Here's the thing about Thai Taste, some dishes are simply better than others. The end result is a spot I'd never steer someone away from. I'm not a tried and true expert of sushi, but I will say that I love this place and what they make. It's a hole-in-the-wall. It may be expensive for the west side. But it is YUM. My kids LOVE the chicken fried rice -- it's one of the better ones that you can get in our area, complete with more than a piece of chicken and freshly cooked veggies. I love the noodle dishes and the curry, specifically the Drunken Noodle/Basil dish. I love experimenting with the different rolls offered. It's just good food. Though I do feel broke when I order it frequently. But it's worth it while I'm eating it! read more

Great Thai food. Do not be deceived by appearances. This is great food and a good value. Roll in the fact that it's on the westside and you've got a no-brainer. Sushi is hard to beat and makes every other place taste like Kroger's (sorry Kroger). I love the Florida Roll. There is no better massuman (sp?) in the city - and I've tried plenty. Seriously, if you're in to pretentious Thai places - keep moving. But if you truly crave/love Thai food, a trip down Crookshank is worth your while. read more

This restaurant signed up with the restaurant.com website (according to a customer service representative from their site) and then DOESN'T accept their certificates. Sketchy. That was the only reason we went and we spent $50 to hit the certificate amount, then the manager says she won't accept it. The service was slow, the food was bland, and it was not worth what we paid. The manager could have gone about the whole situation nicely. We were never rude and just calmly asked why they didn't accept them, She didn't have an answer and then started saying "please don't be mad at me." Not a proper way to handle this situation. Definitely will not ever be returning. There are so many other places that have better food and cheaper prices. read more

Today was my first experience with the Thai Taste restaurant. This was a pick-up order. Ordered 2 Summer rolls (Shrimp, fresh lettuce, carrots, cilantro and rice noodles rolled in rice paper). There were no rice noodles, and they added bean sprouts. The rolls were about 90% lettuce. Also ordered sushi: Florida Roll (8 pcs) & Kani Oshi Roll (8 pcs) and though they were quite tasty, I only got 6 pieces of each. They also packed both rolls in the same container, so the 2 different dressing/sauces kinda combined. read more

I ordered our usual for Valentine's Day carryout. It was extremely dry and we called up to ask for a remake. We were told to bring the food back and they will remake it. We dumped the bowls we were eating back into the container so they couldn't say we ate most of it. They told us it would be waiting for us. When we got there they told my wife to wait 15 minutes as they wanted to make it fresh. After waiting, they handed her a sealed bag. When she gets home we find out that they took our soiled food into their kitchen where they re-prepared our already cold food.MAJOR HEALTH CODE AND SANITARY VIOLATION to reprocess food that has been eaten from in your kitchen with new food. If they wanted to do that they should have just said we'll give you some sauce. I called and the manager said you just needed more sauce. I explained the health code to her as I work in food service and quickly said i could have a refund. Its scary that they have no idea of health code and food safety standards. What's even more scary was my food wasn't even hot which can cause bacteria to grow. When i get there she told me she would make my food. This is my 3rd tine here lady i just want the refund you promised. My order was $13.49, I was given $13. I'm not going to argue over. 51c, Fine keep it. And now my favorite restaurant scares me to much to go back. Sucks that it had to happen on Valentine's Day and I was trying to suprise family. read more

The food has a funky-mildew smell,...which sadly enough, is what the "burps" were flavored of later. Service was OK, though I didn't receive a welcome, most other that entered did. Not much I can add to the reviews posted below. Seems the lines have been drawn and Yelper's have spoken. Funny how people get attached to "Their" ethnic food joint (Thai/Chinese/Sushi/Indian) and judge all others on a sliding scale. I'm a big fan of trying new places and judging on the food. That said...my 2 cents: Thai Taste is one of the bright spots in the wasteland that is ethnic food on the Westside. I consider it to have some of the best reasonably priced sushi in town. Other favs include (that Americanized) Pad Thai and Pineapple Fried Rice with Shrimp. I'm not a stickler on décor and yes it is a bit of a hole in the wall. I don't understand how it can be common knowledge that the best Chinese places in town are all hole in the wall places but when it comes to Thai food a table cloth and fresh flowers suddenly become important. Bottom Line: The food is always a treat, the service is good and the prices will not break the bank. read more

First yelp review. I have been coming to this restaurant for years. I have hosted parties here and have had been a loyal customer. That all stops today. I was shorted two pieces of the more expensive sushi roll I ordered. It was take out. Not a big deal, but I wanted to call and let them aware of the situation. Their menu says it comes with 8 pieces. I only received six. I compared the size to another roll I ordered which was 8 pieces, and my roll was two pieces shorter, aka 6 pieces. When I called, the male who answered the phone wanted to argue with me, telling me that sometimes the rolls are just cut bigger/thicker, and six is still one roll. The menu clearly said its a 8 piece roll, not six, plus it was shorter then the 8 piece roll I also ordered. I informed him that he lost a long customer and he didn't seem phased. Your restaurant needs to learn to not argue with a customer when they complain. The kid had a terrible attitude, and wanted to argue when I was in the right. I'll never come here again. read more

Still excellent as far as I'm concerned, especially if you like sushi, though of course the Green Papaya has them beat in a few key aspects for Cincinnati's best Thai restaurant Still, with my dietary requirements I won't be going there quite as often and will have to go with Lin's Pad Thai next door to J&J's on Glenway more often. First of all let's compare and contrast my previous two favorite Asian restaurants, Rice Time Japanese-themed Asian Fusion in Monmouth Oregon and Royal Thai in the adjacent small town of Independence. The Municipality is home to Western Oregon University, the state's main school for teaching programs, and as a leaseholder and briefly a landlord I roomed a number of students, grad students and even faculty at WOU (and I do heart WOU). I learned the most about food from their conditioning Coach and a grad student in Math education, great because I've been too sedentary the past couple years and my blood sugar and liver enzymes are now at worrisome levels. Not that big of a deal though, because diabetes and fatty liver syndrome are an epidemic worldwide and especially in the West, and if you just eat like you have diabetes and exercise (some) plus take a few medications for blood sugar (and avoid alcohol for the most part) your blood sugar and liver enzymes should resolve themselves (plus you'll quite likely lose weight unless you sabotage the process). My favorite example of how to get healthy is to go live in the third world. I've lived in Yemen for seven months and backpacked in Vietnam for seven months, and without making any efforts to exercise more or change my diet I lost twenty pounds in the first five weeks both times. For healthy food, unless you make your meal unhealthy at Thai Taste, you've come to the right place. By contrast at the Olive Garden, at Outback Steakhouse, name your chain restaurant, good luck getting a healthy meal, much less a meal free of processed industrial garbage food. But back to the Asian restaurants off campus in Oregon. Both were family run, literally a husband and wife with no employees, just relatives filling in once in a while if they were ill or on vacation. At rice time the wife ran the cashier and served the food while the Korean husband cooked. Their big advantage over Thai Taste is they fried their tempura and such in Rice Bran Oil, which is the healthiest oil imaginable compared to processed mixed vegetable Swill oil that's ubiquitous in America. Sure some imbecile of a Medical Doctor can be found to tell that it's safe in moderation, but the sad truth is that most Americans consume shockingly large amounts of it, most especially from deep fried food. If Thai Taste switched to Rice Bran Oil then it would be relatively healthy to eat their tempura for pretty much anyone, though I'd add this oil can be expensive. Also Rice Time made their own iced tea in a large pitcher, and when I first started going to Thai Taste they had unsweet tea from the fountain that was rather vile, whatever they have now may not be true-brewed, and it isn't the iced oolong tea at Green Papaya obviously, but it's as good as the Lipton Iced Tea brewing machine tea that tastes quite refreshing with lime and one sugar packet. A shame they don't have larger glasses. As for Royal Thai in Independence, they had Brown Rice and a Shrimp Tempura appetizer with Sweet and Sour Sauce, and their position on dipping sauce was that Japanese style dipping sauce wasn't part of Thai cuisine so they didn't offer it. Also they had brown rice, which is a (HUGE) deficiency for Thai Taste as far as I'm concerned, on this issue alone I pretty much don't have the spare starchy carbs in my eating plans to get any of their entrees, and while fried rice lowers the glycemic index of an entree, that's only because of the added fat, and if they were frying on just the grill with rice bran oil they'd have a little notice on the menu because it's a premium item so it's industrial processed swilll oil (I assume) like everyplace else. Last time I was there I had the Tom Yum vegetable soup and it was excellent, but I got added chicken and while it was properly prepared the chicken was strips of breast meat that didn't have much flavor, and small portions. I have to look at protein options like the shrimp tempura at Royal Thai ($10.95) which is the size of a large one-compartment take-out styrofoam container, or some of the chicken appetizers at great Indian restaurants like Swad or the Delhi Palace in Silverton that are about $8 and offer over half pound of succulent chicken chunks with peppers and onions. This is real value for protein and I looked over the Thai Taste menu carefully and they don't have lots of protein for your money like these examples. They're still a big hit with friends and family though, and they're always improving their offerings, but Lin's Pad Thai now outpaces them for value and dietary concerns IMHO. read more

Better slow down, or you'll pass this west side gem right up. It's tucked away off the street in the back of a medium sized parking lot. No big corporate chain signage to point the way. The environment is very casual and almost dive-like, but I've noticed in the two times I've been, that there is always a nice size crowd eating here. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. She never let our water get less than half full. After a couple of appetizer samples (pot stickers, and crab rangoon which were both delicious), I ordered the "lava" stir fry with beef. I was concerned about how hot it might be, but they allow you to custom order your own "heat" on a scale of 1-10. I asked for a "4", and my wife went with "9". I thought the "4" was just right, with a little zing but not too hot. My wife scarfed up the "9" without skipping a beat and said it wasn't that hot, but she's a freak of nature when it comes to spicy food... Overall, the food and service are both excellent. It's nice to have a place like this out on the west side within easy grabbing distance. read more

The food at Thai Taste is good, but the rest of the experience is just meh. Our family has eaten there probably 10 times. Sometimes there is an off smell in the building (presumably from plumbing), and if you have a larger group, be prepared to wait a long time for your food. As a matter of fact, the last time I was there, I didn't get my Pho Tai until the rest of my party was almost done eating. We probably won't be going again. read more

This is probably one of my favorite places to eat, ever. First of all, I have been a regular customer since they were located Downtown. The people that work there are always SUPER nice, quick and friendly. And they serve my most favorite food in the world, Pad Thai. I've tried Pad Thai many different places, and NONE have come as close to how I like it as this place..In fact, this place set the standard..which is REALLY High. Its completely full of flavor. I love the Pad Thai so much, although I've been going there for years, I've never actually tried other foods, which I'm sure I'm missing out on. The most venturing I've done was switch up the meats/tofu in my Pad Thai. Although I've wanted to try other things. I do always ask for my Pad Thai with No veggies, because I don't like bamboo shoots or bean sprouts, though. Personal taste, preference. I like it that they allow the option to hold the veggies. Some places are like "no can do, its cooked in" But not this place. Ask for how you want it, and they'll fix it the way you ask. I've not been in a while, but it got to the point where the servers remembered and KNEW exactly what I was going to order. And I always felt the price was worth the amount of Pad Thai that was served. I think I'm gonna go tomorrow! read more
