Dr Parker is a brilliant ophthalmologist. He deserves 10 stars! He saved my eye after another doctor butchered it during cataract surgery. He saw me on the Sunday after my surgery because I lost my vision in that eye. He is still treating it for uveitis 3 years later! If I call with a problem they tell me to come to the office now! He's a very skilled surgeon and diagnostician. So sad he will be retiring next year. read more

Not good. I requested my contact prescription on a Tuesday. They couldn't guarantee I would have it that day. I was picking it up. I advised them it was essential that I have it, plus they were closed on Wednesday. I picked up the prescription from Thames on Tuesday afternoon. Great, I thought. I looked at it, no signature and the prescription was in the "notes" section. Not even in the area where it should be written. I questioned why NO signature? The optometrist even said, "That should be fine with no signature". I went to my appointment elsewhere to purchase (at a much lower cost than Thames) my contacts. I was told that since NO signature, they could not fill my contact prescription!! I then went in on Thursday.. spoke with the receptionist. She said there was no way she could help, as my doctor was out of the office. Well, what does that have to do we me getting my prescription? Have the other physician sign off on it! We went round and round. Finally, she said she would have Dr Grills sign it. For me to give her my email address, she would email it to me from her home. Then, mail it to me. She said she would definitely do this for me. Friday morning .... nothing. No email. Called Thames Eye Group again. She said she emailed it to me. I never received it. She said she knows she emailed it to me. I told her that was unfortunate, but I needed my prescription today. Not yesterday or next week, today. She said that it couldn't be done. Dr Grills was leaving. I told her it takes 20 seconds!! It's MY prescription! I'm not looking for an exam!! This was RIDICULOUS!!! She swore the email went through to me and maybe i didn't see it, it what she was insinuating? I told her I had a lot of other things to do than to be calling and stopping in to my eye dr!! What in God's name?! We will see what happens this afternoon at 1:00 PM when she told me it would be ready for me to pick up. So... after all this, which could have been resolved the first go around on Tuesday, has led me to write up this review and they've lost not only me as a patient but two others that go there. Absurdity at it's finest! PS - Where I go to get my contacts (Costco), the optometrist there told me they get this ALL the time from Thames. That Thames doesn't understand why the don't sign the prescriptions... perhaps they don't wan their business going to places like Costco? Who knows... all I can think of. read more

Just simply terrible. The staff at Thames Eye Group are incompetent and rude. More than 5 times they have ordered contacts and didn't bother to bill our insurance, simply handing me or my wife a bill when we arrive to pick them up. The latest time, the useless admin staff told me "we don't deal with insurance, it's the patients responsibility". The optometrists and their assistants are not any better. They are rude and rush through exams. They require patients to wear masks which fog up the equipment providing an inaccurate prescription. The majority of the patients I have seen there are elderly. I feel very badly for them if their experience has been anything like mine. I wish there was a negative star rating. STAY AWAY read more

I was seen by Dr. Liebsher for the first time, I really didnt know it was my doctor because she didnt introduce herself. Some facilities have an assistant perform the cursory duties before the doctor comes in the room, so I was not sure who this really was until the exam got underway. This Dr. provided zero small talk throughout the exam, simply giving orders. I didnt even receive a full exam, it was just pressures, glaucoma and read these lines. Once the exam was done, there was no 'thank you' no "have a nice day' or anything. I will not be back. read more

I have been using Thames Eye Group for quite a few years and my past experiences have been OK... not particularly good or bad so I guess average. The actual doctors seem quite good but the office staff and the optical shop I often found to be unhelpful. I had always overlooked that since as I said I liked the doctors. Just recently however I have had a particularly bad experience that has prompted me to go elsewhere in future. I had decided to go with contact lenses rather than eye glasses so I scheduled an appointment to update my prescription. During my appointment I was told that I would still need a pair of glasses (as a backup for driving) as apparently that is a legal requirement. I did not want to purchase glasses through their own optical shop since that would likely set me back $300 (based on past experience) and given that they would seldom if ever be used I did not want to spend that much so was planning on buying a cheaper pair online. In order to purchase eye glasses online I need my prescription as well as my pupillary distance measurement which technically is not part of the prescription. Thames Eye Group has refused to give me my pupillary distance measurement stating that it is due to their policy. This effectively means that I cannot use my prescription to purchase eye glasses online. They claim that this is because in the past customers have tried to hold them responsible for bad eye glasses that they have purchased online. I find this explanation to be a bit far fetched... much more likely in my opinion that this is a good way to increase sales in their own over priced optical shop. The lady I spoke to on the phone would not listen to my point of view and she kept interrupting me and in the end she hung up on me. Needless to say that I will be going elsewhere for eye care in future. read more

DO NOT GO TO THAMES EYE GROUP! I had an appointment last week at the Mystic office. The exam was so rushed, that I still had blurred vision even when the exam was supposedly over with. I then had to put in an order for contact lenses afterword, my insurance covers $130 worth of contacts every year. The next week I was called and told my contacts were ready for pick up. I tried calling multiple times that same day to find out what their hours where, since I couldn't find the office hours on their website... (how do you not have office ours on your website?) I kept getting the answering service. I finally decided to just show up after work one day to pick them up. I speak with the receptionist, named Nancy, and was told that I owe $160. I told her that my insurance is supposed to cover $130 worth, which she then went on to say no it looks like they didn't pay anything. I told her I wasn't paying for them when my insurance covers a big portion of the cost. She then got rude with me, and told me "well I'll have to talk with the manager about it then". I left, because she apparently didn't mean talk with the manager right now, and then proceeded to call the office the next day since Nancy didn't do a thing. I had to leave a message on their "contact lenses line" which I thought was hokey. I did get a phone call the following day from Michelle. She told me that my insurance won't cover contacts until 2020. I told her that was wrong, I get an allowance for contacts every year. She told me I had to call my insurance, so I did. I'm on the phone with my insurance company and they tell me that Thames did not bill the insurance company for an exam, but only for the contacts. We figured out that they billed the exam under contact lenses, so my insurance company thought they were paying for contact lenses. When Thames went back in to charge for the lenses it was denied. My insurance company called Thames Eye Group while I waited on hold and spoke to the billing manager there named Robin. Apparently Robin gave my insurance company a hard time when they tried to tell her that the exam was billed incorrectly, AND THEN TRIED TO HELP HER FIX IT, she flat out refused saying she did it right and that they were wrong. Now I'm in limbo. I've been calling to try and talk with Robin and AGAIN I'm only getting the answering service. I've got a funny suspicion that I've just gotten screwed out of $130 worth of contacts this year. All thanks to this incompetent office. I have been going to ophthalmologists since 1993. Unfortunately I've had to change doctors here an there because of insurance coverage, but I have NEVER dealt with such rude and negligent people in my life! Very rude and unprofessional. Also, billed me almost $300 for a standard eye exam which was clearly covered with my insurance. My insurance was also billed for it (This doctor office is in the business of double-billing). My insurance has to call them and tell them they can't charge me for it because they are already paying for it and when I called the doctor's office to tell them what happened they were incredibly rude and the woman had a huge attitude and didn't want to address the problem at all. I've gone here for past few years out of convenience/laziness bc it's close to home. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment. The office staff has a giant chip on their shoulders; they are rude, abrupt, impatient and humorless. Dr lucci is the same and was 40 min late last appt without apology or explanation. Her exams are mediocre and she tried to dissuade me from taking my contact script. Called today bc I have had serious visual disturbances (flashes, spots and more) and thought they could help. The ophthalmologists RN told me (you have to prove your case with him first to get an appt with these very important Drs) didn't sound optical, they didn't really have any apprs sorry. Really? The most horrible experience I have ever had. Dr. Parker is a joke wrote four wrong scripts, was very rude and didn't want to give you the time of day. The optical run by Allan in Mystic tried to make scripts for lens from Parker but always came out wrong suppose not their fault. The lens they had made right or wrong always came in a week late so there they suck. Don't eve go to these people, by in large the 80 percent of the staff made you feel they were doing you a huge favor and were generally rude on all visits. read more

worst i have dealt with ever in any medical field...the optometrist has zero personality and i do mean zero...fastest exam of all time...seemed to be in a hurry to get me out clerical staff(all of them) have huge attitudes...condescending tones & have no customer service skills at all after all this supposedly got the same prescription from my old doctor for my new contact lenses yet when i put the lenses in i know they are the wrong prescription & i dont see as well as the lenses i use from my old dr which are now 2 yrs old expensive STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS AWFUL ESTABLISHMENT!!! read more

Dr. Grills (Lucci) has always treated my family with care and professionalism. She has a great manner with the kids and a calm demeanor which is extremely important due to my son have a congenital eye condition. We've never waited long and the staff has always been pleasant to work with. I've had my insurance change a few times due to corporate preferences but the office staff have always tried to make the transition as seamless as possible. The only issue we've had concerns the optical shop. Seems that whenever we order prescription lenses, something gets mixed up. Other than that, great experience and we continue to have them care for our eye needs. read more

Like Dana S. i also found them rude and unprofessional. I went in w/o an appointment to pick up contact lenses and to see if someone could look at my eye, which was red, painful, and felt like there was something foreign in it. I was willing to wait to be seen. 30 mins later i went back to teh counter and they thought i had left. Instead of calling my name, they looked around the corner and didnt see me, they told me, and assumed I'd left. I was at the optomotrist desk ordering very expensive glasses. I asked for the contacts that were on hold and was told they had been sent back. I spoke w someone TWO DAYS ago who said they would hold them until my upcoming annual appointment. but it turned out i needed a new lens because i was sure my eye was infected and didnt want to put the same lens in that eye the next day. There seems to be a lack of communciation between teh front desk people because one woman sent them back and antoher one told me they would be there for me. And the one who sent them back didnt seem to believe that i had really spoken to someone about them being on hold. 'We dont do that so i dont know why someone would tell you that.' Well someone told me that and probably isn't being forthright in the office. Well, i asked if could perhaps by a sample lens to get me through to my next appointment but htey have a policy where if a year goes by they will not give you a lens 'for your eye health'... if the scrip is different i would be wearing the wrong scrip (mine hasnt changed in years). So, i said ok but look at my eye, its eye health is in worse shape right now and that should supercede your policy. They would not budge. They didnt even look at my eye in teh office. they came out to teh waiting room and in front of everyone told me they could not help me. I said, so becuase of your policy you will not give me a lens, even looking at my eye and seeing that it is in poor shape? That's correct, i was told. They enver even asked if i wanted the doctor to look at the eye. So i canceled my upcoming appointment, i canceled my glasses, told them i expect to NOT see a charge on my insurance for the lgasses, which i canceled. and told them i would not be back. I went to Pequot Health Center for my eye, and found out i had a scratched cornea because my lens was ripped and when i rubbed my eye w it in there, the cornea scratched. So thank you very much for your lack of attention to a customer who needed your professional help with a medical issue and needed a new lense. They may have their policy but they will never have me again as a customer. read more
