Beef Pad Thai
Ray N.

First time trying the Thai House which is hidden on Tully and Standiford Ave behind the Fire House. Heard about this years ago from an acquaintance but never had the chance to try it til now. Inside has no frills and reminds me of a banquet room with its open room concept. I have to say the service was great with 2 women waitresses servicing the restaurant. So went for a simple order of chicken satay and beef pad Thai. My wife was craving for soup and ordered the Tom kha kai (small). And also ordered a Thai ice tea large. So let me start with the soup. Never had it before but the one she ordered I just took a sip to try. It was coconut milk based soup with some sourness to it. My wife enjoyed the bowl of soup whereas I didn't like it. Different taste buds but I'll concur to my wife that it was good since she finished it. Chicken satay - basic sticks that is glazed with curry sauce. It comes with peanut sauce and a sweet cucumber side. No complaints on the satay. The cucumbers was cut somewhat large so didn't soak up the sweet sugary liquid it was soaked in. Minor complaint since I like them more cubed. (4 stars) The beef pad Thai- supposedly that's what it's known for. I thought also that it was good. But not the best I've had (mind you, I've had my share of pad Thai over the years and even had it in Thailand when I went on vacation). Portions is okay but didn't have any peanuts on the side of the dish that is customary. Besides beef, there was tofu and bean sprouts. It's not as sweet as Tasty Thai's pad Thai but probably more akin to what to expect in traditional pad Thai than the Americanized version done at Tasty Thai. I can definitely taste the fish sauce on Thai House which was more overbearing than what I like. The beef was thinly sliced and wasn't a lot on there if I was to be honest. Verdict - good (solid 4 stars out of 5) We shared the large Thai ice tea which was in a super size mug. If there was any highlight- it was probably this drink since we can't go to a Thai restaurant without ordering one. 5 stars. Overall, it's a good no frills Thai restaurant in modesto. Would we go back? For sure if we are craving for Thai food.

This is definitely my new favorite Thai restaurant in town. The food was delicious, and we had a fantastic experience during our visit. Even though the restaurant was packed, the staff was hustling and the service was outstanding. It's the perfect spot to sit down and enjoy some amazing food. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5

Beef was amazing with great flavor. Chicken spring rolls had zero chicken in it just a bunch of lettuce and noodles. Service was great.

We came in on Sunday ~6:30p and the place wasn't full yet. However, I do think they were slightly understaffed; the poor lady at the front was serving ~6/7 tables while taking phone orders. The service was slightly slow, but I know they were trying their best. Pad thai: was decent, nothing special, but familiar flavors. Tomyum: we got a double order, and it came in a share bowl. This was yummy and had plenty of shrimp. Crying tiger: there were many pieces of marinated steak, it was super tender. The veggies were good when combined with the juice from the steak. The sauce is super spicy!

I have been going to Thai house, family run restaurant for about 12 years now. Service and food is hands down good every single time. The menu looks big, but the best servers in town like Malay-Kham aka Nok Noy and Daisy. They will guide you to the best options based on your liking and flavors. There mom and aunt who cook the food are heaven sent, food is delicious, homely, and tasty. Their fried garlic chili (homemade) is the best add on when you are looking for an extra kick. Their Young coconut ice cream, stir frys, soup, noodles are all bomb. Today I ordered clay pot noodles #32, my friends ordered #37 and #34. We all loved out meals, and the excellent fast service you receive with smile.

My wife is gluten free and knowing most Thai food is gluten friendly the family owners really walked us through the GF options, 'cause the menu is not yet marked. Man they really are wonderful and very friendly to our dietary needs. Tables are well spaced, not too close together , lighting was good, I could read the menu while not too bright. That's always a plus. :)

Ask the Community - Thai House

Is your sate dairy free And gluten free?? Any of your pad tai gf/df?…

They can make pretty much anything gluten free. I don't know about dairy, but I'm pretty sure they use coconut milk for the chicken satay.

First time trying Thaiburi which is located next to the Vallarta Market on Pelandale…read more Came here on a Sunday afternoon with the place having several customers seated along with steady to go orders being picked up. Decor is very minimalistic but clean in appeaeance. Menu had numerous photos of dishes they offer to give customers an idea of what it looks like and its description. We ordered Chicken satay as an appetizer. It was a good portion of char grilled chicken breast along with white toast and their peanut sauce and cucumber relish. 5 stars Pad Thai with beef- presentation was good. The taste was fine but something about it, didn't make me overwhelmingly eat a lot of it. My wife liked it so I'll give it 4 stars. Pineapple fried rice with chicken- good portion size (we had leftovers). Has a sweetness to it but was expected. 4 stars BBQ Pork - another good portion size that was on a bed of lettuce and served with sticky rice in a foil along with some hot chili sauce. This was my fav because of the char grilled taste and spiciness. 5 stars Wife got a cup of Tom Yum soup with prawns. She liked it with its sour taste to it. 5 stars For dessert, they ran out of the fried banana so tried their sticky rice with vanilla ice cream (Thaibury Khao Tum Mut- Very tasty with coconut milk tasting sticky rice. Good price and portion. 5 stars Overall, great meal and we had lots of leftovers. If I was to remove one item it would be the pineapple rice and stick with plain rice to enjoy the flavors.

But as someone who has worked as a server and in operations for big restaurant groups, the entire place needs some retraining. Food: Overall we had 1 good dish - their pad-eggplant. Noodle dishes were clumpy. Rice = HORRIBLE. Dry and not fresh. Their salads were not great, and overall the quality does not equate to the price. Service: This place cannot handle a large table. Anything over 3 people is probably a stretch for them. We had a reservation for Mother's Day, and when we came in there were only 2 tables who were at the end of their meal already. They paid and left. Tables were coming in, but we were able to place our order prior to it getting busy. The restaurant is pretty full now, all the tables that come after us are eating or have eaten, and have paid and left. We had a few appetizers and nothing. I ask the servers why this is, and my answer is that they are processing other orders, processing to-go orders, and then the chef wants to make our dishes all at the same time. Our food never comes at the same time. There's anywhere from 10 mins in between each plate, meaning majority of the time we were eating 1-2 bites then just waiting. Stir fry dishes given without serving spoons or rice, tom yum soup given without bowls. Near the end of the meal, we are still sitting there waiting for the remaining dishes and nothing. We asked for the dishes - looks like they forgot. We just ask them to cancel it and then get us the check. One time I asked for the soup bowls, she said yes and left. Then went to help with delivery pickup and to seat people. Completely forgot until I asked her again. Another time I asked for some additional plates, the other server said she would get it and then left and completely forgot, I had to ask again. We asked for egg on the side since my niece is allergic and never got the egg. I had to ask for that and my other niece ended up eating the plain egg with rice because she was hungry. There was an issue between the front of house and back of house and until they can get that figured out, they should turn off their ordering system. If they are a sit down restaurant, they need to ensure they can prioritize the folks they are charging an automatic 20% service fee from. It sucked because we went to celebrate my mom and we all ended up leaving hungry and annoyed.

We were mtg w/a friend who lives in Tracy. There was nothing open on a Sunday in Atwater (the 1/2…read moreway point for all of us), so we decided on Modesto. This place had good reviews so I was excited since I haven't had great Vietnamese food in Fresno. Was hoping this would be a treat. But it wasn't. Service wasn't great. No one ever checked on us to see if we needed anything. It wasn't crazy busy in there either since we there at off hours. Ambiance is standard for this kinda place. Whatever. Pretty big menu tho. Decided to do appetizers for dinner. ORDER: Crispy Crab Cakes: There was no discernible crab in them. Not even fake crab. No real flavor inside. It just tasted of overly greasy crust. But it was crispy I'll say. Choked down 1 & gave up. Fried Rolls: Normally the thing I love most at Vietnamese restaurants. This was mushy inside & bland. Pork & Shrimp Spring Roll: Wasn't filled very much. Like barely there noodles. One section I ate had none but had white radish strips, so I thought it was just lettuce, pork, shrimp & radish. I don't like a ton ton of noodles but it needed triple the amt to be an avg amt of noodle. The best thing about this was the peanut sauce. I give them high marks for their peanut sauce. Fried got pork vermicelli & shrimp spring rolls. Her high praise was "they gave a lot of meat." But otherwise her reaction was "it's ok." Other friend got garlic butter chicken wings. I had one. There was no garlic flavor on the wings but there was a bit of garlic & onion on the plate w/them. Otherwise, they tasted like naked wings. I like naked wings & admit they were cooked well. She also got brisket & flank pho w/out noodles. She said meat was tender & delicious. I really really wanted to like them more than I did. This is only the 2nd or 3rd time I've ever reviewed something where I gave less than 4 stars. Not my cup of tea, but glad they seem to have found their audience since they don't have poor reviews overall. Happy for them. Still on the quest for good Central Valley Vietnamese!
