For many years there was a restaurant called Thai Taste here which I was fond of. Thai Tree replaced them a couple years ago, though Thai Taste still has a couple locations in South Portland. Since then I've been to Thai Tree several times and have enjoyed my food every time. The menu is smaller, though not too small. There's a range of options here from your basic Thai food to some lesser known (to me) dishes. I have tried so many things that it would really be hard to choose favorites! The restaurant has a cute, modern ambiance mixing both traditional influences and kitschy pop music icons in an oddball, but fun and inobtrusive way. The vibe in Thai tree is so cute! Our food was delicious. The pho broth was so rich, hardly even needed any hoisin or sriracha (and usually I put a lot). The green curry was so flavorful and a good serving, too! They were super friendly too- brought us out a free desert :) read more

Had a quick weekday lunch here and it was delicious! I tried the evil tofu mostly because the name made me laugh, but it was a delicious garlicky sauce with veggies. Our server explained it's named after the way they cook it with fire in the wok. He had good recommendations and our food came out quickly! My one complaint was the portion size seemed a little small for the price ($17) especially during lunch. Would definitely come back here to try more! read more

We managed to get in right before the dinner rush, which is great since we had a show at Portland center stage after the meal. Because the meals are plenty of food for just about anybody, and we didn't wanna carry leftovers around , we ordered cocktails but skipped the appetizers and ordered our entrees: Pad Kee mao (noodles with chicken vegetables in brown garlic sauce) and a ginger stirfry (peppers, mushrooms, onions, and a very good size serving of duck - can have had it instead of the duck). My lemon grass Jen tonic was fantastic, and the lemon grass - cucumber really came through nicely. My wife ordered the ginger cocktail, I think it had vodka, but it really wasn't very good and I had 2 mile of a taste with not much of a ginger aspect at all. My stirfry deck was fantastic, lots of vegetables duck cooked perfectly, and he was just right. My wife's dish was also excellent and the garlic sauce was a good complement for the chicken and veggies. We finished with a perfectly made, rich and hot pumpkin (rice) custard. I wish their menu has pictures. The staffs are friendly and helpful. I got the Panaang curry, it was balance flavor and enjoyable. The generously offered more slices of scallion pancake for my toddler, and that's very helpful for the picky little eater. read more

Fresh.. hot..and delicious!! Thai coffee was given by accident but definitely hit the spot after a long day. The Ginger Stir Fry might be my new favorite Thai dish and this place did it right. I do believe that I came in during lunch time so the portion was a little small but I still walked out full and happy. Visiting the area and Yelped for good Thai food. Thai Tree was a little further than we wanted to travel but so glad we did. Parking is a challenge but also worth it. We'd enjoyed a heavy and late lunch so we ordered cautiously. We share the Fresh Rolls with Shrimp and pad Thai with chicken. Our favorite pan-Asian restaurant at home serves award-winning Nime Chow; these were better. They were delicious and packed with fresh flavor. The pad Thai was the best we've had. Cute and cozy restaurant with great service! I liked Thai Tree so much I ended up going for lunch two days in a row when I was in Portland for a conference. I like how the lunches come with a side salad and scallion pancake. The food is actually adequately spicy if that's how you like it. On a scale from 1-5 with 5 being the spiciest, I ordered a 4 both times and found the dishes spicy while still being flavorful. During my first visit I ordered chicken panang. It was flavorful with a generous amount of chicken and vegetables. The heart-shaped rice was a nice touch. I wish there was more of the curry sauce but overall it was great. The second time I visited I ordered Pad Thai with scallops. This was also delicious and the scallops were tender. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in Portland and want good Thai food! read more

The food at Thai Tree is excellent and the staff aren't too shabby either. Came in a Friday night date night and was looking for someplace cozy in the Portland area. Thai Tree was able to seat us in the corner alcove bar, which while not ideal originally, gave us a quiet respite from the hustle of the main restaurant. I love love love all the musical nostalgia throughout the restaurant. Service was better than okay with two hiccups: 1) We did have to wait for some basic things because they ran out of some cutlery but they were washed and brought to us -- we made due with what we had. 2) because of where we were sitting, it did feel like we didn't get some of the same attention customers in the main dining area got. The food! Papaya salad was bright, fresh and tasty. Fresh shrimp which weren't "messed with" brought a next level to the fresh feeling. Definitely a top Papaya Salad. The Tom Yum Shrimp Skewers were good but not stand out. Larb Flight: This was one of the stand out dishes. Chicken, Beef and Pork larb in small cups was a date night food-adventure. Khao Soi: Wife and I are at ends here. She declared this Khao Soi to be her favorite of all time. I think it was very good although I didn't appreciate the bone-in chicken as part of the soup and wanted it to be a little bit more punchy. Regardless, I'd order this again. All-in-all, Thai Tree provided us with a fantastic date night in Portland and we can't wait to come back. read more

My wife and i went there in early September for dinner. The location was convenient for us; near our hotel downtown. We like Thai cuisine and found Thai Tree's offerings to be very good -- we feasted on appetizers that night, their entrees look good. We'd would recommend it with no hesitation. We've been twice to Thai Tree, this time to try more entrees and dinner for the first time. Pad Thai was ok and a tad sweet. My wife had a stir fry with veggies that were not completely cooked with rice and peanut sauce that was a bit bland and she was definitely disappointed. Service was a little slow and restaurant was cold and a bit loud for us. Although my Thai orders are always limited to a) Pad See Ew and b) Thai Iced Tea-- no joke, I'm a major creature of habit, I loooved: 1) Thai Tree's affordable prices 2) Their long hours/takeout/delivery option through Yelp 3) The PORTIONS! No shade to other Thai places in the area, but when I'm ordering noodles, I want 80 million of them and I want them now. Thai Tree is perfect for that. DIne in? Look somewhere else. We chose this place because of the great Yelp reviews and we were glad we did. It's a busy place so we just grabbed take out. Really cozy and welcoming spot. I placed the order online and it was ready within 30 minutes on a Saturday night. My husband and I split the pad thai with tofu and spring rolls. I've had much better spring rolls, I didn't especially like these. However, the pad thai was very good and the tofu was amazing. Definitely recommend this spot. read more

Ordered a Thai ice coffee and never got with the rest of my order. I guess you need to order spoons and forks. Can't eat my soup if I don't have spoon. I spent a lot of money they can't throw in a spoon. I called and who ever answered was rude and said I gave the Uber delivery man the ice coffee. She said I can't prove it. Visited what I anticipate to be a an upcoming hot spot on Congress, previously known as Pom's Thai. We decided to get a bunch of apps to share. We tried the shrimp volcano, which was perfectly breaded, the fresh spring rolls with shrimp, with a perfect texture to the rice paper wrap, laab gai, chive dumplings, and scallion pancakes. There wasn't anything that we didn't enjoy and I have to say their fresh spring rolls were "perfection". The service was SO friendly and with it being their very first night, it went pretty smoothly, with only a minor wait after our waters were poured. We ended the meal with a pumpkin coconut pudding. It was delicious! I used to like Pom's and this place is a nod to the previous menu, with some clear upgrades. The vibe of the restaurant is inviting and fun. We will be back! read more

I eat here about once a month. Here are a few pointers. The spice levels are 1-5. You can add spice to your curry. The levels jump up quick. I can handle spicy but I order at most a 3 here. You have to order the sticky mango rice. It's never disappointed us and is a light finish to a meal. The curry and pad Thai are great but they don't come with a lot of chicken. I always order extra chicken for an extra $2. Take out is fast, eating in is nice but the restaurant does not have great ventilation. It can get quite hot inside. Overall, great Thai food and my favorite in Portland. read more

Excellent service and atmosphere. It has been updated since the new owners took it over. The artwork on the walls is varied- with some old looking pictures of Thailand, to modern prints and posters from pop stars. The chefs from Pom stayed on. They kept the most popular dishes from the menu and added some new items. We got fried spring rolls, Tom Kha soup, Panang beef, and Evil Tofu. We went 3* since it was new to us, and that was just perfect. The owner, Nonsee, brought us a couple of hot sauces on the side. I would highly recommend this new place. Decided on tamarind duck, served with salad & triangle of scallion pancake. It was FABULOUS! The duck was tender slices in the tamarind sauce (mild) and vegetables perfectly cooked, not overcooked! Had a craving for Thai and this place did not disappoint. I have kept my eye on this place since the new owners and name was first being talked about and after seeing so many positive reviews I knew I needed to go sooner rather than later. There is a reason why so many others have also given this place a 5 star. I never went here before the new owners and new name but I'll be trying to return here frequently. We lucked out going at a non busy time on a Wednesday but the dining space is small so on a weekend or during the summer expect a possible wait. Every staff member was friendly and attentive and every bite made me want to go back and get more. I highly recommend the crab rangoons as an app and the duck noodle soup (any duck dish would likely be phenomenal though). I look forward to returning to try their cocktails, more apps and get the duck noodle soup again! Prices were very reasonable in my opinion as well.
