I've now visited three times since Honey Jam Café took over George's Restaurant, and unfortunately, it's been consistently disappointing. The location--across from Gerald Honda--is convenient, but that's about the only positive. The food is underwhelming at best. I ordered the corned beef skillet, which is my usual go-to, so I know what a good one should taste like. This one was bland, the sunny-side-up eggs were a tad overcooked and the hash browns lacked any crispness around the edges. Honestly, without ketchup, it would've been hard to get through. Overall, the atmosphere felt dull and depressing. Country music soundtrack made it more so. At this point, it's clear the kitchen needs improvement, whether that's retraining or revisiting recipes. I have been to this establishment before and was pleased by the food and service. Today I asked my husband to get 2 salads with grilled chicken on top because my air conditioner needed repair and the temperature outdoors was nearing 100! Not the day to cook. He went to HONEY AND JAM and asked for 2 large salads with grilled chicken. The waitress had no idea how to charge him because those "exact words" were not on the menu. She called for help. My husband trusted that they would do a good job and make a "normal" salad (greens, tomatoes, onions, etc) and top with a grilled chicken breast. Instead they put some mixed greens in a carry out dish and a few cubes of chicken....they charged for 2 large Cobb Salads (which is loaded with other ingredients like, bacon, cheese, etc). You have got to see what I got and what they charged for it! Incredible!! Never NEVER again. And a TIP? For what? We came to you. Giving 3 stars because the potatoes were extra and didnt come with the meal. Potatoes also didn't taste good, didn't bother taking pics of them. Eggs and sausage patties were fine. I do love the idea of combos they have. For example, my french toast combo, i was able to pick a special flavor that i wanted to try, while being able to have my savory meal as well. I was disappointed that there were no updates made to the interior since it was was and is still outdated and not what I would co sider up to the same standards as other locations. We were greeted quickly and warmly and guided to our seats. Waitress brought us water and coffee immediately after coming to our table. Food came fast and all was delicious! I had the breakfast waffle combo - eggs, ham steak and waffle. My daughter had biscuits & gravy and she too enjoyed her meal. I took one star off only because as we walked in there was a powerful, putrid smell coming in through the vents as you walk in. We almost walked back out. However once we were inside and seated the smell dissipated to almost nothing. I asked the hostess about the smell and she explained it was being addressed as previous owners had somehow botched the plumbing that caused the smell to come through the vents. The ambiance was ok. I guess I expected a more modern look based on the outside aesthetic. It seems spacious though. I'm not sure if they were understaffed but when we walked in there was no one to greet us and we stood there for about 5 mins before someone did. The food was ok. I ordered a veggie skillet which I felt could've been better. Maybe more seasoning on the veggies. Not sure. My bf said well "you did order a veggie skillet" but I've had the same thing plenty of places and this one just tasted flat. My bf said his food was good and he would give it a 4-5 star. The waiter was nice. But got my order wrong and when I advised it wasn't right he kind of stared at me for a second before taking it away. He apologized when he brought the new one out. We also ordered their honey biscuits and they were pretty good. Nothing over the top. Another complaint the fact they had multiple meals/drinks on the menu that said they came with a side or I could substitute with almond milk but when I asked about it they advised it they couldn't. I was in the Chicago area for a day, traveling on a short trip with little time to visit family. So, I invited 9 family members to join me for a lunch at Honey-Jam. Interestingly enough, they all live within the vicinity of Countryside and none have ever been to Honey Jam before. I got there first, asked for a table to accommodate the group and asked for water and the menus. My family arrived and we were comfortable. The server was prompt and patient. We got our beverages and placed our orders. The music was a tad loud for conversation for my senior siblings. The food was very good, no complaints. The quality and quantity for the price was also appropriate. Our server was really good and attentive. We felt cared for. My only disappointment was that I asked for the check to be given to me and I had a credit card ready. I did not look at the check total and was given a tablet style kiosk to sign with tip amount. I added a 20% tip without knowing the server already added a 20% tip. In total she was tipped $55 on a bill that was under $120. IT'S SHAMEFUL TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF CUSTOMERS WHO DON'T HAVE THE MINDFULNESS TO CHECK FOR THE GROUP TIP. IT SHOULD BE A STANDARD PRACTICE TO ANNOUNCE TO THE GROUP THAT THEY WILL HAVE AN AUTOMATIC 20% TIP ADDED TO THE BILL. read more

First time visiting this place with my husband. At least from our experience, I'm surprised overall reviews aren't higher. Dined on a Friday morning, so the restaurant wasn't packed, but a decent amount of customers. I had the Nashville Spicy Chicken & Waffles, and paired it with the Raspberry Mimosa (limited time offerings.) It was a great balance of spicy & sweet. The waitress gave me a heads up on the sauce that came with the meal, suggesting putting it on the side. Great suggestion, since the sauce is more of a rich Tabasco/hot sauce. It wouldn't have worked on the waffles, but was great for dipping the crispy fried chicken tenders (crispy on the outside, moist on the inside.) She also suggested the chipotle syrup to go with it. It started out sweet, but the heat kicked in at the end. Another great pairing! My husband had the Supreme Omelette (egg white) & added spinach. Went here for Sunday Easter brunch. My dad was the only one who got lunch he got a turkey club sandwich with tater tots and a cup of soup. Me, my brother and step brother all got breakfast. I got scrambled eggs, 3 turkey sausage patties, a fruit cup can be substituted if you don't want hashbrowns and 2 chocolate chip pancakes. I started with an iced mocha it was excellent really recommend that drink. The place was packed and busy on Easter Sunday for breakfast-brunch. The waitress Erica she was fantastic our food came about 30 minutes later after we ordered. When a place like this is packed you gotta have some patience, and 30 minute wait for food was decent. I been to 3 different Honey Jam Cafe locations the one in Bolingbrook, the one on Downers Grove off 75th Street, and Countryside. They have about a dozen locations spread around Illinois and just opened a Honey Jam out in Munster, Indiana which tells me how successful Honey Jam is by crossing statelines. Fantastic Job giving everyone their food out fresh and hot at Coutnryside everything that came out that kitchen looked great. I requested both feta and cheddar in my omelette and they only added feta. Although the veggies were sautéed down it lacked in flavor. When asked if I could swap the pancakes out for a waffle, I was told yes and that there would be an up charge. They brought out half (1/2) of a waffle. Not sure what they did with the other half and although it was crispy is was cold. The bacon was over cooked, hard and cold and tasted like it had been sitting in bacon fat overnight. Not edible by any means. The skillet was made incorrectly. It was suppose to have just ham, cheese and veggies in it. They ended up giving us a meat lovers skillet and it lacked in flavor and size. What they are supposed to be know for is there honey jam biscuit. It was dry and cold. The spread they provide did not layer smoothly and tasted like jelly with powered sugar on top. read more

I LOVE Honey Jam Cafe! I have only been to this location. The coffees and cocktails are great. I've only been on Sundays when it's packed so I appreciate the time to enjoy my drink before the food comes out. Even when food is taking a bit, servers are attentive. I love that there are so many options for vegetarians and vegans. I usually order a savory breakfast but the French toast, waffles and pancakes look amazing. Impressive! New restaurant from an old JC George's spot. They have made it bigger, or maybe they just opened up more. I love the service as the gentleman was so attentive and I ordered the turkey (BLT) with Curley fries, and it was really fresh. Of course, a lot of food (no complaint here), but I have a takeout bag. The whole restaurant is still reminiscent of what was once here, but the staff has changed. It seems busier also, and that is a plus! You get a good vibe here as the staff is very diverse and is so kind. This is why I tip the way I do, as good food, good service equal great tips. We were sat in a part of the restaurant I never sat at, and that was nice. A whole different outlook to the place so I had great conversation. I liked the fact that the restaurant was a bit more expansive with how folks were situated. As in the past restaurant, they sat everyone close together and in the same area. This actually makes for a better experience as you can actually talk and not have other patrons hear your conversations. But getting back to the food, I was really impressed how my sandwich was made, and even more than that, I was seriously happy that the waiter brought me my own carafe for coffee, and this is a plus as I don't have to wait for them to refresh if they are busy. This time wasn't so busy, but I still appreciated the carafe. My coffee was super good and fresh and that seriously makes me smile. I was incredibly excited to see Honey Jam coming in after the old restaurant that was here closed. Sadly, it's left little to be desired for us and we've tried this location 3 times. The only reason I will give a step above one star is because I've never been disappointed with their pancakes. They are consistent across the board and they have some really fun and tasty options for their "specialty" pancakes (blueberry bliss is where it's at) Otherwise, their food has been subpar and shortly after leaving we wind up not feeling great. My only speculation is the amount of oil they are cooking with, or potentially the quality. Because of this, we've tried numerous items on the menu including lunch options and have had the same result. The Downers Grove location off Butterfield has been a much better experience and I would suggest going there if you can make the drive - but get there early because they get BUSY. Lastly, I would highly recommend they consider a remodel as it feels like they churned and burned to get this one open without doing any sort of interior work or updating from the prior restaurant. Another thing we prefer about the DG location mentioned above, their decor and setup in there just feels cozier overall. read more

Want to see what the hype was since the name changed. Well the foods ok nothing to write home about as far as breakfast joints. Service was great. Food was not as good as the last owner. Prices of the food was very high for two people. Coffee drinks were a awful sour taste that stuck with you till I got a mint or brushed my teeth again. Over it was eatable food but not worth what they are charging. Blue berry hill in Lagrange is so much better. Close to almost 80.00 for breakfast for two with tip. That's crazy! Never again! Honey Jam is such a popular place they just opened up another location near my house. The food was excellent and our waiter, Josh, was very nice. My friend and I came here for a late breakfast today (Saturday). Thankfully it wasn't too busy and they were able to seat us right away. The server was friendly and fairly prompt. I ordered banana bread french toast and a side of extra crispy hash browns. The food came out in less than 10 minutes, which was nice. But my hash browns were definitely not crispy so I asked the server to take them back and make them more crispy. He obliged and took them away. By the time I was done eating the banana bread french toast, my hash browns came out. They were extra crispy this time, just the way I like it. After eating a few bites, I went to pick up another bite and saw a long black, curly hair cooked into the hash browns! Literally weaved nicely into the crispy hash browns. I showed the server and asked him to take them back and off the bill. A few minutes later he came back and said he took them off the bill. A manager never came to speak with us. So when we were up front paying, I asked to speak with a manager. The host asked why and I told her. I asked if there was anything they could do to rectify this situation and they looked at me dumbfounded. The host made my friend pay before the manager came up to speak with me. I had the corn beef hash with hash browns - potion of the corned beef hash was too small and the hash browns undercooked. Asked for the toast after I had eaten my corned beef hash which was somewhat overdone but edible. Crappy selection of jams. Coffee unlimited. Service was satisfactory and out waitress very pleasant.
