However, this last time I placed an order and when to pick it up, they did not have my order. So I spent my lunch time leaving work to pick up my food and no food. It doesn't look like it'd be all that much when you walk by and inside seating is really small but it'satakeout place so it's ok... BUT, Thai Express is hands down the best Thai food in Cincinnati. Coming in the staff is really friendly and it's family owned with truly traditional Thai food. I always get the Black Pepper Chicken with nuts added and it is absolutely delicious, the hotness levels range from low 1 to 10 high and hot. I usually get a 5 or 7 and it's hot and a spring roll or two on the side they're really good. The Pad Thai is soooo good and flavorful too. Tried it for the first time tonight and just one word - wow! This has to be the best Thai food I have ever had, and I completely understand the hype surrounding this place. I recommend calling ahead of time, but I also saw people come in and order from there. It definitely is more of a carry out place because they don't have much seating. I ordered a Pad Thai with the spice level 3 and some spring rolls and it was truly decadent. The spring rolls were perfectly crispy and had a great bite and super fresh vegetables. The Pad Thai had a great kick to it and just enough bean sprouts, egg, and chicken to have a good balance. I live in Loveland and I would honestly go all the way to Clifton for this place with a smile on my face the whole time. If you're looking for authentic thai food in Cincinnati, look no further. This restaurant is in an understated building in Clifton, located right on one of the main streets, surrounded by other shops and restaurants. There's not much seating inside, however, so most people get this to go. You can also call ahead if you're in a hurry. Most times, I can order and be out of there in about 15 minutes, but some days it can take a little bit longer. If you order there, you can have a seat at the table and people-watch. You're also able to see them prepare your food in massive woks, which is always entertaining. Every single thing on the menu is great. The best part about this place, though, is the price. You get very generous portions of each item for an inexpensive price. My go-to order is chicken pad thai and spring rolls. I also love the curry and basil stir fry. They make all the food to order, no dishes are prepared ahead of time. You can alter your spice level on any dish according to your preferences. I've gotten takeout from here countless times, and each time my order has been correct, tasted delicious and was fast. The staff is very friendly here, and they remember frequent customers' names, which is always appreciated. I'm in town for work so it was my first time. It's a great hole in the wall. The guys cooking behind the counter are very friendly and knew a majority of the customer's that came in. I asked the staff for a recommendation and two of the customer's beat the cook to the punch and said Pad Thai. I couldn't go against that. I got it with chicken and 6 out of 10 spice. Spot on recommendation. 6 had good flavor and spice but it wasn't spicy to the point that I filled up on water before I could finish the dish. I also got an order of Curry Egg Rolls. This restaurant doesn't seem like a lot, especially since it's more of a take out place with very little seating, but the food is still authentic and delicious, and reasonably priced for the portions they give! Sometimes this place is packed and the wait times can be long, but that should tell you that this place is popular! I'd also like to point out that this is an immigrant owned restaurant, which should also be an indication of how good the food is. You definitely need to check this place out for Thai Food, and I am always happy to support the people running this place. So, some of the best food in Cincinnati seems to always be in small, unexpecting places. Thai Express is no different. I mean honestly, who'd expect to find great Thai cuisine hidden away on Mcmillan?! I've been to this restaurant a few times now and the food has always been super tasty. The restaurant is designed with more of a take-out style. There are a couple of tables for those who want to dine in, though. On my latest visit I had the soy sauce noodles, or Pad Si-iew. One of the things I like is that the food seems to be cooked to order. However, I'm always willing to wait an extra few minutes for quality and I think Thai Express is worth it. If you're looking for food plated like you're in a high end, fine dining restaurant downtown, you're in the wrong place. But, if you're looking for plain old good tasting Thai food, I'd recommend you give Thai Express a try. read more

I fell in love with Thai food at a little place called Bangkok on the outskirts of Chicagoland. And since that time, I've been on the search in Cincinnati for a tom kha gai soup that is anywhere near the creamy perfection as that place. Thai Express is about as close as it gets. It's small, crowded and steamy, but if a flavor-filled Asian take out place is just what the doctor ordered and you want something quick, relatively inexpensive with good Thai flavor, then this is a great spot. Do not expect high end. Again, this is quick, tasty, authentic takeout Thai food at a good price. My favorites on the menu are the aforementioned tom kha gai soup. It's got a great, sweet, creamy taste with ample chicken and mushrooms. I like to ask for some more cilantro in mine- makes it Sooo good. My girls like the Thai veggie spring rolls. They are crisp and just what you'd expect with a nice sweet sauce to dip. We also like the massaman curry. It's a milder curry with potatoes. And of course, the chicken pad thai is a go to and they do it right. The rice is very sticky and isn't the greatest- just standard bed of rice. Be mindful that like any Thai place, they ask for spice levels. Anything past a 5 and you'll be sweating. If quick, tasty, affordable Thai takeout is what your mood calls for, then this is your place. I give this place a one and a half (out of two) Yums Up! Unfortunately, our order tonight was skimpy...basil chicken had 4 times the rice than chicken. Same with the chicken Pad Thai. I have searched for years to find a place with food that can compare to my favorite Thai restaurant from my childhood, and this is the closest that I have ever tasted. The food is definitely delicious -- a bit saltier and dryer than other Thai places I've been too, but for a fraction of the price of those places, I will take it! I had the drunken noodles, and even at a 4 out of 10 in spiciness, they definitely had some kick to them! (Not at all overwhelming, though.) They can make nearly any dish gluten-free, which isn't obvious from looking at the menu. However, they don't seem to clean the woks much between orders, so I imagine there is a fair amount of cross-contamination that might give people with really severe nut or gluten allergies pause. There is very limited seating, but there is no air conditioning and the cooking process is pretty loud, so I wouldn't plan on "for here" if you have a choice. The lady who took my order was so sweet and when my food was done she called me honey lol really nice service and people who care about the food. Pro tip: SPLIT whatever you get. Portions are huge and cooked in a gigantic wok that seals in all of the flavor. Our favorite - the curries. Red or Green for only $8.00 served with rice. I like a high spice level that stings my nostrils off and this place brings the heat! I opted for an 8 when I really wanted a 9-10 and boy am I glad I stuck with 8. Despite living down the street from Thai Express for the past year and a half, and absolutely loving Thai food, I hadn't wandered in until a few weeks ago. I had heard so many amazing things, and wanted to try it a few times, but I think I was "saving" it for a time I knew I needed a good pick me up meal. So when a new girlfriend was surprised that I had never had it, I knew it was time to get that special meal! We ordered new things for both of us (my first time having it makes it new by default :P ), I had the chicken and veggie stir fry with a level 5 spice level, and she got the panang curry, also spicy. With the bearcash coupon from the corner we were able to grab a free spring roll as well, which is always nice. Food took all of 10 minutes, served up quickly, with a big smile and some light hearted banter. Walked a few blocks home and dug on in! I have to say... it was good, the food was tasty and service was quick, but it wasn't really incredible. My dish had lots of good veggies, including the zucchini that I love, had a nice light flavor, and they gave us ample rice to go with the dishes. She had never tried that curry, but found it acceptable, spicy enough. The price was right, at under $8 for each of us, and it could probably be two meals (if I wasn't realllly hungry when I actually sat down with the food). That all said, it wasn't incredible. I didn't feel an urge to go tell everyone to try Thai Express, it's definitely not the best thai food in the city, and not even my favorite quick meal on the block. My friend and I decided to stop by in the mid-evening after a class because we had heard much about it, it was on our way home, and we were craving Thai food. The place is small and it was a bit crowded, mostly due to the fact that there isn't really space to wait around. It took a bit longer than expected to even place our order, but we waited a loooooong time to be given our food. During our time we noticed some strained relationships within the food staff, which was entertaining. The biggest bummer was that they had run out of Thai tea, which I was really looking forward to. Love Thai Express for cheap and tasty takeout when I'm too lazy to cook. We got a few things the other night, and my fiancé raved about his dish. My pad thai was enough for 3 meals (although I tend to eat pretty modest portions when I get takeout). I loved our spring rolls - they are more like egg rolls (they are fried, not the clear wrapper), but they had a nice black pepper kick to them. The fried tofu is also pretty good. Hands down the best thai food in the area!! Thai express is a small hole-in-the-wall that is very easily missed. The actual restaurant is quite tiny and simple. There are probably only has 2 or 3 tables for dine-in customers. But really though, this place is not meant to for that fancy date night with your significant other instead, Thai Express is for those days when you are absolutely starving and want to pick up that is both quick AND delicious! Real, home-style Thai street food in Cincinnati. I've only been once, but I will be back to be sure. I have had Thai food before (many people who have reviewed this place have not). So my stars are not the "wow, this doesn't taste like midwestern bland" rating. My first review will be 4 Stars (note: this is NOT based on ambiance lol). I have only had the Holy Basil Stir Fry. It was great (it's well described in other reviews, so I'll refrain). But I did watch the dishes get cooked and served for 30 minutes. They all looked awesome, with real fresh ingredients. Take it away, or eat at one of the two small tables. But by all means eat the food here. Mother/daughter/or some family member (wild guess) seem to run the kitchen and counter, and they run a tight ship. Steady stream of customers. read more

They are fresh and have layers of flavor. My favorite main dishes are the Green Curry and the pad Thai. The place doesn't look like much, but it's a great spot for some homemade Thai food. Thai Express specializes in carry-out. Seating is almost non-existent and seems to be there only for those waiting for their order to come up. I suggest calling ahead as there is not much real estate. There are not readily available bathrooms and cash seems to be easier. If you're not in walking distance, parking can be a chore.
