This was our first time dining at Thai Orchard. We arrived around 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon so it wasn't very busy. We were warmly greeted and seated immediately in a booth I requested located on the outer edges of the room vs. the 4-top tables. We started with the order of 6 Crispy Veggie Egg Rolls which were delicious. Light, flaky, crisp-tender veggies and not oily in the least. My husband said he would come in just for these!! My husband ordered his normal Hot Pork Pad Thai. It is a very large order with lots of stir-fried noodles, bean sprouts, egg, green onions and crushed peanuts. He said it was now a tie for his favorite Pad Thai restaurant. I ordered my normal Chicken Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles) with the large, flat noodles plus egg, green beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and bell peppers in a Thai basil sauce. The veggies were crisp-tender, the chicken was flavorful and tender plus there were many flat noodles. I really enjoyed and the leftovers reheat well. The menu offers all the traditional entrees from Thai Noodles, Stir-Fries, Fried Rices, Seafood, Soups and Salads. We rarely have dessert after Thai food but Thai Orchid carries the normal Thai desserts of sticky rice, mango, fried bananas and ice cream. If you're dining with the little ones they also offer a kids menu with several options of chicken nuggets, fried rice, battered shrimp or chicken tenders. Beverage options are Beer, Wine, Coke products, Thai Iced Tea or Thai Iced Coffee, Palm juice/Coconut juice and 4 hot teas. As we were paying I saw the Thai Iced Tea which looked amazing and I can't wait to try. Parking is directly across from the restaurant in the lot, the service was excellent and our meals were outstanding! read more

As we've continued to come here we have been very happy and have had zero issues. Previous: The staff here are impeccable, but our last few visits have had some consistent issues. It started with my shrimp dish being 65% cabbage. It wasn't even that I didn't have enough shrimp. I did and they were delicious, albeit lukewarm. As a matter of fact, the dish was a mixture of lukewarm and cool. I love cabbage in their dishes, but the plating almost was to disguise the cabbage filler. Next trip, both of our entrees were cool and the fried rice had a taste like cleaner or chemical. Let me add, we didn't say anything and I know it would have been handled appropriately. The staff are tremendous, but we chalked it up to a couple of minor hiccups. After all, we had been here every Friday Night for weeks. Finally, on our last visit our satay appetizer was cold. Ice cold. It's no surprise they pre-cook these and reheat to order. These just came straight out of the fridge and to our table. We did say something and they offered to correct it (we declined) and they served us a dessert on the house. I'm sure we'll be back after the taste of cold spongy chicken leaves our memories. After all, the food is normally wonderful!! The Tom Yum soup is seriously delicious!! read more

Delicious Food , Good service, i absolutely love the pad thai here and the interior is really nice and the servers are super nice ! My sister loves it here read more

Mixed feelings. The spring rolls with peanut sauce were delicious! The sauce is more like a peanut curry with crushed peanuts in it--fabulous. The red chicken curry was what caused my mixed feelings. The curry sauce was perfect--I ordered mild and it was still spicy, so be careful. The chicken was mostly over cooked and chewy. The vegetables were cooked slightly, but definitely had a bite to them, which I actually liked. I give these two dishes a 3 star because there were elements that were very good, but in some areas, fell short. Probably worth trying again the next time I'm in Indianapolis. read more

Some of the best Thai food in the Indianapolis area. Average prices and a very large menu.

Most food items are excellent at this place. I recommend the Pad Thai, unique and excellent. Lobster rangoons were small but quite good. Little on the pricey side but you can get two meals out of the Oad Thai for instance. Good atmosphere, intimate. Good date place. Recommended. read more

Passable Thai food for Plainfield Indiana, but why did I only get a dash of pepper when I asked for "Extra Spicy"? Met up with a friend from Terre Haute in Plainfield and after discussing our options we decided upon Thai Orchid to hopefully enjoy those fresh and balanced flavors of Thailand. The menu is Extensive. A bit too extensive really as there are multiple dishes repeated throughout the menu that only change slightly in form, be it with rice, rice noodle, stir-fry, egg noodle, or salad form. At least the waiting staff was attentive and answered any questions I had because it took awhile to get through the whole menu. In the end I decided upon the Eggplant Delight (Extra Spicy, the 2nd hottest) and fish cakes for an appetizer. I previously had Thai fish cakes at a restaurant in Chicago and was blown away by the fresh herbs, spices, and delicate fish that exploded from the crispy small patty exterior. Well, Thai Orchid's fish cakes certainly do not live up to Chicago's. Mushy and a bit bland, these fish cakes were far from fresh and tasted as though they came from a frozen bag in the back of the freezer. The Eggplant Delight was however rather tasty. Nicely stirred-fried eggplant slices are always a favorite of mine, so they already started off at a high level for me. However, it was the shear lack of heat that I was most put off by. Even though I clearly stated how much I enjoy spicy food to the waitress and was excited for a decent burn, my eggplant dish could be barely considered 'moderately spicy'. All in all, Thai Orchid was an Ok experience. Would I go back? If I was near by and hungry, sure. But I'm certainly not going to drive the 40mins from Indy to relive that experience again. read more

I only have this place 1 star! We ordered many things but the dishes that had chicken; chicken was tough, it tasted as if it was old or not "pounded out"! The only dish that looked good was the papaya salad, and it was not that flavorful. We won be coming back. Note: We've been to the Thai Orchid on Bash Street/86th. It is always good. They knows us in there!! read more

Having tried about a half dozen Thai places around Indy, I can heartily endorse dining here. We stopped in for lunch (about $8 each) and got the entree, a small bowl of soup (coconut milk vegetable soup on our visit), a crispy phyllo dough wrapped spring roll with a sweet sour dipping sauce, a small salad with ginger dressing, and of course, the choice of meats and spiciness level for our entrees. We were greeted as we entered and service, while maybe a little understaffed due to a nearly full house, did a pretty good job of keeping up with our needs. Complimentary water was brought out in addition to our beverages. I ordered a small pot of tea and got just over 1 1/2 cups (a little on the low end compared to other places.) My wife does not do well with spicy foods, so when she ordered the Pad Piew Wan with pork and low spice level, she got a large meal with a tasty sweet and sour sauce that suited her well. She was very pleased with the taste and the comfort level of the spice. I went with my standard Pad See Ewe (I like to get this the first time at any Thai restaurant which makes it easier for me to compare for ratings.) I opted for the chicken and a medium level of spicy heat. The chicken was moist and had a pleasing taste on its own. The spice level was one that seemed low when it started but eventually raised as I ate more. I would say it ended on a medium level which was fine. Strange how some places build the heat while others deliver it from the start without getting hotter. Not sure what different spices each place uses. The noodles were slippery without being slimy. The taste was very pleasing. The veggies were cooked just beyond al dente, so there was texture without being tough. Overall, I thought this was a great value for lunch (and maybe some leftovers for light eaters.) I would gladly return to try more entrees. Review #343 read more

By far one of the best Thai restaurants in Indy and Im glad its in my town of Plainfield. I could eat it every day if it wasnt for those dang carbs :) Their service has always been great every time we have visited. We get seated quickly, and food comes out equally as fast. Prices are very decent as well. I mean Lunch specials starting at $7.99? Thats a pretty good deal if you ask me. Lunch specials come with soup, salad and a spring roll with good sized portions. My favorites dishes are as follows: Pad Thai: Its my go to dish at any Thai restaurant. If the Pad Thai is good then I know I've chosen a good spot. Well, guess what? Thai Orchid makes a mean Pad Thai. All the flavors are there and its very filling. Thai Fried Rice: This is my husband's and kids go to dish. Fried rice mixed with eggs, tomato, onion and carrots. They love to add chicken or crab as well. Its always been very flavorful and we always have enough left to take home. Thai Dumpling Appetizer: These steamed dumplings are very flavorful and decent sized. A must try for sure. One last thing. They have levels of spice here if you want to add a little kick to your lunch or dinner. They range from mild, medium, medium hot, hot, extra hot, and Thai hot. I personally havent tried them becuase I dont do spice but my husband has tried extra hot and oh man it is hella hot! I cant even imagine Thai Hot. Overall, This place is great..You should try it What are you waiting for? read more

I've been coming to the Thai Orchid over the last year, and each time the staff has been courteous and prompt. We usually get seated quickly and the food comes out just as fast! I usually go there for lunch as their specials are very filling and inexpensive, running approximately $8. It's a great bargain considering that i spend less than $40 when I take my wife and kids there for lunch. You can choose from 5 different spice levels in your meals. Mild, medium, hot, extra hot, and Thai hot! I'm a spicy food lover and I usually range from hot to Thai hot... And you can certainly tell the difference in spiciness! Thai Orchid has a broad variety of dishes, and they have all been delicious thus far. Their Thai fried rice comes with your choice of pork, chicken or beef, and for a small up charge ($2) you can get shrimp or seafood added to your dish. Your lunch will come with a portion of salad with mustard dressing, as well as a fried spring roll. It really hits the spot for a lunch meal! The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars is because we habe noticed that recently their portion size on their lunch specials has gotten smaller while the fist had gone up. I understand it's a business, but finding a good bargain is hard to find now a days. read more

I am a huge fan of Thai especially Pad Thai. Fresh ingredients, lots of vegetables and layers of flavor are my expectation. This was close to Target where I had gone from my hotel. I arrived a was immediately seated even though it was dinner hour. I ordered the Vegetable stir fry with chicken. My food arrived promptly and after 2 bites I noticed there was no chicken. As I looked for my server she arrived with a plate that had chicken and removed the plate that I had started. I felt bad that they would throw that food away. She should have just given it to me since she made the error and I had already started to eat it. However, she took my plate and walked away so fast that I didn't even get to ask. It was good. The chicken had good flavor and a bit of spice. There were plenty of vegetables and variety. It was a good amount of food for $11.99. read more

Love this Thai restaurant in Plainfield! They have the best lunch special! You get a huge meal, delicious soup, and a spring roll all for $7.99. The food portions are large and I was even able to take some home for later! Great service and the food is always so tasty. I wish there was a Thai place like this closer to where I live! Will be returning here soon for more amazing food! My favorite menu item is the appetizer crab Rangoons! read more

Despite saying that we would never be back, within this past year we decided to give Thai Orchid another shot. This review is based on our 4-5 visits within the past year. I have to say, the service is MUCH better & MUCH friendlier than it was for the first year it was open. The regular chefs/cooks consistently have a better hand with spice levels & seasoning than this restaurant had for the 1st year of operation. I would feel comfortable bringing out of town guests back to this restaurant again if they wanted Thai. It's still not our favorite Thai food in the Metro Indy area...but it's nice to have in Plainfield. read more

Food was authentic and flavorful with good portion sizes. Pricing was excellent with good service in nice atmosphere. Main detriment was inconsistency in spiciness between comparable dishes ordered at different heat levels. read more

Food was good as was the service..no complaints here. First time trying Thai food so didnt really know what to expect

The food was delicious but a bit too spicy for me. They did not know much about gluten intolerance or Celiac, which is a shame. The waiters, servers, and management were great. If you are Celiac like me, order the rice noodles and if you like spicey this is the place. read more

My husband and I have been here numerous times and the food is OK. Good enough to fill your Thai craving. However, the last time we attempted to dine in, they were busy, but not packed. We stood waiting to be seated (per the sign) for FIVE MINUTES and we weren't acknowledged at all. Not even a "be with you in a moment," NOTHING. I have worked in the restaurant industry before and I am very understanding of when people are busy and that you are not always seated immediately, but this was almost blatant. We left. We will not be returning. read more

It was great! Thanks to the yelpers, I stopped in with mi madre for the $7 lunch! She had pad khee Mao, I had green curry! Both were good, very filling and very cheap! I wish I had more to add, but it was definitely good enough to come back on my next trip to Indy! read more

I love Thai food so whenever I am visiting family in Plainfield and we plan to eat out, Thai Orchid is one of our favorite spots. I have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. Last night I finally made a trip to Plainfield after being cooped up for almost 3 months due to the pandemic. We decided to get carryout from Thai Orchid. I got my usual Pad Kee Mao (aka drunken noodles) with chicken. It was just as good as if we had eaten in. Lots of noodles, chicken, tomatoes (which I love in this dish!), red pepper, carrots, etc. A huge serving that I couldn't finish. My mother ordered the Cashew Nut with chicken which she enjoyed and my daughter who is always trying something different went with the Red Curry with pork. She thought it was really good although still likes the Massamun Curry best. Highly recommend this little place. If you eat in, I have found the service has always been very fast. read more

Although I've been back in the Midwest for nearly 3 years, I'm still surprised by the variety and quality of the Thai food available in Indy. Thai Orchid is no exception. My inaugural visit was quite nearly perfect, from the tiny dish of Thai coleslaw topped with crunchy peanuts that teasingly begins every meal, to my complex yet balanced red curry, to our cheerful and helpful server who never let our glasses become less than half full. Tips: -Entrees are prepared with your preferred level of spice: mild, medium, medium hot, hot, extra hot, and Thai hot. Medium was perfect for me. -Try the Thai iced tea (it arrives topped with a sweet paper rose). -They currently offer a discount if you check in on Facebook, but you have to spend at least $30. (no problem if you get an appetizer and/or sticky rice with mango, which you should absolutely do). read more

This place is delicious. Very clean which is important. We came on a Saturday and were seated right away and served right away. I ordered the shrimp fried rice medium hot and my husband got the chicken pad Thai medium hot. We were brought a cole slaw type of dish (sorry I don't know what it is called). It was so good. It had a vinegar on it and it was a crowd pleaser. Our food came out so fast. I want to say within 10 minutes of ordering. It was amazing. Best fried rice I have had. I was regretting my order after placing it but I was so happy it was good. My husbands pad Thai was great too. The portions are giant! Neither one of us came close to finishing our meals. I would recommend getting 2 different dishes and sharing here. read more
