I live locally and get Thai takeout almost every Friday night and have done so for 10 plus years. I decided to change it up and try this establishment. It took 80 minutes to get takeout from a half full restaurant. The food was cold and average at best. I could not more strongly suggest tying anywhere else. read more

Stopped by yesterday after a long hiatus. Ordered some of our favorites for take-out - FRESH Summer Rolls with Shrimp and fresh basil - and they included their 3 sauces as well - so glad because we enjoy all of them. Because they're so fresh, always the 1st we eat when home, along with Golden Bags, a family favorite - crispy, delicate and yummy!!! Because we love leftovers, the Drunken Noodles are today's lunch and just great - generous with the shrimp, chicken, noodles and lightly seasoned....not swimming in liquid. We got a large takeout order from here when visiting my parents in Rowley. This place is a hidden gem! We ordered chicken satay, steamed shrimp shumai (some of the best I've ever had), crab Rangoon (seems like it was homemade, not food-service quality), scallion pancake, fresh roll, drunken noodle, pad Thai, basil fried rice, and Thai iced tea. At first, when we opened the noodle dishes, I was disappointed because they were all super light looking. I'm used to drunken noodle and pad Thai being darker, but they ended up being so delicious!! My only criticism is that the Thai iced tea was way too sweet and all the dishes had a lot of vegetables. The vegetables were fresh and delicious, but I would have preferred more noodles. I realize some people would want all those veggies though. Would absolutely order from here again! I'm so happy to have found great Thai food again in Mass, since my all time favorite place has closed. read more

Food is so good!!! The shrimp scampi is my all time favorite, but pretty much everything there is delicious. The service is wonderful and the people are super friendly, and the ambiance is great! I usually get sat in this little window seat with a bench/couch and there are flowers and candles on every table, it's gorgeous in there! Well this is my go to but tonight's take out meal was very disappointing. One meal was only half full. Where's the beef came to mind. The crispy pad Thai was basically plain dry noodles in about half the dish. Won't be fighting over those leftovers. Perhaps a different cook. Maybe the b team was on. My favorite place for Thai food - hands down! I have yet to order a dish that hasn't been fresh, delicious, and consistent. Been going there for over 10 years - same staff. They are always friendly and helpful. Most of the time we order takeout, but there are about a dozen or so tables - not crowded, very cozy and quiet. I have been coming to the Royal Orchid for several years, primarily for takeout. The dining area is always lovely and clean. The food is consistently good, never greasy or too salted. The crab rangoons are crispy and actually have crab in them. The vegetables are bright , fresh and delicious, never mushy and over cooked, I believe they are locally sourced. The portion size is not the same as your average Chinese restaurant, but you are getting higher quality food. Higher quality wins out over quantity for me every time. Although, I think you get enough in one pad thai order to feed three people! Some reviewers had said it's not "authentic Thai ". Unfortunately I've never been to Thailand so I wouldn't know, but I think it's plenty authentic for the average American palate. Since it's not all prepared food if you want extra spice, you would only have to ask, I'm sure they would be happy to accommodate. Their menu is extensive and varied. Service is great, the ambiance is white tablecloth but casual. I like martinis, I believe that's where I had my first Lychee martini which was really interesting. My kids love the Pad Thai, and I prefer the red curry dishes. You can specify the number of stars, 1-5, in which 2 is the American default. Not going to lie, I've had better curry. I'd passed by it once or twice but because the restaurant is tucked inside a strip plaza on the back entrance of the so-called Rowley Mall (more like a larger strip plaza with Market Basket, TJ Maxx, etc), it never caught my eye before. My girlfriend and I went in for lunch and we ordered combination specials; I had a chicken/beef/shrimp combo with numerous vegetables and pik-pow sauce, and she had a red curry offering with scallops. (You can choose the type of sauce, curry or other, and also whether you want a particular seafood, chicken, beef, or pork.) Each lunch special came with pork dumplings, crispy vegetable egg rolls, and rice. You can order brown rice, if you prefer, as I do and did. The food also comes out quick! Their meals are prepared to order, always fresh and cooked to your specific liking. My favorite is their spicy pad thai adding both chicken & shrimp, 2 star spicy. Their spicy tum yum soup is fabulous (our family swears it has healing properties so when any of us are feeling under the weather, a large order of Royal Orchid's is brought home to help bring back wellness!). My husband & son love their chicken basil fried rice, 3 star spicy, along w/an order of pan fried dumplings. I enjoy their cold seafood salad, always fresh & which fabulously tingles the taste buds! My family has been going to Royal Orchid since it opened, when it was the first and only Thai restaurant in the area. The owner, Joy, has literally watched my children grow up. She would always have some candy for them when they came with me to pickup takeout. We mostly do takeout but eating in the dining room is actually a really nice experience. Nice ambiance and great service. Their drinks are really good as well, especially the Mai Tai. The food has remained consistently good after all these years. We've been here for take out several times since moving to the area. Another poster said it correctly, a "solid meh" that's somewhere between a 2 and a 3. The appetizers we've had were definitely at to below average. The crab rangoon were very "crabby" tasting though. The entrees are incredibly average and are not well done. I am used to a nice, dark pad thai that's browned from the pan frying, the tamarind, and the fish sauce. The Royal Orchid pad thai is practically white... I have no idea what they are putting in there, but it's certainly not what I expected or wanted. I'd rather buy the correct ingredients and make it at home, or drive further to a better restaurant. We also had the mango fried rice... it was terrible. Overcooked rice, mango pieces that were very clearly not fresh, overpowering strong, mostly raw onion. At this point we've given it too many chances and we'll just take our business elsewhere. read more

I'm thinking the 2 stars is a bit harsh, but I do give Royal Orchid a solid "Meh". My wife would probably give it a 3. We've been here a couple times in the past. Its pretty typical Thai food. Today's drinks - Margarita and Long Island Ice Tea - were good. The appetizer platter was pretty much all deep fried, so it was a bit greasy but also good. Our main courses were between fair and poor. I got the Mango Fried Rice and my wife got Mango Curry with white rice. We guessed the mangos were canned as they were very mushy. I ate 1 and decided to skip the rest. Our rice - both white and fried - were both very mushy as well. My wife called it a paste. The flavors were good, but I couldn't get past the mush. Our waitress was very nice, but needs a little work as a waitress. I had an empty drink on the table for about 15 minutes before the manager noticed and asked if I'd like something else. In the past I've had the Pad Thai which was good and a Thai chicken noodle soup which was pretty flavor less. I was hoping for something like Pho, but was disappointed. Given the nearly $100 check for the 2 of us, I expected a little better quality. read more

The Mango Curry and Mango Fried rice were boring and both had theEXACT same overcooked chicken plus shrimp/veg/pineapple/mango base then topped with curry sauce or tossed with brown rice and no sauce. Wonderful Thai food with lots of vegetarian options and fantastic service. My wife and I have been enjoying Royal Orchid for 5+ years. The staff is always very attentive and makes us feel welcome. They even know our favorite drinks! And you can't go wrong with the fresh dishes. My favorite dishes are the Seafood Pik Pow and the Panang Curry Duck. I always plan to eat half and save the rest for lunch, but they are so good I never have anything left over. The chef is a master at cooking the food perfectly. The every sauce has just right amount of flavor and spice which takes each dish to the next level. My wife is a vegetarian. She fell in love with the vegetarian Masaman curry with Tofu and extra veggies a few years ago and never looked back. Unlike me, she is self disciplined and enjoys it for dinner and lunch the next day. Although this is not a unique dish, the sauce is amazing and stands out from other restaurants. Per the other reviews, Royal Orchid is not known for their fried appetizers. They are known for their fresh dishes executed perfectly with amazing sauces. All of which can be customize to your taste. I was looking for a good Thai place to take my father this past weekend and saw the reviews on here so decided this is where we'd go. Well, I was very impressed. My Dad is handicapped so they saw me wheeling him toward the door and came out, opened it, and held it until we got in. That's an A+ in my book. It wasn't that busy but it was around 2p.m. on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered the Royal Orchid Special Pineapple which came with two dumplings and spring roll for $7.95 and an order of Pad Thai which I think was $6.95 but for $1 more we got another order of dumplings and spring rolls with it. I'm not usually a dumpling fan, but these were little and very tasty. The spring rolls were a little different than what I'm used to, but still yummy! The pad Thai was some of the best I've ever tasted. The Pineapple dish was tasty and the veggies crisp and fresh. The service was wonderful. "Couple more minutes guys" I ordered a take out meal, something fairly simple. Chicken pad thai and steamed dumplings. On the phone I was told 15 minutes. I arrived after 20. I was then forgotten about and made to wait an additional 45 minutes. Really!? I get busy. I just fail to understand how a simple noodle dish takes over an hour to deliver. Maybe I'm just super annoyed at this point and will up this rating later, the food is good. I've had it a couple times and have returned since. However, a wait like that feels unacceptable to me. Went for lunch on a Saturday with my 14 & 16 year old children. Staff was super friendly and attentive. Drinks came with straw wrapper roses on the straws. Decor was beautiful and the restaurant warm and cozy. We had an appetizer and 3 dishes. Pad Thai, Pad See Yew and Drunken Noodle. All were rich in their respective flavors and more than we could eat.
