Probably my least favorite Thai restaurant (and I eat at almost every Thai restaurant I come across). The Glass noodles were literally drenched in lime juice, it was awful and the Panang curry tasted like milk with some spices, no flavor...just milky. On the other hand, I did really like the Pad see ew (my usual dish from Thai restaurants), but everything else did not cut it for me. We went out & found the place on the recommendation from a few fellow Foodies. I think we caught them on a very off day. When we arrived at 11:15ish, there were 4 other tables well into their way of lunch. We still waited about 10 minutes for the server - who was delightfully friendly, yet harried - to bring our drinks. I tried the Thai Tea & I don't know what that stuff was supposed to be, but I won't ever order that again. It was like, ice...a splash of tea...and then topped with a creamy Chai tea mix from a carton?? Not sure & maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but I didn't like that mess at all. A few more tables come in & there is the appearance of a 2nd server. Cool! Getting hangry...maybe someone will take our order? 10 minutes later, our server comes back to do that. So we ordered Spring Rolls, Hot&Sour soup, WonTon Soup, Drunken Noodles for me & Pad Thai for the Hubster. More tables coming in......Good sign? Not a good sign. The other server begins telling people who have already sat down that there will be at least an hour wait for the food. They talk amongst themselves & leave. Uh-oh..... She then greets the other people coming in with the same info, so that they can leave before they sit, at least. We watch this go on for half an hour or so...no server to replace my drink & no appetizers in sight. We start to consider maybe the kitchen is a short-handed catastrophe on the day we chose to visit. Getting hangrier.... FINALLY! Entrees come out! We are told that the spring rolls are out, would we like the Shrimp Rolls instead? Well, we've waited this long....why not? Those came out purty quick. They are like 1 little shrimp rolled into a wonton wrapper & fried. That's it. They went into the whatever category. The soup came out last. Oh yeah...we did order soup, huh? My Hot&Sour was ok, but the WonTon literally had ONE wonton in it. Which we then debated whether or not there was truth in advertising as the menu clearly does not show a plural display for "won ton." No drinks refilled. My drunken noodles had no flavor beyond onion. There was more onion than noodles. Hubster's pad was fine...we've had better. I dunno, folks. My husband loves Thai food and was always taking me to hole in the wall local restaurants which I was not impressed with. After trying Thai kitchen's Red Curry Soup my opinion on Thai food has changed. We are addicted. Spring rolls, chicken coconut soup, chicken Tom yum, and red curry are always delicious. Ate here on a recent Sunday with my hubby. Excellent spring rolls with peanut sauce. Always a pleasure to find the real deal in that category as another Thai restaurant in town has spring rolls on their menu, but they are actually fried egg rolls there. My husband had the curry and was quite happy with it, I had the chicken pad Thai which was as good or better than any place else in town. Staff were pleasant and attentive, but as others noted the location is somewhat sketchy- so not sure I'd try this place for dinner. I'd say the quality of their food outweighs their look/location- we'll definitely be back to sample more menu items in the future. read more

This place is awesome! The only way I found it was on the Yelp reviews. I met a friend for lunch and was a little worried when I drove up. So glad I went in. The restaurant is old but spotless. I have found my new Thai restaurant obsession! I discovered Thai Kitchen online while searching for an alternative to my normal Thai eatery due to it being closed on Sundays. As soon as I Googled "Thai Food", Thai Kitchen popped up and boasted a 4.8 out of 5 stars and that was with 38 reviews!! We got there and only one other table had patrons at the time, we got greeted and seated right away and within 2 minutes we had 2 iced teas, menus, and these crispy, thick, chip like appetizers. We ordered the egg and spring rolls to start along with the Tom Yum Soup with Shrimp and Pad Thai. I was impressed with how fast the food appeared, but you could tell it was made to order and not just sitting under some warmer getting stale. Now I am a DIE HARD loyalist to "my" local Thai restaurant and it is mainly for the amazing hot and sour soup they serve, I've never had anything like it before and it's to die for! It pains me to say this and I lament but I must.....Thai Kitchen's Tom Yum is now my new favorite soup (sobs into her pillow while hoping her old favorite Thai restaurant doesn't find out!). Thai Kitchen's Tom Yum was the perfect blend of spicy, lemony, shrimpy goodness that made me want to weep with joy and order 2 more bowls but I resisted because it gives me an excuse to drag my husband here and convert him to Thai Kitchen as well. Now I did try my daughter's Pad Thai and yes it was quite good, not the best I've ever had but definitely a solid contender and the egg rolls were so good we ordered some to-go. By the time we were leaving the tables were filling up and the wait staff was competently handling the work load. We went into this place expecting good Thai food, but wow. I was not ready. We walk in and the first thing we see is the happiest man, presumably the owner, who greeted us and took our drink orders. The Thai tea was perfect. He handed us some shrimp chips, which were quite tasty. We ordered a pad thai and a drunken noodle. The food was ready in about 7 or 8 minutes, great timing. The service was excellent and very attentive. Food was absolutely perfect, easily best Thai I've ever had. The location was a little strange at first, but you can't miss it with the bright lights and "Thai!" flags out front. Price was very fair - cost about $22 for 2 entrees, one iced tea and 2 thai teas. The fresh Spring Rolls are very good. I have been to Thai Kitchen several times now. I usually go on Sunday as my favorite thai place is closed that day. I have had the beef salad...the meat is not cut properly and is very tough. I also had what I call Thai Beef Basil and again the meat was tough but manageable. Thai kitchen is definitely the best Thai food in Lubbock. I have been to all the others and nothing compares. The curries are all delicious, as is the chicken fried rice and the veggie spring rolls, which my girlfriend and I get every time we go. Every time she comes into town for the weekend we always get Thai kitchen. If you haven't been here, go, and if you've never tried Thai food before, try Thai kitchen.
