I was in town for business and wanted some pad thai. Placed an ordered gyoza and chicken pad thai to go; I like spicy so I ordered level 8 for heat. Just ok, bummed that soup didnt list it had giant chunks of chicken in it (coconut soup) and the vegetarian soup we got had no flavor at all. Hot cabbage water. $12 for no flavor and something we cannot eat. $60 for 2 entrees, 1 tea and 2 soups plus tip. If were gonna spend that it should be really good not just ok. Entrees were good but nothing amazing at $13 a pop. Handful of other places with thai and asian id rather get for less in the area with better flavors. Not worth what we paid. My experience was wonderful! I recently came back from a trip to Thailand where I had the full Thai culinary experience. To find something in Dayton, Ohio that was just as delicious and wonderful was quite a pleasant surprise. The pad thai had the perfect combination of flavors from sweet to savory. I went into Thai Kitchen having heard from plenty of friends and co-workers of how good this place is. I have to say that the service was actually quite fast, contradicting some of the other reviews here. We started with some sushi nigiri (tuna and salmon), but it was not that great. But I did not come here for sushi, oh no, I came to see what was so special. I was not in the peanut or curry mood this day, so I just went for the house lo mein noodles at a spice level of 5. The noodles were not over cooked (as can often be the case) and the sauce was perfectly spiced and had plenty of taste. While I do not argue that Bahn Mai is ultimately a better executed concept as a restaurant, sometimes you just want good food, without the frills and pretense. I believe Thai Kitchen will serve that role well for me! read more

Gotta love a hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant! Came in for lunch with a co-worker, in and out in 45 minutes. I know all you locals will be shocked - but it's in a strip mall!! No ambiance obviously, but I was so pleased to see a ton of ceramic/glass/plastic cats all over the place - they are mechanical and their arms wave and it was hilarious. Not my usual desire for environment, but wow. I had the Amazing Tofu - and was moderately happy with it. The spice was great, but they did go way overboard on the fish sauce (fortunately, I'm a fan), but the scent of fish sauce is currently oozing out of every pore -glad there's no meetings scheduled this afternoon! The sweet and sour soup was quite tasty, but I'm thinking it came out of a bag - it just had that taste. $16.50 for two - that works for me. For a quick lunch or take-out after a long workday, I'll definitely go here again. For a dinner or a high quality meal - not so much. read more

Color me worried. I have been coming to this place since moving to Ohio 6 years ago. I have maintained to all my friends it is the only truly good Asian restaurant I have found in Ohio. But what happened today? First off, I fear they changed hands. I noticed several new faces in the kitchen. Then the food: curry chicken had the usual good flavor, but the chicken was tough and had strange flavor. I suspect it was not fresh. Worse than that was the sushi. We have come to expect fresh, delicious raw from TK but this was not good. The fish was obviously not fresh. I will not give up yet and will try TK once more. Thai Kitchen is what our family affectionately calls the "hole in the wall" restaurant. We LOVE our Thai Kitchen! We've never had a bad meal there. Our favorites are the Pad Thai, Masaman Curry, and Pineapple Fried Rice. Sometimes their spicy levels aren't consistent but we still enjoy every meal. This is definitely one of Dayton's hidden treasures but it is a must for any Thai food fan! I recommend it over Thai 9 for sure. Better value, better location and better food! I have had Thai 9 and other Thai food in Dayton and I have to say that Thai Kitchen's Red Curry is AMAZING! Thai 9's chicken was dry. Other Thai places I have been have used too much coconut milk, and one used Chicken that tasted like it was soaked in chicken broth which ruined the flavor of the curry. We ate here recently on a trip back to WV from Dayton airport. We stopped trying to find the nearby chain restaurants and encountered this unassuming Thai restaurant. It wasn't busy on a Tuesday evening and our nice young server was very attentive and fast. We ordered the very tasty and fresh Dayton roll which was lovely with good sauce. Two big summer rolls for 4.95. Daughter had the chicken pad thai and it was a big and tasty serving with really good chicken pieces. I had a crispy fried chicken breast with a pineapple mandarin orange sauce for those who don't like a lot of vegetables. We will be stopping again. read more

I was excited to try Thai Kitchen because my favorite, Thai 9 is so far and so pricy (worth every penny though). My friend and I went on a Saturday for lunch and I had read the Yelp reviews beforehand so I knew it was a hole in the wall. I was so very disappointed. The spring roll was awful. So were the cheese rangoons. I'm fairly positive it was the oil they were fried in. It had to be rancid. They tasted horrible and meaty. Super gross!! And I've never had a spring roll that was inedible before eating theirs. I also got sushi, a spicy tuna. My absolute favorite sushi. It was a weird BROWN color, so I was worried from the get go. One bite and I was done. I returned that and they took it off my bill. Which is one thing in their favor since I've had places tell me if I don't know what I'm ordering sushi wise then I have to pay any way. Which I do know. Since I eat sushi every chance I get. For my entree I got the veggie Singapore noodles. They were ok. Not good, not bad. Edible. But I'll not eat there again. Thai 9 may be expensive but every thing tastes like heaven. Usually love this place, went for lunch with some co workers. Out of all of the orders they forgot mine and I waited over 30 minutes for my food all while my coworkers food got cold(it was a carry out order). The server informed my food would be free then all of a sudden my food came out and he retracted the statement of my meal being free. My parents always go here and get the same thing. I just came with them for the first time since I am visiting from out of town. In short the pad thai was awesome! I've eaten at several Thai places, including Thai9, which is too booshie for my taste, I want quick service, friendly staff, delicious food. I get this with Thai Kitchen. I order Buddha rolls and Shrimp Green Curry every time I go. Yes, It's 12.95 but it's worth it. At least 10 large shrimp, an abundance of fresh veggies and consistent heat levels, I order a 5, I always get a 5. Some restaurants vary, which can ruin a meal for me. Yes, my husband and I go, get a beer, sushi and awesome food, we pay around $45-50 and tip generously. It's small and out of way, but I will drive to the Dayton mall for this, instead of 10 mins to Thai9, to wait, be judged on what I'm wearing to see if I sit in the front or the back kitchen area...psssh. read more

We have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. Well tonight was the big night. Needless to say the hype was spot on! My wife had the Tom Yum Soup and Chicken Pad Thai.... she love every bit of both. I on the other hand decided to try my luck at an appetizer of Chicken Satay. The peanut sauce was delicious. I also decided to try the Red Curry with Chicken, it was by far one of the most savory and aromatic dishes I have ever eaten. The vegetables were slightly crisp, the chicken very tender, all mixed in a wonderful curry sauce. The Curry wasn't to over powering and neither was the coconut milk used in the dish everything blended nicely together. If you get a chance to try this restaurant please do, I doubt you will be disappointing. read more
