The pad Thai beef tasted rotten and the noodles also stank of a stench that wasn't similar to fish sauce, but of the dead lamb I dissected in high school. Steamed dumplings tasted like they had been in the freezer for far too long and WTF, they tasted a bit gamey, like lamb or venison??!! Main was the green curry with tofu, which should have a coconut milk base, but had watery chicken stock with a splash of coconut milk. The tofu was prefried and flavorless. No rich umami creamy goodness, just cheap brothy dish with lots of peppers and tofu. True, they serve good sized portions, but it's flavorless and sub-par quality. Not even a hint of fish sauce or even jarred curry paste. The rice is NOT jasmine, but cheaper long grain that's even been overcooked and incredibly dry, without the fragrant telltale aroma. This is not even making an effort at pretending to be Thai. Service went from inattentive to offensive and rude. At the first check in I told her i didn't like my dish and it wasn't curry and didn't have coconut milk in it because it was translucent and watery. She nodded and walked away and began to look at her phone. Barely touched my dish and was a little pissed at the waste of food. But they barely noticed as the whole staff sat down and began to eat their food while there were still dining customers. It was getting past mini-me's bedtime so I indicated I was ready to leave. My waitress stood up from eating and headed over to me, chewing with her mouth open. She asked if I'd like to take the food home and when I declined she asked if everything was ok. I said no, it was not and that I had said I hadn't liked it and this curry was terrible. She then tried to argue and made a scene, ranting to her boss in Chinese and interjecting every other sentence with an angry "terrible" while pointing at me. Upon leaving their parking lot, I saw staff circulate between the back entrance into the kitchen of Thai Spice and the Chinese takeout place next door. Ah, so this now made sense. The owner of the Chinese takeout place may have thought they could open a Thai place because, how hard can it be right? I'd forgive bad service for good food, but this is neither. Thai Spice is a staple for nearby students and it's easy to see why: delicious food, huge portions, and relatively cheap (as someone who frequents the sushi spots in the area, I forgot how cheap Thai Spice is in comparison). It's difficult not to compare to its competitor Lemongrass-- literally a street away. Both have excellent food, but if you're searching for a big portion/leftovers, Thai Spice is the spot to pick. I also believe Thai Spice is a smidgen cheaper. I came here on a Thursday night with a friend and ordered the chicken pad see ew; my friend ordered chicken pad thai (yes, we're pretty basic). The service was quick and efficient and the food came out so hot I thought I was getting a facial. It was also, as usual, delicious. Thai Spice has some fun dishes, the first to come to mind being pineapple fried rice, which comes in a hollowed out pineapple. If you're in the mood for dessert they have good options, like fried ice cream (the last time I got it they set in on fire, flashy but a nice touch). Overall there's nothing that makes Thai Spice worthy of 5 stars, in my opinion, but if you're looking for good and cheap Thai food this is certainly a good option. read more

OK it's the only Thai place very near my house but still scores high marks for: Food- been here a few times now and really enjoyed their: Tom Kha Gai soup (nice balanced flavor, not all heat or all coconut) , Pad Thai and the Massaman curry. Everything is very tasty! My only critique, lemon wedge instead of a lime, my Pad Thai was incomplete without that lime flavor. Decor- Nice interior, booth seating is available along the wall, very clean, entrees are served on gigantic platters atop a palm leaf with a pretty garnish. Service- friendly and attentive. I had the Pla Kra Tiem or "Fried whole fish topped with green pea, carrot, and onion in a coriander and garlic sauce." I found my own dish to be somewhat bland, but am thinking that the dish is what it is. I ate with my family and tried a lot of what they had and found it to be very tasty and mine certainly wasn't bad. We had a bunch of leftovers and they all got consumed the same night. I loved the presentation. Mine was, as stated, a whole fish. My little sister and I had fun playing with its little eyeball. Bit pricey, but cool atmosphere. We went on Saturday afternoon and it was empty. My grandmother had her dish brought to her in a cut-out pineapple. I thought that was pretty neat. She also seemed to love the mango juice (which I found to be quite tasty) as we had a little trouble keeping her away from ours- course, she's got Alzheimer's so probably just thought they were hers. read more

This place is not bad at all for Mid hudson valley area. The restaurant itself is small but new and has nice interiors...very clean too. I ordered Panang Curry like I usually do at other Thai restaurants. It was not fantastic but pretty good. I also ordered Spring rolls and fried bananas. All of them were good...I am a fan of their Kuay Tiew Kee Mao: Flat wide noodle with egg, peppers and bamboo shoots and such in a spicy sweet sauce. It goes so well with rice, tho you have to order rice on the side. Just remember this place tend to make dished spicier than others. So you better stick with Mild unless you like really spicy. The food is quite good, but the hostess/owner was incredibly rude and unfriendly when we walked in to be seated. She didn't even make eye contact, and -- as other reviewers have said -- she acted as if we were a nuisance. Then she led us to a booth, plopped the menus on the table, and walked away without saying a word. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and the food is good to excellent, with generous portions, but the server wasn't much better or any more welcoming than the hostess had been. My overall rating is a three, knocked down one star because of the horrible attitude of the staff. Shame because this could be a great restaurant. I'm not sure I'd go back when I'm made to feel as though our presence is not wanted. If awful service isn't an issue for you, then the food is probably worth it. read more

Always enjoy coming here for a Thai meal. Although there aren't particularly many places to choose from in this area, this has been the go to spot for the last couple of years for me regardless. Portions are always generous and the wait staff is friendly and attentive. My "usual" is the Pad Prig Khing with pork (sauteed string beans and bell peppers with curry sauce). The pork is always delicious and flavorful, and the vegetables have a nice (but not overly spicy) kick. You can always ask for it spicier, and typical for Thai places, they'll gladly oblige. My vegetarian wife will typically get the tofu pad kee mao. Not many local places have this particular dish (that seemingly every other Thai place in the city has) so she's happy to have it here. As I said, the portions are typically large, although I feel that they have lessened them a bit lately. Still, there are almost always leftovers for the next day. I don't want to spend much time on the experience I had here. In short, came with a 3 yr old, and ordered food and sticky rice. The waitress nuked the sticky rice to the point where it was scalding hot. My little one put piece in her mouth, after I'd blown it off, but the inside of the little piece was SO hot that it burned her tongue, lip and mouth. She screamed and cried hysterically and the waitress could care less. She had 0 affect and then wanted to charge me for the item. It took the manager, who is also the manager at Chan Peking, to come out and he comped the bill. The penang curry was watered down and tasteless. The chicken was cut so thinly that it had no consistency and I wondered if it were even real chicken meat. He assured me it was, and said they're still trying to fix their recipes. A perfectly acceptable time for a late post-movie meal given that your website states you are open until 11PM. You took down my name and gave me a verbal confirmation. You even joked around and said I probably wouldn't need reservations since the restaurant becomes "empty" around 9:00PM. Come Friday night, I call you around 8:30PM to ask if we're still on in 30 minutes, and you heckle me about making reservations for "such a late time" and inform me that your kitchen is closing around 9:00PM. I have been a regular at Thai Spice for almost 4 years. The service was always mediocre to poor, but the food quality was worth enduring the unfriendly and unenthusiastic wait staff. However the food quality has steadily decreased over the last year or so, and if it is possible, the service has taken a nosedive too! I went this afternoon, and my food was mediocre and the waitress acted as if it was a major inconvenience that I walked in with the intention of spending money. I'm afraid I wasn't really into Thai Spice when we came recently. I'd heard good things about it and was looking forward to the meal, but it just didn't quite measure up to the Thai food I've had at comprable restaurants in other locales. The interior is nice enough, with a small, cute feel. The only drawback about the decor for me were the icicle lights; they reminded me a bit too strongly of Christmas. Our waiter was fine: soft-spoken and friendly enough. After ordering a slightly-too-watery Thai iced coffee served in a very cute bamboo glass, I decided to go with the Toong Thong (A13) for my appetizer. This turned out to be my favorite part of the dinner and was a fried wonton filled with pork and shrimp and accompanied by a sweet dipping sauce. The wonton was slightly too hot to eat when it came out, but the minute of waiting for it to cool was well worth it. The wonton wasn't too greasy, and the combination of it, the filling, and dipping sauce worked together very nicely. My friend went with the Thai Salad (Y1), which was less enjoyable. The peanut dressing was tasty, however, the lettuce leaves were a little sad-looking, and were predominantly of the iceberg variety (not the mixed greens on the menu). If you're really craving a salad with your meal, there's nothing wrong with this salad, but it's pretty middle of the road. For entrees my table ordered the Kang Massaman with pork (K4), the Pad Woo Sen with tofu (N2), and a third curry dish I didn't catch the name of (and didn't taste, so can't comment on it). I'm a big fan of Massaman--it's my go-to Thai dish, and I've had several renditions of it. Thai Spice's version was okay. I ordered it medium spicy, and the kitchen hit that right on the nose, but I found the dish to be slightly too salty and the flavors somewhat muddled, compared to the version of the dish that I've had at other places. The Pad Woo Sen was also somewhat disappointing. The tofu was nicely cooked, but the dish was also too salty and the crab (which I'm pretty sure was imitation crab from the look and taste) that came with it really didn't add anything to it. I really wanted to like Thai Spice, but I just couldn't... the food was rather disappointing and for the dinner price (my total of a shared appetizer, entree, and coffee came to slightly over $20) I'd rather go someplace else (Akari comes to mind). That being said, Thai Spice might be a better lunch spot: I believe the prices are reduced somewhat during the daytime. read more

The portions are generous, but lacks the true flavor of what some traditional dishes are suppose to have. The Pad Thai is a bit soggy, and less chewy of a noodle than it's suppose to have. There is also a bit too much oil added. The Kang Karee curry dish is what Cantonese curry tastes like. The Pineapple Fried Rice lacks enough pineapple to call it Pineapple Fried Rice. I had about 3 small bits of pineapple in the two times I've ordered this dish. Mango Sticky Rice dessert was tasty. Quite intriguing as a menu item, so I just had to get it, and it's my first of it's kind that I've had the pleasure of savoring. Thai Coconut Pudding is also a nice dessert choice. We went with a party of 8, and I'm assuming that the 18% included gratuity lowered the server's desire to even attempt a smile. The last dish came to our table at least 10 minutes after the first one was served. My husband was informed at the last minute that his noodles would have to substituted because they were all out of flat rice noodles...seems odd but that was that. My dish was a combination of mixed veggies and beef. Some of the veggies were hot and some were not. Normally, I would have asked to have it heated up, but as I mentioned, our server was not exactly charming. My mother ordered that pineapple fried rice that everyone is raving about. She asked to have it served with no chicken and extra shrimp ( we have no problem paying extra for additional shrimp). Her dish had 3 shrimp in it. We went for a birthday celebration, and I'm sorry to say, but that was our last visit to Thai Spice. It looks as if all you get is the scraps. We have been ordering take out from here for years but the last three times have been terrible. We keep thinking that the quality from the past will return.
