Thaily's has made it onto several food lists, including the New York Time's top 50 eats across the country back in 2022. The AZ Republic and Phoenix Times have both raved about this place, so this was on my list of places to try out. It's in a part of town where it can feel a little scary as there are drunkards hanging around the liquor store right across the street catcalling at women, but if you mean business when it comes to food, just tell them to bugger off. The place is fairly nondescript and has bars on their door and a tattered sign hanging from the outside, but do not judge a book by its cover. The food was absolutely the best. The owner, I guess is Lee, is a tall Iraqi man and was polite and helpful with helping me to choose dishes. I ordered the Cambodian papaya salad and the lemongrass chicken. Both were fantastic. The papaya salad was super flavorful. It was a tad bit salty, but I appreciated that in the summer, and I had already been sweating quite a lot. Papaya salad comes with a side of rice. Rice was nice and fragrant and just a tad bit sticky. The lemongrass chicken was a smaller portion as you get only one piece of meat, but it was very very tasty and you can definitely taste the lemongrass in every bite and the chicken was moist and cooked to perfection. Rice again was good, and there is also a side of pickled radish/carrots. There is an area to eat and I did eat some of my food in here and it's more like a fast casual spot. Place was clean and homey. Overall, I would say the food is excellent, and I will definitely be back again to try all the different dishes! read more

Cambodian Arabic food!? What? So it turns out it's run by a couple and one is Cambodian and one Arabic. And this marriage brings us this delicious marriage of flavors at Thaily's! They run the place together and were so nice - and great chefs! The parking lot is small as is the restaurant, so car pool if possible! When you arrive, you'll see menus along the counter with what isn't available marked off - and they explain this. We had the shrimp and pork belly salad, beef lemongrass skewers, and a chicken naan wrap. The salad was very fresh and some of the vermicelli was purple, which was fun. The lemongrass beef skewers were so good! And they come with orange and white rice and some pickled veggies. The orange rice has ghee and garlic and another seasoning and is so good! The chicken naan sandwich is also really good. The naan is delicious, though I'd call it more an Arabic flatbread. We loved everything so much, we got more to take home! We got more of the lemongrass beef, and also beef laab salad. This was really good! Though it's a warm salad here which was different than I've had before. It was still good cold later that night after being in the fridge! Definitely will be back! read more

Not all things available on any given day. They mix it up. Some items are special occasions. We had the lemongrass beef spring rolls, chicken curry, chicken laab, and lemongrass beef laab. Most of their spice scale is from 3-5. There are very few items that are one or two. It was good, but the heat builds. Unique flavors, very different from the ordinary. The couple were very friendly. They make everything fresh, including their Thai tea. I would like to try some other options. Looking forward to trying them. read more

I've driven my this place so many times and didn't realize it was here. Their parking is a bit tight, so be forewarned if you're a bad parker, you might want to have someone drive in with you. Ha! It looks a little sketch on the outside and where they are located, but inside was very comfortable. Got the curry dish, their most popular, and it was decent. Good flavors and nicely seasoned dark chicken thigh that was moist. Their spring rolls were okay, and unfortunately, nothing special. The surf and turf were also okay, nothing super special and slightly short on the proteins. Perhaps an extra skewer might be worth the price point. There wasn't too much service provided, but the gentleman was really nice and prompt to bring us a pitcher of water and some drinking cups. The spam masubi was the best part! Their rice had extra spices and grains of some sort, but it certainly added to the texture. Would definitely come back for the spam masibi! read more

If u're looking for deliciously exotic dishes with loads of flavor, u found it here!!! I can't express the intense joy spreading all over me when I bit into the meat prepared in lemongrass! I just wished the plate had 1000x more meat on it than what was in front of me, but as I reeled myself back to reality, I was just over the moon that I got the chance to try this amazing dish! Everything was delicious here! The spam musubi was phenomenal, and the curry dish was also highly enjoyable! Service was excellent and u feel like u're family here, as the space is very tiny and intimate. If u're not from around the area, don't be freaked out when u get close to the restaurant. The restaurant is not located in what u would call, a "nice" or "friendly" neighborhood at first glance. And sure, u COULD get shot :-P but that didn't stop me! I can't think of a more dynamic duo than Thai and Lee, owners of Thaily's. They are like the Shaq and Kobe of the culinary world, each bringing their unique and creative skill set into the kitchen. Thai is Cambodian. Lee is Iraqi. Creativity bounces off the walls in their small but quaint restaurant consisting of about 5 small tables. The menu, posted on the counter incorporates fused dishes incorporating idiosynchracies of both cuisines. Thai and Lee told us their story and how their imperfect home cooking became measured and mastered at their restaurant. It's no surprise they were recognized as a Top New Restaurant by the New York Times. Their recent recognition gathered my attention, and I have to say, it was worth the 45 minute drive. I ordered the spicy tofu pasta. 4/5 on the spice scale but I was itching for more after each bite, despite my nose running like a waterfall because it was so spicy. Everyone at our table of 4 genuinely loved their dish. The location appears under the radar, but I think it will be scorching hot and trendy real soon read more

#ThankYouThursday update: Thaily's is absolutely my favorite neighborhood spot and at this point I drop by almost weekly. I've sampled the entire menu but I always go back to my regular Spicy Double Chicken Platter. Lee and Thai know me by my voice at this point when I call in my order. My wife found this place and so glad to have gone here! I actually drive by this place on the way to work and never noticed it - it can be easy to miss. Anyway, the food is great and the selections are quite unique as they have Cambodian cuisine and Middle Eastern cuisine like Gyros. I got the spicy double chicken; the seasoning on the chicken was amazing and the curry was really flavorful (although the spice level was a little on the weaker side for me but for most people I would say it is a good amount of spice) Highly recommend if you are wanting something a little different. Do not let the location shy you away from this special mom and pop place! On Sat October 2nd, 2021 we visited this small, casual Arabian/ Cambodian fusion restaurant. With just a few tables, the pleasant, well decorated interior welcomes you. The menu is unique and is consistently updated to what is available that day. My husband enjoyed the spice curry double chicken platter. ($10.50) He said the egg, grilled chicken, rice and cup of curry was very good. My lemongrass beef stick platter was small in portion but tasty. ($8.50) Two beef sticks, a salad that consisted of cucumber, carrots and papaya in a vinaigrette and a rectangular orange rice combo added beautiful color to this entree. This small salad was refreshing and reminded me of the Vietnamese garnish. If you are interested in expanding your palate, why not stop by? I plan to again! read more

Cool, low-key place run by an Iraqi husband and Cambodian wife. They have a separate menu for each cuisine and I do wish they had more of a fusion menu. I went with a friend, and they had a really long wait, like over twenty minutes, to even take our orders, which was a nuisance, but in the meantime, I asked for something to tide us over, so they brought small samples of rice with curry. They were honest about the long wait time though so I can't fault them for it completely, but it was just another couple and us, so I was confused. When they finally took our orders and brought out our food, we were really happy! I got the chicken and pineapple curry with white rice, and my friend got the gyro on garlic naan. The prices here are just right and the food is fresh and healthy. I would definitely recommend for something local, authentic, and healthy! read more

This is an interesting collusion of Khmer food, Asian items, and Middle Eastern fare. Limited menu but I heard there will be more items added at a later time. Therefore, if you you're looking for a fast casual quick bite with a homey feel, you can roll through. Papaya salad is nice and refreshing for a warm day. It's definitely spicy so if you don't like heat in your mouth then you should stray from this dish. I like my vermicelli noodles a little more al dente but might be personal preference. The noodles may have become soft from it soaking in the dressing. Overall had good flavor and nice heaping portion. The lemongrass beef platter was also a nice portion. You get 2 skewers with the garnish of veg and mound of rice. The beef was tender and the lemongrass flavor came through. I would have liked a side of fish sauce or even the papaya salad dressing to pour over the skewers for additional depth of flavor. Worth the $6.50 though. Restaurant shares the same space as Mai Mochi so you can get meats and sweet treats in one feat, ain't that neat? read more

This is the definition of a great hole in the wall. Brought to you by a Cambodian and Iraquí couple. Not to be confused by fusion food as they actually have dishes of each region. I went with one of their most popular dishes: the chicken curry fried rice which is a Cambodian dish. I enjoyed it so much and would love to have it again soon. Very flavorful curry. We were blown away by the food here! So unexpected to find a Cambodian/Middle Eastern/Arabic restaurant in Chandler, AZ, it was such a unique menu. We only had the Cambodian food but the owner cooked every dish to order, she was so friendly & sweet. The Cambodian Spicy Papaya Salad was so fresh, flavorful & authentic, the lemongrass beef stick & shrimp were so tasty & kid friendly. The Nom Ba Jok (red chicken curry noodle soup) was so yummy topped with potatoes, carrots & chunks of tender chicken in a rich coconut curry broth with thin rice vermicelli ...YUM! The owner, Thai, even threw in some extra noodles & some boneless lemongrass chicken, so generous & thoughtful! The best part...they also have spam musubis!!! Phenomenal. SO good. Just go! Everything we ordered was fantastic and the owners were incredibly warm and welcoming, checking on us regularly to make sure our dining experience was top notch. We ordered the Prahok Ktiss, Beef Laab, Spicy Curry Chicken Platter, Spring Rolls, and the house-made Coconut Mochi and every single dish was absolutely phenomenal! Their Beef Laab is now my benchmark for what laab/larb should be, the Prahok Ktiss was unique, bright, and texturally delightful, the Spicy Chicken Curry rich, warming, and comforting, and the coconut mochi was *chefs kiss* beautiful. PS- The chili lime fish sauce that was provided as a condiment to help add some heat (prik nahm phla?) was FIERY and definitely hit the spot- I'd buy gallons to put on everything if they ever start selling it!!! Sandwich had a nice twist of a few thin, crisp pickle spears and maybe pink pickled onions with purple onions also. Super fresh! Meat was tasty. Cucumber sauce yummy. Not a huge sandwich so if you're hungry get some side dishes. Hummus was nice and balanced - don't think of it as Greek hummus whatsoever - theirs here is definitely more dense and richer. Nice EVOO touch and spices on top - I ate the HUGE green olive before considering my photo. Whoops - tasty . Taking the tools home - they look devine!!! Fish sauce on the side. I'll miss peanut sauce but I like both - fish sauce is healthier. And a lighter healthy meal was my intention. Not too much bread was good. Ahhhh I can't say enough about the deliciousness and authenticity of this place. I've been back and everything I've had has been so flavorful and satisfying. This is my second time there. They have a very small parking lot and the area feels kinda ghetto, so I always try to park in the lot if I can. Store is very easy to miss so pay attention! Park and walk up the stairs and it's the first store on your left:) Tonight, I ordered chicken curry noodle soup, the lemongrass beef and spicy shrimp combo, and three desserts lol. That chicken curry soup was BOMB. I'm always comforted by noodle soup and this hit the spot in all the right place--super noms. I was not expecting the shrimp to be spicy, but they were and I don't really like spicy food, but it was also freakin delicious, but my mouth was on fire(I'm a wimp on spice though, but apparently they have a spicy sauce to go with it). I ordered the banana leaf (too full so haven't tried it), some mochi dessert (super noms!), and then this off menu mochi dessert (not my thing). They offered me water and kept checking in on me while it was eating. Super nice and attentive and yummy food. Go try it if you haven't! read more

Amazing place with amazing owners. We stopped by this little gem a couple of times and plan to return. The first time we both got the Spicy Curry Double Chicken plate. The chicken thigh was crispy on the outside and moist in the middle. The curry was full of flavor and had just the right amount of spice. 5 stars! On our second visit we tried the Prahok Ktiss, the Cambodian Papaya Salad and Nom ba jok. The papaya salad was crisp and fresh, and the Prahok Ktiss was small, but flavorful and the nom ba jok was was good, but not as strong as I am accustomed to. Overall, 4ish stars. The couple who run the place is what makes this place special. They make the experience like going to a friends place for dinner. They are patient and prompt, enthusiastic and fun. I've been trying to eat here for 3-4 weeks and every time I called it is 3 hours for either to-go or dine in. Luckily it was 6:45pm on a Tuesday night and I called ahead expecting the same response. Come to my surprise they were busy but not overloaded. So, I gathered up my family quickly and made a fast haul from Scottsdale over there. And my family and I were not disappointed. The food was good as expected. It's run by a very kind a welcoming couple. Feels like you are entering their home. It is quaint and has a couple of dining tables but not expansive. So now I understand why they are so busy. We tried their lemongrass beef (tender and flavorful) complemented the rice. Also tried their prak - or stew, reminds me of a Chinese soup, Anise star soup with heaps of pork and pork belly, great with stew. Also was given a sample of the curry - even though it was spicy - I had to order a take home entree size for next day. Also tried their Logan shaved ice (yummy, tastes like bubblegum to me but it has a unique flavor profile). Also tried their spam musubi- tasted great and my 14 yo loved it. ALL the food was great!!!! You don't see Cambodian/middle eastern food often so I wasn't sure what to try. I got the spicy curry double, which was amazing. I could eat it almost any day.
