This was a much better lunch option than fast food and it was definitely worth the two extra miles from the highway and about 10 minutes extra for table service. We actually got our food quite fast on Saturday for lunch. There were other customers and I was impressed with how quickly we got our food. The panang curry, dragon noodles were great and the thai fried rice was pretty good. It tastes like what I imagine homemade thai food would be like. Pricing was very reasonable for lunch about 8$ an entree and quite big for lunch sized portion. The hostess/waitress and maybe owner was patient and helpful. This place is SO good! It's a very nice date night environment- quiet, clean, a good amount of options with customizable heat and delicious. Great service- everyone we came In contact with was so nice! We didn't know what appetizers to get so we tried the Sampler and they were all delicious. It came with dumplings, spring rolls, chicken satay and crab wontons. My favorite were the spring rolls! We tried the soups and out favorite was the Chicken wonton. It tasted like Homemade chicken and noodle soup that my mom used to make! We tried the yellow curry and it did not disappoint! We got water and the Thai Iced Tea which tasted like vanilla ice cream! One of my favorite places to pick up food in Richmond. I'm not from the Midwest and find most food bland here. Also pretty much every place is a chain restaurant Thai Tara's selection and flavor are comforting and light but filling. They give you a huge serving enough for me to break it into 2-3 decent meals. Tofu pad-tai and beef Massaman Curry and rice are my favorites. My boyfriend really likes the drunken noodles. They even gave my dog a little treat! read more

This is a tough one because this is probably the best restaurant in town but it's no where near the best Thai restaurant I have been to. There was 4 of us who visited with wildly different choices in food. We also ordered the sampler for appetizer. We all literally had 0 complaints for food. Service was nothing special but as solid as it could be. Nothing above and beyond but nothing to complain about. The restaurant itself is a little dated and kind of dingy. From the outside it has 0 appeal and the inside does not fair much better. The bathrooms were also very old and worn and the floor was a little sticky. This food in a new or updated location would bring 5 stars. Although, put this restaurant in a big city with competition and it would easily be 3 stars. read more

First to review! Thai Thara is a welcome addition to Richmond, IN. I was a little worried about potential crowding since it was opening day, but was very surprised to find that we were the only table. This resulted in excellent service from a super friendly staff. I'm not very knowledgeable on Thai food, so I went with a vegetable pad thai which was $7.25. It was a lot of food, and I ended up taking about half home with me. It was really stinkin good. Crisp vegetables and super great spices. The rice was a really great quality too. They gave us a complimentary dessert since we were their first table. So you must try the sleeping banana as well. It was great! So excited to have this place in Richmond. My wife and I had lunch for right at $15 before tip. That's a really great deal considering combo meals at Wendy's or Arby's run more than $7 now. We'll be back often. read more

What a welcome addition to the Richmond dining scene! As others have mentioned Thai Thara has taken over the old Power House restaurant on Chester. The owners also own Thai Smile 2 in Muncie. First, this is some of the best service I've had in Richmond. The waiters are friendly and attentive. They fill your water without having to ask. The manager checked on all the tables. And we were in and out in under an hour which is perfect for lunch (hey Yamato, take note!) At the recommendation of the server, I had the Pad Kee-Mao (Spicy Noodles) with chicken for $7.25. I was surprised that the noodles also came with a side of rice. The plate was huge, and I took some home with me. Lunch is also served with a small bowl of very sweet chicken soup and a fried dumpling. I wasn't a fan of the sweet soup, but my friend loved it. She had the Masman Curry ($7.50) which she said was excellent. I thought the quality of the meal was excellent. One thing that is a little confusing about the menu, is that dishes have your choice of tofu, chicken, beef, or pork (of shrimp for an extra $2) unless otherwise noted. All dishes have a spice level of 1-5, and I got 2 which was plenty for me for lunch. Lunch prices are $7.25 to $7.50 and dinner runs $9.50 to $15.95. Take out lunch doesn't include soup. read more

I am so happy that I can get Thai food even when I come home to visit my parents now! The food was great lots and lots of options. I remember the menu having close to six pages I think. Prices were very reasonable they all made sense for the amount of food that you were getting. You can even give orders to go if you're just swinging through town. I would definitely go back to eat here again. I tried a steamed shrimp dish that came in a little pot. I don't remember what it's called, but I do remember that it was really good. I am so happy to have found incredible curry in Richmond, IN! I had heard about Thai Thara from a faculty member at Earlham and remembered it when we looked on Yelp for dinner suggestions. This place is a definite boost to the local fare offered in Richmond. It is on par with Thai food I have had in other U.S. cities and I consider myself somewhat of a curry connoisseur. specializing in Panang and Red curries with a minor in Massaman. I highly recommend the pumpkin curry from Thai Thara. I am craving it right now. It is really amazing. They give you a lot of food, which is great, but I couldn't do a to-go box since we were headed to a play followed by an hour-long drive. Next time I will bring a cooler or something so I don't have to sacrifice my lovely leftovers. If you are cruising down I-70 and hadn't planned to stop in Richmond but would prefer REAL food to McFast-food, it is well worth the jaunt down Chester Blvd to get some thai food at Thai Thara. read more

I'm a big fan of Thai Smile in Muncie, so I was thrilled to learn they were opening up a Richmond branch. The food is more or less the same, so no problems there. I love the pineapple fried rice and the Pad Thai... both are great dishes for someone unfamiliar with Thai food to try. I agree with Cat - the spice level of 3 is all you really need to get your heat fix without compromising the other flavors. I'm looking forward to trying the spicy green beans/Pad Prik on my next visit. Only complaint - the ambiance is a bit lacking, both indoors and out. Maybe they'll work on that later. read more

This has been one of my best Thai food experiences I've ever had. The food was very delicious, the ambience is quiet and calming and the wait staff are friendly and helpful with menu choices. The pictures on the wall show off Thailand's beautiful scenery and a small indoor waterfall fountain provides a relaxing environment for casual conversation. My wife and I dined there together for the late afternoon/dinner menu. I had the sweet and sour chicken and my lovely wife had the tangerine-pineapple chicken. The sweet and sour chicken is very refreshing for this variety of cuisine as it isn't battered and fried like Chinese food is. They have a spice rating of 1-5 and I chose a 2 as I don't handle spicy food very well. The flavors were delicious and were all put together very well. My wife enjoyed the pineapple and tangerine chicken and as I sampled a bite of hers I noticed it reminded me of a very good fried Chinese dish known as Hawaiian chicken that I had had at another restaurant years before. The batter was crisp and the chicken was very juicy and moist. The aromatic melodies of tangerines and pineapples created a wonderful aroma wafting from the table. The syrupy sweet mixture that was drizzled over this dish was heavenly to be succinct. Overall, the experience was wonderful. It had been our 7th anniversary dinner and it was very pleasant indeed. Looking for something quick before the drive home, Thai Thara was close and it ended up hitting the spot. I had the red curry, with beef. The broth was tasty - not too sweet, but with really good chile flavor and solid heat, and there were plenty of veggies, bell peppers, bamboo, and basil. Not a ton of beef, but it was tender, not overcooked or stringy like it can sometimes be in this kind of dish. As with Indian food, I can usually make myself happy just by eating the broth from a dish like this with rice - not exactly healthy, but it always hits the spot. I would definitely come back if I find myself in town again. They have a large menu, and very quick service...I might even break out of my insert-name-of-color curry rut. read more

The lunch special mentioned by Shawn D. sounds fantastic - $7.25, huge portions, etc. Not so for the dinner crowd. Twice I have ordered the pineapple fried rice for carryout. The portion was average, 7-8" shallow to-go container. In one order the cashews were absent from the dish. My bill? $15.00. No spring roll, no ragoon - just the pineapple fried rice dish. After a tip it was $18.00. On another visit I placed a carryout for 2 orders of ragoons for appetizers. When I arrived home, thinking an order contained 5, it was only 3. Granted I should have inquired instead of relying on menu offerings at other thai/asian restaurants. While I find the food satisfying my wallet is bitter. read more

I went searching for food on my visit to Richmond and found this gem. I have since visited twice with excellent service on both occasions. Entrees provide delicious Thai treats with excellent value for the portion. They offer curries, pad thai, drunken noodles, and a host of other delightful meals. During Covid it has been only carry out, which is a bummer, but the food is amazing. I have stopped by a couple of times before class, during lunch the service is pretty quick, sometimes they're busy at night but they still get you your food pretty fast. I recommend the Pad Thai with chicken. The servings are a good size and the service is great. This restaurant has the worst sanitation, ambiance, service and food I have ever experienced and should be avoided despite what the reviews say. The water I was given had food in it, for starters. The menu description for the chicken dish we ordered didn't say "deep fried" and was dried out and hard, almost burned. Besides that, it was delivered 10 minutes before our Pad Thai so I asked my wife to start without me. The phone was ringing constantly with a voicemail message at top volume since the calls were not answered. The ambiance was poor but the waitress was yelling in the kitchen at top volume, I guess for the Pad Thai, which must have been forgotten in the confusion. We are both not feeling well and wonder whether to trust Yelp reviews again since we love Thai food and this experience was horrible.
