Passing through Tehachapi at lunch time, with lots of choices for dining, we landed at Thai Hachapi because the name was too clever and many good reviews. Had to give it a try. We opted for the lunch special. Best bargain in town, I bet. Under $9...soup (light and surprisingly flavorful), 2 potstickers, rice, and main dish choice. Husband got Spicy Thai Basil with pork. Meat was tender and very flavorful. I was hoping to try a yellow curry dish, but unfortunately, the selections for the lunch specials were limited to what you can find in a Chinese restaurant. I got Orange Chicken, very good, and very generous portions. This was a great find. This would be a regular go-to if we lived here. read more

Imagine our delight of finding this outstanding Thai food in this small town. We are in the area researching a possible relocation here. We yelped the local restaurants and decided to try this one. We had the combination appetizers, the batter on the fried shrimp was so light and the egg rolls were as good as any we have ever had. Entrees of drunken noodles and eggplant were delicious. We went with the safe mild spice but the flavors were spot on. We were truly disappointed that the dessert list did not include Thai custard but the sticky rice with mango had just the right sweetness and put the cap on one delicious meal. I visited Thai Hachapi while traveling through the area. As a vegan, I often look for Asian restaurants on the road. The food was good. I was able to talk to the waitress about making some dishes vegan. Nothing was vegan on the menu. The sauces were heavily sweet and smokey. I would have preferred less sweet and more salty, but of course I had asked for no fish sauce. I did like that I got lots of vegetables, and the fried Tofu was good. read more

Thai Hachapi has such a clever name for the location. My family and I ate here when they first opened, and the food was excellent, service was great and the prices are very reasonable. I'm a big fan of Green Curry, and had to try it here, which was AMAZING---the aroma of the coconut milk savored in the mortar green chillies, shallots, garlic, galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime peel, coriander root, red turmeric, roasted cilantro (coriander) and cumin seeds, white peppercorns, shrimp paste and salt.! We have eaten at a few great Thai restaurants in the Phoenix area, but this one beats them all for flavor and presentation. Great staff and reasonable prices. Such a gem of a restaurant in down town Tehachapi. The owners are lovely people and their food is fantastic. On my most recent visit I was with a party of fifteen and the place was packed. It was a very special dinner for us and we were not disappointed. The service was absolutely perfect and the food was as delicious as usual. I love their Pad Kee Mao and I could eat the peanut sauce with a spoon straight from the bowl. This place is as good as some Thai places in LA. Try it out! read more

Beware!! This place has good food but beware of childish retaliatory, vindictive behavior from the wait staff. I was a very regular patron until recently. Upon waiting for a table outside, we noticed the waitress cleaned off our table with a dirty rag and not even cleaned the chairs. My friend politely requested if they could use some wipes or spray with a disinfectant due to the covid virus. We would have ordered to go but were far from home. They also reuse their paper menus rather than throw them away after each customer use as recommended by the health department. They did comply to sanitize the table, but then made us wait almost an hour and a half to get our food. My young daughter who had held out all day to enjoy a dinner there was devastated. Due to an appointment we had elsewhere, we had to confront them to give us our food to go. Upon returning home to eat it, I suffered severe food poisoning from eating a small portion of my meal. The reaction was immediate that I do not doubt they intentionally added something toxic to my food. While the toxicology lab is doing their investigation, if they added something toxic this would be a crime. Surely this is not their first nor last attempt at these schemes. If they didnt want to serve us, they could have clearly stated this rather than intentionally physically hurt the health or end the life of a client. read more

Had chicken panang curry with medium spiciness and fried bananas to go. It came to $14 and it's all delicious. The panang is rich and full with a good kick and the portion is plenty. There's not enough rice to eat all of the panang sauce but that's typical anywhere. Absolutely delicious! I had the Pumpkin Red Curry with pork, and the sweetness of the pumpkin chunks offset the medium curry. Lovely! The green papaya salad was a unique combo of tomato, green papaya strips (not sweet) and shrimp chunks. Nice. But I shoulda chosen the mild, spice-wise. The surprise was the "fried bananas". We've had fried bananas, Indonesian, Carribean, but did not expect 8 little crispy won-ton pastries with a soft banana heart, drizzled with honey & sesame seeds. WOW!! This restaurant has by far the best Thai food I have ever eaten. From the first sip of spicy & sour chicken soup, I was floored by the explosion of flavors! A little excitement when it's lit on fire tableside. Be warned that Thai hot isn't like Mexican food hot - medium is intense and after multiple 'hot' dishes, the heat starts to build in your mouth. We enjoyed everything so much, we had to return for a 2nd visit but with less heat. The green curry was one of my favorites and looked nothing like the pictures - it was not bland, trust me. Also tried roast duck curry, pineapple fried rice, coconut chicken soup, fresh spring rolls, chow mein with crispy noodles. You can pick your fav meat for some of the dishes. When you're on a road trip, you want to stop somewhere to eat that is healthy, efficient, and delicious. This Thai restaurant is place for that. My family and I had a three more hour drive ahead of us to get to Las Vegas, and we wanted to sit down somewhere for lunch and skip the fast food.
