Great burgers! Delicious fries. Decent chicken. Lacking service. I waited maybe 4-5 minutes and didn't see a single person this last visit. I walked out to go somewhere else. It looks like this is a weekend / evening place for dinner. Their burgers are great - made fresh, big, juicy and with tasty toppings! At lunch time... it's slow, so I get it. Maybe get a system in place so that when someone at Oberweiss sees customers at That Burger Joint, just across the dining area, they make a call and get someone to take the order. didn't read reviews or see the rating for this place. i walked in and it's ghost town on one side. when ordering there is a mess by the oil and just gross. i gave it the benefit of doubt and tried a cheeseburger. there was only one girl working and it came out after 10 minutes. they didn't have something on their menu so she let me know and told me they can refund it i said no problem. the fries were okay. seemed very greasy and just tasted the oil. the burger was not good. read more

That Burger Joint is a fast casual burger place owned by Oberweis Dairy. They shares a building with Oberweis and a Woodgrain pizza. I would assume Woodgrain is also owned by Oberweis. There is very little dividing the three businesses. If you're eating at That Burger Joint or Woodgrain and there are tons of loud kids at Oberweis, it will definitely affect your dining experience. After visiting the DuPage County Fairgrounds late night flea market, I picked up some dinner here. There were a ton of loud kids/teens at Oberweis. Only one employee doing all of the That Burger Joint work, so service was very slow. I ordered a patty melt. Good meat, cheese, and onions on grilled rye bread. My only complaint about my food was that it was very salty...and I think it was something on the bread. My boyfriend got the steakhouse burger (mushrooms, blue cheese, and peppercorn mayo). He really liked his food. And we shared some cheese fries. Overall, the food was decent. I might come back, but not likely to the Glen Ellyn location as it's quite a distance from home. read more

My hubby and I stopped in for dinner this last Sunday, around 6 pm. It isn't my place to tell the shift leader some thoughts, but I will share with you. Now please realize this isn't cheap eats and as such, I come to expect more. I ordered the single burger and chocolate milk; my hubby, spicy chik sandwich meal with chocolate milk. The milk was empty. Instructed to walk to ice cream side and ask for milk. Tables were dirty. Floor had straws and papers. Chik was ok, burger was palatable but did not in any way have that "wow, I'm coming back because it's gosh darn good" factor. Observation: 4-5 employees on ice cream side; 1 employee on burger side. Light customer traffic. Recommendation: reallocate ice cream side employees to floor/passive cleanup instead of milling around behind the counter. Sidenote: after leaving, outside door dirty with fingerprints. I did not notice coming in but after dirty tables, a hefty tab, inadequate drinks, I did notice and intend on not visiting for a while. This used to be good, was good and could be good again, but needs TLC and proper supervision. read more

You definitely don't lack for choices here since it is connected with an Oberwies and Woodgrain pizza. We ordered chicken tenders, a burger and a grilled chicken sandwich. At places like this, the grilled chicken is often. Over cooked and too dry. My sandwich was pretty good for a basic grilled chicken sandwich. Maybe a tad heavy on the lettuce but otherwise good. The chicken tenders were not very good. The breading was bland, they were very greasy and the chicken was a lite rubbery. The burger was just OK...not terrible, not great. The fries were VERY greasy and underseasoned. The prices were also a tad high -- around $50 for everything -- to meal deals with fries and drink, the third with no fries and a drink. The fries were plentiful so we could have ordered one meal deal and shared the fries. Ultimately, not a terrible place, but not something to go out of your way for. read more

You also cannot back out of the drive through if a car pulls in behind you since it's on a ramp. Absolutely atrocious service. Will never be here again. My mom, daughter and I came here tonight and it was delicious. Got the single burger meal and best burger I've had in a long time. Even the tenders my daughter got were tender lol and not a thick breading which is nice. It was a really quiet night and the staff were really friendly. It's also connected to the oberweis which is awesome if you want dessert as well. Honestly the best burger I've had in a long time. Would definitely come back soon. That Burger Joint is a nice break-from-the-norm burger spot that offers different options you won't find other places. They make good burgers, plain and simple. The business setup is something I don't fully understand but it appears that they are owned by Oberweis? Anyway, that's great! Who wouldn't want an Oberweis shake with a tasty burger?! We went with their standard burger, fries, and a drink and watched as all were prepared fresh in front of our eyes. The burgers are tasty and ample and the fries are just the way I like them! We couldn't have been happier giving this place a shot. Honestly, nothing will jump out at you on the menu because it ALL sounds good (and I have a feeling it is!). Looks great from the outside with a nice themed restaurant and modern kitchen. The menu looks attractive, the food combinations sound delicious -- but the food unfortunately is fairly forgettable. This is a restaurant that looks like an upscale, trendy burger place but is no better than typical fast food. Here were my thoughts on the items I tried: Chicken tenders: The BBQ sauce lacked sweetness and acidity here and really had no complexity nor bite to it. The chicken tenders themselves lacked marination and the batter was barely crisp with barely any spices. The meat itself could've been more tender and juicy. Fries: Thin and crispy and were cooked-to-order. However, they really lacked seasoning, were a bit too oily, and didn't have a strong potato flavor. Burger: Patties were piled on thick but underseasoned and not that juicy. The tomatoes, onion, and mushrooms were fairly fresh but didn't do a lot to add flavor to the burger. This was very similar five-guys, but not executed as well. Overall, the food here isn't bad but it isn't really worth the price you're paying for it. Perhaps the best part of visiting here is the bottomless chocolate milk -- but you can safely skip the burgers. read more

So yum! My husband ordered the Double Chipotle Jack. My son ordered the Double Mushroom Swiss. They both stated best burgers ever. I got the Loaded Fries and was not disappointed. The staff was as nice as they could be... we went during Covid and they could only do so much. They also have a parking lot and a dining area out back. This is such a great place for families because of all the choices and the room available, but we went tonight and the pizza place is closed and the burger joint did not look at all clean. There was visible piles of grease, food splatter... none of the surfaces where they were cooking look like they have been cleaned in months. I moved to the area last year and have been coming to this spot since then. From the mixed reviews I'm reading on Yelp it seems as if a lot of these bad reviews stem from bad service but I've never had an issue. I read lots of mixed reviews. I'm giving 4 stars primarily because my burger was very good, lots of flavor and the fries were also really good. Made the mistake of getting a large fry not realizing it could feed 2 people easily. Yes prices are on the high side. We had a burger combo and a extra large fry and it was 18$ for fast food style service it is a little high but with the taste of the food being good it takes away some of the feeling of higher prices. I would definitely go back sometime but not very often as I could have a sit down wait service meal for about the same price. Every now and then works for me and besides I ate about my whole day of calories in just one meal so definitely not a good choice for healthy or calorie counting eater. read more

This is a decent burger place, nothing special. The problem is the expectations that come when the owner (Oberweis) says that he is setting out to compete directly with Five Guys... so if you are going to set the stage that way, you better bring your "A" game. Didn't happen. Like I said, I'm not a hater, the burger was good. I got the regular (a double.. just like Five Guy's does it) on a regular bun and Lisa got the Junior on a pretzel roll. We enjoyed the food, fries were decent and we'd go back if we had friends that wanted to go there.. or if our grandson develops a thing for milkshakes (The Oberweis section rocks) Otherwise.. probably not. I think I prefer Smashburger and Meatheads too.. I know I like Five Guy's better.. better fries, better burgers and the way better 1 gazillion flavors Coke machine. Oh, and peanuts too. That Burger Joint falls short in pretty much every category. On a positive note if you are disagreeing on what food to eat, someone can go to the attached Connies for some "just ok" pizza, while you get your "just ok" burger. I've been watching the construction on this place for a while and have been very curious about it. As the other reviews indicate, this is three restaurants sharing one main space. To me it seemed like That Burger Joint was the most popular. The seating seemed limited and not very comfortable. We sat at a tiny table for two and felt like the restaurant was super loud and chaotic- a place to catch a quick bite but not a place to chat or hang out. There were so many people in a small space. The people working were friendly and my husband and I both noticed that they were very smiley. That was cool- great eye contact and a sincere-seeming smile when we were handed our food. I like that the burgers are made from beef that is certified humane, with no hormones or antibiotics. I like that they have pretzel buns (or you can choose a plain bun). I like that you can choose your own toppings and most are included with the price of the burger. I also like that you can see them make your burger right in front of you. We didn't feel like we had to wait long. As we were waiting we saw an older couple using napkins to wipe the grease off their burgers. They are a little greasy. They were pretty tasty- I liked my burger better than my husband liked his. They tasted a little bland, even with sauce. I didn't like the fries- I think I'm one of the weird ones who don't really like fresh cut fries! I thought they needed more salt, which I added, and they also have containers of seasoned salt on the counter too. I was disappointed in the drink choices- they didn't offer iced tea or rootbeer- they have just six pop options, water, and then Oberweis chocolate or white milk. The drinks are only a $1.50, though which is better than a lot of places. You can get free sauce on the side for your fries- we tried the petal sauce which is popular- it's a mix between ketchup, horseradish, and one more thing I forget- maybe mayo. My husband also got it on his burger. You can have a burger, cheeseburger, grilled chicken, chicken with cheese, or a hot dog (with or without cheese) and fries- that's what they offer. But the toppings are a good variety- mayo, petal sauce, ranch, barbecue, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, pickles, jalapenos, onions, relish, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, and then bacon for an extra $1. There was a sweet younger girl (I'm thinking younger than 16) in a Connie's shirt that walked around checking in- that was a nice touch! If you park in back there are stairs to climb to get to the restaurant. I didn't see an elevator but may have missed it. It seemed like almost every table was ordering a shake from Oberweis. I am very suggestible so we ended up getting shakes to go. (YOU HAVE TO TRY OBERWEIS'S NEW EXPRESSO CARAMEL CHIP ICE CREAM- WOW!) I appreciate that you can come here with people and have three options for food (at different counters) and I think you can sit in any of the three sections regardless of what you order. It seemed hard to get a table on a Thursday at dinner unless you moved to the Oberweis area that seemed to have more comfortable seating and brighter lighting. Overall, I found it a little stressful with how crowded it felt and how loud it was, but the food choices are good! read more

What you get out of this place depends on what you go on looking for. They do not use antibiotics in their food so if you want to get a semi tamper free meal that will satisfy you junk food cravings then this is place to go. Space is jammed full, three restaurants have a presence in one area, very crowded like a god court at a mall. Good place to bring loud children that are unsupervised. It is very expensive. It cost me over 10 dollars for my meal which is pictured. Good experience for an irregular stop but I will probably stick with portillos. Try it once and decide from there. read more

I thought it was time for an update now that TBJ has had time to work out the kinks. I had a coupon for a free burger, too, so I thought we might as well use it. The place had a steady trickle of customers during the lunch hour, but was not as busy as you'd expect for the location. My burger was still delicious, and I enjoyed the pretzel bun as before. However, the restroom has not been kept up (empty paper towels and an overflowing trash can), and the employees somehow seem nervous, like they are still practicing or something. I couldn't find a high chair clean enough for Baby to sit in, and this was during lunch, when there would have been ample time during opening (or closing the night before) for a well-trained staff to wipe them down. I don't mind eating in a dive with charmingly unkempt facilities for great food. But that is not this place...this is a new building and a chain restaurant, so they need to work harder at the details. I don't think we'll be back (unless I keep getting free food). read more

I tried calling to speak to a manager and nobody answered and then finally I get an operator telling me to call back later and then got disconnected. The Burger Joint was very good!! This place is very similar to 5 guys. About the same in price as 5 Guys with less fries. Drink options are limited but they have an Oberweis and some other restaurant connected. The burger was good and my patty melt was even better! The fries were good but you do not get as many as 5 Guys. Also no peanut while you wait for your food. We had milkshakes from oberweis, large fry for both of us, cheese burger on a pretzel bun and a patty melt. They do not advertise the pretzel bun but it is an option. Everything tasted great! We usually get our burgers to-go here, which means not unwrapping the burgers until we get home. The first time we ordered here it was great! Prompt, good service, nice grilled mushrooms, wonderful! The next 8 times we've been here, they've messed up at least 3 elements of our order. And because we get to go, and don't want to unwrap and examine the burgers in the store, lest they get cold by the time we get home, we drive away and hope for the best. Of course, after we get home and discover the errors, we have to drive back to the store. That's about 40 minutes of driving back and forth for $15 worth of fast food. So why do we keep going back? Because they very kindly give us coupons for free burgers and fries. In fact, I've eaten here 9 times, and have only paid for 2 visits. So thank you, I guess, for the free food. But at some point, you really got to get your act together. I think a business would like to make money, not give a couple a lifetime supply of burgers, if only they do an extra bit of driving. read more

For quite a while, where a bank once stood along Roosevelt road there have been signs and construction up touting a new location for the Glen Ellyn Oberweis Dairy store, a Connie's Pizza and something called "That Burger Joint". The first thing that popped through my mind when reading that name was "So it's a burger restaurant that's a spinoff of That 70s Show?". Driving by on Friday I noticed it's finally open and a few friends of mine and I decided to stop in and give it a try. The first thing to note is that it's directly connected to the Oberweis Dairy Store next to it. It's basically one open area where you can roam from one location to another. There's also signage for a Connie's Pizza, and an open unfinished space where I'm assuming it will eventually reside. When walking into That Burger Joint you'll notice a menu extremely similar to Five Guys. Lots of toppings for burgers, and lots of options. Immediately upon gazing at the menu board I noticed they have a hot dog, I decided to try both the hot dog and the burger. With the hot dog I got it as close as possible to a Chicago style dog in the interest of keeping it consistent with most of my other hot dog reviews. The hot dog I ordered had mustard, relish, onions, and tomato on it. The burger I ordered was with a pretzel bun and it was a double cheeseburger with grilled onions, mushrooms, mayo, mustard, and lettuce. It took a few minutes for the food to be ready but once my order was out I was ready to dig in. I'm going to go over the hot dog first. The hot dog I received here came on a regular non-poppy seed bun. Due to the excessive application of relish the bun was almost soggy and barely stayed together while attempting to eat the hot dog. The hot dog inside was sliced up the middle so that all of the juices and flavors would escape in the heating process. This wasn't necessarily such a bad thing as the quality and taste of the sausage used here isn't particularly great and reminds me of a cheap grocery store hot dog. While this wasn't entirely designed to be a Chicago style hot dog and I can't quite hold it to the same standards I would if it were a place that used stock ingredients, I will say I was by no means impressed by the hot dog and you'd have to be smoking a "That Burger Joint" to enjoy this dog. Fortunately, the burger here was quite a bit better than the hot dog. The burger came on a nice pretzel roll. The roll itself was soft and stayed together without a problem. This was very important because the beef patties themselves were very greasy and sloppy and a lesser bun would have dissolved in the process. The beef itself tasted a little bland but had a good flavor, the other ingredients combined well and overall I was pretty impressed with the burger I ordered. That Burger Joint is yet another upscale casual dining burger eatery to pop up lately, I've reviewed so many of these places in the past year, but I'd say for burger quality this is among the best without having waiter/waitress service. The hot dog here is lousy and no one will ever refer to it as "That Hot Dog Joint". Overall, I'd say it's a decent place to go for a greasy burger, I'll give it three stars and rate it as an average eatery. read more
