    Crispy pad Thai with shrimp
    Lena Y.

My family and I got carry out for dinner. I generally get pad Thai but this time I tried the crispy pad Thai with shrimp. Flavor explosion with the first bite and mix of sweet & savory.

We all gos our drinks and placed our orders in and my daughter and mother in law got their food. Papaya salad and chicken skin. The chicken skin was amazing especially with the sauce. Really enjoyed the sticky rice which looks hard but isn't. I ordered the Pad Kra Pao with pork but Pho came in and I told them we didn't ordered that. Then an order of crab Rangoons came which we didn't order and we list let it sit on our table and about 10 min went by and we decided to eat it since I was getting hungry. I sat there for about an hour waiting for my food then the owner came out to show me what she wrote down and we crossed everything off that came then she said it would be coming out. Another 20 min pass and they deliver my food which was wrong again lol... I laughed it off because I know they're trying but I didn't send it back since I was getting hangry. All the food was great, they just need to get a better system from taking orders and getting those orders to the chef and brining the items to the correct table. To top it off, she gave us our recipe and that was all wrong as well. Like I said the food is amazing just getting what you ordered was the hard part. I hope to give this place a try but not sure yet.

Excellent Thai street food and dim sum at Bangkok Street Thai Kitchen in Portsmouth!…read more The inside is kept nice and cool during a hot summer's day with rather dim lighting, so doing my Yelp thing and shooting photos required two phones. One for light, and the other took the pictures...! I ordered the pork and shrimp shumai, which arrived with a nice soy based sauce, crispy garlic, and fresh cilantro. The wrappers were delicate and the filling well-seasoned. When I asked about egg fried rice with Lap Cheong (sweet Chinese sausage), the kitchen prepared it even though it is not listed on the menu. It turned out to be one of the best versions I have had, and my server Arisa mentioned it is also a favorite of hers and her husband's. The Pad Kee Mao with beef (Nua) was flavorful, with wide rice noodles, fresh basil, and vegetables cooked to the right texture. The added bamboo shoots aren't normally on that dish, but a welcome addition here. Arisa was an outstanding server. She was knowledgeable, engaging, and happy to talk about Thai food traditions and family memories. The conversation made the meal more enjoyable. The restaurant's story about its Thai-Chinese roots on Charoen Krung Road comes through in both the menu and the service. Everything I tried was delicious. Highly recommend a visit if you are looking for quality Thai food and dim sum in the Portsmouth area.

The word that comes to mind when I think of the meal was genuinely savory across many flavor profiles. None of the dishes came out particularly spicy hot. The Larb Gai was tangy with the lime coming through and served with sticky rice. Absolutely delicious. The Penang curry was rich and full of both protein and veggies. We got it with white rice and the curry was so tasty with the peanut flavor present. The Tom Yum soup was among the best we have ever had, with the right amount of rich flavors, saltiness, and slightest bit of hot pepper. The mushrooms absorb the flavor and are so good! We started with Paradise Beef (it comes with 4 strips, but we ate two before I took the picture). It's like a cross between beef jerky and satay, with a flavor that boasts tangy and a hint of sweetness, emboldened by the sweet and sour sauce. This was something we ordered just because the description was interesting and it was a wonderful way to start the meal! The atmosphere is classic with a modern flair and extremely clean. The service was pleasant, prompt, friendly, and natural. We found street parking, which was convenient. Overall, this is hidden gem. We will gladly return!

Hadn't been here in a few years so decided to check back in recently. My wife and I dined in…read more Food was as tasty as I remembered, but some issues remained that would prevent me from visiting more regularly. My main gripe was with the green curry (my favorite Thai food): I asked for it "extra spicy". The waitress then said, "okay, so 3 spicy, medium?" And I said, "no, extra spicy. As many spicy as you can make it, I like it very hot". Well, the dish arrived and it was pretty mild. The curry also didn't have a lot to it. Green curry normally has a lot of vegetables, but there were maybe 1 or 2 tiny pieces of bell pepper, a few peas and green beans, but most of the vegetable was the bambo shoots. I'd like to see more "green" in my green curry. The amount of chicken was very weak too, especially for a $17 dish. So overall, the portion was small, at least for a full grown man like me who wasn't about to shell out for a bunch of appetizers on a weeknight. They normally include white rice with the curry dishes, but I remembered that it's always a pretty weak portion, especially considering this is what you need to make the curry dish more substantial in the absence of other ingredients as mentioned above. Instead of ordering an extra white rice, I decided this time to order a side of the sticky rice. Big mistake as it was so tough that I couldn't even get my fork in it. I've had sticky rice before but never had to cut it with a knife. I had planned to integrate it with my green curry but it was obviously a poor choice for that. Not worth the $4, despite the fancy little box it was presented in. My wife's mango fried rice was overall more worthwhile as it seemed more substantial and had a nice flavor. She saved about half of it, which was a pretty good amount for leftover. However, they came back out with a tiny box that made us suspect that they didn't really package all of it. Lastly, we didn't order anything with uncooked greens given the cyclosporiasis outbreak that's currently all over the news. Somehow, I ended up with a piece of lettuce on the table (perhaps stuck to the bottom of one of the dishes - not sure if that's a dishwashing issue or if there's just pieces of lettuce sitting around the kitchen). So that was a bit off-putting. Still, overall this is better than some of the Thai places I've been to. If you go, try some of the iced tea flavors like mango or ginger jasmine - very sweet but in a good way.

I had a very pleasant lunch yesterday. Ordered seafood drunken noodles. I was served a very generous and delicious plate of noodles, veggies, squid, shrimp and scallops. I enjoyed it, but found it somewhat less flavorful than I would have liked. Possibly catering to a mostly Caucasian clientele, for my taste it probably could have used more fish sauce, My thoughts only, They have an expansive Thai menu which I look forward to sampling over the coming months. It is on the more expensive side, which is likely justified by a large portion size and fresh ingredients and ever increasing national prices. This is a very stylish restaurant inside with a clean elegant decor. Very suitable for a special meal. Service was fast and friendly, beautiful clean bathrooms and lots of off street parking. I felt like two of the employees were hovering over me as I waited which was uncomfortable. They asked me more than once if I wanted to order before my friend arrived. We were given the check before we were finished. We were planning to order another round of drinks but decided not to based on this. Once we paid one of the employees was hovering over us waiting for us to leave so she could clean the table. I'd be more understanding of this if it was crowded and people were waiting to dine in, but it wasn't that busy. I also noticed none of the other tables got the same treatment as us. No idea why that is but it left a sour taste in my mouth figuratively speaking. However the food and drinks were delicious as always so at least there's that. I've had better service sitting at the bar so if I decide to dine in again I think I'll stick to that.
