Wow, seriously, I never had so huge of portions at a Thai food restaurant. For example, I ordered beef sate and angel wings for me and my mom and at the restaurants I've been to, we get an order enough for two. Had I known that we'd get enough to serve four people, I would've just stuck to the sate. On top of that my mom's duck dinner, according to her was "sweet and delicious, and the sauce makes the duck alive", could also be easily divided by four people. And so could the hearty plate of pad thai! Overall, delicious, and a great place for family. Upon arrival and leaving to-go bags of food waited by the door and the rotation of customers was constant, so I assume this play is a haven for take-out thai food. There are signs that say "water available upon request" throughout the restaurant, and when I requested for my water the waitress kept it full, which is a plus in my book. Great and attentive service, great food. Must try. Oh, but parking can be a bit complicated so pick your meal times wisely, or just order take-out. Thai BBQ is a decent Thai style BBQ chicken joint that is randomnly spread out throughout Los Angeles county and then some... The comfort of the yellow sign with red flamey writing is unmistakable. (Don't be fooled by the Studio City location, that one is an imposter! And all OG Thai BBQers know it!) I'll start off to say that I really like their Tom Yum Goon. It has a good kick, and you can also order it with Chicken instead of Shrimp. It's filled with distinctive flavors - and even at mild level, it jump starts the meal just right. Lemongrass and strawmushrooms. It's so simple but it fits the bill. Now on to the namesake: S-1. Who needs to look at the menu ever again after uttering this letter-number combo just once? The chicken is great! Half a chicken sauced THEN BBQed to a nice level of crispy and juice. Thai BBQ foods is real original: Don't mistake it for American style BBQ, because it's laden with spices that American grills have never heard of. The chicken is served with Shrimp Fried Rice. My take on the rice is I'm not that impressed. My mom makes better fried rice than this.... But if you really like it here a hint: Fry some rice with ketchup and sugar and that's exactly the flavor you'll get, hence the color. Roast duck, the worst dish ever! Burnt, tough, not edible at all. I tried to register my complaint with Uber Eats, but it refused to refund my money; they said I would have to wait! Wait for what?? This is the second time I ordered this dish; the first time was several months ago. I thought they would know how to cook it right by now. But no! Keep in mind that I'm not reviewing the location in Glendale but rather the restaurant as a whole. If you can do that, read on. First off: HANDS DOWN (and I don't usually abuse this phrase but for this restaurant it's rather appropriate) the best Thai BBQ sauce in the planet! I would insist that you have to try it for yourself. They sell it in a bottle too that you can take home with you. Pretty steep for around $5 per bottle but still worth it. Secondly, HOUSE SPECIALS S1 through S12 which all comes with their really awesome Shrimp Fried Rice. Lay the menu on the table, close your eyes, then use your pointy finger to drop it in the House Special section of the menu. Wherever your finger lands, order it and I'll assure you it's something good. I've tried ALL 12 house specials here and none of it was a disappointment. My personal favorite is the Sweet Angel (S6). You get two huge stuffed thai angel wings with a special sauce made out of their original Thai BBQ sauce. Yumster in the tumster! I've tried other angel wings from other Thai restaurants but none of them comes close to this one. My next fave is the Chicken Ruby Dinner (S11). Same idea as the Sweet Angel, only you get a whole stuffed cornish hen instead of the wings. Just thinking about it makes me salivate right now. One can never go wrong with the Kai Yang Dinner (S1). It's their Thai BBQ Chicken dinner, probably the most popular dish that they have. Another people's choice would be the BBQ Pork Spare Rib Dinner (S2). So if you happen to be here for the first time and you don't know what to get, try either the S1 or S2. Other dishes I've tried in the menu outside of the House Specials are the Chicken Curry, Pad Thai, and Pad See Ew. Curry's really good, but the Pad Thai and Pad See Ew are just alright, I've had better. I've been coming to this place for over a decade now and this is basically my safe bet for those Thai BBQ cravings. I can't believe I spent my good money here. This place was horrible. How do you ruin Thai ice tea and Pad Thai? Well, come here and find out. And by the way bring a wipe with you so that you can clean the dirty, sticky tables. They are filthy. If I could give it minus 10 stars, I would! The Thai ice tea was the worst we've ever tasted. It was very sweet and thick, a weird constituency. They are very stingy with any sauce you order on curry or Panang or prik king, you get very little sauce and it is watered down. I mean, who does that? When we were there we noticed every single customer was filipino and so were the servers. I don't think this is an authentic Thai place, the food certainly does not taste like it. The Pad Thai was the worst, soggiest mess you've ever seen. We could not eat more than two bites. We left it on our table. when we told our server later that it was inedible she said she would tell the manager whom later came over and scolded us telling us that we should not have eaten any of it if that was the case. Of course we paid for it anyway and did not ask for it to be taken off the bill, but her attitude was nasty. The Shrimp had about 4 or 5 small shrimp that had obviously come from frozen small shrimp, rubbery and tasteless. We not only paid for the food, but paid for it later with severe food poisoning. I've been to this place twice and the two experiences were very, very different. The first time I went with my boyfriend and his family and had dine-in. The second time I went I got takeout. The beef and chicken sate dinner were both really good though! Cooked and seasoned beautifully. Service was okay, nothing horrendous. The servers came by once in a while and quietly checked up on us, refilling our waters here and there. The servers are mostly older Asian ladies and sometimes there can be a slight language barrier, but not so thick that you can't get your message across. I do warn you, however, do not get their fried rice...of any kind. I got it for the first time yesterday for takeout and the minute I saw it, I knew it wasn't going to be a Thai staple. And the second I opened the container, my thoughts were solidified as the sweet smell of ketchup filled the air...and as I tasted it, I felt as though I was eating rice literally mixed with ketchup. Went here with my family for dinner on Sunday night and it was so packed so I thought they must have really good food. We were seated around 7:20PM and placed our orders within the next 5 mins. The service was so slow that I already finished my Thai tea waaaay before our food even arrived (totally understandable at first bc there were other customers). Food finally got served past 8PM! Food is 1/5, to sum it up the FOOD WAS BLAND AND WAS SERVED COLD. It looks like the dishes were pre-made and were "heated" in the microwave. Didn't take photos of the food bc I don't want to keep photos of disappointing meals. Service is 1/5. No smiles or checking in at all. My dad asked for a cup of HOT rice and it took 10 mins to get the cup of rice served. My dad paid for the food and we headed out. As we were walking outside, the head server lady (wearing high bun with flowers on her hair) chased us all the way down the street 20ft away from the restaurant to ask in a RUDE & ANGRY tone "is this your receipt?! Is this your receipt?! are you really not going to tip my servers?!" Turns out my dad didn't tip bc of how horrible the food & the service was. He didn't ask to return the cold food bc he felt bad for the workers having to redo the food so he just kept the cold food and didn't tip instead. My dad was already in the car when that happened and i was in so shock on what the server lady did so I just wrote $8 on the tip bc i felt empathetic to the workers & i know food service is a tough job. But FORCING A TIP TO CUSTOMERS IS JUST RUDE. Shrimp Fried Rice: it was served cold and doesn't look or taste like fried rice at all. It taste like a room temperature steamed rice with some tomato-y orange sauce and the shrimp were just toppings. Shrimp doesn't even look like it touched the wok for fried rice bc it was just pink and no hint of fried edges at all. My dad even asked our server if it's actually fried rice bc of how it looks and taste. The server was like uhh yes it was cooked in a pan but you can clearly see that he was trying to avoid answering the question. Tom Yum Goong: this was the only thing that got served hot bc it was served on a pot over a gel burner. The soup taste watered down mushroom water with a hint of sourness for tom yum. BBQ Spareribs: also served cold. The sauce was tasty but the meat was dry and so tough it was like eating a jerky. Never coming back to this place. Drive a few miles to Thai Town where you will get authentic Thai Food. There are several locations spread throughout LA and OC County and I've probably dined at all of them. They are pretty much consistent with flavor and the only major difference is their service. I was out in the area to meet my Mr Machismo. I have to admit, dating someone who doesn't have a diverse palate is definitly challenging. You get about 8 sticks that are just honestly so good! The accompanying sauce for this is their peanut sauce which is yummy as well. I usually come to this place once every few months to enjoy a meal because they serve decent food here. I usually order the fried rice because its so good and the amount of rice they give is perfect for me. They also serve some BBQ Spare Ribs here, which is surprisingly good. Well, for my last visit, I decided I'd get something from the "house specialty" menu, so I ordered the Honey Duck. The meal was a little disappointing. First off, it's served with fried rice, which normally would be a good thing for me, except that it was Shrimp Fried Rice. I don't like shrimp, so we asked if we could change it to Beef Fried Rice. They said we could, but it'd be an additional charge. Don't really think that's fair that they only serve one type of rice with the meal, and then charge us extra for when we want a slight difference. I mean, not everyone likes shrimp. Btw, all "house specialty" dishes are served with Shrimp Fried Rice. Anyway, when the food arrived, the Duck itself was a little too crispy and dry. I had a hard time finding any tender meat on the whole thing. It was mostly just crispy skin, fat, and bone. I ended up mostly eating the rice and only picked at the duck a bit since it was mostly inedible. I will be back since I enjoy some of their other dishes, I'll just avoid the Honey Duck from now on. My favorite place to eat Thai in Glendale no matter how bad the reviews are. It just tastes extremely authentic. I usually get the coconut soup (Tom Kha) with chicken which is so delicious. My go to is "S1" the barbecue chicken plate which is always good. I always order a side of the green chili's because when you pour the vinegar and chillis on your fried rice that comes with the S1 it melts in your mouth. So so good. I haven't eaten here so I wouldn't know how the service is, but whenever I order take out, the food comes out on time and is warm and still delicious so I had no issues so far. This place is decent. I usually order the Beef Panang with a side of white rice and a Thai Iced Tea. This is a very good dish. The meat is tender the panang curry has good flavor, the jalepenos and chili oil give the dish a nice burn of the mouth. Add some rice and you're set. The Thai Iced Tea helps cool the spicy. Overall this is my favorite dish from here. I have tried the BBQ chicken, chicken Satay, beef Satay, and garlic beef, and garlic short rib(pork). If you don't like spicy go for the chicken Satay or the garlic beef with a side of rice. I have yet to try other dishes. This place is decently priced but you can get carried away ordering other stuff and before you know rack up a pretty good bill. The atmosphere is good and is located in a good area of Glendale. I've been coming here with my husband and his family for a few years now. When he first brought me I fell in love with their spicy shrimp soup. It's been about 6 months now that when we've coming here the food just doesn't taste as good as it used to. It lacks flavor. The service is eh.. not the best. I have come here several times over the past few years and the consistency of the food has always remained the same. They don't have Sriracha and I'm a huge fan of it so I bring my own bottle. They do have their own house sauce they serve with the S-2 it's good too but I love/need a spicy kick with my meal. Their house sauce is more of like a sweet and sour sauce. I had a craving for sone pad Thai. This is the spot that is one of the best and closest to me. There was no wait when I stopped in just after 1PM. I'm sure the lunch crowd had just left. Anyway, I was seated quickly and brought a high chair just as fast, for my lil girl who was dining with me. The hubby joined us shortly after being seated. Everything was clean and comfy. We ordered two of our rather usual dishes, pad Thai with chicken and the beef panang curry. The flavors were all on point. The noodles were obviously just made, steam coming from them and the light scent of tamarind filled the air within the space of our booth. The dry peanuts and green onion on the side were the perfect compliments. The beef panang curry was tasty but I felt like some of the chunks of beef were either rushed in their cooking OR it was too lean and didn't have any fat on it to make it more tender. The beef chunks that seemed rushed or too lean, when you chewed 'em, they also seemed dry inside. I ended up eating around the meat but drenching my single portion of rice with the actual curry itself. The flavor was SO good! The combo of those two items hit the spot! Not having looked at the menu and not having been there for a minute, we didn't look to see if there were anything new and we also didn't look at prices. To our surprise, when we got the bill, we noticed that prices had gone up. That was a lil shock. So, for the 2 portions of rice which really means 2 single bowls of rice...one for each person, the curry and the noodles, lunch was $25 before tip. Now, that's not super expensive but as aforementioned, it was just a tad more than what we were used to. This place is one of my favorites in LA. It's not upscale like Saladang is. It's just your meat and potatoes kind of place. The shrimp themselves aren't scattered throughout the dish like at a Chinese restaurant. This place has 3 medium sized shrimp on top of the rice. One good thing about the shrimp is that the tails are off. A definite plus. Another thing about this combo is that you are not a fan of rice, you can order steamed veggies instead. Another plus. I have yet to order anything else on the menu, but this dish alone is reason for me to come from the SGV to go eat there. One thing that I did want to mention was that it had been at least a couple of years since I have been there and I don't remember the chicken portions being that small. I know that there is a recession and times are tough, but I just wished that their pollos were a bit bigger. WAIT STAFF The service was pretty quick.. It seemed like even before I got really situated at the table, the food came out. Woah! I don't know if that is necessarily a good thing or not. But the food was hot and good, and that is all that matters. The people there are pretty friendly and give you service with a smile. I didn't even have to ask for more water, a waiter was there to replenish the H2O happily. There aren't too many Asian restaurants that provide that kind of service, in my opinion. Food Taste have not differed through its years of operation. What has changed is the amount of food as well as the source for their ingredients. In the past with their S-1, the chicken parts would be a lot bigger but now the chicken seem to have shrunk along with the increase in the orange colored rice. Restaurant is still a popular place for Filipinos & Asians as a general rule because they still have a Thai cook and Thai servers for authenticity. Every time I come back home to eat with my family I go to this spot. Definitely one of my favorites back in high school. I've read the reviews and saw that it was quite mixed and some were unfair to even leave a bad review, but you win some, you lose some. I had a good experience. I did only order the chicken larb, spicy. And it was delicious and flavorful. So I can't speak for other dishes.. My water was constantly being refilled so I had no problems w service.
