Flavor is honestly getting harder to find lately, but this place delivers BIG on flavor and especially on spice. They actually have spice levels from 2 all the way up to 15 (yes, fifteen ). I ordered a level 5 and my mouth was definitely on fire -- in a good way. Next time I might go even hotter because the heat didn't overpower the flavor, it enhanced it. Solid vegan options . My husband tried the Cambodian pho, which was a totally new experience for us since we've only ever had Vietnamese pho., Super comforting, really well balanced. The flavor was excellent. The spice just right. The only issue was that I asked for no egg in the pad see ew for my vegan friend. There was egg. Not sure where wires got crossed but I made it quite clear to the young man who took my order it was for a vegan and shouldn't have any egg to which he replied, " it comes without egg. You have to ask for it." Apparently no one told the people in the kitchen that. So that sucked because it was too far a drive to go back. I may still go back if I'm in the area. And will try other things. I'll just make sure to check the order before I leave if taking it away. I normally don't like the rice paper egg roll. But they were well done and super fresh tasting here. My pad see ew came out perfect and was delicious. The Thai wings looked pale and I wasn't optimistic until I bit into them. Came here to try some Cambodian dishes. We eat spicy but the service staff was pretty intense here about saying that their spice levels are much higher than other places. They communicated their levels as #5 medium, #10 hot and #15 very hot .Didn't sound like they did in between numbers and it seemed like a strange numbering system. The chilli crisp oil on the table was spicy so we started with Cambodian sour soup at medium spice (#5 ) It usually has chicken broth and fish sauce I believe but the owner made it vegetarian for us. The soup was good but it felt less spicy than we wanted. The tartness of the soup was really good though and as we ate more of the bottom of it it had a tad more spice. It was also good with the table chilli crisp oil. It came in a hot pot as we love and they refilled the candle for us. Their spoons were awkward for the shape of the hotpot and it was a little hard to scoop out the soup. Next we decided to try a curry. All their curries didn't have chicken stock. The yellow one also didn't have shrimp paste we were told and we decided to go with that one. We ordered it at #10 out of 15 spice level with tofu and it also came with some veggies. #10 was flavorful but we probably would have been fine with the highest #15 spice level here. When I walked around to see the art in the restaurant I saw a big sign on a monitor saying they don't refund plates that are too spicy. The yellow curry did feel different than a typical Thai yellow curry which was fun and was good. We definitely would go with the highest spice level here if we were to be back here and I think we would have liked it more that way. Good spot for vegan and vegetarian options. Based on this one experience i'd give it 3.5 stars. I'd have to try more and at the higher spice levels to decide between 3 stars or 4 stars. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! My expectations were low as it was empty walking in for early dinner, but now I believe people are missing out. Truly a gem spot! The plain wings appetizer were perfectly lightly crispy. The lok lak is my favorite, the flavors were so flavorful and went very well with rice. The coconut soup has had to be the best I've had, the flavors were just immaculate. Legit red curry with chicken, been my go-to dish for decades. Can't go wrong with this place.

We were excited to find Aspara. They are buried back in a shopping center and I never knew they were there. They are located where the old Thai Gourmet used to be. This restaurant offers both Thai and Cambodian fare which I thought was cool. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. The server appeared fairly new but was attentive and pleasant. For starers, we ordered the mini egg rolls (Lorts). They were similar to Philippine Lumpia and really good. We ate all eight! For our main course, we got shrimp lo mein, chicken curry soup and Mongolian beef. The curry was so spicy hot that we were warned that if we couldn't eat it, they wouldn't refund. I thought the lo mein was really good and loved the bean sprouts that were included in the dish. The Mongolian beef was a little bit of a surprise for me. It was good, but very sweet. It tasted like it was heavily sauced Hoisin. But, a lot of Thai dishes are sweet, so this was an interesting twist. I thought everything was good and enjoyed our visit. I was visiting my friend in PHX and dinner time came around. No one knew what to eat and my partner found this local Cambodian spot and we were all on board. We got there about an hour before closing yet were still made to feel welcome and had no issues ordering and eating in. This seems to be a casual, family run business and even while we were there, we noticed some of the children of the team around and the team overall just seeming happy. Our waiter was a lot of fun and provided good recommendations and was social with us. We ended up going for the beef skewers, thai crispy wings, pineapple fried rice, and phnom phen (dry). Everything was super delicious, which was a pleasant surprise for us in like outskirts of Pheonix. The beef skewers had a wonderful char and aromatic flavors. The thai crispy wings were super crisp yet covered in a light, flavorful sauce. The pineapple fried rice was also a good portion and tasted great. The phnom phen had a good portion of protein and still very tasty noodles. There were so many other dishes I'd like to try but after having these, I feel like I've already found some staples. Anyway, this is definitely a gem of a restaurant and should not be missed. The food was amazing and flavors were well balanced. The prices were also good for the amount of food we got (and we had leftovers for another meal). I'll definitely be making this a regular stop in PHX. read more

This place was alright. I've eaten a lot of Cambodian food, my brother in law is Cambodian lol. We've gone to most places in Long Beach, and cook at home as well. I think they're the only Cambodian restaurant out here? Anywho!! The food is okay. I had the beef stick, the nom bahn chok and kithew. It was all just okay. Service was good and the girl taking our order was sweet! She wasn't fully briefed on Cambodian food I guess but that's ok!! I believe she was new!! We truly enjoyed our meal here! It was our first time and we wanted to try a bunch of dishes. We got the scallion pancakes, beef skewers, and Thai crispy wings to start. All delicious but the wings were our favorite. They're the crispiest/crunchiest wings we've ever had and they had a nice spicy kick. My husband got the Cambodian beef salad and I got the chicken lo mein. So delicious! I also enjoyed a strawberry smoothie. Of course we had to finish the meal with the mango sticky rice. Service - 4: Quick and kind. Server did disappear for a while though. But nonetheless, efficient. Ambiance - 3.5: Dim and clean. Playing Khmer music but it stopped for a while so everyone in the establishment was whispering because it was awkward to talk louder. Decor had many traditional items and was set for large and small parties. Food - 4: Amok was underseasoned and needed salt. I added spice to bump up the flavor profile. I'm used to more seasoning, more makrut lime leaves with a hint of sweetness from peppers. But it was packed with like 3 full filets of fish so its a healthy portion despite it's appearance. Nice aromatics from the banana leaf too. As for the Sach Ko, it's nicely browned with yummy charred bits. However it's too sweet for me. I'm used to more seasoning with a stronger savory flavor. The chhrouk was a nice accompaniment although I could have used some more since I wasnt even half way through my skewers before I was out of vegetables. Overall the whole meal was traditional and very nice to see. This is a nice entry for people looking to ease their way in to southeast Asian cuisine. Totally worth the drive for SE Asian foodies. On the way back from Rocky point tried Apsara, a Cambodian/Thai place that's always been too far away but we were driving by. Five star from me for food and service. Our waitress was well informed and had clearly learned to love Cambodian specialties. We tried the Angel wings, Amok fish (coconut custardy catfish and a banana leaf )and Cambodian lemon grass soup w beef rib. Nuts. I finally tried the Asian restaurant that took over my favorite Thai restaurant. I'm sad my Thai place is gone but I'm giving this place a try. I met the new owner and spoke with her and she's really nice. We talked for a little bit as I was waiting on my order. The restaurant serves Cambodian, Thai & Chinese food. They remodeled and it's really bright and open looking, which I think is much better than the prior look. The owner is Cambodian and it's family owned and operated. I told her I am Thai and sad that they replaced my favorite Thai place but willing to give them a try. When she found out I was Thai and that I ordered pad kee mao (drunken noodles) a Thai dish she said to let her know what I think and what they can do to make it better if I didn't think it was right. They're open to feedback. The beef sticks are Cambodian and she said I'd really like it. She was right. I did ask if they added sugar in their Thai dishes, she said no but they could add or take out whatever you request. She told me to leave a review. I said ok but if I don't like it, I'm going to say so. I'm not mean but I'm honest and if I really like the food I'd bring my mom and aunt to try it when they visit. I may bring them anyway to try the Cambodian food. They are more critical than I am when it comes to Thai food. I ordered the Apsara beef sticks which is Cambodian lemongrass grilled beef sticks and they were really delicious. Cooked to perfection and so flavorful. The papaya "pickle" that came on the side was, eh. It's not bad it just didn't do anything for me. I would prefer a small side of rice or sticky rice but that's me. I also ordered Thai drunken noodles with chicken. I could tell right when I opened the container and saw it that it wasn't going to be right. And it wasn't. The flavor is not there and more Thai basil is needed, sauce for noodles isn't right, wrong chilies too. The noodles were correct and cooked right but it needs some work. You do get a lot of chicken though but coming from a Thai cook that makes drunken noodles, theirs is so off. I will give them another try because I'd like to try some of the Cambodian dishes. When looking at the menu it looks and sounds so good. Maybe because they are Cambodian that might be where their cooking strength is because their beef sticks were fire! Although, I'll try another Thai dish just to see and maybe Chinese too for funsies. I say they are worth a try. read more

We came here on a grey afternoon, a few diners at tables but mostly empty on a late weekday lunch time. The service was knowledgeable and gave us time and space to peruse the menu. She came to our table to answer our many questions. And we finally ordered. The spring rolls were freshly made and some of the best I've ever eaten. Fresh crispy herbs, cool noodles and delicious shrimp, accompanied by peanut sauce I could dive into, it was that good. I ordered a Cambodian pin noodles and shrimp and my friend had Tom kha soup .. the dishes came at separate times but they were so good it didn't really matter. I tasted the soup and the chicken was so thin and tender, the broth was creamy coconutty chock full of mushrooms lemongrass and flavor. My pin noodles were actually quite unusual but tasty . They are slick little chunks of rice noodles that challenge a chopstick but they're tasty. I had my dish with shrimp but I bet the tofu's pretty good too. We finished it off with mango sticky rice...and that was the best ever as well. The decor is a wee bit sparse but I'd drive from East valley to the west valley for lunch like this any day!!!
