One of my favorite Thai places. Lovely decor and elegant table set up. The food is simply great, the service so friendly, big portions and reasonable prices. For me, that's an all-around win. I generally order the Padd Thai with chicken medium heat whenever I go to a Thai restaurant. It's pretty much 'THE' national dish and you can tell a lot from the way a restaurant prepares the 'basic' dishes.Here it is beautifully done, nicely flavored, a little spice, but it wont set you on fire. I might even up it to 'hot' next time. Not only is it delicious, but all dishes here are beautifully presented. I enjoy pretty food. Love the hot tea here also. You get a little pot and your cup on a cute tray. Nice. Dont' forget to get some egg rolls, they are yummy. Crispy and flaky on the outside without being greasy and have a tasty filling. My family and I had the pleasure of having Thai Lanna for the first time for the #YelpBigNightIn event. I'm not sure why it took me so long to try this Thai restaurant but I'm SO glad I did! A few people told me how good it was and boy were they right! Since we've been quarantined I've had a few bad experiences with deliveries but this restaurant did not disappoint. From the service over the phone to little details where they put a kind notes on every container was a nice touch. With everyone going through such a rough time financially due to the virus and being quarantined their gratitude was felt and appreciated. The food was flavorful and they give you a lot. It was hot, fresh and visually appealing (even in takeout boxes). They got my online order (via Door Dash) right. I'm always double checking due my nut allergies. My mom is not a big Thai fan but she couldn't stop talking about how tender the pepper steak was. I enjoyed everything especially the vegetarian Pad Thai. That received great reviews from fellow Yelpers so I had to try it. I will definitely order from Thai Lanna again. Thank you so much for a great experience. My pictures doesn't do this food justice. Our plan was to go to Pho 36 a few doors down, but they were closed. We chose Thai Lanna because one of our guests had just eaten at Ugly Crab, our second choice. Life worked it out perfectly because the restaurant was quiet, had a nice ambience and options for all of our palates. Our party of 3 shared the Thai Egg Roll appetizer, which came with 5 beautiful golden rolls and a dipping sauce. Two of us were fortunate to have one apiece to take home. We each had vegetarian meals: 28 Pahd Kee Mao (Stir-fried with flat noodle, broccoli, cabbage, bell pepper, carrot & basil) medium heat for me, 35 Pahd Sweet & Sour (Sauce stir-fried with tomato, cucumber, onion, bell pepper, pineapple, baby com, snow peas, carrot & celery) hot heat for mom and 48 Thai Fried Rice (Stir-fried with jasmine rice, egg, onion,carrot, snow peas & green onion) medium for our guest. Our guest doesn't tolerate sweetness well and was hesitant about eating Thai. The waiter couldn't answer her query about unsweetened food, so the chef/owner came out to assure her that she doesn't over-sweeten and suggested the Thai Fried Rice. We were all pleased with the heat level and taste of the food. My mom was looking for more tomatoes than she received, but it did not detract from her experience. We all had to-go containers. My mom had to ask for a second one to keep her rice and veggies separate. We all agreed that we would return thanks to the food quality and quantity. I've had really good tasting Thai food before, but when you add great service and a fair price, that calls for a five-star review! When I first got to the restaurant, I had this sense of deja vu...the strip mall has lots of food places including Pho 36 which I have already reviewed. Because of my timing (lunch on Sunday), there wasn't too much of a crowd and I found parking near the entrance. Note that if you approach from the east you will have to turn onto the side road just passed the restaurant to pull in since a median divides the heavy traffic on US 36 where the restaurant entrance is located. Inside, the restaurant looks a lot like many other strip mall places, but the owners have tried to add a sense of Thailand with numerous wall hangings and photos, and some tastefully arranged table flowers. The tables are glass topped with tablecloths underneath. I was greeted and informed I could choose my own table going with a 2-top along the left wall. There was one woman covering the front end of the house and she did a great job: greeting customers, bringing water, taking orders, checking on the kitchen, and just about anything else that needed done. I ordered the small sized Egg Drop Soup and my 'go to' for ordering my first time at a Thai place: Pahd See Ew (or something spelled very much like this since it is different everywhere I go!) The 'small' soup bowl arrived in a covered dish about the size of a softball and must have had about a pint of soup! It was served steaming hot, so I had to stir it quite awhile before tasting it. (I find this a common mistake of most restaurants having the soup way too hot to eat right away, especially when most customers want to eat and finish the soup before the entree arrives.) The soup was not as thick as I've had elsewhere, but truly more soup-like, especially with the veggies, tofu, and mushrooms added. Still plenty of egg, with a slightly different, but very delicious flavor than expected. It wasn't long after finishing the soup that my square plate of ornately presented wide noodles arrived. The plate was about 10" across and was filled fairly close to the edge for a fair sized serving. In one corner was a "garden" of shredded cabbage and a 'flower' made from a raw carrot. (I ate them all!) The entree was ordered with chicken as my protein and at medium heat. The first few bites definitely were tingling the back of my palate as I adjusted to the spice level, but it didn't get hotter as I ate and I knew I had the right level for me. What I appreciate was that the flavor of the food didn't get masked by the heat. The thick, wide noodles were fork tender and were coated with that somewhat sweet and savory sauce that I love in my Thai food. There were chopped cabbage leaves, slightly larger than julienned carrots, broccoli florets, and 1/8" thick slices of chicken throughout the plate. Truly some of the best Pahd See Ew I've had! When I finish a meal, especially when on my own, I usually set my finished plates to the other side of my table and grab my wallet. The woman who was running the front end immediately brought over my check and since she was paying attention that I was pulling out my wallet, she waited instead of running off so that she could process my bill and reduce my wait time. Thai Lanna is one of my favorite Thai restaurants. The décor is warm and inviting with a comfortable atmosphere and soft, relaxing music. The service has always been great and each meal has been consistently good. Yes, it is located along Rockville Road, an incredibly busy 4 lane road, in a small strip center. Once your inside the stress of the outside world seems to disappears. Thai Lanna serves lunch and dinner. Dinner selections are the Thai standards of salads, noodles, fried rice dishes, stir-fried, and curry options. They serve lunch Monday through Friday (11-2). The lunch options ($8.95) come with soup and a wonton. We've had the Thai Veggie Egg Rolls and the steamed pork Dumplings. Both are very good. I do miss the egg rolls that came with the lunch selections and replaced with a wonton. After making your entree decision select your meat, vegetarian or tofu. Then determine your favorite spice level from no spice, medium, hot to Thai hot. Start with a lower spice level if your not a spicy person. Hubby has tried the Phad Sweet and Sour with stir-fried pork (choice of meat, tofu or vegetarian) with tomato, cucumber, onion, bell pepper, pineapple, carrot and celery. It's very flavorful with lots of veggies. His favorite entree is the Spicy Fried Rice with egg, onions, bell peppers, carrots, tomato, green onions, snow peas and basil. If you enjoy fried rice then try this. I am hooked on PahdKee Mao ( Drunken Noodle) with choice of stir-fried meat, flat noodles, mushrooms, onions, tomato, bell pepper and basil. I love the sauce, the large, tender noodles and all the veggies. When I do want a change I enjoy the Massaman Curry with choice of meat/tofu in coconut milk, Massaman curry paste, potatoes, onions, brocolli, carrots and ground peanuts. I came here for lunch on this cold rainy January day, the menu had all the classic Thai dishes, I ordered the yellow curry with chicken in medium heat. It was perfect!!! The portion, the side dish it came with, and sweet Thai tea drink! I had a great first time trying the egg-drop soup. Same with the service being fantastic, the owner was serving me; very polite and helpful. The restaurant is cute & peaceful, best Thai restaurant I've been too. Apparently pad Thai is now $16.95 and crab rangoons are $9.95, wow. I'm pretty sure I can get a nice steak and a baked potato for that. Try the Pahd Thai, Mango Red Curry, and the Thai Summer Roll with shrimp. Check this jewel out in Avon, IN. I have to admit that this place has been around in Avon, IN for three years now and this is the first opportunity we dined there. The saying, "It was worth the wait" applies in this instance. We left full, refreshed, and with plans to come right back with friends. You have not had Thai until you've been here. Well decorated, very clean, cozy dining room, and well attentive staff are certainly making a presence at this restaurant. The menu was not cluttered with a lot of variations of the same dish, offered a great variety for everyone's tastes, and coverage the bases to appeal to the most finicky diners. We started our meal off with he Summer Rolls topped with fresh shrimp. They featured a nice, cool soybean wrap and were light and refreshing with the peanut sauce. We then selected the Spicy Lemon Grass Soup, which was amazing. Hearty chunks of tomato, onion, lemon grass, and other veggies complimented the clear, lime, cilantro, and green onion medley. This would make a great lunch for those looking to cut back and eat healthy. For our entrees, we sampled the featured Mango Red Curry, which was prepared on the mild scale to our liking. However, we elected to try two other dishes since we were in the state of adventure, since this was a new experience. To our further amazement, the Pahd Cashew Nut with shrimp and the Pahd Thai shrimp exceeded our expectations. Generous portions, fresh selections of veggies and shrimp (I might add they were flavorful and 25-30 count size), along with the very best quality jasmine rice with black sesame seeds for garnish, arrived to our table within a very quick amount of time. As we dove into the dishes, you could taste why Thai is my new favorite cuisine. Thai uses fresh herbs, vegetables, and seasonings to enhance the natural flavors of the ingredients. You won't find soy sauce to mask the flavor or heavy, thick sauces. Crisp, clean, and light, the entrees left use full and content. We took half of each entrée home as well. Sometimes people get intimidated to try new foods from different cultures, but Thai Lanna serves these dishes from a colorful menu with featured dish pictures and menu descriptions. They also serve any dish with different degrees of heat. You can go plain with no spice, Mild, Medium, Hot, and THAI HOT. Try at your risk since I selected "hot" on one dish and it cleared my head with a pleasant and surprisingly HOT bite. I am not complaining by any means...I loved it. I am just trying to set the tone so you won't go over board. Sample, sample, sample and you will enjoy the experience. The wait staff is truly attentive to every detail. Fine linen napkins, tidy table tops, and rich atmosphere provided for an unbelievable dining experience. Our glasses were full, dirty dishes were quickly removed, and the table was well prepared between courses. We were in and out within an hour and we enjoyed our long conversation with the owner, Kelly, who was on site and working her magic in the kitchen. We discussed her inspirations for her dishes and complimented her on the experience. My recommendation is to try a little adventure and visit Thai Lanna in Avon, IN. The prices are very reasonable for the portions and this is going to be our new home for while. I am sure if you are looking for a fresh new place to try out, you will leave pleased and impressed. My wife and I were huge fans of the recently closed Thai Thai restaurant in Avon, so we figured we'd give Thai Lanna a go when our most recent Thai craving struck. It was ok, but mostly made us miss Thai Thai. We started off with the Thai "crab cake" appetizer, which was actually pretty good. We usually get dumplings, but decided to change it up. We then ordered a curry dish and two noodle dishes (leftovers are always great to have for lunch!). The curry was good - a little more mild than I expected a medium spice level to be, but it had a good flavor and consistency. The noodle dishes were both good, but lacked flavor. They weren't exactly bland, but just didn't have the flavor I was expecting. Is this a new favorite? No, but it'll do in a pinch. I don't know for a fact but I think the majority of Thai food in Indianapolis is "Americanized". At Thai Lanna, I had a similar experience of not thinking I was actually eating authentic Thai food. There is one great Chinese/Thai restaurant on the east side of Indianapolis near Washington square mall. It is always packed and makes a ton of money. The owner doesn't even open the restaurant on weekends. You can make authentic Thai food and people will eat it. I started with the fried crab cakes. The dipping sauce was full of flavor and sadly better than the actual crab cakes. My crab cakes were on the greasy side, but not enough to send back. Overall, there was very little flavor, and I tasted no crab. The cost was $6.95 and I am suggesting you avoid these. I would rate these a two out of five. I ordered the Khao Soi special for $13.95 even though they wound up charging me $14.95. I ordered the dish at the Thai Hot level and told the waitress that I like really hot and spicy food. Of course the dish came out Thai Bland with no heat. I don't know why these places even have a Thai Hot option. On my heat scale it rated a two out of ten, or less heat than a mild taco sauce. The best thing about the dish was the fried noodles you could add to taste. I would rate this dish a 2.5 out of 5. The building is nicely decorated and modern. Everything appeared clean to me. I had no issues with the service. I don't think I will be back unless it was a choice between a chain restaurant and this place. This place is much better than some microwave frozen dinner you get served at so many chain restaurants. If you are bored of chain restaurants and think for yourself and are not manipulated by millions of dollars in TV commercials to make yourself believe you have to eat average to below average overpriced food at some chain restaurant, I am one of you. Pro: The owner is a simply as nice and accommodating as she could possibly be. It is unlikely you will come across lovelier people in a food setting anywhere in Central Indiana. The food is excellent. You get what you ask for every single time. I must have eaten at this restaurant no less than 100 times and I can not think of a single complaint, ever. Con: There is only one Thai Lanna. Some might say that the service is slow and that the food comes out a dish at a time; however, I would say this is a Pro because the food is always high quality and it is like she is making it herself in her own kitchen and is not interested in letting things sit under a hot lamp.
