My husband and I came here after dinner. Always like to support a local business. As usual there was a line but it moves very fast. We got cookies and cream and cookie dough ice cream. Pretty standard ice cream. It was pretty chilly out and there were a lot of river bugs flying around outside so we were hoping to sit inside but it was busy and there's not much inside seating. My absolute favorite ice cream shop in my hometown has to be Kimmer's. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by the sweet scent of freshly baked waffle cones and a bright ambiance that makes you feel like a kid in a candy shop. The staff is always so patient, taking the time to help you decide on the perfect flavor and are more than happy to offer samples of all their unique ice cream flavors. My go-to choice is the Parent Trap ice cream; a heavenly blend of cookies and cream with swirls of peanut butter. It's absolutely delicious and is the only place (that I know of) I can get it exactly as is, without any need for customization. I also always get it in a fresh waffle cone to complete the full experience. It is the best treat in the summer, but my friends and I like to go all year round. read more

4 stars. Summer time and ice cream always a treat. The ice cream at Kimmer's is rich and creamy and you can sample any of the flavors before you decide. Located downtown St Charles across from Moto Imoto. They have ice cream cakes which I haven't tried but next time. At this location I had the red, white, and blue which was good but I would have liked more textures to it like actual bigger chunks of cheesecake. My friend have lemon sorbet which was refreshing. While the service was great and the place was spotless, we thought for $15 we didn't get very much ice cream. My wife always gets chocolate peanut butter, but this had very little peanut butter, probably 95% chocolate. We might think twice before going to Kimmers again. read more

Stopped in for ice cream after dinner and got the gelato. My husband got two almond ice cream scoops in a cone. Everything was pretty good but there were not many options to pick from or places to sit. I visited this ice cream shop as I was in downtown St. Charles and wanted to try something new. The shop is located near the center of downtown except it is on the edge so seating is limited. I did notice right away that the options were a bit more limited compared to the other ice cream shop in the area and the pricing was decent. I ordered the Parent Trap and got one scoop. This was a pretty good flavor but I wasn't too amazed. The location and inside seating of the restaurant is nice but you definitely should go when seating options are open and avoid going late night because of the bugs outside. Overall, this was a decent ice cream shop, but I would definitely recommend checking out the other dessert places in the area first. read more

Cute little shop on St Charles. They had a great selection of ice cream, they didn't have the chocolate hazelnut as I had hoped, but everything there was great. I had the coconut ice cream in a cup and the portions are massive, even for a small. It's delicious and I was pleased! I knock this to 4 stars because the service wasn't as great as I expected. If I'm being honest, this is some of the best ice cream I've ever had. We came to this location when it first opened, there was only one store, and Kimmer herself was behind the counter! We've been coming ever since - whenever we have family or friends visiting in town, we always take them there. The location in St. Charles has turned into a really nice place to grab a bite of ice cream and hang out after dinner - there's a small parking lot but I think there is a lot of street parking/lots in nearby walking distance. Due to covid, it seems that they've moved the entrance to the side door and exit through the front door - pretty smart and keeps the flow moving so it doesn't get too crowded in there! A must is getting a pink sprinkle sugar cone or one of the waffle cones - you can smell them when you walk in. There's so many good flavors there, but my absolute favorite is The Parent Trap - peanut butter with Oreo (based on the the flavors in the movie). I went back home after two years and of course we had to make a stop at Kimmers, and they still had my favorite flavor! It reminded me just a small bit of the green apple jolly rancher taste which gave way to a mint aftertaste which faded into peanut butter. SWEET LORD! So I rolled in another time because I had to see what else they had in store (literally, and figuratively) The second time I had the mint that had some of the aspen mint chocolates we all know but it was super satisfying and refreshing. My boyfriend and I shop at Moveable Feast in Geneva every single week and on occasion, we pick up a pint of the limited edition Fairy Tale ice cream by Kimmers and we fell in love as we are crazy about the fairly tale cookies. I wanted to stop by the actual shop and the mistake that I made was when I stopped by my sweet tooth had been ignored for 5 days, so it reared it's ugly head and I could not help myself. Instead of being disciplined and only getting 1 pint of ice cream, I got 3!! The flavors we chose was the peaches and cream, Kevin's golden oreo, and the sweet 6-3. They were all so good, but Kevin's golden oreo was my favorite of the bunch. It was very refreshing to have a different kind of oreo ice cream. I tasted a few options during my last visit...cinnamon pecan (with HUGE pecan pieces!), mint chocolate chip, apple cider sorbet...one was better than the next. There is not one negative thing that I can think to say about Kimmer's. They make fresh ice cream on a regular basis. No time for icy crud to build up because the turnover is great!
