaslight you and then do not expect to be held accountable. The sad part is these are adults who run away from accountability. Unfortunately, I had the COPS wrongfully called on me by Mylena Vigil when she's be dodging me all week about my rent for this month. Oh I understand the whole building access was down, which in itself was crazy and I was told never use to be an issue until this new company took over in DEC 2023. I am trying to be a good tenant ( that's only been living here for less than 2 WEEKS ) and wanting to pay my rent that should have been adjusted and set up PROPERLY from the time I signed my contract. These people are stealing money. They can make up charges and calculations on the spot and then go into their system and make changes. They will show you one price, but charge you another. READ THE OTHER REVIEWS. DO NOT MOVE HERE! Pray for me because I signed a contract with the devil literally. They will smile in your face and make the tour so appealing, but DO NOT FALL FOR IT. It wasn't until other folks saw me moving in and I had to ask about the management here and the stories are all the same. Ever since the take over in DEC THIS PLACE HAS GONE TO SH*T ‼ You've been warned. I won't be surprised if these folks get fired soon once they see how much money they are losing and they cannot keep up the building at this rate. They are losing so many tenants that have been living here for years. *PHOTOS: Before adding the cops being called. The disrespect I have experienced with my move in was crazy this is how they turned over the apartment to me. Never in my life! I already had work orders in my first couple of days and could not move in until a week later. Which when I leave they will try to get me to pay for their poor turnover. The only superstar at this place is the maintenance man Anible. He is awesome and knows what he is doing. Could use a bit more help since this is a big building, but other than that can we get a better team as all the tenants are upset. Due to the police wrongfully being called, I am now not allowed in the lobby, from trying to sit down and speak with Mylena about my rent. She took me wanting to possibly get a lawyer involved as a threat. Clear guilt on her part. She does not like to take accountability, but has been in the business 20 years and cannot keep up with her position or train her staff. She is disrespectful and expects folks to not be upset/disrespectful back. When you open that door it cannot be closed. BAD FOR BUSINESS. You can only be so understanding before you realize you're being played for a FOOL and that is disrespectful. The staff continually waste their tenants time without responding to emails or answering the phones. The staff does not want to be accountable for their lack of professionalism and understanding of their job duties, but will take folks money and collect a check for themselves. I hate to say this, but the culture we are in as a society with inflation and declining of people's mental health if they don't change things around here. One day they will come across the wrong tenant the way they handle business here and I can see how folks can get upset and someone might snap on them. I can see that happening with how unprofessional and wishy washy this place is especially dealing with folks hard working money and time. They will happily take your money, but in turn be disrespectful and give you poor service. REVAMP THE WHOLE TEAM ASAP! This is a lovely building that's being managed poorly and improperly. What an embarrassing and triggering experience so far. If management is not changed soon, I will also be looking into breaking my lease just like many other tenants are currently doing. I can't say enough wonderful things about The Artisan. First of all it is an amazing place to live with unbelievable amenities! Most importantly the staff is kind, incredibly helpful, highly professional, and respond quickly! Marcela is so knowledgeable about the property and the reason we chose The Artisan among the many properties in San Diego. During our move in Marcela and Christian made the process smooth, easy, and went out of their way to accommodate my family. They genuinely care about their renters. I have not experienced any of the negative reviews and am quite surprised by the comments. I am writing to formally express my deep dissatisfaction regarding both an maintenance issue and the unprofessional conduct I experienced from a member of your leasing office staff. 1. Window Maintenance Issue Since the scheduled outdoor window cleaning by the apartment, my window has become completely non-functional and cannot be opened. This has created severe ventilation problems in my unit. As someone suffering from sinusitis and asthma, this has seriously affected my health and day-to-day life. * I submitted a maintenance request via the apartment website the day after the issue occurred. * On May 17, I followed up with an email to inquire about the repair timeline and was told maintenance staff would call prior to entering my unit. (Email screenshot attached.) * On May 21, still with no action taken, I called the office and was again told to wait for the technician's call. * That same day, while I was out due to breathing discomfort, I received a motion alert on my indoor camera, showing someone entering my apartment without notice or repair being completed. (Security footage attached.) * Upon my return, I confirmed that no repair had been made. According to my camera logs, the individual remained in my unit for less than 30 seconds. 2. Inappropriate Conduct by Leasing Office Staff On May 22 at 1:46 PM, I called the office again and spoke to a staff member named Pem. I calmly explained the entire situation to her. In response: * She blamed me, claiming that "no one ever denies entry to the maintenance staff" and that "it's not their habit to call ahead to schedule a time," which, according to her, justified the unannounced entry into my apartment. However, she made no attempt to address why the window remained unrepaired after the visit. * She sighs audibly, spoke harshly, and finally shouted "NO" at me when I asked if someone could come now to do the repair. * She then asked, "So what do you want me to do?" in a confrontational and dismissive tone. * I believe the leasing office may have call logs to verify what was said. That same afternoon around 3:00 PM, I went down to the leasing office hoping to speak with the manager. I was told the manager was currently busy, and Pem was assigned to assist me instead. From the moment I approached her, Pem displayed a noticeably rude attitude -- she looked me up and down, rolled her eyes, and seemed visibly irritated. When I began to state my apartment number, she immediately cut me off and said, "If you're here about the window, I already told you everything over the phone." She then abruptly walked away to open the door for someone outside, and when she returned, she said nothing further to acknowledge or resume our conversation. While I was still sitting there, shocked and embarrassed, the manager fortunately came over on their own initiative and said that maintenance would come to my unit immediately to fix the window. To my shock, as soon as I stood up to leave, Pem immediately switched to a warm, friendly demeanor while greeting the next visitor, showing a stark contrast in her attitude. I am seeking a formal response from management, along with a clear outline of how the matter will be addressed. read more

Once again, another disappointing experience here at The Artisan. We've had difficulties at this complex for quite some time, and while there have been measures to make the communities experience better, the lack of initiative from the leasing department rings true once again. At this time, there are several squatters living on the 7th floor in apartment 717. Unhoused people have been entering the side doors of the apartment as soon as individuals exit due to zero security measures. To note, this apartment is located in East Village, in downtown San Diego, where security is honestly a must. Whoever was initially living in that apartment is allowing multiple homeless people to come in and out of the unit at all hours of the day, which makes the rest of the community very uncomfortable. It is clear they're smoking cigarettes, and are likely doing other drugs. We understand California has some unfortunate laws surrounding squatting situations, but the complex is offering zero support or any additional security measures to at least STOP the individals who are not on that current lease from entering. They provide generic, unhelpful responses via email, and it's super disappointing that residents who have been here for four+ years are not being heard over homeless people who are sneaking their way in. Do better, The Artisan. If you do not want to pay a good amount of money to be surrounded by a homeless community living in the apartment across from you, rent elsewhere. read more

I came to tour a unit at the Artisan and it was one of the best experiences I've had when looking for a property to lease. The Manager Mylena Vigil was very professional, very informative and answered all my questions. The facility is equipped with a nice pool and nice club house that I would love to throw a party in. Total trash Management company that took over the building as of 12/8/23. This used to be a luxury building with incredible amenities but it has gone down hill so fast since the takeover. Trash everywhere, no security, things breaking and smelling. I would not recommend living here especially at the obscene prices they charge. Also to the Artisan team member who will reply to this, the people living in this building are not your "customers" who are dissatisfied. We are people who have lived here for years happily until you took over. Not only have you taken away so much of what made this community special but you also have the audacity to try and raise rent. We have lived here for 3 years and used to love it. We went on deployment, came back and moved back in because Broadstone Makers Quarter, was pricey but the amenities and staff made it worth it. We were paying for quality... a building that was cleaned ceiling to floor daily, staff put together social events both on and off property, had great communication with modern platforms to do so, quick turn around with maintenance, and an amazing staff from the cleaning staff to the staff at the front desk. We just renewed our lease in October 2023 and had we known that as of Dec 2023 Broadstone would become Artisan and be taken over by AMC, we would have moved to another Greystar owned property. Taking over a property like this is no small feat and it should have been handled accordingly. It's two months later and things are still terrible. I have went down to the office FOUR times about a work order with my stove (literally my means of cooking) not working and was met with "I'll tell maintenance, we have more emergent request, we're just getting the maintenance guys, I'll have him call you, etc ". The professional thing to do would be to follow up and let me know the status instead of saying something would be done and failing to take care of it over the span of 2 months. The building doesn't look or even smell the same, the things by the pool don't get washed regularly anymore, dirty gym and now people can't even buzz in because the box isn't working. This is our HOME. We CHOSE to live here, this is where we should and have been comfortable until now. Things like this effect our daily LIVES. This isn't just a project that you take on and figure out as you go. If they were taking over the building, they should have had staff on standby to be FULLY functional upon take over. I understand they're trying and this isn't personal against management but I didn't renew my lease here to live by these standards. Especially when the staff seems cold and unapologetic about it. Our entire apartment complex is filthy, not a single person is cleaning or helping to keep it in shape, the office is non existent and never picks up the phone or answers their emails. We have no idea how to pay our January rent, they haven't set up a portal or provided any instructions even though they said they would. DO NOT SIGN A LEASE! The Artisan took over BMQ and we all loved BMQ. As landlords it has been a hard position to fill but truth be told the new office management is genuinely trying to appease the residents! They've Definetly grown on me, I enjoy seeing them in the office! I think they are turning things around. Is it perfect? No, but it could get there with a little more work. It was an amazing building, but unfortunately the new management team who took over since December 2023 destroyed it. I moved here 5 years ago and experienced 3 other managements teams. I have lived in 3 buildings in downtown before and never ever seen such an unprofessional management who are not doing their basic job and service. I didn't have any plans to move out, but I just gave them an official notice that I am moving out. Mylena who is acting as the manager is lying, making things up, and changing his words. The new management has gotten off to a rocket start. Truth be told the quality of care has never been the same since Covid. The BMQ community life has yet to recover. No more yoga classes, macramé wine night, concerts in the pool yard, Fri night gatherings hosted by local vendors w/tapas and margs. Superbowl parties etc. Most of that came from Manny/Lance and the dream team. Great management. I do have some good news... Yesterday, I went down with a list of things needing repair that have been outstanding for over a year. I was greeted kindly and professiinally. The repairs I needed were moldy washer seal, broken ice maker and A/C filter replacement. A new maintenance guy Anibal Ramirez and a helper came today and resolved all the issues. Anibal seems an expert in maintenance. He was kind and professional. He did a great job! I rated at 5 stars because my experience today, is what it used to be. Thank you leasing office for scheduling so swifty and thank you Anibal and team for fixing my items! We've all started a new job or a project that didnt go well. Procuring quality housekkeeping and maintenance team can be daunting in today's market. I will lean on my patience and understanding while the new team finds their footing and restores our home to the community we all love. Cheers! read more
