Hole in the wall on Granville. You can see that this is a true mom and pop shop with the kids behind the counter studying. If you're not fussed on ambiance is fast and friendly joint is great. Don't expect pretty artwork and cloth napkins. Tried the som tum/papaya salad. Hits the spot when you are craving it but nothing to write home about. read more

Now, this is what I would call a "hole in the wall" restaurant which, upon entering, added to its authenticity. There is very limited space to dine in, which signaled to me that most of their customers either ordered delivery or to-go. I called to place my order, but no one picked up, so I ended up taking the walk to this restaurant - which I randomly picked from a slew of other thai restaurants. The gentleman who took my order spoke very little english, but was friendly and patient with me as I tried to figure out all of what I wanted (I thought I would remember - but alas, my brain had clocked out for the day). I ended up placing an order for two soups (thai wonton and crispy chicken with noodle), chicken pad thai (thai noodles, egg, bean sprout, topped with ground peanuts), and the thai salad with peanut sauce (sliced chicken, fresh crisp lettuce with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, carrots, and egg with peanut sauce), which they cooked from scratch. The pad thai was *chef's kiss*, the salad was light and refreshing (though the peanut sauce was more reminiscent of a sort of coconut curry taste and consistency). I enjoyed every item I ordered and enjoyed the fact that I introduced my friend to a new thai spot. We had enough food to last us 2-3 days, which is a nod to their generous portion sizes. Going in I wasn't sure what to expect but Thai Town's pricing looked decent and they were MSG-free. Grayson went with the dinner combo for $12. It was worth it because it came with fried wonton, spring rolls, rice and his beef and veggies with peanut sauce. I decided to go for the Tom Yum noodle soup with vermicelli noodles. The soup was quite good, but it wasn't worth $11. It wasn't very filling and the chicken looked like it was ripped up by hand because it was oddly torn. So disappointing. We saw our server all of 2 times and the restaurant was practically empty. When we were paying by card at the counter, they set the minimum tip standard to 18% which was unreasonable. It wasn't fine-dining, we weren't given particularly good service and were disappointed with our visit. It was ridiculous to have to tip so much for no reason really. read more

Ordered for pickup from Thai Town since I was craving Pad Thai and they were one of the few shops open late. I ordered online on their website for pickup and payed in store. What I like is that they have alot of combo deals - I got their dinner combo (only available M-F after 3pm or all day weekends) and it was $14.99. The combo included a side salad, two veggie spring rolls, two deep fried wontons and the entree which I picked the tamarind sauce style pad thai. Everything was cooked hot and fresh and packaged nicely, however they didn't follow my instructions as I don't like bean sprouts and asked for it without but they still added it, they also didn't give me any crushed peanuts or lime. The portion overall was really big and filling but the tamarind sauce was ridiculously sweet like pure cane sugar. I usually love sweet tamarind sauce for my pad thai but this was a bit too much where I kept having to drink water. Regardless of the sweetness, I liked how their chicken was marinated and flavourful and the noodles had a perfect al dente texture, I liked how they used the thicker rice noodles too. The spring rolls werent rolled tightly enough so alot of oil seeped in, but the fried wontons were my favourite, the meat was still flavourful and it had crispy skin. The sweet and sour dipping sauce was really watery and I thought it was fish sauce at first. The veggies in the salad were fresh but it just needed a dressing. Overall, I would say it is 3/5 stars for now but I want to give them another chance as the staff were so sweet and friendly, maybe I will try other items on the menu next time. read more

This order is strictly based on my delivery experience. I had a huge craving for Thai food, so my brother and I ordered Thai Town through Skip The Dishes. The order did arrive a bit later than what we were quoted, but we didn't mind since we were also watching the Raptors game. I ordered a tamarind pad thai w/ prawns and an iced tea. For those two items it came to around $20. Not too bad. I was a bit disappointed with the food overall though. The pad thai itself was dry and lacked any flavour. I'm not sure if this was because it took about an hour to get from the kitchen to our door, but when we ate it, there was almost no sauce. However, I did really enjoy the ice tea though and didn't think it was overly sweet like other places. It may be a different dine-in experience, but based on my delivery experience, I'll likely satisfy my pad thai craving elsewhere. read more

A rainy Sunday lunch time in Vancouver three of us were looking for a lunch spot and just happened to park under Tinseltown mall and decided to try the food court and found a actual sit-down restaurant which looked pretty nice. The service and food was a little slow in coming considering they were only two or three other tables besides us very slow for a rainy day here. My daughter ordered the pad thai tofu and our friend the pad see iew chicken and I ordered the yellow curry with scallops and prawns. Noticed that scallops having an S at the end makes it plural but we only found one scallop in about 8 prawns in my dish. I asked the server and then the manager about where's the rest of those scallops? And they both said so it only comes with one. Of course I replied about scallops being plural and should be more than one. But I don't think they understood English very well end we just left it at that but all dishes were tasty. Also my Curry was supposed to have sweet potatoes but they were regular white potatoes. We just might make another choice in the future dining decisions. If only Yelp had 1/2 * increments this would be three and a half star rating as I like to give a benefit of a doubt here. read more

Good for family and kids, noise level is average, accept major credit cards, debit cards and cash, gratuity starts with 18%..... we don't have lots of time to go over the menu so we all decided we will have the combination meal for three it is $47.99 + tax +tip. Start with 3 spring rolls veggies very crispy despite they served this semi soaked with vinegar they were yummy. fallowed by the main dish Green Curry beef with Bamboo shoots. there is a bite spicy but very delish meat is so tender sliced in small and bite size.For us Asian this kind of dish is very very good to eat and enjoy with steam rice. Another dish came in few minutes it was the garlic tofu.You can actually choose from pork,chicken,beef or tofu.It was very good the aroma of this dish makes me salivate,well my craving for this day is actually chopsuey,a mixed veggies so this one looks like it,the veggies were cooked perfectly,a bit crispy but so delish,that is what I want for veggies somewhat crispy,half cooked. This place is found by the food court at International Village. You wouldn't see it as it's a bit hidden between a couple of food stalls. We had gone as a big group of about 16 people. We were seated pretty quickly as we had reservation. There were some other people there too. The host was also our server and cook. Maybe she was the daughter of the owner? There was another server however she seemed a bit confused since she didn't take the orders so didn't know who ordered what when the food came. The service was a bit slow as our drinks took awhile and we had to ask several times for water. After we got our orders and finished eating, we probably sat there for another 30-40 minutes chatting. Our host/server was busy cooking for other people in the restaurant so she wasn't able to clear The tables. The owner just sat there looking at us. He never came to clear the tables, refill the water or help out the servers. When we asked for the bill, he got up and went to our host/server to give us the bill while she was busy cooking. She had to stop and sort the bills as the other server didn't know who ate what. I felt so bad for our host/server. It was like she was the one-woman show. There was another cook so she didn't have to cook it all but still, the guy could have done something instead of just sitting there. I would give the food 3.5 stars as it was really good. I would our host/server 5 stars for doing what she could as she was doing it all. Would I come back?? Not only is it nice to have a real restaurant inside Tinseltown mall, it's a much better alternative before/after the movies instead of the food court. Plus it's a nice decor for sit-down and a place to relax in their comfy booths. While this location has changed hands several times with ambigious names (last one I recall was Skyline, as a consultant, what/how does that refer to the cuisine food, lol....heck, you're not even on the top penthouse, but I digress). The red curry was deleesh, with lots of bamboo shoots. Same for their pad Thai, fresh. And their new version of bbq wings & sweet/sour pork also worth ordering again. Own washrooms so you don't need to walk all the way to the public ones. Friendly service, the husband/wife team are pretty much the nicest Thai ppl you'll ever meet. read more

It's hard to find really good Thai food in Vancouver these days. There were a few places that used to be excellent and cheap (like Mali Thai on Broadway), but they seem to go downhill fast in quality. Others are just mediocre and overpriced (think: Yaletown). Thai Town is a rare gem for Thai cuisine in Vancouver. Though oddly located (attached to a food court in a crappy mall) and with a dining area that is just way too large, it is well worth a visit for authentic Thai food and service. The restaurant is run by warm and approachable Thai people (seems like a family), the menu is extensive but reasonably priced and the whole place (including kitchen) is very clean. All important factors. The tamarind pad thai had great flavour - although maybe a touch heavy on the garlic - and the curry vegetable dish was a very nice balance of sweet, coconuty, and salty. Would definitely go back. Hopefully they can stay in business given the weird location and too-large space. read more

The dishes do not look the same as the pictures - the dishes are lack of substances and they taste salty. The Thai iced tea is too sweet and full of ice. Service should be better with their price; the waitress was inattentive and looked uninterested. The food was great until we found a bug floating in our food. Had the chicken and vegetables, which had the bug. Unfortunately I was really disappointed with the chicken pad thai here. I had the pad thai lunch combo which came with a side salad and spring roll. The pad thai was over sauced and overly sweet. The spring roll filling was just rice noodles and nothing else, some meat and veggies would have made all the difference. It was a lot of food for $10 but quality was just not there. The prawn tom yum soup was good but expensive at $11 for a medium size (it was more than my lunch combo!). There were plenty of mushrooms but didn't see any sign of tomatoes. The fried wontons were ok - really hard to go wrong with that - nothing special very average. The crispy chicken noodles was the most disappointing. The noodles were under cooked and also stuck together as they pack it in a box. The soup was really salty and the chicken! The chicken was one of the driest chewy chicken I've ever had. The breading was super thick and it was not chewy. You know when the breading is fried in the wrong temperature or batter is not made right , it will come out chewy and white? That's how half of the chicken came out to be. Took it home and even my mom lectured me on buying something so bad. read more

The salad was a little comical but it was included with the dinner combo. The dinner combo for $12 included a pad thai (very small portion comparatively to other thai restaurants) along with 2 spring roll (small spring roll) and 2 fried wonton (reasonable). It also included a side salad which was unseasoned - must have used the spring roll dip that was suppose to be for the salad. Overall, it was ok but the food prep was too slow to make the wait worth while. The value also wasn't there although it was a nice variety for the dinner combo, all the items were rather mediocre and not substantially portioned most of all the salad being pretty much a hand full of shredded vegetables. I was so excited to have this restaurant as my new GO TO thai place. We ordered once before and everything was delicious. However, this time, it was just sooo not worth it. With all the other yummy thai places out there, something has to stand out. And customer service is a big one! We ordered the CU2, prawns and scallop yellow curry. We specifically wanted seafood with our meal and this fit the bill! We also ordered the pad thai and coconut rice with spring rolls. When we received our order, the curry was chicken and onion. We were very confused and contacted customer service at Skipthedishes, who then got in touch with the restaurant directly. The restaurant said, if you wanted to order CU2, you then had to add prawns, otherwise, it would come with chicken? Huh? We looked back at the site and see there are two CU2 options, one for yellow curry with chicken, beef, pork and prawns, OR just prawns and scallop yellow curry option. We wanted that option, and we chose that option! The restaurant said that it was our problem we didn't add prawns (no mention of scallops) and that they would not do anything about it. We also brought out, the pineapple and red pepper and bamboo shoots as advertised were not in the curry either. They said, sorry. Thats it. Had they said, we'll give you a free spring rolls on your next order, a credit for half the order, anything, something! But to absolutely dig their heels in and say too bad, not our problem. I discovered this eatery by accident. My friend and I wanted to grab a bite before the film so we went to the food court and discovered this hidden gem. The full size restaurant is tucked away in the food court of 88 West Pender on the second floor. There's ample seating so we sat by the huge windows. We ordered the traditional Pad Thai with prawns and the Swimming Angel dish which is chicken and spinach with peanut sauce and a side of rice. Both dishes were delicious. I also had the fresh young coconut water which was refreshing. The server was friendly and attentive and the dishes arrived quickly. This is a wonderful place when you would like to grab a quick bite before a movie. The prices are also reasonable too. You can order dishes a la carte or you can do dinner combos. My bad for trusting a glorified food court stall. It has all the trappings of food court food even though it's a "restaurant" within the food court. So I received oversalted everything I had to throw out and undercooked eggplant I also had to throw out. The "garlic sauce" was doused in what tasted like all soy sauce. Totally one dimensional and not even cooked properly. The vegetables were tiny and felt like a reserve of vegetable stock like carrots, mushrooms, and cabbage. What you did get for broccoli would be, for example, not the actual florets of broccoli, but the florets chopped to their last lifeless strand! Oh and I asked for medium spicy but instead of seeing chopped up chillies like expected, I saw black pepper over everything.... The restaurant was not busy and I sat in a very comfortable chair by the window. I was early for a movie and no one bothered me about staying and waiting. I will definitely be back.
