We moved to Andover very recently and knew we had to try the local Thai places. Thai Sweet Basil has solid reviews, so even though I am picky about my Thai, I thought we would give it a shot. We were there on a Thursday for late lunch and the place was dead other than a bunch of take out orders, so I am sure this was a factor in things going so well for us... Service was excellent. The lady that served us "Tony" at least is what it said on the recipt...nice old Thai lady who chatted with us at the end of the meal was born in Bangkok - she was great through the meal. The Decor is pretty similar to most Thai places. It's nice and the bathroom is nice and clean. No complaints from us. Comfy place with ample room in between tables. The Food was very good. Here is what we had: Crab Rangoon - Very Good. Just like everyplace makes it, they folded the shell a little different than most-and it looked as good as it tasted. 4.5/5 For lunch entrees my girlfriend had the House Fried Rice-which was the best I ever tasted...and more importanly, she loved it too. 5/5 I had the Red Curry with Tofu (not listed on the menu as an option but I love my Curry wtih Tofu so I asked and they said "no problem". Taste wise it was almost as good as my favorite place...but excellent on it's own AND it came with rice. Maybe that's just for lunch because most places make you pay for rice seperately... 4.5/5 Finally we decided it was our duty to sample the Pad Thai. We got it with Chicken and it was good, but probably the area that Thai Sweet Basil needs to work on the most. I asked them not to make it too spicy since that lady doesn't like spicy food...that may have thrown them off. We generally like our PT sweet and that was what we felt was missing here. 3.75/5 for my taste buds. Overall everything went so well, we would come back and just get other dishes than the Pad Thai...which is okay. That said, I think the should consider adding more sugar to the dish, which most Americans seem to love. I would say the fair rating is 4.5 factoring for everything including a very fair price for lunch...far cheaper than a lot of Thai places... It was well under $50 before tax and tip for 3 entrees and drinks. We will definitely back!!! read more

I do love this place for my noodle dishes but it's quite an back and forth with them to give us proper noodle portions. If noodles are good portion they skimp on veggies and shrimp. Just 4 shrimp for additional $5 dollars with removing other proteins seems ridiculous. Restaurant experience should be pleasant and not a lot of back n forth with them to do justice to noodle dishes. Noodle dish without much noodles in them doesn't make sense. read more

Beware : Thai Sweet Basil - Andover is charging 3% service fees on take out. There was no mention while ordering nor anything posted in rest. While picking up. When i called after i saw reaching at home the receipt she had no answer on why 3%.service fee was charged. So just letting everyone know to check their receipts for take out of going there . Just putting in charge to get extra money with no explanation. Food was also decent nothing good enough to let go of the literal scamming. Never again. read more

Our daughter goes to boarding school nearby and we are visiting from Rhode Island for Family Weekend. There aren't very many dining options as we are allowed to travel within the city limits. That said, we decided to come here hoping for friendly service at a convenient location. I gave this restaurant 4 stars because our expectations were met. There's a more popular, fancier Thai restaurant closer to the school, but it's usually very crowded and the host and receptionist were unwelcoming on 2 occasions we attempted to dine in. Boo. The food at Thai Sweet Basil is okay, if you're into bland homestyle foods. The meals will satisfy your hunger, but if you crave outstanding Thai food you will probably be disappointed. This place used to be my favorite Thai when I was living in the area. Coming back after a few years, I was happy it was still there. I don't know what happened, but my memories in taste and presentation were much better than was I experienced now. Don't get me wrong; the food was good, but not "I have to go back"-good anymore. The chicken coconut soup was rather watery, crab rangoon overly battered and fried. Chicken skewers with peanut sauce were good, though. The entree that I shared with my wife was good but poorly presented. Why throw the broccoli as a big junk on it instead of doing something amazing to it as Thai restaurants do to carrots and other garnish? What definitely didn't change was the friendly staff and the delicious Thai ice tea. read more

I eat here more often than I'd like to admit. It is consistently good and never too busy. I think most people do takeout. This place has the best Thai food I've tried so far; I like the massaman curry, all the little soups on the menu, the yum yum noodle soup and the papaya salad. read more

If you are looking for slap you in the face flavor this may not be the spot. I recently tried their pad thais, it was a lot of food for a fair price, but it was a very mild flavor. MID! I tasted all four and thought my beef & broccoli was the best...and I ate it all and the better part of the rice container that we ordered. Take out sometimes leaves the food a bit less tasty than if eating it fresh and hot. I'd be up for trying this place again but dinning in instead. The main problem with this once terrific Thai spot is its inconsistency. We tend to order a handful of favorite dishes over and over again. Sometimes the dishes are excellent, other times subpar. The latest example sums it up: we ordered 2 identical vegetable crazy noodle dishes .i repeat: we ordered 2 of the same dish. One came with plenty of noodles and was mildly spiced. The second had plenty of vegetables, virtually no noodles at all and was very spicy. WTF!? when they get it right, it's GREAT. But you never know. I give up! read more

In early March, we stopped in Thai Sweet Basil, Andover on a Saturday evening following an afternoon full of activities. Having worked up an appetite, we were pleasantly greeted and sat at a comfortable table for two. With still and sparkling water served at request, we also ordered main courses. The Salmon was beautifully grilled and served with vegetables. The full portion size even made for lunch the next day. They prepared it less spicy hot than normal for palate that prefers less spice and heat. Meanwhile, the hot basil chicken dish provided the right amount of chili heat to accompany the chicken and vegetables. A Thai staple that was done right. I stopped at Thai Sweet Basil on my way back to NYC from MA and WOW! It was a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant wasn't too packed, but the service was still a little slow. The food did come out super hot so I'm assuming that's what took so long. I ordered the calamari, spring rolls, and vegetable/tofu basil fried rice and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I can't wait to come back again whenever I'm in the area. I had the coconut ice cream for dessert and the ice cream itself was ok. They didn't have any of the other seasonal flavors, which was disappointing. The ice cream is also a sundae with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, etc. and I honestly think it's better without all the extra toppings. The food here definitely deserves 5 stars. I'm docking a star due to the slow service and the limited dessert menu. read more

Only seeing one other group dining and one group waiting, I didn't really want to eat there, but we went anyway. The food was very very good, and came out quite quickly. I have tried this place twice. The first time I got a takeout and ordered the fresh basil roll and mango cucumber salad. Both were up to the mark on flavor and healthy. The roll had fresh vegetables and the peanut sauce was nice. The salad was flavorful and spicy! The second time we dined in and the place was nice and clean. We ordered TSB's platter for two which had two pieces each of 6 appetizers on their menu. It was a delightful spread and all items stood out. We also ordered the Chicken Pik King curry which resembled the red curry in flavor and was delicious as well. I would love to order other things on the menu! read more

I ordered through Uber Eats. Worst experience of my life. They do not use Uber eats drivers, they use their own drivers so they can make more money. In turn I waited over 2.5 hours for my food. I called the store and they said that the driver was busy and I just had to wait then when I started to speak they hung up on me. I then called a second time 40 minutes later and was hung up on again. For context I live less than 15 minutes away and ordered two items. Probably the worst service I've experienced in my life. I was surprised to find a Thai restaurant in Andover with pretty good reviews so had to come for a visit. And true to Yelp, it was the real deal. It's good to see there was authentic Thai food in MA! We had Massaman Curry, Pad See Ew, Pad Thai and a fried rice dish. All were very good. The decor was bright and clean. The only area of improvement is the service. Our server was kind of weird and didn't like it when we asked her questions about popular items on the menu or even subsequent requests for chopsticks etc. Maybe it was an offer day for her, she was quite odd for a server.
