Omg. Poutine. I hadn't had this in years, so I was excited to try it today. I asked what kind of gravy they use, and thankfully it's beef based so I could eat it. I ordered from their food truck and got the buffalo blue cheese fries, which I don't think even had gravy on them anyways. It was ready in 5 minutes and it was a packed box. It contained fries, breaded chicken, cheese curds, buffalo sauce, and blue cheese. This was so good! The sauce was pretty tangy and not spicy, and the cheese curds and dressing helped balance out the flavors. The fries were fried well, and the chicken pieces were plentiful. I was so happy they didn't use pork gravy cuz I could've ordered the veggie fries but I didn't want to. Total was $12, which was pricey but honestly it was a lot of food and I was so full afterwards. Let me preface this review by saying I am Canadian AF and if you cut me open I'd probably bleed cheese curds and poutine gravy. Finally got to try American Poutine Co by catching them at Gilbert Feastival. I was super excited because I love that they've brought poutine, a dirty Canadian staple, to the desert. Unfortunately have a few critiques on their poutine which ultimately missed the mark for me! Poutine is pretty much a delicious SLOP of fries, drowning in gravy with cheese curds that are squeaky bouncy fresh, yet also softened from the piping hot gravy. For me there just wasn't enough gravy. Next, it wasn't hot enough to adequately soften the fries OR cheese curds. Overall, this made the texture of the whole thing all wrong - as it was too crispy and dry, cheese curds were cold and hard, and there were a lot of uncoated, hard fries at the bottom. I'm not sure if they choose to make it this way since a sloppy slightly-mushy poutine isn't maybe what Americans customers think they want. But that's what makes real poutine amazing - it's a sloppy dirty mess of deliciousness and when you get down to the bottom of the tub the fries should still be sitting in gravy! Maybe next time I could ask for extra - but I'm still glad American Poutine Co exists, and I would definitely give em another shot to try and win this canadian glutton's heart. read more

I often drive up to Tempe for school related activities and I never go without stopping at at least 3 places to eat. I went to The American Poutine on a whim since I realized it was a hot minute since I'd had the taste of delicious gravy soaked fries in my mouth. I got the original flavor, as I'm a creature of habit and need someone to gas me up before I venture out of my comfort zone. It was served in a nice sustainable paper/cardboard box (+1 environment yay!). Perfect amount of gravy and the curds were très bon. I'd give this place a five if it weren't for the crispness of the fries. Typically, I prefer a light crunch with my poutine but the fries were on the heavier side of the crunchy scale. This is a review of the food truck at Pioneer Community Park in Peoria tonight. I was really looking forward to getting some poutine, since the last time they were at this food truck event, they had run out of food by the time I got there (we go kinda late...just before they close up). Well, tonight, I high-tailed it over to their truck and spoke to a very friendly young man with incredible customer service. I went with the Original (fries, gravy and cheese curds), but I added pulled pork to the mix. The pulled pork had a delightful sweetness, that worked really well with the saltiness of the gravy. It was really tasty and a lot of food in one little container. I ate as much as I could, and hubby finished it off. To the gentleman in the truck (I didn't get your name), it was really good! I'm Canadian. I love fries and gravy! I love poutine! I love fries, gravy & cheese curd! The first time I tried The American Poutine Co was at a food truck festival and I will admit, I wasn't impressed. Fast forward a few years, I find them on a food delivery site and decide to try them again. I'm hooked. Is it the best poutine I've ever had? The French side of my family would be wildly disappointed. However, they're The American rendition and I must keep that in mind. A few things, the gravy never gets as piping hot as it did in my childhood memories, when it's so hot that upon ladeling it over the curds it just melts. I've frequented the trucks now and it's always squeaky cheese curd. Ordering delivery however, gives the element it requires. By the time it's at the door the cheese has melted perfectly creating a dish to make the mouth water. I haven't tried their multiple options available personally, because my father would tell me it isn't poutine. Although, the other eaters in the house have had the works, pulled pork, garlic fries and Philly cheesesteak with no complaints. It's disgusting the quantity of original poutine I can eat from this establishment and probably best I keep it to delivery to avoid the looks of horror. How I like to spice it up is with some malt vinegar, ketchup and ground pepper. So long as this place is serving up poutine, I'll be eating it. Glad it finally came to my door step to offer an entirely different experience as opposed to catching them at the food truck stops. Came in with the family for poutine. Ordered chili fries, buffalo fries, original poutine and the chicken tenders/fries box for the kids. I asked the girl working how big the chicken order was and was told it was 4 strips and lots of fries. The menu says "juicy, breaded, 100% chicken". The order came out with 4 dried up tiny little nuggets. I checked to see if we got the wrong order and was told that they didn't have the strips and are substituting the nuggets. Not sure why this info wasn't given up front. 1 strip would probably equal all 4 of these nuggets. And they definitely weren't juicy 100% chicken. I like this place as part of a food truck festival (the gravy fries and cheese curds are awesome), but with all the many other brick and mortar restaurants in close proximity, I have a hard time justifying $10 bucks for a bowl of fries, burger meat that tasted like steak-umm and a cheese sauce that tasted like it was from 7-11, topped with excessive amount of bacon. The two biggest turn-offs were the sign on the bathroom door saying they were out of toilet paper (um, Target is next door) and the fact they don't open until 12 noon on Sunday...one of the reasons it took me almost 2 months to finally try this place. Yum! Great variety and unique combinations. The fried are nice and crispy, the gravy is flavorful without being too salty, and the curds are the best we've ever had--soft, melty and tasty. There weren't a lot of options but I ordered a regular version which had fries, cheddar (I think), brown gravy. It was good but served in a cup which made it less convenient to eat. Mom and sis both got the pizza version. It was pretty bad, I'm sad to say. Very salty and just not at all like what you expect to get w a poutine. I hit up the food truck on Friday night in Peoria. Although I have had poutine plenty of times, this was my first time trying it from a food truck. I got "The Works" which is a little different from the traditional plate but, man it was fantastic! A bed of crispy fries, with a huge helping of gooey cheese, tons of perfectly cooked bacon and a dash of chives. It was plenty of food for two and the price was good for the amount of fries and toppings. This review is for the food truck (though I've been wanting to visit The American Poutine restaurant in Gilbert for a while). I was super excited to see The American Poutine food truck at an event I was at -- so, of course, I had to order. Unfortunately, it was not a great experience. The wait for food was long (over 15 mins), orders after mine came out before mine, and they had no water to purchase. Then, when I received my order I noticed something off -- the blue cheese drizzle was missing so I had to go back and ask them to add it on top (what I received tasted like ranch though). Throughout the whole thing the staff in the truck wasn't the friendliest. For $12 out of pocket, I regret having made the Buffalo Chicken Fries my choice for lunch that day. And because I ordered at the food truck I wasn't able to check-in and use the $2 off Yelp deal. Money not well spent and this experience has left me with real lack of desire to visit the restaurant when I was so eager to visit before. read more

Since U.S. Fries closed, I've needed a place to get my poutine fix. This place is close to my sister's house, so we stopped in to get lunch after shopping. It's not really kid-friendly. Normally, I wouldn't even think about that, but my sister has a 3-year-old and they had no highchairs and all their tables are hightops, except for one small two-top in the corner (also not prime for accessibility for people who use wheelchairs). We took our food to go. I ordered a fried chicken poutine, and my sister got a pulled pork. We both liked our food. The cheese curds were totally melted by the time we got home, so you may want to eat in. The fries were quite crispy and brown, which I prefer, but they might've been overdone for some people. They had a lot of delicious options. I was torn between the fried chicken and the buffalo chicken or the bacon cheeseburger. Not all the offerings have gravy, so if you're not a fan of traditional poutine but you likes fries, you can still probably find something you'll like. read more

Good not great... To start, the address that is listed on Yelp is incorrect. When I finally found the place and asked the guy working what was up, he didn't seem too worried about it nor did he seem to even care that we came in. That same enthusiasm (or lack thereof) was echoed in the rest of the service and food. The shop itself was nice and clean but the food menu wasn't posted anywhere so you have to stand awkwardly reading a piece of paper while trying to figure out what you want. I guess I should have planned my order ahead of time to make it more convenient. On to the food-I ordered the Pork Poutine to go and to be perfectly honest, the flavors just all melded together into a less than flavorful mess. One of my favorite parts of any routine is a delicious gravy and fresh cheese curds. The fries were fresh, the cheese was delicious, but the gravy....The gravy tasted like a powdered mix which was disappointing because a good gravy can be the star of an otherwise drab poutine. The pork on the poutine was really good, but I would like a little kick to top it off! Overall, the food was good but not great. I initially tried this place from a food truck. At that time I ordered the gyro poutine. It was really good!! Therefore, when an actual place opened up near me I had to try it. The serving sizes are huge! I got the phillycheesesteak poutine. They are quite generous with the toppings. Unfortunately they didn't have the one I ordered before... They should add it.
