Beef Short Rib plate and Viet Coffee (tip and tax) $29
    Lindsey D.

This place does not disappoint. I haven't had Vietnamese grilled food in a while and this totally hit the spot. I forgot how flavourful their marinade is. The short rib platter comes with an array of herbs, lettuce and sheets of vermicelli noodles and a dipping sauce. The Grill Beef Short Ribs plate and an iced coffee with tip and tax is $29. Cash only.

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE Good food at a reasonable price makes Thai Son a good choice when in the area for Vietnamese food; just be sure to bring cash because that's all they'll accept! === 2. FOOD House Special Combination Beef with Rice Noodles in Soup: It's a beef buffet with rare beef slices, tripe, tendon, and brisket with noodles, sprouts, mint, and lime. As other Yelpers have mentioned the soup tastes like it's MSG-based so don't drink too much of it :) Shredded Pork and Deep-Fried Spring Rolls on Vermicelli with Assorted Vegetables: Meant to get BBQ pork, but this was still a good option; the spring rolls nice and crispy, the noodles fine, and the vegetables - well, are really a salad. Vietnamese Salad Rolls (with shrimp): great appetizer or even a meal on its own. Nice that it includes plump shrimp and Vietnamese ham in the same roll. The peanut sauce was warm, which is a nice touch. === 3. SERVICE Takeout service worked well in English and Vietnamese. The food was ready as quickly as promised. Only cash is accepted - no debit, electronic, or credit payments are possible. === 4. ENVIRONMENT While I did not dine in, it appears to have a fair number of tables (only some of which could be used during COVID) in a bright environment. Wheelchairs and baby strollers should be able to get through the makeshift plexiglass wall at the front (presumably erected for the COVID period). Parking is as plentiful as it gets in the shopping complex lot outside.

One of the newer locations for this chain. Guessing they moved over from the other side of Garden City. Old location is now Shine Valley. Parking is plentiful in the strip mall lot. The inside is very new, like the entire strip mall. I always find it hilarious that a pho place has chandeliers. Guess they're keeping it classy. Staff are decent. Looks like they're stretched a bit. But no biggie. I tried their pork chop, pork hash, and meat pie on rice. Decent quality, just like the other locations. Can't really go wrong with their rice dishes. Their spring rolls however are just okay. Personally I'd rather eat the ones at other establishments such as Bao Chau. One last tip - the MSG soup can be refilled. Not sure if there's a limit but it worked once for my friends and me. Overall a decent option in this part of the city. Wouldn't mind coming back, though there are some other tasty looking options along the same stretch of businesses.

The place is your typical Vietnamese restaurant. The prices weren't bad. It's located in the Wal-Mart plaza. Good luck finding parking on ground level. I usually park in the parking lot on top of Marshall's. The Vietnamese beef stew was decent but a little disappointing. Its competitor across the street had a much better version, albeit more expensive. Thai Son's version was flavorful and the portion was good; however, the beef was so hard and chewy! I had to spit out most of my meat as I couldn't swallow them. I felt like a cow chewing endlessly on her grass - bad comparison, I know. I've cooked beef stews at home many times so I know that beef stew takes A LONG TIME to cook before the meat is tender. I think this was their problem. Otherwise, I would have given them a 4.

I've been to the same restaurant a few times when it was in a different location. Since it's relocated I haven't had a chance to visit until now. The place now is located in a new plaza by WallMart in Richmond, parking is a little difficult because it's always busy. But if you don't mind walking, you can always find parking spots further and walk over. The restaurant is very clean and well maintained. There are many tables for large groups, which is very spacious. The lighting is also nice and bright, unlike the old place. The staff are the same, not as friendly, but it comes with any Asian restaurants. I ordered their no.11 and No.46 for takeout, hence there's no pictures. The broth for the noodle was clear and flavorful, and noodles were well cooked. The No.46 is one of their famous dishes with broken rice and bbq pork, beef and chicken. It's designed for meat and carb lovers! I would say the portion for both are still quite big, however, I still recommend to dine in, because after it's being transferred to the containers, the authentic flavor can be lost in transition. I already plan to go back again, hope you get a chance to try it out!

Tuesday special at 10% off is a deal here. Better yet, the pho tasted good with a bowl of hot soup, reasonable amount of beef with a large and bright set up. Servers were few but then we went late after 9pm. My friend had a lemon grass chicken on rice, and it looked almost good enough for two people. Yes, of course, they used the good old method of flattening the chicken thigh and pork chop to make them look bigger. Nonetheless, it was still good portion, and most importantly, tasted just fine. Too bad we didn't have room for any of the appys but next time! The only thing about that location is parking. That mall is becoming more and more popular with new shops continuing to open up. We'll be back!

Came on Christmas Day. It was pretty busy for lunch as there was a short wait time to get a table. Friendly staff...waitress spoke limited English but she was pretty friendly when taking our orders. Place is cleaner than a lot of other similar places I've been to. Used tables were cleaned up very quickly and they were spotless. The dining area has modern decor with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, white glossy tables, some plants and grey marble-like flooring. The classic restaurant chairs kinda feel uncomfortable after you sit on it for awhile though. Cook times for the dishes were fair at about 15 minutes for 4 dishes. They serve complimentary bean sprouts and your typical Chinese tea while you wait. On this visit, I decided to try out their menu item titled #50 Grilled lemongrass chicken, shredded pork and fried egg on steamed broken rice. $11.50 was a not bad of a price for it. For the most part, their grilled lemongrass chicken was not bad at all. It was cooked well. Not overly greasy, not overly salty either. It was marinated OK. Just by itself it tasted a little bland but if you dipped it with the provided bowl of their dipping sauce it's got a more of a pleasantly sweet flavor. It's certainly not the best tasting lemongrass chicken I've ever had that's for sure. Other than the chicken, to balance it off, the inclusion of the small salad on the side makes for a refreshing veggie side dish. The shredded pork was OK and it was noticeably salty. Wish they added a little more of it. Egg was cooked well. Not sure how an addition of a fried unseasoned egg adds flavor to the dish but it did make the whole dish seem fuller. The rice underneath it all was also cooked well. It tasted, well, like rice. The inclusion of a mini bowl of clear broth soup to help wash down the oils was nice. Overall, not a bad choice for a casual Vietnamese restaurant. You really can't go wrong with coming here for a light lunch...just don't expect to be completely blown away by the taste of the lemongrass chicken. 3.5/5 rounded up to 4.

In the same complex as the Wal-mart on the Northeast corner of Alderbridge Way and Garden City Rd. Went there for weekday lunch, and the place was pretty busy. Had to park at the Wal-mart as parking at the plaza was full. Seems reasonably clean and bright inside. Had tried to go to this place for a holiday dinner and there was a long wait, so didn't go in on that occasion. The place serves pho and Vietnamese fare. Had their large signature pho, and it was pretty decent. The portion for the large pho is pretty big, and I was full when I finished it. The broth was good, and they gave plenty of meat, but the noodles were merely okay. Also had the grilled chicken, which tasted good. Food was out quickly. No real complaints.

Shredded pork and grilled lemongrass chicken on vermicelli with vegetable

We came here on Monday afternoon and the restaurant is quite empty. Thai son is one of the reliable Vietnamese restaurants. The food isn't fancy but they also serve decent quality and portion of food. We love their Vietnamese salad roll which is so refreshing and well wrapped. The beef noodle soup and shredded pork and grilled chicken vermicelli bowl came with a very big bowl. The taste is good but the only downside is you can taste the MSG in the soup, which we always feel thirsty after drinking it. It's a nice place to get our craving fixed for a bowl of hot Pho.

Thai Son is definitely improved and more established compared to back to when they had their past location in Richmond. There are a lot of other choices around them now, so you know it's good when seats still get filled up. It's not too different but at least slightly less no-frills compared to before. For example, they have dedicated oyster sauce squirting bottles now, instead of just the using sriracha ones. The glow up is real. I have a good memories of growing up and my parents bringing me to eat their pho in Richmond, typically after tiring tennis practice. I'm glad to see that their portions of large bowls of pho hasn't changed. Apparently they have (as of writing) 5 different location in the Vancouver area now? Cool! Cash only btw.

This is my regular go to place for pho. Love the staff. Food is always good and at good prices. Even it's busy, they turnover tables quickly so the wait is under 10 min so it's okay that they don't take reservations. I usually get the typical pho with rare beef and beef balls. But I have tried #30 spicy beef with pork hock vermicelli noodles and it was really good. Loved the noodles. They are like the Asian fish soup rice noodles but thicker. Also tried their pancake which was also good. The inside had bean sprouts, and some pork, shrimp and squid. Wrap the lettuce around it and dip it in the sweet fish sauce mixture.

This is my first time at Thai Son. This location is in the plaza at McClelland in Richmond. Nice modern feel to restaurant. The entrance is confusing, the main entrance is on one side of the restaurant near the subway and the other entrance goes into the kitchen and tells you to walk to the other side although you wouldn't be able to tell until you get to the door. Very busy location and quick turnover with fast friendly service. Didn't try the pho here. The lemongrass pork, chicken rice platter good size and authentic. Spring rolls a little on the small size but had a good crisp and crunch. The menu has the usual Vietnamese dishes and selection standard. A good place for typical Vietnamese dishes. Not much variety on the menu or different entrees. Washrooms clean. Overall authentic pho restaurant in the area good for a quick bite.

September, 8, 2019 I ordered a piece of lemongrass chicken on side , their lemongrass chicken... cannot taste any lemongrass favorite, just full of honey favorite. So disappointed. #12 - small Beef brisket , tendon and beef strips noodles in soup... hot and tasty soup base, but not much beef tendon inside. #1 large house special noodles in soup Lemongrass chicken on noodles in soup Salty lemon soda... less salty lemon as before.. soda was so flat , no more gas Ice coffee with condensed milk... the filter was leaking .. coffee all over the places, without replace another one for us.. I need to ask 4 times for napkins to clean our table
