One of the best Thai places ever. I'm a creature of habit so Pad Kee Mow is my go to Thai dish. This one is yummy, enough for two. My husband gets the curry chicken and says it's awesome, but always gets an extra bowl of rice. The woman who runs the place also cooks the food. Knowing that we would be going to the wasteland that is the North Shore, we scouted out some elite reviews for some decent food options. John L.H. raved about this place and since I like to prove him tasteless, we decided to try it out. Nice space, good service, lovely table settings and plates, but the food is the big issue with me. We shared an order of cheese rolls (pretty much crab rangoons). The Girly ordered hot tea and a daily special of Redfish with veggies (level 3 hot). I had iced tea, and the Pad Prik Khing (Level 4 Thai Hot). The cheese rolls were quite good, the shells were crispy and the inside creamy. There is a sweet/sour dipping sauce with it but in all honesty, I preferred them alone. They were just really well done. My Pad Prik Khing was with shrimp. And while I think it could have used a couple of more shrimp, it was really well balanced. I did have to order some chilies and chili vinegar for mine because it wasn't really Thai hot. But still, it was terrific and Fatman got his grub on. I can not say enough good things about the balance and flavor. The green beans in the dish are, like the rest of the veggies, perfectly crispy. The onions smokey and the shrimp perfect. The Girly's redfish was good and bad. The actual fish was cooked crispy and had such a wonderfully meaty texture that you could almost imagine it being chicken...chicken that tastes really good. The veggies were crispy and copious and both our rice sides were fluffy and delicious. But the sauce on the redfish was super sweet. While I loved my bite of fish, the sauce throws the over-all balance off a bit too much. So the dish over-all off but the fish part was brilliant. (They did say they can make a Thai Basil version with the fish. can't wait to try that) At the end of the meal, they give you an orange, all pealed and segmented. The girly ate both because her 3 hot was a bit too much for her. I really would love to go back and try them again. They are well priced and the food, in general, was fantastic. Our server was great and the cook even came out to check if the white guy was going to die from the spice. I think he was a little let down that I added more spice to it. I would seriously recommend this place to anyone who likes Thai food. If you were a fan of Thai Thai by Ricky before he "screwed" up, then you will love this food. Why am I more diligent about rating restaurants when I'm on the road?? Anyway, I was staying nearby, and the ratings on this restaurant caught my eye. They close early Sunday night, but I was there Monday night! Looks to be a mom and pop place in a little strip mall, and the food is to die for! I can't remember exactly what I had, but it was one of their house specials with shrimp. Slightly sweet, and I ordered it mild, but just enough spice to complement the sweetness. Wow! I wasn't expecting much from the wine list, and you shouldn't either. Pretty much white or red, with a couple varietals of each. But you don't go to a Thai restaurant for the wine, right? The food and service were just A-OK. Dined with a party of six, so had the chance to try a few different curry dishes, as well as noodle and stir fry offerings. All were pretty good, but I've had better Thai in the NOLA area, at two eateries on the south shore and one in Mandeville. Let's start with the appetizers... the fresh spring rolls were served deep fried, and the chicken satay, was a little dry, but tolerable with the peanut sauce. The service was friendly enough, but inattentive and poorly timed. One member of our party had to ask three times for iced tea (thank God the Sapporo was faster), but probably the most disappointing aspect of the service was the timing, which was too rushed. A party of six (three couples) at 7pm on a Saturday shouldn't be rushed (restaurant was at 50% capacity, max). We were asked repeatedly, within 5-10 minutes of brining seated, if we were ready to order, so went ahead and did so. Before the mediocre appetizers were gone, our dinners stated arriving. I actually planned on ordering soup, but in the rush of ordering entrees, forgot about it, so I won't be reviewing soup... or dessert, since it wasn't offered. Getting a party of six in & out, in less than an hour, is appreciated for a business lunch, but not for a relaxed Saturday evening dinner, especially after driving nearly an hour to get there. My boyfriend and I went there for lunch--the service was excellent! My curry noodles were a bit intense in flavor, but still good. The spring rolls were good as well--not the best I've ever had, but pretty standard for decent Thai food. In summary, I'm a bit of a Thai snob, but I found Thai Spice to be far better than I had expected it to be. Definitely worth a try at least! read more

my review is an avg of about 4 meals I have had there. A coworker really likes this place so this is how I found it. The first couple of meals I had were basic stir fry I guess you would call it. Beef with veggies done a couple different ways. It was bland both times and basically both dishes tasted the same I went back when someone else asked me to go. I was not looking forward to it. Below average. Thai Chili was way better when it was open. Tom Yum had 3 rubbery shrimp but broth was good... Sweet Sour Thai had rubbery shrimp and watery few veg. Stopped by Thai spice today while in Covington after recommendation from a friend. I love Thai food, and love a good basil fried rice. We got the Thai fried rice and the special fried rice, and it was everything you dream about for a fried rice. When we come back to this side of the lake, we will be back. I was here for a recent birthday trip and thought Thai would be fun. I didn't realize there would be so many Thai places on the Northshore, and I was pleasantly surprised by this small, stripmall restaurant. The ingredients tasted fresh. My partner had the crispy fish, and I stole a bit off his plate; it was amazing. I ordered the drunken noodles because of the good reviews for them. Not quite my scene, but I was out to try something new, so that's not the noodles' fault. The server was nice and attentive and chatted us up a bit. We got our segmented orange as a finisher. The thai tea was a little overly sweet, but I saved a lot of it in the mini fridge at our hotel and enjoyed it for breakfast the next day; it was still good. read more

My spouse got the Thai fried rice and it was a very large portion. They went heavy on the onions and carrots, but I didn't mind because she gave them to me. The pad Thai was a decent sized portion. We walked in at the same time as another couple. They were served drinks and appetizers before she even came over to take our drink order which was only water. We asked if she could take our order and she made the snarky comment that she had to help (them) first. We were served our food after they had drinks, appetizers and their meal. Best Thai food in the greater New Orleans area! The food is consistently good. Pad Thai, special fried rice, yellow curry, hot and sour soup and pad woon sen are my go to choices and never disappoint. Everything is so flavorful and the owner/chef always uses fresh ingredients. For a short period of time they had an unfriendly waitress but she has been replaced by an awesome waiter, Adam! The owner cooks the food himself and he's extremely friendly! I LOVE Thai Spice and Mr. Ricky! This is my favorite Thai restaurant on the northshore or in the New Orleans area for that matter. We get take out a couple of times a month (or eat in) and I like to take guests there from out of town and introduce them to Ricky. The food is very yummy and "medium" is quite hot, just the way I like it, so be careful if it's not your thing. If you like your food "thai hot", tell them hot and you will be happy. Ricky is a fun host and smart businessman. He knows his customers and takes care of you (always stops by to talk to us and often offers my daughter a soda or other treat). All of the staff are nice and attentive also. You can get anything made with tofu and they have vegetarian spring rolls too. read more

Since I'm from Seattle I'm a bit of a Thai snob, but this place was great. Very fresh, tasty and great customer service. I had a delicious Mango Catfish dish...with light and crispy fish and shredded mango. So yummy! We had a birthday girl in our party, and they brought out a dish with ice cream, cherries, and deep fried bananas in won ton wrappers...and candles! Great place to eat. The food was delicious and the customer service was excellent! My husband and I stopped in almost close to closing time and they were amazing and accommodated us. We must have looked really hungry, lol. The beef salad doesn't normally come spicy but they hooked me up. It was the perfect amount of heat and the beef salad was light and filling. I was fiending for some Thai food and figured I'd give this place a try due to the high ratings here. I stopped in probably around 8pm, and the only people in there were employees. The restaurant was kind of small but looked clean and well maintained. I placed an order and sat down to wait. Minutes after sitting down, my food was already done and I was on my way. I know this should be a good thing, fast service, but to me it just makes me wonder how many short cuts they're taking in the kitchen, and how fresh the food really is. So here's the breakdown. I got chicken and broccoli (which came with a huge container of white rice--no option for brown apparently), pad thai, and an order of spring rolls. The hard, desiccated corpse of flavorlessness masquerading as a spring roll was not something I'd order again. I could have gotten better tasting ones if I bought them myself from Costco. The pad thai was okay but to me, it was too sweet and I didn't think the portion was very big. Maybe I'm just used to places that give you a ton of pad thai. The chicken with broccoli was all right, but the best thing about it was probably the sauce with white rice, and to me that's a let down. I believe the broccoli was frozen, not fresh (big points off) and while there was a decent amount of chicken, it just wasn't very good. Even with the sauce, which was tasty but too thin. It was too close to chicken and broccoli soup with the amount of sauce they added to the dish, and given how watery it was. I was disappointed with the menu choices, too, because I didn't think they were that varied, and a lot of dishes I'm used to seeing regularly on menus at Thai restaurants were distinctly missing. This is not the worst place I've ever been to, but next time I'm craving Thai food I'll be looking around for somewhere else to fill it. read more

I've never been here before so my coworker recommended Pad Woon Sen. She got hers with chicken, and I tried it with the tofu. It was delicious. The food is really good but the service is awful. There is generally only one waitress who is the owners sister. She is rude for no reason. She should not be in a customer service role anywhere! It's a shame because they have good food, but when you have someone as impolite as this waitress, it ruins the experience. I won't be going back.
