This place was outrageous!!!! Right off the bat, my fiance and I loved this place, because their Thai Iced Tea was phenomenal. Then spring rolls? Great. Pad thai? Wonderful. Veggie "Duck" Pineapple Curry? Fantastic. But, what literally brought tears to my eyes was their CURRY PUFFS!!! They were mind-blowing! I tried so hard to make them last longer than the blink of an eye, but it was a struggle. I cannot explain to you how marvelous they were! The pastry part of it was so light and fluffy, and the savory inside was seasoned perfectly! Plus, the service was great. I've tried many Thai places in the Dutchess County area and this is by far the best one. The service is friendly, the portion sizes are huge and the food tastes great. My wife and I recently went for a family meal and had a fantastic time. I ordered the Pad Thai with Tofu and she had the pineapple fried rice. My pad thai had a perfect amount of sweet/ peanut flavor and was piping hot. My wife's pineapple fried rice had plenty of pineapple and was served in a half pineapple with an extra bowl of fried rice on the side My cousins were at dinner, having been to Thailand for their honeymoon also remarked that the food tasted very authentic. This spot was pretty good. My friends and I were headed to a Vietnamese spot down the road but they were closed and not opening for at least another hour or 2 later... Although this place was pretty empty (most likely due to the snow storm from the night before), the food was pretty good. I ate the Chicken Satay (kind of a must have when you visit a Thai spot), Pad Peow Whan and Thai Iced Coffee. I also tried some of my friend's Pad Thai. The food was pretty good. They give large portions. My Pad Peow Whan was pretty huge until I realize most of it was just chopped onions. There were a ton of freaking onions in that dish. The sauce was good. More sweet than sour. I've had better chicken satay else where. The iced coffee was right one. Their Pad Thai was ok. The service was a bit cold. Thai Spice has excellent food and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Their curry blends are as tasty as they are aromatic. I highly recommend eating here if you are anywhere in the area! We eat here often. I recommend calling for reservations on the weekends. I will also call ahead when I am out shopping and swing by to grab an order of mango and sticky rice on my way home. So this was my first visit to Thai Spice. Really good Beef Satay.........And that's really all I can comment on food wise. I had lunch earlier and was only there with my bud and fiancee' who didn't. So it was small for me. It was fabulous and flavorful. The decor was okay. Nothing spectacular. Simple and understated. However, the main reason for this review was the really bad service we had. It was lunch time and it wasn't busy. So you would think employees would be a bit more cheery not having to wait on a ton of people....WRONG! We felt unwelcome almost immediately, treated almost like a nuisance cause we chose to eat your restaurant. The waitress was not friendly at all and seemed to be very annoyed that we weren't ordering drinks other than water. Again, food was okay. We've also tried some rice dishes with basil and the vegetable options. All are rally good. When it gets busy they can be understaffed but they try really hard, and it shows. This is an amazing place. It's a nice spot for a quiet dinner or lunch and the curry options are all so delicious. My favorite restaurant in the area. Service is attentive, and the food will fill you up. Curry puffs are smaller portion for the price, but the full dishes themselves are moderate-large in size. I've been coming here for years. Food is great, servings are plentiful- service is subpar at best! There is a waiter/hostess that should be placed in the back of the house non customer facing. She always looks miserable to be there. Extremely bothered. Never smiles. Inattentive, you have to wave her down for service and once you've gotten her attention she seems very annoyed to have to "work" and kills the vibe. You must wave her over she won't come and check on you and see if you need anything. She's been here for years and other yelpers have echoed the same point. The lady who takes the order (I am sure she is the owners wife) is absolutely rude and have no manners. Have zero patience and just cuts you off even before you say what you want. This place is so close to our office and suits the need of all the coworkers food choice and spice preferences so we placed large orders (12+ entrees) here quite frequently. We specifically mentioned it's for office and requested utensils and few hot sauce and soy sauce packets on the side for those who want some spice. She gave just one each of hot sauce and soy sauce for the whole order of 12 ENTREES and said we need to pay extra for more hot sauce and utensils while one of the coworker went for picking up. I've been here at least 30+ times, and rarely have I regretted it. I almost always get the kang massaman with shrimp, which is a gigantic portion (as is everything there). The pad thai is also pretty good and the toong thong are by far my favorite appetizer, right after the fried squid. Thai Spice isn't a 5-star restaurant, but for what it is and what they serve, I think they deserve 5. Small space with maybe 20-ish tables, many of which are comfortable booths, nothing fancy. Sort of a quasi-asian decor, no lucky cats haha. The place always seems to have a good amount of students/customers but I've never had to wait to be seated and it's not rowdy, lots of serious hipsters with bookbags. Having eaten there many times, this is many visits rolled into one. The bar only serves wine and beer, no hard stuff. Apps range between $5 and $7, entrees are all over the place, as most can be ordered with your choice of chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, like most asian places and prices according to which protein you choose. Thai spring rolls, chicken satay, spare ribs and curry puffs all very very good, served with sauces ranging from traditional peanut sauces to vinegary as well as ginger onion. Service is quick, quiet and friendly, diminutive. Memorable entrees include of course Pad Thai, but I've only had that once since when I started to explore their menu further, everything has been so good I haven't wanted to go back to the old thai food standard. K1 Kang Daeng red curry - I think there's crack in it, it's so good. Mild but spicy, loaded with chicken and bell peppers. M2 Pad Khing is excellent, C1 Kai Yang is a generous helping of fantastic chicken, C7 Rama Chicken spicy and can't-stop-eating-it and volcano chicken which was set on fire haha. That was more of a gimmick than anything of course, but the chicken was still excellent. The rice is very good, but like any asian place, pretty standard. If you can't have decent rice in a thai place, there's a problem. I've never had room for dessert. The entree portions are very generous, there's always plenty to take home for a regular appetite. I've never understood the parking there, it seems like there's a lot beside them but it might also belong to the church? I've always parked in the lot between them and the church and hoped for the best. There's street parking but good luck getting any on a weekend evening. Listen, the place isn't fancy, but it's neat clean, the prices are well worth the value, the food is always hot, fresh and crisp (and delicious) coming out of the kitchen, service is quick. It's easy to dine there as a couple or as a group, there's plenty of privacy if you want to find a corner for a cheap, intimate date but bright enough for a study group to pass around notes. Ew. Last night on the way home from the train station my friends and I wanted to grab Thai. Lemongrass was our top choice but they closed early because of the snow. I had been to Thai spice before and it was ok but figured it would do the trick. We ordered Thai basil, pad Thai, and green curry to go. The pad Thai was ok not amazing. The green curry was not green and we have no idea what the dish was supposed to be... Same with the Thai basil. Neither of the two resembled any Thai dish we have ever had! It seemed more they threw together a mix of what they had in a container an gave it to us knowing it was a blizzard and we wouldn't come back. Lemongrass around the corner is 100x better!!! This restaurant fluctuates with me. Sometimes I have a really great meal there and other times it is only okay. I like the fish cakes which come with a Thai chili sauce and the chicken pad gra prow (pretty much chicken in a basil sauce). The service is VERY hit or miss and they do not have non-thai children options which makes it harder to eat there. This place has a great deal for mimosas 2 for $8. Mimosas were the highlight of the meal. I got the pad thai with tofu. Tofu was gross; don't get the tofu here. But everything else about the pad thai was pretty good. Hugee portion but thats never a bad thing. The fried banana dessert was a disappointment. The banana were overcooked and tasted like nothing. Ive had this dessert before in CA at a Vietnamese restaurant; the heavens opened and I could hear the angels singing with every bite of that sweet banana. A word to the wise - please don't say this place is the best Thai in the Hudson Valley simply because you think there is simply little to no Thai restaurants in the Hudson Valley. The food here is always good, and I usually end up ordering their Yellow Curry, but their yellow curry is missing something that I just can't put my finger on. I go to this great Thai place in Carmel with my coworkers sometimes and she uses a lot of fresh and sustainable farm ingredients so maybe that's why Thai Spice falls short? Also, I used to like them a lot more but the last time I went, he charged me for a full glass of soda every single time we requested a refill. Who does that? They never used to do that in the past - and I feel that's so classless and unprofessional. Lastly, their service - whether they are busy or slow - is pretty bad. I usually get the waiter who is bilingual and he really doesn't have much of a personality nor does he come to your table enough so you end up having an empty glass of water for most of your meal. I really like coming here. The food is pretty good and the service is all right, but the decor is FANTASTIC. I love sitting in the booths with the little roofs and icicle lights.
