Stopped by the Nanaimo St. location of Thai Away Home & left full & happy! Their portions are generous & every dish tastes truly authentic. Bonus: This spot has a new Thai Iced Tea Slushy you won't find anywhere else (yet)! It's super refreshing & less sweet than the classic. I love it!! We ordered: - Crunchy Fried Chicken - Red Curry with Bamboo Shoots + Prawn - Thai Beef Salad - Pad Thai + Chicken - Italian Soda - Thai Iced Tea Slushy *only at this location! - Mango Sticky Rice I love their rich curries (with a generous serving of prawns), & pad thai noodles (perfect texture & taste every time). Their Mango Sticky Rice dessert is one of the best ones I've tried so far in Vancouver. This location is quite small with only a handful of tables but service was friendly & prompt. Will definitely be back again if I happen to be in the area!

Staff is welcoming and attentive, we got seated right away. The restaurant is cozy with chill vibes. They have a nice selection of drinks. I always love Thai iced tea and my husband tried the slushy Thai tea, which is only available at this location on Hastings. We loved the authentic Thai flavours with fresh ingredients and rich sauces. My fave was the Thai beef salad, everything blended well together and it had a nice kick to it. My husband really liked the yellow curry with potato, the curry was so flavourful and the dish came with a ton of potatoes. We saved the best for last...I would come back just for the mango sticky rice! The rice was warm and the sweet coconut sauce drizzled over the rice and mango was chef's kiss.

We were near East Hasting & decided to have lunch there. Place was clean, tidy & nicely decorated. The restaurant is on East Hastings & parking is street parking, it was somewhat difficult to find parking but be patient on the parking situation. They had lunch specials till 3pm, it includes a fried spring roll. Staff was friendly & very helpful, your water cup is never empty, quite attentive to service, which can be a challenge nowadays. We ordered Pad See Ew with chicken & a Red Curry with Chicken. Both dishes were spot on for the taste. We were pleased with the vegetarian spring roll that came with a small dish of Thai sweet chili sauce. The Pad See Ew was very flavourful with lots of sliced chicken breast & veggies. The red curry was fabulous with rich coconut milk, it was not spicy but I liked it that way. I am sure you can tell them to make it spicier if you like your curry spicy. The staff checked on us a few times to make sure the food was ok. If you are ever in East Hastings, do check them out. A small outdoor seating is available too. They do a lot of takeout too. They also have tofu as a vegetarian option. Overall, a good lunch to be had by me & my hubby.

Solid Thai place at the SE corner of Nanaimo and Hastings. This location opened early 2023, and is the 2nd location. The original is at Cambie and 17th, and is still there as of the time of writing. Parking is available on Hastings as well as the side streets. There are some free spots away from the intersection. In addition, there are some spots ate the back of the building. Place is nice and modern. Nice tropical theme. Staff are friendly. Spring rolls - 4 in an order. Served with sweet/spicy (plum?) dipping sauce. Didn't see any meat inside, but they tasted pretty decent. Nice and cristy. Skin is the non fluffy (Chinese style?) type. Pad kra pao moo sub on rice - basically a pile of ground beef with red chili and basil, and a pile of rice. Really tasty. Just the right amount of heat when I asked for "Thai spicy". I also tried some of my friend's tom yum fried noodle with prawns. Flavour for this one is pretty intense. A bit on the sour side - I think they use quite a bit of lemon. Not a bad thing at all, but just a heads up. My only complaint is that the portion size is a bit small for the price. In any case, the food was pretty tasty. I'd eat here again.

We came on a Saturday around 11:30am. There was no wait when we arrived. We got the lunch specials: pad thai ($14.95), pad si ew ($14.95), thai fried rice ($14.95) and green curry with egg plant ($14.95). We also got the crispy wonton ($11.95), thai pink milk (4.95) and thai iced tea (5.59). The portions for the lunch specials are just right. Each one comes with a fried spring roll. Our favorite was the green curry with egg plant. Everything was a little sweet but other than that the flavours were not bad. The pad thai noodles weren't over cooked. Between the pad thai and pad si ew I prefer the pad si ew. I would pass on the crispy wonton next time. It wasn't crispy enough. The thai iced tea was overly sweet. Would ask for less sugar next time if possible. Overall service was good and food came out really fast. Price wise was not bad. It's hard to find lunch for $15 nowadays.

Is a review a review? I get that people have preferences. Google or Yelp? Should it matter? Honestly people want to know about a restaurant or a service why would it matter which platform you use? Again it's probably preference. But it's weird when you only have ONE review in the last four month. It doesn't seem to bode well. But I digress. What you're really wanting to know is about the food. Thai Away Home sits on the busy corner of Nanaimo St. and E. Hastings St.. Parking can be a hit or miss depending on the time of day, but you can usually find a pay to park spot around the area. The interior is clean and simple, with seating up to maybe 30 people tops. The Food: They have the classic: Pad Thai, colourful curries, papaya salad, Tom Yum soup, etc. What we ordered: Pad Thai $15.95 Green Curry with Eggplant $15 Yellow Curry with Potato $15 (combo+$3) Pad Si Ew $13 Pad Kee Mao $15 Crunchy Fried Chicken 6pcs. $12 Swimming Rama $15 (combo +3) Rice $2 *Combos come with a fried Spring roll, Green Salad, Hot and Sour Soup & White/Brown Rice with your choice of curry or entrée. **note: entrée size is smaller in combo then actual entrée. ** The highlight was definitely the Crunchy Fried Chicken. The batter was light and crispy; not oily at all and comes with a sweet chili sauce for dip. The curries were decent with the right amount of heat. I'm sure you can always ask for more if you're a hot head. The Cons: There seemed to be some discrepancy with the potion size. When we first arrived we saw another customer with a mountain of noodles on a plate that could easily feed 2 people. When we asked the waitress what it was she told us it was the Pad Thai. When we ordered it, the serving size was enough for just one person. What happened to the rest of it? Did the cook who cooked our skimp out on us? When we asked the waitress she didn't seem to have an answer. It was fine, since we had ordered enough food for the table. The Noodles for the Pad Si Ew and the Pad Kee Mao were the same thin ones as the Pad Thai. Although they had a great 'wok' flavor, most places have a wider rice noodle to help absorb the sauce. They either ran out of it or they're assuming a noodle is just a noodle and people wont know the difference. Also the fact that they didn't blanch the spinach in the Swimming Rama, felt like a miss step, leading to the chicken and the peanut sauce to get cold faster. I know it's a minor detail, but this doesn't want me to go back and order it again. Because we went in a group of 6, we were automatically charged with gratuity fee. They will try to charge you the automatic gratuity fee if you end up splitting the bill. So, maybe don't... Thai Away Home does have lunch specials which may be great when you get that craving. And they seem to do a lot of takeaway business which is great for those whom don't want to leave their homes. This is the second restaurant I've been to recently where the restaurants will entice you to write a review or post to social media to get a free item or discount. So if you're wondering why they have a 4.9 score on Google, its so people can get a free drink. And they will only except Google Reviews. I'm all happy to help promote small businesses with no incentive. I'm not an influencer. All I can do is tell my friends of family and post a picture or two. Take this review with a grain of salt and go try it for yourself.

Google reviews rated this place 4.9 stars from 700+ reviewers so we decided to give this place a try for lunch. We noticed the restaurant wasn't too busy on a weekend but they had consistent takeout pickups. We ordered: -Pad Thai with chicken lunch special with a spring roll. We thought the sauce was a bit salty and chicken was a bit dry. Spring roll had a really nice golden color but it was greasy tasting. (2 stars) -Pad Si Ew with chicken lunch special with a spring roll. We thought this was good. I preferred this over the Pad Thai. The chicken was a bit dry and the spring roll was greasy tasting. (3.5 star) -Thai ice tea - ice tea had a good flavor but it was a little too sweet for my personal preference. If you write a review of your experience before leaving, the drink is free. Food was between ok and good. Portion was decent and the price was economical at $12.95 per lunch special. I would come back to try other stuff. Review Rating: 1 - Poor, 2 - OK, 3 - Good, 4 - Very Good, 5 - Excellent

Downside was the calamari, the pieces are quite big which make it not as crispy as it would be. Our favorite was the salmon penang curry. the coconut flavor of the curry together with the sweetness make it a very well balanced item. it went very well with the jasmine rice. Drinks were nice (BBL/peach Bellini non-alcoholic) but probably overpriced for the size. (Banju drinks are half the price.) My friend's seafood dish had a weird mix of too many onions and drowned lettuce with not enough noodles. My pad Thai with beef had kind of a fishy taste. Have had more delicious pad Thai at places like Thai Coco or even Thai Express. Was offered dessert but didn't feel like staying. Servers were telling other customers about their 1.5 hour policy and they were really bothered by my empty drink container on the table until I put it down below on a chair for our purses and things. I actually wanted to keep the cup because it was thick plastic and reusable. Weird that at 5:30, they wouldn't let people sit inside because of reservations. Didn't look full by the time we left either so I think we could have sat inside just fine. Anyway ... I don't think I'll be back.

Steep as it is, I decided I wanted a "quick little sushi lunch with a view", and a quick little sushi lunch with a few is exactly what I received. Although I don't recommend it, I walked right in from the street, no reservation, and was seated at the bar (in pretty casual street clothes I may add). I enjoyed a premium sake flight (which was fine...just fine), an old fashioned served with the perfect accompanying dark chocolate, and a good amount of sushi including their signature aburi style sushi in flight form and nigiri tuna flight (bluefin, chutoro, otoro). After visiting Japan last December, I'm a bit of an otoro snob but I have to hand it to them, all three of these cuts were perfect. The accompanying rice, perfection. The quality of the fish, divine. The view was the cherry on top of this experience. This will certainly be a spot I revisit next time I'm in Vancouver.

Michelin starred quality in their service by how they explained the menu, brought out the food, came back around to refill waters. Just top notch service and elegantly so. The food was good but not of value. Their lunch set was a good introductory to what they offer. I enjoyed the food for its flavours and presentation but I thought that it was a bit overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, fresh and definitely elevated, but it was $50 for 10pcs of sushi, 2 appetizer sized samples of their appetizer or entree dishes, and miso soup (which we did not get and didn't realize till much later in the day). If you're wanting an upscale experience (and portion) of good quality food or wanting to impress other parties, then this is a nice spot. For regular eats, it's a bit too luxurious to be a casual thing in my opinion. The ambiance is nice and calm. They have a patio, which has a meh view overlooking the harbor, but beware of a breezy day. It will catch a bit of a wind tunnel. They have heaters and blankets but the heaters don't really reach unless you're sitting next to it.

My partner really wanted to try their Boat Noodle for a while now so we were quite excited to try that dish. The waiter was nice and recommended a couple dishes for us. Som Tum (Papaya Salad) 3/5 The texture was nice and it tasted refreshing but it is QUITE spicy. I appreciate the authentic Thai spice level but it was too spicy for us. I liked the sourness and I know this rating is a very personal rating based on our spice tolerance. Roti with Curry Sauce 3.75/5 Nice, flaky roti that wasn't too oily. I wish there was a little more sauce. Pad See Ew with Crab Meat 4/5 Great flavor. There was a decent number of clumped up noodle but the portion was great. Good amount of crab as well. Boat Noodle Soup 4.25/5 This was the best boat noodle we had so far. Flavorful broth with generous portion of various meats. There could be an option to get more noodles but my partner got this and she was satisfied with the amount since there were good chunks of meat. Good heat that creeps up. Roselle Drink 3.75-4.5/5 Great compliment to the dishes as it lightened and refreshed our pallette. Slightly sour. It tasted better with the food than by itself. Thai Milk Tea 3.5/5 Good enough. Wasn't the best but wasn't bad. Rainbow Sweet Sticky Rice 4.25/5 We were surprised it came in a cup and that it was soup-ier than we imagined. I was hoping that they had mango sticky rice but we thoroughly enjoyed the coconut I think it's also important to keep in mind that this is a relatively fast paced restaurant. We had PAD PONG GARREE CRAB MEAT (turmeric curry with crab meat) and PAD KEE MAO CRAB MEAT (stir fired sheet noodles with crab meat) as our mains. Both dishes came with impressive amount of crab chunks. They were very flavorful and delicious. The curry was smooth and went so well with rice. The Pad Kee Mao was very well done too!
