My friend and I stopped by Thai Star BBQ for lunch. McKinley was under construction the last time I visited this area. The traffic was so bad then that I avoided this area for several months. I suspectl business of all shops in this area suffered greatly during that time. Star BBQ seems to me a typical Thai restaurant, not much to do with BBQ. It does offer lunch specials during weekdays. I was in the mood for Thai noodles so I ordered a pad kee mow as it's the only one marked with a chili pepper. I asked them to make it "Thai hot" but it was only mild spicy when it came out. The place was cozy, has a good vibe. Service here are good here. I'll keep Star BBQ on the list to consider in the future. read more

I came by this place because I was next to a basketball gym. The food service was really good and came out fast . I love all my dishes i ordere . Thai tea was refreshing and I asked for less sweet. The food tastes really amazing.And the pricing is really good.They have daily lunch specials around fifteen dollars a meal. The food was perfect taste not too salty.And not too oily. Felt like curry and loved that this place had more choices to select from than I usually see. My son got his usual yellow curry, but I decided to be adventurous and try something new. Had the Massaman Curry with shrimp, loved it! I asked for mild but it still had a little kick to it. Comes with peanuts so beware if you have an allergy. Our server, Sara, was friendly and attentive. I have tried MANY thai restaurants. Second one in Riverside and it was not good. I order pad see ew for pick up. Flavor was not it. It honestly had a weird aftertaste. I'm not sure if the meat was old. I got beef and it is an extra $1 and it was dry and taste old.. It was hardly edible. I just ate all the broccoli and only ate some because I spent $20 on it but I threw away more than half away. For one, it is made with regular broccoli and not chinese broccoli. That should've been the giveaway that it most likely wouldn't taste traditional. I had my partner pick it up for me and told him to ask for crushed pepper a few pickled jalapeños but they said they couldn't give anymore. Lame. The pickled jalapeños made it a little better but i didn't have enough of it. I just gave two stars for effort but unfortunately won't be returning. read more

I came to eat here yesterday during lunch time :) The staff are attentive, sweet, soft-spoken, and friendly! The restaurant is beautiful! We ordered 2 lunch specials and a yellow curry for Togo. The portions were excellent! The food was delicious and will come back again! The staff that took care of us even said "Thank you" in our language, I was surprised she knew we were Korean ! I always enjoy coming here for lunch and dinner. We are always greeted and seated right away. There seems to only be one person working the floor but she doesn't miss a beat. She is very friendly and very attentive. There is nothing special about the decor, it looks old and could use some updating, but the food is delicious and that's why I go. The Thai iced tea was the beginning of a delicious dinner. Followed by an appetizer of dumplings. So yummy. My friend and I both ordered the pad Thai chicken, so flavorful and couldn't get enough! She also ordered a plate of vegetables with tofu and she was in heaven. Finally for dessert I ordered the sweet sticky rice with Mango, omg , sooooo good I loved it!! No pictures unfortunately but I promise the food was so good. Service was good, server was nice and food came quick. It was a quiet restaurant with lots of privacy. The small lady who owns this restaurant is so sweet every time, a bit slow to get to the register but totally understandable. I'd say this is a hole in the wall place bc of its location but delicious food! I order Thai Yellow Curry (lunch special) at least once per week for lunch. The pricing isn't my favorite - you'd expect lunch special to be less than $15 after tax but what can a girl say? We're in inflation. The eggrolls are DELICIOUS, I could eat 100. My only dislike is that every time I order lunch special and open the container, there's a considerable gap from the lid to the food. For $15+, I really expect my food container to be full. The pictures on here are deceiving, this $16.95 "seafood salad" has a few small pieces of dry fried fish, 2 muscles, 3 small pieces of shrimp, 1 tiny imitation crab pieces, and 2 skimpy pieces of squid. I have never had such a pathetic "seafood salad" in my life. The pictures of their seafood salad is from 6 years ago and definitely not a representation of what it really looks like. I have order way better seafood salads from other Thai places and I will stick to those other places... As for the wonton wrapped shrimp costing me $12.95, another pathetic plate. It came with 6 small shrimp wrapped with wonton covered with wonton chips. Are you kidding me!? I am so very displeased with this. HANDS DOWN my all-time favorite Thai Food joint to frequent. I used to eat here when I was in my undergrad at La Sierra University. My friend and I happened to stumble upon this place by accident to be honest but oh what a happy accident it was. I used to be a pescatarian and I enjoyed the Tom Kha soup with fish and tofu. The thriller for me at this restaurant is the garlic tofu. Maaaaaaaan! They have altered it through the years where it was green garlic sauce and other times it was clear garlic sauce but it has been consistently the best garlic tofu I have ever had. I order similar dishes at other Thai places but none quite like they do it here. I appreciate their food and their service. Don't be thrown off by it's placement near a gas station. This place is amazing. Of course, this is my opinion. Only thing left is for you to try it yourself! read more
