The food here is really good, if you eat it right away. I have ordered take out here a few times and the bread gets really soggy which is kind of gross. The people that work there are very nice. One time they kind of messed up my order (didn't put jalapeños, my favorite part) and forgot the cheese and bacon on my friends sandwich. I'd still go back though. I went with a teenage grandson, he had pizza from Connie's, I tried a burger from That Burger Joint. I had a Junior Burger on a pretzel roll. The grilled burger was seasoned well and tasty, the pretzel roll was fantastic. The order taker made a mistake with my order for a burger and charged for and delivered a cheeseburger. Since I was sitting with my grandson, I never heard them call my name when my order was ready, I had to go and check for my food. My food-only bill was $10.50 for the burger, small fries and a soft drink. My grandson's food-only bill was $10.48 for two pepperoni slices and a soft drink. He said the pizza was good. read more

Maybe I just love 5 guys too much to be able to be objective about a made to order burger place. The thing I did kind of like...it was definitely strange...the attached Oberwiess and Connies --kind of a little food mall I guess and it was smart. Pizza, burger and then dessert all under one roof. There could be more of these and with Chi town winter it would be nice have a warm place with choices that were not mall food court. Ok too much business planning happening in my head right now...back to the review. I ordered the smaller burger and my husband got the bigger featured one. The fries were pretty good served in the same style you may have seen. In a large cup...keeps them warm. The burgers took quite some time. We were the only ones there. I have been to TBJ about 6 times since it has opened, and I have always had a very good experience for what I am expecting, which is fast-casual hamburgers and fries with an added bonus of being attached to an Oberweis. I also like that their meat is never frozen & cruelty-free. My most recent experience was on Saturday,11/28/15, around 6:30 PM, so that is the experience I will review. The restaurant was very clean when we got there, each table was wiped down and the counter where you can get condiments and pop was spotless. As far as food goes, I wasn't very hungry tonight so I only had a regular french fries with some ketchup. The french fries were delicious as always, they're fresh-cut and have the skins on them! They're pretty greasy (yet crisp, at least at first) and not very salty, but that's how I LIKE my french fries! I usually get a hamburger as well, and even though I didn't have one this time I will say that I have never had any issues with my burgers. I'm a bit picky so I even specify amounts such as "easy mustard" and my burgers have always been made correctly to my specifications. Maybe my pickiness demands greater scrutiny because I've seen a lot of reviews here complaining of mistakes. Tonight my boyfriend had a double burger on a pretzel bun with bacon, jalapeno, BBQ sauce and raw onions (he always gets that) and he devoured it. He even considered getting a second one tonight, which he has never done before (he decided against it in the end though.) I will say that we definitely like TBJ much better than 5 Guys or Meatheads, and it's neck-and-neck with Tom & Eddies. The reason I deducted a star was because TBJ only offers American cheese on their cheeseburgers, which is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. If there was a wider range of cheeses available (even just 2 or 3 more!) I would give it 5 stars. read more

Been frequenting TBJ for a couple of years now. I like Five Guys but TBJ is on a whole different level. Bigger, juicier patties are the norm. Love the options of pretzel buns and patty melts. I've never had a bad meal from this place. Even the chicken tenders and hot dogs are worth trying. A little on the pricey side but still fair for the quality you get. Painfully slow........definitely has a Glen Ellyn feel. You can get an Oberweis shake with your meal but I was done long before the meal arrived. Should be better staffed at dinner time on a Saturday night. Hopefully they will figure out how to move things along because there are plenty of other options close by that move a little quicker. read more

It's kinda of weird because there is an Oberweis and a pizza place and they are all attached but super convenient to get ice cream afterwards! The menu is limited and the staff there offers no help. When you place your order you have a choice of bun (pretzel buns, yum) and they ask you all annoyed like you should know what the choices are. You order at the counter and then they call your number to come get it when it's ready. Although the last time we were there they never called our number. My husband finally looked over in their direction since all other customers had been served and she just nodded her head at us. I was starving and staring them down as they cooked so there no way we just didn't hear them . Despite the service the food is decent. Pretzel buns are good, burgers are good and greasy and toppings are fresh. The fries are also tasty. We have been there a few times but I really only go there if Five Guys or Meatheads isn't handy. read more

If you like baseball here is the "nice" comparison. This "that burger joint" is like a floundering double A prospect...a potential big league candidate with a LONG way to go. The pretzel bun looked like a great option but was two days past it's prime...not good. The burger patty came out of the cooler strong but fizzled out quick. While the staff, including the "manager" was flirting around with the staff from Connie's and Oberwiess on their headphones, I watched my burger get the life preserver from the grease pool by a cook with a sloppy spatula (after he wiped his brow bare handed and grabbed my bun). Hoping they knew how to overcome their distraction by the high schooler's walking in and the pretty girl slinging Ice cream, they let the burger sink in grease with a disgusting presentation. Though I ordered in, my burger literally fell through the to-go bag because of the sloppy grease. It really turned into a flop of a prospect burger joint. Sorry Mr. Oberweiss...too many better burger joints out there to give it a go again. Sell it all and go sushi and gellato! read more

Sick. Never again. The burger literally dripped with grease. The place, although brand new, looked dirty. After using five paper towels to wipe down the burger and the bun which were both dripping with grease, I took a bite and had to chuck it. Even with that one bite I feel my arteries clogging up. Ordered the burger with a side of fries. The burger was juicy, well cooked, and included a pretzel bun which really made the burger come together. The only downside of the burger was that it was a little cold due to the wait time described below.The fries were fresh cut and cooked. All around it was a great meal. The only complaint and why I gave the restaurant three stars was that the wait time was around 50 minutes. This is due to the store just opening, so I would recommend waiting a couple months to try this burger. The rating will likely change next time I visit this burger joint. read more

That Burger Joint is delicious! The whole family loves it. There are lots of burger places in the area but TBJ is by far the best- we always opt to go there when we can. My daughter and I drove all the way from Bloomingdale right by Five Guys just to come to Burger Joint. The pretzel bun option is definitely a plus, the burgers are nice and juicy and if you get cheese and bacon, well, that equals perfection!! The fries are perfectly salted and not too crunchy or big like some fries. The service is also wonderfully friendly, and the decor is neat and clean; AND with the TouchTunes you can choose the music (add your song of choice to a queue and it will play) and take pictures and share them. This location is conveniently right by Oberweis dairy so you can get milk & ice cream for dessert. You should definitely try TBJ, it is amazing!!! read more

I love these burgers! The fries are great, too! The most outstanding part of this entire establishment (I'm including Oberweis in this too, since they're jointly located) is the customer service. Every single time my kids and I eat here, we have experienced top-notch service. Absolutely very professional staff behind the counter. They are always positive, friendly and smart. Sunday 7:00. Not busy. "Ordered 2 burgers and fries for dining in". Received food in a greasy bag instead. 2 Burgers - not assembled to the order (buns switched). Taste of the burger was very bland. Maybe overcooked. Lettuce was soggy. Fries were totally gross -greasy, burned a bit. Price was fair and service reasonably fast but again, nothing special.
