Upon arriving to Chattanooga, it was suggested that I visit, Chattanooga Cigar Club. One my party…read moreof 3 arrived to the door one person had to return a purse to the car (which wasn't an issue) since the signage stated "No big handbags!" After walking through gravel and returning, we entered, paid, once I sat down, the security came to mention that my other friend needed to return her handbag. The signage should be clear for ALL patrons and not discretion. The dimensions of the purse did not equate to large or big. I looked across the room and saw a purse (same size) sitting on a counter that someone else had. I was baffled that security saw us, allowed us to enter and pay. The communication with the owner was poor. No eye contact and seem as if he did not want to be bothered and sadly we were told he wasn't there. Tip: Provide clear communication to ALL staff and on signage to clearly specify the dimensions of handbags that are not permitted and be sure that your staff is informed, instead of picking who you want to select, because there's difference in a large tote, small handbag, clutch or wristlet.

Looks the part of an old style bar with well-worn wooden bar. Bartenders were friendly & attentive. I decided to try The Social Sour, which is basically a New York sour - a whiskey sour with a red wine float. It looks great & tasted great too but I wasn't absolutely sure it was actually red wine on top. In any case try that or the barkeep's old fashioned.

Wow! I really wanted to like this place based on the reviews stating how the bartenders are so…read morefriendly and accommodating. Sadly, as an individual customer, that was not my experience on a Thursday night. I arrived a little before 7pm and I was warmly greeted by Drew. I told her I was excited to dine here, specifically in the bar, based on reviewers comments. Her friendliness and positive attitude assured me I made the right decision. However, the bar area was not as inviting or welcoming as the evening progressed. My bartender was cordial and asked if I wanted a cocktail. I asked if this place makes a good Cosmopolitan. He said "Do you like it tart or sweet?" (Never been asked that before, but I appreciated the question.) I said "tart" and he made me the BEST Cosmopolitan I've had in a while! It was served half in a glass and the rest in a small decanter surrounded in a glass of ice. Great presentation and even better drink! Just a touch of pink and nice and strong. 5 star start! Then, it went downhill. I ordered the Wedge Salad ($9) and the Seared Scallops ($18), both under the "Starters, Small Plates" section. Both were very good, with excellent presentation. I should have realized the "Small Plates" would only provide a few scallops (3), but they were very well prepared and quite good. After I ordered and the food was provided, little customer service was given thereafter. I had to ask for water refills twice. (When I finally asked for my check, I got a refill without asking.) During this time, only one other customer was in the bar. The two bartenders were talking to another employee about a streaming finale one recently watched. Eventually, the second bartender came onto my side and I asked if I could order one more item from him since my bartender never came back. (The first bartender was Josh, which I discovered when I got the bill receipt.) The other bartender took my order for the Pot Roast Nachos (as I still somewhat hungry) and the Nachos were absolutely fantastic, just like the reviews recommended. At 8pm, I left as I was the only patron left in the bar (I wonder why?) and they were cleaning up even though closing was still an hour away. The bill for two cocktails and the food mentioned above came to $77. Then, $13 was added for Tennessee state/county tax and also liquor/wine tax!!! Was my meal and service worth $100, not really. As I left, I saw the personable Drew and she asked me how the evening went. I explained and she apologized that it did not meet my expectations. I said I just think I came on an off night. However, maybe she should tell management that if only one customer is left at the bar, you should treat them with the attention and respect as anyone who came in earlier. I don't feel I received the service I deserved for the price I paid so sadly, I can only provide a review based on this one time experience.

"What's upstairs?"…read more That's been the question on Chattanooga's social scene's mind for the past year. Everyone wants to climb the stairs of the second floor of The Bitter Alibi. Well, now you can! The idea is a cocktail bar. Pretty simple, right? And that's just it, that's all it is. No tricks, no whistles, no $16 cocktails with some weird Japanese spirit that you don't know anything about. You want a good cocktail by seasoned bartenders, well, then there ya go. Oh, and they dress them up! Umbrellas! Fun straws! Even little plastic pterodactyls. Yeah, I don't know what it means either, but it's fun and much better than staying at home watching America's Funniest Home Videos and eating your sad pasta. It's a very intimate space, enough for about 20 people. The idea is reminiscent of a tiki lounge; macramé adorns the walls, the daiquiris are served in big parrot-styled cups, there's a sound system playing club music. There's even a porch overlooking The Big Nine District and the MLK Mural. Bring your best friends, or that girl you've dropped the ball on asking out for the past two weeks -- she'll be impressed.

The reason for only three stars is the last time I was here my husband was having a meeting so I stopped by to say a quick hello to his reps and I had our baby (I think she was about 4-6 months at the time) and the bartender berated me for walking in with a stroller because it was 21 and up--as if my baby was going to order a whiskey neat. I totally understand the TABC issue, but she could have approached me more tactfully than yelling across the room. Other than that, it's a cool spot that we used to frequent, and my main critiques are that they incorporate more food options into the menu and maybe provide some etiquette classes for their staff.

We walked in the bar area at H2O lounge. We ordered a round of drinks, no problem. The drinks were good, if not a little pricey. We went for another round and the guy behind the bar said, "Bar's closed". We ordered from a girl that was real nice earlier. We were like huh? He said we close at 11. Again, wha??? Ok, so you guys don't do last call? He was obviously ready to go home and not eager to answer questions. He wore a scowl on his face. Not sure what his problem was, but he missed out on a great tip. The girl came back and said she'd do a last call for us. We ordered, even at the protest of the guy bartender, and she served our last drinks. We tipped her, closed the tab down and left. A hotel bar should be open later than 11 pm on a Saturday night. Rediculous. I liked the girl bartender, but I've been to bars that are actually glad to make tips. I mean, they realize that's their bread and butter. I won't choose to go back.

If you want to hang out around a bunch of drunk teenagers being illegally served, this is the place! If you want to potentially get shot by a gang member like in the good old days of Coyote Jack's, this is the place! If you want to score some drugs in the restroom and on the dance floor, this is the place! When any of these were brought to his attention, the owner was extremely arrogant, condescending and snotty. He's from up north and has a real distaste for the locals. At least the fights are great. Not on TV. In the place and pouring out onto Station St. It seems that the only thing the bouncers are good at are pushing small females around and being rude to anyone waiting outside. They certainly can't keep the peace. I've debated on writing this for a while, as I love supporting good local businesses and I want to see a lot of success on Station St., but this place just makes the whole area unsafe and it's only a matter of time before someone gets shot.
