Me and my husband always come back to this place, amazing couple running it. The food is amazing and the place is never packed 10/10.

We drove by a few packed waterfront restaurants on our way here and this place had only one occupied table. Ordered a few apps and then the crispy tamarind duck and my god, what a lovely dish. Why this place didnt have more visitors i do not understand- plenty of spice options, flavorful food, a good time! It was a tad stuffy, felt like no AC or ventilation, but the food was so good it was a non issue. Try it out! read more

Last Saturday I was about to go to Rockport...my friend up in Littleton who was going to meet me someplace along the way called and said 128 at that time was a parking lot. So I went and got him and we head for Portland Maine...495 at 1:45 PM was also a parking lot. So we end up in Salisbury and I was hungry by now! So we drive by this little spot and decide to take a shot. I told my friend as I was driving in that thing about Thai places is that because they have probably been in the country for a few decades at most their cuisine tends to be pretty close to the real thing. Basically with Chinese food, the longer the owner has been living in the US the less authentic the food! Anyways we ordered some basic dishes and the Pad Thai was ok, my Mango spring rolls was pretty good. My ex's dish was fair too. Lemonade was quite nice too! If 10/5 stars were an option, Mapow would get it. This place is a hidden gem in Salisbury, just over the Route 1 bridge From Newburyport. Everything on the menu is fantastic; flavors are complex and terrific and ingredients so fresh! Meals are cooked from scratch and made individually, you really taste the difference here. My favorite comfort food here is the Crazy Noodles, extra spicy. Try Mango Rolls for appetizer - bursting with fresh flavors and herbs. Yum! read more

Horrible experience. Would not recommend at all. The service was extremely poor. The servers took probably over 30 minutes before giving us a pen and paper to write our own orders on. It wasnt extremely busy. Then when we finally got the food another 30 minutes later, the crab curry I had was the soggiest, most disgusting food I have ever had at a restaurant. Could not finish it to be honest. My girlfriend got the see you noodles and they smelled rotten and did not taste that great either. Now as we got home, she threw up immediately as we both still have the bad tastes in our mouth. I wish i had some good things to say but I dont. WARNING: RIPOFF!!! The quality of the food is just ok. I would not even complain about that if I wasn't being ripped off. Just average sushi, not the best I've had but it would probably do in a pinch. However, the size of the sushi is the biggest RIPOFF I have EVER experienced. Check out my pictures. I put a quarter in the pictures for size. I spent $43. FORTY THREE DOLLARS. I kind of thought something was off when she handed me one small white bag when I picked up my order. I checked it when I got in my car, because I thought there had to be something missing from the order. Nope, it was all there, just VERY small. I was so upset. We were very happy with our experience at Mapow last night. The service was excellent, the decor is really tasteful, and the food was fantastic. We had both sushi and Thai food, and both were excellent. I didn't order anything out if the ordinary for sushi, they had a dinner special which was three types of rolls and miso soup, for $ 16.95, which seemed pretty reasonable to me. The rolls were fresh, quickly prepared, and arrived in a boat. You gotta love any food that shows up in a boat! My dining partner had the massaman curry (he asked for spicy and it certainly was hot!), and it was delicious and fresh and served super quick. We will definitely go back here again. read more

Criminally low score, it is cheap, good portion, fresh ingredients, authentic and friendly.

I've been to this place more times that I can count, I love it all. The food is always amazing, I highly recommend the Salisbury Roll, it's almost the only thing I order, but all the food I have found to be tasty and exactly as I ordered. I know the service can be a little lacking, but it's a small family business, I always cut them slack, especially because the food is so good. read more

My wife and I got take-out from here tonight, and loved the food. I had the basil chicken and she had the bangkok dicey, both which had really wonderful flavor and fresh taste. So why the three stars? I don't think I've ever, in my life, gotten such a small portion at an Asian restaurant. And unfortunately, the prices were not really low enough to warrant that. In short, this place is a hidden gem and I am sad I didn't find it sooner. It has become one of my favorites among the many quality restaurants in the Newburyport/Portsmouth area. Despite its location in a strip mall, the interior is very warm and cozy and the food is fantastic--even among the best Thai this food snob has ever had (especially the curries). They also serve the only quality sushi within a half hour (fabulously excellent, and some of the best veggie sushi I've ever had!), but be prepared to pay more for the fish than you would elsewhere. This is an especially great place for "comfort foods," when you've had a long day or you're getting over that cold, when you can't decide where to go or you just want to be somewhere simple and comfortable where you can be sure you will enjoy what they cook for you. The owners and wait staff are very kind and attentive, always making sure you have everything you could want, and they are truly invested in creating an enjoyable experience. My wife loves the sushi and I tend to go for the Thai -- the food is always fresh and well prepared, the staff is freindly and attentive and don't seem to mind when we sit there for hours. Not sure why this place has such high yelp ratings. I came here for lunch after visiting Plum Island. The atmosphere is quite nice, there are lots of traditional Thai decorations and other odds and ends in glass cabinets so plenty of things to look at while you wait for your order to arrive. There's also a sushi bar and sushi chef which I didn't try out. Service was quite good as well. Unfortunately, the food was not great. If you've had good Thai food before, this simply doesn't make the cut. We ordered steamed muscles. The bulk of the ones I ate were okay but I bit into one that was not fresh and it tasted so gross I had to spit it out. I'm just glad I didn't get sick from it! Overall, so-so tasting food that is over-priced for what it is. Will be avoiding this place if I am ever in the area again! read more

We got take out from here one day last week when dinner took a wrong turn at home. The pork chops went in the trash and we went to check out this place. I had sushi, of course my standard spicy tuna, but also sweet potato maki and salmon sushi. The prices were a little on the high side, but the fish was good quality. There's not another sushi place around for miles so I was REALLY happy to find someplace in the area with decent fish. My boyfriend had a beef dinner dish. While the food was good, we were disappointed with the portion size and ESPECIALLY compared to the prices. Not to mention that dinner didn't come with rice. Others waiting in the restaurant for take out were raving about the Thai. We were happy with the food, but the prices are a little too high. Perhaps will stick on the lunch list. P.S. Mapow! Yes, you are the tastiest but you are also the most expensive and the smallest portion providing of all Thai places North of Boston. It takes FOREVER to get your order. You are always understaffed but I know the wait is really due to the preparation that is being done with care and to order. So, I will continue to eat here. I love it. I went here today for lunch. The ambiance is nice and they had some great music quietly playing in the background. The lunch menus have lots of pen and pencil corrections to them. I ordered a spicy seafood mix that came with about 3 shrimp, 3 mussels and 3 slices of scallop. Not a very big portion for lunch. The food was kind of bland and not very spicy. My wifes Red chicken curry had about 3 pieces of chicken and was a very small portion too. We may come back for dinner, but we left lunch still hungry. read more

I don't know where to start! The food was as fresh as it gets and the staff was wonderful! I think I let myself get used to eating in restaurants that have heat lamps that I forgot what really hot, fresh food was like! Everything we received was smokin' hot and very fresh! The softshell crab was the best I've ever had, the vegetable tempura was good, not a huge fan of the dipping sauce, but the veggies were so good it didn't matter! The sushi was wonderful! there were four of us so we ordered about 6 different rolls and they were all great! The spider roll was a little disappointing as it wasn't rolled tight enough and fell apart, but all of the fish and veggies were incredibly fresh! Having just opened this spring, Mapow is the best kept secret in the Newburyport area. Until word gets out that there's amazing Thai food to be had here. Just over the bridge from Route 1, Newburyport and tucked into a strip mall near a donut shop in Salisbury, Mapow is the star of it's humble surroundings. We've been for lunch three times and are already "regulars". The owner and staff are very welcoming, the decor is lovely and the food is...addictive. Having had many home cooked Asian meals I can say that this is the real deal - fresh home-cooked style food where flavor comes from perfect melding of ingredients- spice, condiment, broth, not from sodium and grease. We had Pad Thai, which was perfectly prepared and delicious, the same for the melt-in-your-mouth-tender Beef Satay with dipping sauces. Chicken cashew was tender and flavorful, with both chicken and vegetables cooked to perfection. Siam Fried Rice is a must have. It has a nutty, browned buttery flavor that elevated it to our-fave-rice-ever status. We'll always have to get this one. The menu has plenty of variety for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Truthfully, we love these dishes so much we'll have trouble trying new things. As soon as we finish our meal we find ourselves already planning our next visit. The pleasant owner mentioned he has just secured a liquor license and license to serve sushi. I'm confident that sushi fans will find the same careful preparation and ideal blend of flavors as in the hot dishes. Prices are very reasonable, and portions ample. read more

Avoid if you're looking for a new sushi place We tried this place for dinner tonight-my bfs bday dinner and it was a terrible experience. We're still a little nervous we might get sick. We are sushi lovers-and maybe it was our mistake getting sushi here. Ordered limeade (tasted good) although my glass had black stuff (presumably food) caked all over. Not sure how waiter didnt see it-we pointed it out to him and he got us another. Regardless-nasty and lack of attention to detail. We had soft shell crab app (decent), golden bags (not pleasant/odd flavor combinations), chicken pad thai (bf said was decent), and sushi--salmon roll (cream cheese tasted off), spicy tuna roll (rice was dry and overcooked /I kept feeling like I was chewing little bones or something). Bf has also ordered two salmon sashimi's and the waiter totally spaced on it. By the time he came back to the table 30 minutes later (he disappeared into the kitchen and there were NO other wait staff) we just wanted to leave. I lived in Boston for the last 15-years and after moving up here I have been dying to find great sushi close by to Newburyport and am so happy to have found Mapow. I would put their food quality and execution on par with JP Seafood in Boston. Not quite on the gourmet level as some of the top tier restaurants. However, if your looking for well priced, fresh quality, perfectly prepared sushi with a wide selection to choose from then look no further. Just tried this. Ordered See You with tofu instead of chicken and shrimp. They said this was no problem. We confirmed that this was with tofu 2 or 3 times. Additionally ordered Tofu Pad Thai. When I went to pick up the order, they had made the See You with chicken. When I apologetically said I had ordered tofu, the hostess was very sweet and went back and had another one made for me before I could ask. We had a discussion about how I don't eat meat. Went home, dug in, and was enjoying my dish until I found a large piece of chicken. Closer inspection showed that all the noodles where covered in chicken. They had essentially picked out the chicken strips and thrown in tofu. I wasn't just "in the mood" for tofu, my body can't process meat. When you order something, correct the order in person, and have a whole convo about your dietary restrictions, you expect not to have your noodles coated in an ingredient you expressly requested not be in there. If they had a problem making a dish without chicken, they should have told me it was not possible. An expectation was set and not met. Plant based diets--steer clear. I am incredibly disappointed. Also worth noting that there was barely half a cup of cooked noddles in my dish. Edit://Called back and confirmed that they had just "picked out" the chicken. I have eaten at many Thai food restaurants and lived in Thailand for a year. Mapow is thouroughly dissapointing on all levels. -overpriced -shitty food -worst som tam I've ever had -worst tom yum goong ive ever had (watery, shitty, 5 mushroom pieces, 2 frozen/microwaved shrimp) around $4 I can't comment on the sushi as it was too expensive to try. The only good thing we ate were the crab rangoons. very good. but they were around $6 for 6 small rangoons. My friend got some curry and says "reheated, rubbery, pork, claiming to be wildboar, too small of a portion to fill up a starving thai child, and did not come with rice, we were tricked into paying extra for rice" the bill came to $33 for two people with no drinks other than free water and we were still hungry afterwards. dont go to this place unless you are rich and have a little baby stomach and love to put mediocre meats in your mouth. and even if your not eating meat the food still tastes like a nutsack. and review writer Conrad A you are full of shit, i'm calling you out right now youve probably never even eaten at this place and are doing the owners a favor by writing a review. The only reason I'm leaving one star is because I can't leave 0 stars. To start, the portions are very small, and their price exceeded the value. We arrived early and saw the ONLY two people working go in. All of the food tasted at least a day old. They were out of one of the most popular items on the menu. We ordered chicken satay and the chicken was very low quality and tasted off. The fish in the sushi tasted bland and not very fresh. The broth in the sweet and sour chicken was cold, and no part of it tasted like sweet nor sour. Additionally, we ordered sticky rice as a side, and it came still wrapped in the cheap plastic. The quality of the rice reminded me of tire rubber, and it solidified when put in soy sause. The pad thai was greasy and flavorless. The curry tasted like it was past its expiration date. I would not recommend going to this restaurant unless you are looking for over priced poor quality food. read more

The worst sushi/sashimi you will EVER be served!! We have never eaten at a worse restaurant! The service was horrible and the food was worse....if that's possible. The fish was miniscule, old, dried on the edges. The Wasabi ball was the size of a small marble and hard and crusty like it was rolled a few months earlier. We spent 50 minutes after ordering before the garbage was put in front of us. We should have walked out after the first bite. But we are civilized people. We spent $140. We did not tip. The BEST Thai food for miles. The portions are a bit smaller than most Thai/Chinese/Japanese restaurants, but only because the quality is so superior. All the rice dishes are delicious, though the Siam is my personal favorite. The beef is actually lean and juicy instead of chewy, dry, or stringy. The chicken is fresh and only a few dishes are breaded and deep fried - which is a healthier bonus. If you're going to any restaurant of Eastern food, Ma Pow is the best around for superior quality and taste. If you're looking for typical greasy deep fried food, you should try elsewhere. read more

The thai dishes here taste like reheated takeout. The maki rolls are average (we had one good one- the Salisbury roll). The whole place smelled like cleaning product, and alas- the ginger served with the rolls tasted of ammonia. After that one terrible piece, I couldn't rid my mouth of the taste after several forkfuls of rice. GRUESOME! The service is atrocious- completely lackluster to the point of being rude. When we left (one of two tables filled on a Saturday night), the waiter was at the stand by the door counting money. We said goodnight and he mumbled back without looking up from the money. A quaint Thai restaurant in a location where you'd never expect one. I was pleasantly surprised by the range of menu options and the freshness of the ingredients. Friendly service and Thai iced tea made the meal that much sweeter. I can happily recommend the garlic shrimp. read more
