Initially, I was impressed with what a great looking place The Armory is. Mostly outdoors,some tables undercover or under big umbrellas. Perfect for those of us who are concerned about virus transmission. It's on two levels with downstairs being pick up your food and drinks and bring them back to your table. Upstairs is table service. Upper levels give some nice views of downtown Sonora. Food was simple and well done. Fish tacos were very good with a tasty tomatillo-pineapple salsa. Also split a large Caesar salad (good dressing). Steak on skewers was a little too done but the shoestring fries were very good(we got them with no garlic seasoning). Giant pretzel was fun with some grain mustard that was excellent All food is served on recyclable paper. A real energy saver. This is primarily a beer garden so, lots of choices on tap and in cans/bottles. There are also mixed drinks and some are barrel aged. Wine list is minimal but not bad. I think they could do a little better with wine selection. There are two dessert possibilities but, we had ordered too much food and had to pass. Service was friendly and pretty fast. Servers have to climb a flight of stairs to deliver your food and drinks. Our sever told us he did this maybe 100 to 200 times in a shift. Whew! Please note-there is a small elevator if you have difficulty with stairs but,you have to get someone to unlock it. We had a lot of fun and really enjoyed ourselves. We'll be coming back. read more

First time to the armory since opening. Great selection of beer and my barrel aged manhattan was really good. We ate fish tacos and the hippy bowl and both were served quickly and were also very good. Service could be improved. It's semi-full service which is fine but as a first time customer it took a minute to figure out the program. The building is really cool and the private rooms look like a lot of fun. We stopped in after attending a funeral and a long travel day. We had the dog with us and it was too hot for her to stay in the car! The patio was shaded with misters and a breeze. Our puppy was content to lie on the cool concrete! They even brought her a bowl of water! Two of us ordered shrimp tacos and one in our party ordered fish tacos. Two of us drank CaliSqueeze beers from Firestone Brewery and the other ordered Taco Truck from Dust Bowl! The toasted flour tortilla was crisp, the seafood was fresh and tasty and the toppings were plentiful and varied! All 3 of us yummed over the very delicious meal. But, then, we ordered the brownie à la mode with bourbon sauce. The brownie was soft, the ice cream vanilla bean and the bourbon sauce was the perfect salted caramel! Scrumptious!! Service was prompt. Restaurant was clean and unique! Price was on point, not expensive. Servings were hearty! We will definitely be back on our next trek into Sonora! Really good beer selection, and the food was pretty good too. I would stop by again, but their prices are crazy high. After tip, a sandwich, chips and a beer was $30! If they can get their prices more reasonable, it'd be my go-to place. read more

I was so excited about the opening of The Armory. I went there for lunch on a weekend and was very disappointed. They have a full bar but will not make you a cocktail only if it's a premixed drink. Don't like everything was ordered from Costco and just heated up or shaken up and given to you. Staff seemed to be inconvenienced if you ask for anything. And I don't appreciate having self-serve bars to get salt and pepper, water or any condiments. I was hopeful that this would be a fun place to go hang out with my friends. What a huge disappointment. I was so excited for this place to open! And am so disappointed. First, the great- the staff is amazing! Super friendly and helpful. The ambiance is amazing! Just stunning, and never had I wished I could have a proper brunch experience in Sonora as much as I did sitting here. But alas, apparently a brunch menu would only add to the schizophrenic menu. I will say that they have the best purse hooks at the bar in the county! The bar has 1 type of each kind of alcohol, and it's crappy. Which makes no sense given the size of the bar! (And the margins on booze) The menu.... Is weird. It can't decide if it is Mexican, French, southern...... I had the Baja tacos - which were bland and at 16.00 I would hope for more than 2 shrimp per taco. I hope the place evolves to be something more interesting that doesn't offer only ambiance and beer. read more

Had our first experience at the armory today!!! Amazing is an understatement. The atmosphere is everything from the beer tap waterfall, the brick, the open concept and the fun family/date night/day drinking hot spot and everything in between. The kids had a ball playing with the blocks and climbing the rocks. The the agua Fresca with tequila was so refreshing! We had the loaded fries and chicken sandwich and they both were unreal!!!! It is not temporarily closed, we were there last week. Sat at the bar and enjoyed watching Roger make a lot of cocktails. The drinks we had were excellent and there are numerous cocktails to choose from. The giant pretzel was soft and fresh and the tacos were excellent. My husband and I came to Sonora for a wedding for the weekend, and stayed close to downtown. We came to The Armory after a hike for a beer and some lunch. I saw they had a vegan option (I'm not particularly vegan, but enjoy eating clean). I ordered the Hippie Bowl, with extra broccoli, add shrimp. My husband ordered the shrimp tacos. The food was fresh and delicious. (The tomatillo salsa was fire!) We ordered a few crispy Hazy IPAs to go with our food. I appreciated the smaller, more focused food menu (that tells me they make things fresh and care about the quality of their ingredients). We enjoyed the food so much, we went back for Father's Day dinner. Keep up the fresh food and keep the menu small and innovative (and the beer list long ) and we will be back the next time we're in town! read more

The Armory has only been open since May. We stumbled upon it this afternoon after a day of viewing wildflowers in the area. It's obviously a popular place as evidenced by the crowd. We walked in and it was not at all clear what we were suppose to do. Order somewhere and wait? Was there a server? A hostess? After a good while of waiting at a table we asked at the bar and were told for downstairs eating/drinking you ordered at the bar, got a number and waited for your order. If you went upstairs there was a server. After enduring an intensely unnerving elevator 'lift' (It would be perfect for Halloween--Extremely tight space, slow moving, complete with screeches, groans and mechanical bangs.) And alas, no seating upstairs. At that point we returned to the bar (took the stairs which says something as i am disabled and avoid stairs at most times). And then things took a turn for the better! The staff (and owner) we interacted with were friendly, helpful, efficient and kind. Really outstanding. We enjoyed a beer, then fish and beef tacos. Food-great; service-outstanding. The place is very attractive, especially for a younger crowd. Seating options are not great for people with disabilities. Would we go again? Absolutely! This place has more going for it than any new restaurants I've visited recently. A few tweaks to the ambiance would make it perfect! read more

Great ambiance good drinks and good food. The menu is small but has a few creative healthy options which is like finding a unicorn in tuolumne county. Execution and service are good most of the time but a few hiccups here and there, which right now (spring 2023) is common at all restaurants in the county. Some servers are just young clueless and untrained but the bar service is usually good. All told it is one of my go to local places. read more

The Armory is exactly what downtown Sonora has been missing!! We absolutely love going there for a weekly girls night. The margaritas are always amazing and so refreshing on these hot nights. We enjoyed lunch on the rooftop today! It was such an amazing vibe. The atmosphere is so fun and the food was out of this world. I had the chicken mole tacos and id recommend them over and over. Literally the worst place on the planet, as you arrive at 8:45. No staff to great you. The bartender has one customer doesn't care. They then at 8:57 say we closed our kitchen. Though online it says there open til 10 pm. Then ur screwed and can only find pizza to eat after 9pm. The literally will ruin your night! read more

Beautiful decor! We ordered the Baja Tacos and Ahi Poke. Food is decent, but can slightly step up the freshness and originality given the super cool vibe of the restaurant & price tag. If the outdoor seating can be explicitly dog friendly, that would be amazing! We often drive back to town with our labradoodle and detour to Washington St. for casual shopping and dinning. We're often limited with dog friendly options and make the decision to skip town excursions. read more
