First visit tonight for a birthday dinner for a dear friend. Although it is only a few minutes from my location I had never tried the restaurant before tonight, and I am so saddened that I had not done so earlier. This is one of the best restaurants in Atlanta IMO, and I have been to many. I knew that I was going to have a great experience once I tried the kimchee that was included with the Pan Asian Egg. Prior to tonight I loathed kimchee. The cod with red wine reduction was exceptional, and the butternut squash Bolognese were both perfect entrees. Capping the experience was a phenomenal carrot cake and cappucciono. The service was also beyond reproach and very attentive and helpful. I cannot recommend this spot highly enough. I already have it on my radar (Chef's tasting menu) for my upcoming birthday. read more

Sometimes a place seems too bougie to be true. Like will the flavor match the plating. And I will say that it did not disappoint! The pork belly was tender, flavorful, and delicious. NEW YEAR'S EVE 2021 (prix fixe menu) I attended one of the seatings at The Alden for the New Year's Eve 2021 dinner and it lived up to all expectations I had. The restaurant offered two seatings, one at 6pm and one at 8pm with a prix fixe menu and optional wine pairings. They provided plenty of distance between tables for social distancing, and everyone was wearing masks. Each dish was both delicious and beautiful. The intentional progression of the menu from delicate to robust was well thought out and made for a delightful experience. The wine pairings exceeded our expectations. The items on the menu in order were: * Truffle popcorn * Beausoleils Oysters * Maine Lobster Salad * Sage-roasted Hudson Valley Foie Gras * Golden Tilefish * Brasstown Beef Wellington * Gooseberry Gelato * Passion Fruit Souffle Of all of these dishes, my favorite (and our groups) was the deconstructed Beef Wellington. Chef Jared's take on Beef Wellington was unique and unexpected. The Alden has the perfect recipe for an amazing evening. It is one of the very best place for dinner around Buckhead, Brookhaven and Chamblee area. I am so glad we decided to try. The restaurant has a modern vibe. Service was attentive. As I walked in, I was seated comfortably, while a special cocktail was tailor-made. All the food ordered were deliciously prepared and beautifully plated. Portion size was generous and price is very reasonable. Outside the restaurant, plenty of free parking was available. What would I recommend? * The steamed mussels in coconut lemongrass sauce has such pop of flavors. That was served with eggplants and mushrooms. It is a must-try! * As far as the entree, the smoked steamed salmon served alongside quinoa was my favorite. It was a very amazing dish for my healthy lifestyle. This place is the real deal. Don't fall for some of the well known tasting menu spots in ATL. This place is a gem and chef Jared is the real deal. He uses the best local ingredients and you can see the passion and effort that goes into the meal right in front of you. The cocktails and wine pairings are also top notch. I don't want to give away too much of the experience so all I will say is this is a must try. We will be back! The menu also rotates every couple of days which is amazing and deserves huge kudos. Loved every second of the meal. Biggest plus is you are guaranteed to leave here with a FULL stomach, that can't be guaranteed at quite a few tasting restaurants from my experience. Recently revisited the Alden for outdoor dining and had not only an amazing meal but felt very safe and comfortable dining here during a pandemic. We came on a Friday night and had the whole patio to ourselves until about 8pm. And after 8pm, other tables were seated far enough away that it still felt safe. All the staff were wearing masks and one-time use paper menus were distributed. Now that that disclaimer is out of the way, the food! Most ingredients are locally sourced so the menu changes all the time with the seasonal produce. We opted for the pre-fixe dinner, which included a salad, main, and dessert for $40. Really great value for the quality of food and service. We ordered bread and honey butter (made from Chef Jared's own honeybees!) to start because we're fatties. That butter ... I tried to resist, but it was so good. Took all my will power to not lick the . My summer salad with figs and watermelon radish was absolutely divine and beautifully plated. Went perfectly with my spritzer and al fresco dining. For mains, I had the sea scallops and my husband ordered the steak with local mushrooms. All the dishes were full of flavor and had innovative elements like buddha fingers (surprisingly starchy) and black onion jam (sweet and salty). Everything was great and cooked perfectly. The desserts were a perfect ending to our meal. I opted for the lemon tart with cantaloupe sorbet, and let me tell you, that sorbet was fantastic. This is coming from a person who thinks cantaloupe is filler fruit and the utter bane of fruit salads. Needless to say, it was a great meal with amazing service. Wow. Chef Jared created a masterpiece here. I've been to a lot of the best restaurants in Atlanta and this is definitely at the top. The ambiance is casual yet polished and contemporary, I'm a sucker for watching the cooks do their thing and the food! The chilled carrot-ginger soup was a perfect start and so unique. The steak?! Wow. I was honestly a bit nervous not knowing this cut of meat but it was amazing and the creativity of a red wine jelly and the black onion jam, incredible! I don't know how I made room but so glad I did as the lemon tart was so good and the cantaloupe sorbet was out of this world. First time but it will not be my last. read more

The food was decent but set up was terrible. Tables are so close together that it takes away from the entire experience. This was yet another review that was difficult because it was hard to combine the important two aspects of a dining experience into a single rating. The food was absolutely amazing and among the most inventive and delicious ever! The valentine's day tasting menu had some great choices and clearly was very thought out. Huge thumbs up for the deconstructed beef wellington; it was amazingly flavorful and perfectly prepared. Food aside, the service did not line up with the price point nor the occasion. The server was missing-in-action for most of the meal and it became awkward when other servers would stop by to remove empty plates from the various 4 courses which were sitting on the table for 15 minutes or more. Wine pairings arrived way before or after the course was completed, further diminishing the expectations. Unfortunately I think it will be some time before I go back, because what was a very expensive evening and had great potential was marred by subpar service. read more

What an ABSOLUTE treat. The menu was inspired, the execution on point, and the tastes - absolutely sublime. If you love tasting imaginative, beautifully prepared and presented food made with high technique, yet with no flair that is unnecessary, this is the place that will leave you giggling. Every dish is exquisitely crafted yet nothing is extra on the plate. Everything is there for a reason. The Alden is a place I would heartily recommend to the fussiest foodies knowing it would absolutely delight even the most jaded among them. There is little point to describing the specific dishes because the menu changes often. But I am absolutely certain from what we tasted that I would not expect anything that comes out of this kitchen that is less than exceptional. Been to the Alden a couple of times in the past, including for the chefs table/tasting menu experience - been a great experience Saw they had received an honorable mention on the recent Michelin ratings for Atlanta and wanted to revisit and experience what the new designation brings The Michelin plaque is prominent at the checkin desk, seated quickly at the reservation time, waters filled and menus presented. All good. After about 10 minutes our waiter appears and asks us if we'd been waiting long - we laughed that no we were fine, all good. He takes our drink order and disappears. Drinks come back individually (table of 4) which is fine - but my manhattan has an orange twist in it. Not usual and tastes good but I realize it's an old fashioned not a manhattan. Not a deal breaker by any means but should have been a clue of things to come. Couple of salads and the cheese plate special appetizers arive - again everything paced apart. Delicious. The mains took a while to come out but we were fine with that - too many restaurants are "in and out in 45 mins" so we were enjoying conversation. Thankfully we'd brought our own bottle of wine and 2 of us were able to serve ourselves. Drinks and the absence of our waiter meant that getting anything was very slow. We ordered 2 of the wagyu beef mains which were presented beautifully. Unfortunately the food was not hot enough- suspect that the plates had been waiting for pickup by our waiter. Couple of deserts to share - I picked the strawberry sorbet. It tasted fine, but was a very mild flavor. After I finished it, the waiter appeared and apologized that apparently I'd been given a sorbet with no sugar and would I like another one. Meal was over so I declined. The bill was the fastest thing to arrive - the sorbet was on the bill, which would have been the easiest gesture to make to remove an $8 items that was screwed up on a $400 bill. All in all, Absent the mains not being hot and the sugarless/flavorless sorbet the food was good. But Service was simply bizarre. Not what we'd expect from the Alden from previous visit and certainly not what you'd expect from a newly announced Michelin recipient read more

Another night at the Alden---another tasting menu. I just realized that it's the next morning, the morning after you have dined at the Alden, where you truly appreciate how good the food is. The night of the meal you're throwing back some cocktails and wine so your senses may be a bit dulled. The next morning you discuss the food that you digested and you're like---WOW, that was awesome. I have driven by this place numerous times and finally had a chance to eat here. The food, plating and atmosphere was amazing. We sat right near the kitchen and watched them plate all the dishes. It was really neat to see the amount of work they put into the design of the food. Appetizer: we order the bread plate and the pork belly plate. The bread plate came with a prosciutto butter (wow!), pimento cheese and a muscadine salad. This probably would have been enough food for an appetizer but the pork looked good too. The pork belly was amazing too. It was nice and tender and was served with what tasted like a sweet potato apple sauce (could be wrong on this). Dinner: I went with the duck plate and the girlfriend ate the tuna. The duck was sliced breast and a leg. I'm not sure if the plating or the taste was better, but they were both good. The tuna was really flavorful as well. Dessert: we went with the lemon tart with a sorbet. It tasted like key lime pie with some caramel on top. Yummy! Everything about this place was awesome. Another magical evening at The Alden. A few updates since my last review: 1) The cocktails have improved, both on presentation and taste. I highly recommend the tequila cocktail with cinnamon and framboise. 2) Chef Jared cooks vegetables perfectly (not overcooked like most restaurants in Atlanta). This is noticeable on the vegetable dish with shaved black truffles and also the mushroom tart. 3) The lemon tart with tutti frutti ice cream surprised us. Absolutely incredible. Fresh local honey and pollen from the chef, and the tutti frutti sorbet is made with only eight fruits and no added sugar. I said this last review, but we need to book the Chef's Table ASAP. read more

The Alden's website claims "seasonal Southern cuisine," but Chef Hucks has studied all around the world, something that's obvious in the menu (kimchi, Sichuan pepper, and chermoula rarely appear in a Georgia Peach's kitchen). The service is friendly and entertaining. That internationalism makes the menu interesting--every dish is unique to Alden. HACK: eat something small before and get a number of small plates for the table. It's not that much less food, but it's way less expensive. Try more things for a lower price tag! Drinks: Wes Fine Pine (bitter), Jalisco Nights (sweet) Small Plates: Pan-Asian Egg, Nantucket Bay Scallops, Jerk Plantation Quail Large Plates: Pecan-Encrusted Rainbow Trout, Bourbon-Glazed Arctic char, 48-Hour Sous Vide Short Ribs (not on menu) Desserts: Lunar Chocolate, Bread Pudding (not on menu) Likes: The dessert chemistry is incredible. On the Lunar Chocolate, the chocolate balls pop in your mouth, bursting into a creamy inside. All of the plates came out beautiful, with well balanced flavors. The short ribs are INCREDIBLE and melt off the bone. Dislikes: no way to steep the tea in a covered container (I ended up putting a share plate on it), ice cream flavors were too bitter for me but may work for someone else. read more

I feel like this place is a hidden gem. I had never heard of it before my friend recommended that we try it out for dinner. The food was really great! The mussels au gratin were by far, my favorite dish of the evening. Like other reviewers before me, I'd describe it as tom kha soup in a shell. Absolutely fantastic. I got the scallops and my friend got the squid ink pasta. Funnily enough, we preferred the others dish. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and you could cut through them with your fork like butter. But the star of that dish was the beets. They were beautifully sweet but not overpowering and it paired really well with a black pepper foam. I loved the squid ink pasta. The sauce was robust and held up well to the pasta without one element overpowering the other. The desserts were fantastic. I don't have a sweet tooth but I found myself going back for more. The banana bread pudding was outstanding. I'd love to come back here to try their tasting menu. Delish. P.S Plenty of free parking in the surrounding lots. Always a plus. read more

For my birthday dinner, I wanted to try The Alden for the first time. Fois gras wasn't on the menu, and our server said it was something new they were trying. I'm not a fois gras fan, and their version was different than others I've had. It was very light-tasting, and kinda creamy. They cross-hatching and browning they do on top is a nice touch and adds to the flavor. Bangs island mussels au gratin tastes like tom kha soup, but baked onto mussels. Wish we had gotten two orders. Tamarind glazed pork belly was tender on the inside, crispy on the outside. Husband loved it with sticky rice. Hay-smoked coulotte steak was very smoky and flavorful. I've never had a coulotte steak, and mine was a little tough. I didn't know if it was the cut or just bad luck. The yucca and mushrooms were excellent. The cocktails were complex, like someone took a lot of care to match the liquors and flavors. We tried and liked aroi mak mak, airtight, and no charge. For dessert, we had the blueberry "cobbler". It came with brown butter gelato, streusel, and the blueberry bits were encased in these yellow-y cubes. Equally interesting and delicious. We had dinner reservations on the patio. It can be loud at times due to the passersby or parking lots, but wasn't really a big deal; it felt more casual. Service was helpful and friendly, with good recommendations. For my birthday, they brought an additional sorbet and a birthday card. It was the nicest dinner we've had since before covid, and I'm so glad we came here for my birthday. read more

So happy that this restaurant is local and we don't have to drive far to come here because the food has been amazing every single time we've been there. Upon arriving you get complementary scones with honey from chefs bees and they're to die for! Sooo good that we asked for seconds but unfortunately the chef only makes so many per day... for food I asked if it was possible to make me a vegetarian eggs Benedict instead of the crab Benedict on the menu and the chef was more than happy to whip up something for me and let me tell you it was amazing! He made me veggie Benedict with wild mushrooms and local squash. Love the farm to table feel of the restaurant. As side we also got potato leek soup which was super light and fluffy. I'd recommend doing the Chef's Tasting with close family and friends. The entire menu was fresh, luscious and rich. The staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The kitchen was run impressively well, guests can even talk to the chef and watch everything unfold in the kitchen, the most exciting part for me. I didn't know how fun an open-kitchen dinning experience can be until we ate here. Pricing was reasonable, I would recommend doing the wine pairing as well. Good value, ask for Jonathan and he will provide you with all the information you'd want about your wine and some more. There is not one thing that I didn't like. There are several close favorites. The lamb belly and the gnocchi were absolutely amazing. Each provided flavors that brought me home or invoked specific food memories. Elements in the lamb reminded me of growing up and eating out in China on a weekend night with my parents, multiple sets of chopsticks reaching into the same hot pot. The gnocchi too, tasted complex and homey at the same time. Like what my mom would make for a quick lunch but also what my husband and I have tasted in "fancy" restaurants before. Ummmm wow. Just WOOOOOW! Parking selection was slim but I managed to score a spot after circling a couple times. Came for 6pm seating for the tasting menu to celebrate my birthday. Reservations were easy peasy on Resy.com. Started off with apps before the formal tasting menu. Lovely cocktail selection. The restaurant was quiet when I got there but definitely got busier as the night when on. Every course was approachable yet mysterious and oh so delicious. The flavors felt new yet familiar. I loved sitting courtside to watch the kitchen action. The kitchen is absolutely superb and clean. The culinary artists definitely enjoy what they're doing. It's fun watching people who are masters of their trade. Will definitely absolutely come back. It may possibly be my new favorite restaurant and definitely my favorite testing menu (nudging slightly ahead of the experiences at Bacchanalia and Lazy Betty). Bravo! read more

Made the mistake of trying the Alden for the first time on Valentine's Day this year. They had a fixed menu, which, in theory should make it easier for the kitchen and for service staff to keep up with the higher demand on this holiday. Unfortunately, it was a good 90 minutes before we got our food and service was very slow. I understand by reputation that this restaurant is seen as very good. I'm sure I just caught it at a bad time but to get five stars you have to be at your best even when it's the hardest in this business. read more

Visited The Alden last night for the first time. I ordered the "drunken chicken", and it was almost inedible. The basic premises was smoked chicken, utilizing an everyday basic beer infusion. What was served was a glop of chicken, under a sauce of something, covered in persimmon slices, covered in more glop sauce, and a few fried sweet potato chips. Thankfully the chips were edible. I do quite a lot of smoking of chicken, salmon, tenderloin, etc. However the "smokiness" was obscured by the sauce bath made from unknown ingredients. My fellow diners all had the fish, and loved it. Date night at the Alden was fantastic. I think our host Michelle was superb and made the whole night great for us. We order the following: -Champagne ($19/per glass) - This champagne was really good. Not too dry and not too sweet. It went well with the pineapple juice i asked for on the side. -A beer and a cocktail for him but i forgot what he ordered. For food: - Maine sea scallops (butternut squash ~ broccoli ~ preserved lemon) - the scallops were amazing. Super fresh and not over cooked at all. -Pappardelle funghi with truffles (three different types of mushroom) - The Pappardelle funghi was tasty with the noodles being the right consistency, not over cooked and not too al dente. Yum. Dessert: -Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta with the chef's own raised honey. This was the highlight of my meal. I loved the sliced peach with the vanilla bean panna cotta and honey syrup around the panna cotta. I highly recommend this dish. Overall, I really enjoy the Alden and would definitely come back. Kudos to the chef and the entire staff for being so nice and attentive the whole night. read more

Our meal last night was genuinely the best out-of-home meal I've had in years. Each course was uniquely and meticulously prepared. Watching the smooth flow of the kitchen was mesmerizing. Not only is the food itself an incredible eating experience, the presentation of the food is fantastic. Super high quality, fresh ingredients sourced from many places shine through in the meal. What a delight! This cafe is a perfect date night destination, but I could also imagine stopping by with friends after work for a glass of wine & small plate. Interesting menu, with plenty to choose from. Ditto for the wine list, with a very nice selection of wines by the glass or bottle. I loved my perfect pan fried flounder, and my husband's cold smoked salmon was equally deliciously. We shared a vanilla panna cotta for dessert. Sublime. Now the service: attentive, knowledgeable and friendly servers gave us the feeling we were visiting good friends who loved food. The chef even visited our table to check on us! I highly recommend: this can easily become Chamblee's best neighborhood restaurant or a destination for any Atlantan. read more
