The reason to keep trying different types of work out classes, is sometimes you stumble upon something you really enjoy. The BABE Fit class was the most fun fitness class I've ever taken! The Thursday night classes were taught by Lucie. The first half hour was cardio dancing with some burlesque style moves (but no stripping). The 2nd half hour was floor work of things like crunches and leg stretches, with a 10 minute cool down. Now, I'm pretty uncoordinated, but it's totally OK if you don't pick up the dance moves right away. Lucie was very good at explaining slowly what the moves were, and they repeat, so sometimes the repetition helps you figure the moves out. I was smiling even if I stepped off on the wrong foot for a move. The class price is very reasonable, $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Then we made the salad with from scratch burrata cheese, marry me chicken and homemade fresh pasta. It was truly the best experience. The dessert was a layered red velvet cup with mascarpone cheese. It was heaven! The class was hands on and the staff were all so friendly. The space was clean and welcoming. Two bathrooms were inside the kitchen area. The menu can change per class so be sure to book what you like best. They offer a variety of classes and is not just for couples if you do the classic cooking class. Worth the price, hands down. Our class happened at the start of a snow storm so only about 14-16 out of 20 people came which helped create a more intimate setting.

They were such great instructors and the class was really well structured - they covered everything from basic moves to walks, personas and twirling tassels. They kicked it off with a routine (which blew our minds and also gave a good introduction to those who hadn't seen burlesque before) and talked about burlesque as a celebration of sexuality, art, performance, etc. They coached us through practicing all the moves. It was very comfortable, not embarrassing at all. And so much fun, especially if you have a couple drinks before. The instructors rented a dance studio at the Armory in Somerville, which was a great space. I would highly recommend ensuring that the studio you rent has a mirror. I can't imagine doing the class otherwise, it really helps to see what you're doing! If you go to the Armory, check out Highland Kitchen for drinks before - it's just a couple blocks away and has an awesome cocktail menu. We only had two thoughts that they could do to improve the class - one would be to write out a list of tips for us to leave with, so we don't forget (they had so many great pointers it was hard to remember them all). And the other was maybe to teach us a routine. The end of the class was just freestyle (which was totally fun), but we agreed that it would have been fun to learn a short routine.

Something got me interested in glass blowing. I know myself, and I knew I probably wouldn't have…read moreheaps of fun... but it is something I wanted to experience for myself. After reading the reviews, I decided to go here. I took the glassblowing sampler, which serves as an introduction to the art. My two instructors were Matt and Pat. The first thing we did was go through the shop, and see what kinds of things they do. There were no visible sales tactics involved, more like a "this is what we do". Then we got to the room where the melted glass actually lives... now folks... they tell you to bring a bottle of water, bring one. Molten glass is incredibly hot, and therefore the room is too. They go over what we will be making, and how we will be making it, as well as things that could go wrong. In this glass we make paperweights. Then we go over safety and practice three times to make sure we got everything down. Yes, burns do happen, but they do everything they can to minimize the risk. When it is your turn, one of the instructors will be working with you one on one to guide you through the process, and ensure you don't get a burn from glass whose temperate well exceeds 1,000 degrees. However, this is where this place lost some stars. When it was my turn, Pat was the person working with me. While I appreciate his help, he did many things that were extra, and unrelated to safety, such as spinning the rod. While minor, and while I was the one manipulating the glass, I still felt it took away from the experience. It was more like me assisting him than him assisting me. You don't get the opportunity to "blow" into the glass in this class, but it was demonstrated to us at the end. Some more notes: Instructors were fairly chill, but no-nonsense dudes. When you have molten glass, joking around is very dangerous. The owner has a great sense of humor! And finally, molten glass is very viscous. It is not as easy to manipulate as it looks. In conclusion: if I had enjoyed glass blowing, I would return here. But, alas, I found it was not for me. Definitely worth it for the experience though!
