I've been coming here for nearly 40 years. It was a Baskin Robbins when I was a kid, but I believe it's the same owners and very similar to 1980's/90's Baskin Robbins. There are a bunch of flavors to choose from and even some that are vegan. We really liked that there were warnings on the labels about various allergies. I also love the variety of cones and bowls to choose from. They do continue to make ice cream cakes as well. When I visited this week the staff was super, super nice! I can't imagine how busy this place gets on a hot summer night! Tonight (around 70°) the line was about 6-8 people out the door. Although the line was long it kept moving so the wait wasn't too bad. The ice cream was very smooth and tasty. I had apple crisp ice cream which was quite tasty & was just like the real thing. My partner had a banana split and he said it was one of the best he's had. This is a cute place right by the river. It's along a main road so if you sat outside it may be hard to carry on a conversation, but I did not do this so I'm not sure. One suggestion I would have is to have a list of "todays flavors" available for customers to see as they wait in line. You don't really see all of them until you order (or later) - unless you step out of line to look. read more

I had a regular size cookies and cream malt while my husband had a regular size double scoop of chocolate peanut butter in a waffle cone. My regular size malt was perfectly blended, delicious, and BIG. However, the crowds may be a bit misleading. We popped over with friends on a nice afternoon, one of the last "decent" days of the season, and all (adults and kids alike) grabbed some ice cream. There was an assortment of flavors chosen and even one large lemonade (mine). Everyone seemed to enjoy their treats throughly and left no bite uneaten. I looked forward to my lemonade but... my daughter spilled the entire cup prior to me taking the first sip. Oh well, it happens. In sampling other's choices I ultimately feel like Batavia Creamery is tasty ice cream but nothing that sets it above and beyond the rest. The taste is good, the prices are decent, and the staff is quick and friendly. There is nothing not to like but there also isn't anything that has me raving. It's great that this ice cream place is practically on the fox river trail so I can stop by during my bike ride. Besides ice cream, they have smoothies and iced coffee. There's a bike rack nearby to park your bike. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. It's located in a strip mall near other food options offering hot dogs, tacos and pastas. They have a few tables inside and outside for guests. THE GOODS: FIRST! They get 5 stars off the bat because they have peanut butter SAUCE - most only have peanut butter (blah). As for the ice cream: it's creamy and delicious, as you would expect. Large selection of flavors - some I've never heard of. I need excuses to make the 35-minute drive to Batavia to try more of these flavors - ideas? My tiny bowl of chocolate peanut butter ice cream, with Reese's cups and peanut butter sauce on top, hit the spot. The ice cream contained very thick ribbons/chunks of peanut butter - another 5 stars right there. Since I got the next size up from the mini (a mini is "golf ball sized"), it was hard to add any toppings without it falling off, which means you don't get much topping. Next time I will ask them to put my scoop inside a large bowl so they could dump a ton of Reese's cups and sauce on top! YELP COUPON: If you check in on Yelp when you get there, you get 15% off your entire order. My little bowl with 2 toppings was $4.00 after the discount. Not much different than Coldstone pricing. So after yeaaarrrsss of knowing Batavia Creamery was around, I finally stopped in on a casual weeknight evening shortly before closing time. It was my very first time in the shop. There were a couple groups of younger girls getting ice cream and I was hoping to hear a bit about the shop, the flavors, and the options by the girls working behind the counter, but I was only quickly asked what I want, served just that, and asked for payment. That said, the ice cream was great! And the portion was a great size! I think I got 2 small scoops and it was just over $4. I forget the flavors now, but something like carrot cake and maple something. They had a ton of creative flavors, which is what I love in a good ice cream shop! Blue moon or in this case it was Moon Rocks, so blue moon goodness with colorful cookie dough. As a child, we would drive up to Wisconsin from Chicago and stop at creameries on the side of the road for cheese and ice cream....there was this flavor that was blue and I described as fruit loops but maybe its more rice crispy treats? The ice cream is fantastic, rich flavors and a great mouthfeel. If you can't have homemade, go here! I went with the little monsters and we tried: Strawberry Vanilla Oreo Mint chocolate chip Superman Salty caramel pretzel The mint chocolate chip was a standout for me. During the summer I like to use mint from my garden in my ice cream, so artificial mint flavor (think gum) in ice cream is really off putting. The mint chocolate chip tastes like fresh herb-y mint. They absolutely nailed it. I don't know what purists would tell you, but Superman and the salty caramel pretzel ice cream together was awesome. Superman was my favorite flavor at the local ice cream place growing up, so I had to get it, but paired it with an adult-y flavor. Now I'm hooked on that combo. It's a gorgeous day so we had our ice cream outside, but it was so good we ended up going back so I could get some to-go for the man. (Peanut butter caramel brownie!) Having visited Batavia Creamery several times over this steamy summer I am ready to up them to 5 stars! Consistently friendly and helpful service and some of the best ice cream the Hubs and I have ever had, anywhere. And I'm an ice cream fiend so I've had a lot of ice cream over the years. They have a huge selection and everything we've tried has been great. Nice and creamy, fresh tasting and never any issues with ice crystals. They even have several kinds of vegan ice cream as well (on my most recent visit they had 6 - 8 vegan types to choose from). As I mentioned before the "junior" scoop size is what I would consider a normal-sized scoop. Their prices are also great, especially in comparison to the fancy/boutique ice cream parlors we've visited before and their ice cream is every bit as creamy-delicious-wonderful. read more
