Thai Wings , were pretty good
Fred B.

Finally made it back here to try the Pho ( actually been back a couple of times), and it did not disappoint in the least. While there are some pretty good places in the area for Pho (Thai Sawatdee, What Da Pho, and a few more) none rise to the level of Pho Hien Vuong and Jakjin Bistro Pho in Greensboro - but this place is among the best in WS. I went with the seafood Pho which comes with shrimp, scallops, and calamari. The seafood was very fresh tasting and the broth was excellent. The toppings of basil, bean sprouts, sliced jalapeños, and lime wedges were also fresh and tasty. This was a good bowl of Pho! On other visits I tried the Fish Cakes, Tom Som (papaya salad), and Thai Chili Wings the fish cakes were simply awful - mushy with not real flavor - when both taste and texture are missing, you do not have a good food item. The Tom Som was just average at best - the thins strips of papaya were rather tough and was not very flavorful. The primary ingredient in the salad was tomato, and you simply do not get good tomatoes at this time of year - and these were not good tomatoes. I added some lime juice and a healthy amount of salt, that helped a small amount. The Thai wings were quite nice, especially when a good amount of the dressing was applied. These two trips were a bit of a mixed bag, two of the dishes on the second visit were average to simply not good. The Pho was solid if not spectacular, and the wings were much the same. Don't know about a revisit, but of a trip for a hit or miss experience!

Pad Thai spicy

Husband went to get food here to pick up for dinner. He said the owner gave him and our daughter a free bottled water while they waited. We got the spicy pad Thai with chicken and the pad yakisoba with chicken. Both taste VERY fresh. Did feel like the chicken was over cooked a bit but honestly still devoured them because the flavor of the noddles and veggies were so good. I will say the pad Thai wasn't the typical flavor or noodle I was expecting but still delicious. More of a wider noodle (not like a drunken noodle though). We did spice level one but think I could a have handled level two. We will definitely be back to try more from here! (Both pictures were taken half way through eating them, sorry!)

We went here for a coworker's birthday and I was so impressed with how delicious it was! We had some vegetable spring rolls which were good (they're not my favorite to begin with but they were crispy and the sauce was really tasty). I ordered the pork gyoza pho which I've never seen on a menu before. I absolutely loved it so much. The pho had so much flavor and it was served with bean sprouts, cilantro, jalapeños. I love when pho is served with jalapeños so I was excited. The gyoza was delicious. It fell apart in the soup (which is to be expected) but it was still so flavorful. I also love how they have sriracha and so many other different condiments at the table. The service was great - our waiter was friendly and attentive. Everything seemed clean and the ambience was great. Definitely fast enough for a work lunch but also a great spot if you just want some delicious pho. Can't wait to go back!

So...I went to "Soup's" spot when it was in downtown Winston-Salem. I lived right across the street. I had seen him many times, but never stopped in. I a big Mexican food fan and often found myself at a spot around the corner. "Soup" invited me to try him out so one day, I did. That first day( he told me his story and the story of his chefs. I waited for food that he chose for me...which is always risky. Well, it was so good that I went back another 4 times over a two week period. Then I learned he was moving. I was very disappointed to see him go. But the food is so incredible that I followed him to this new spot. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by the most amazing food smells. "Soup" found us at the maitre de stand and took us to the perfect table. I ordered two of the best appetizers in America. If you see my other reviews, I recently commented on some of the best chicken wings I had ever had. These Thai wings take the cake. Perfectly crisped in oil, they snap and crackle with flavor that is enhanced by an amazing sauce. Drop the wings in ranch and they transform to a Thai flavor bomb. I also ordered my fav dish...I can't remember what it is called...but if u tell them Eric sent u and u want his meal, I am sure it will make its way to your table. The flavors are incredible. We also had the fried shrimp, which was incredible because one can tell that it is all fresh made in the kitchen. The flavors here mingle and dance on one's tongue until you find Thai heaven. I will be back....again and again. .

my favorite was probably the pad wooden, it reminded me of Filipino noodles. the red curry was very good, it was sweet but also had a kick to it even though we got it mild it was a decent amount of spicy. ive been to thai square in greensboro n the red curry is not as sweet but its almost 3 times the size and cheaper ($2 more or less). the fried rice was very flavorful, had a strong soy sauce/hibachi taste. id rate the entire experience a 9/10 i would definitely come back. only thing I have a problem with was their portion sizes bc the one I went to in greensboro, theyre bigger n abt $2 cheaper.

New restaurant to the area and located in the Lowes Food shopping center in the Kinderton area. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is super friendly and helpful when working through the menu! The food has always been spot on with great flavor! I am glad to be able to get a good bowl of pho in the area now.

Just another fabulous Thai place I can Goto close by! Thai destiny is owned and run by the owner of what use to be downtown Thai, I loved that place and I loved my first visit here too. They don't have their sign up yet but you'll see all their signs! First thing I noticed when I walked in is that it wasn't freezing like most places you go to. That's many stars from me! It was nice and comfortable. They have booths and table seating and a few seats at the bar area. We chose a booth, which was perfect for the 3 of us. There were a couple of servers around who both served us and were very friendly and nice. They serve beer and wine, great prices on bottles! We got a really nice red blend for $28. Unshackled red blend We all loved the wine. For dinner we tried the drunken noodles and the red curry both with chicken , we got extra extra spicy! I shared this with one of my friends as we both like the heat. My other friend also got the drunken noodles with chicken but mild! The noodles were awesome, full of veggies, it had ground chicken in it, which I don't prefer over sliced, so I have to remember to ask them to change that next time. But it had good flavor, came out hot and spicy, I still asked for the spice tray as I could have handled it hotter. The red curry was also great, lots of yummy broth, peppers, onions, and sliced chicken. Good spice too. Comes with rice. My friends mild noodles was great for her too . We had lots of leftovers and took it all for lunch. The food was fantastic and fresh. So happy to have this in walking distance from where I work! The restaurant itself is nice and cozy and will be on my list of local favorite go to places. The owner did come by to see how everything was, which was nice. We left here very full and satisfied ! Welcome to the neighborhood Thai Destiny.

I've dined here four times, and each visit has been nothing short of exceptional. The food is rich in flavor and generously portioned. The owner is warm and personable, ensuring every guest feels attended to throughout their meal. Though they are still in their soft opening phase, they are already excelling. I eagerly anticipate becoming a regular patron..

The ambience is laid back with soft lighting, and depending on what time you arrive, you're either seated right away or there's usually only about a 10-15 minute wait, which is never too bad. The tables are always clean and set with fresh chili oil (super fresh and spicy), hoisin sauce, sriracha, and soy sauce. I ordered the pad Thai noodles with chicken, and it was so delicious. If you're looking for something savory, soft, and really satisfying, definitely try the pad Thai. Their drunken noodles are also up there as one of my favorites. Overall, this is definitely one of my comfort spots!

Pho Hien Vuong had some of the best pho I've eaten, at by far the cheapest price point…read more Though I'm not truly a vegetarian, I am fairly "meat-averse" at times, and if I eat meat or meat products, I prefer for it to not taste "too meaty." Not really a fair standard, I know, but it's what I prefer. So, for something like pho, with such a rich, meaty broth, and often chock full of meat, I struggle to enjoy it at times, despite my love of spicy, savory foods. This is all to say, I was thrilled to find that Pho Hien Vuong not only has a vegetable option (which most places do), but several combinations of just vegetables or with tofu, in either beef broth or a vegetable broth. I don't see that too often. I went the truly vegetarian route, with tofu and their made-in-house vegetable broth. The broth, despite its distinct lack of meat, was rich, flavorful, and deep. There were an abundance of toppings, and in addition to the included tofu and vegetables, I added jalapeño, bean sprouts, basil, lime, chili crisp, and sriracha. It was a fantastic meal, and while I could not come close to finishing the absolutely massive serving, I enjoyed every bite I did eat. Our server was quick and attentive, despite the restaurant being jam packed with a line out the door (a testament to its popularity, and by extension, its quality and value!). Tables were large enough to spread out on, everything was clean, and the volume level wasn't too bad even with that many people. I see many more visits to Pho Hien Vuong in my future.

The ambience is clean, cozy and dimly lit. We were one of about 7 to 8 tables present in a restaurant, with only one server working. Even then, we were promptly serviced, and didn't have to wait a long time at all for our food Altogether, we ended up ordering one order of shrimp egg rolls, one order of veggie egg rolls, one order of shrimp summer rolls, two beef and meatball pho, one combination pho, and one chicken pho. Everything was brought out piping hot, and of course, the pho herbs, condiments, and veggies were super fresh and served in abundance The eggrolls all came out hot and fresh. The wrappers were perfectly crispy on the outside, and the filling was fresh on the inside. I did not taste the summer rolls, but everyone said they were excellent. I personally had the combination pho and wish it had a little bit more meat. I would say the amount was less than at other Vietnamese restaurants, but overall it was still really delicious and filling. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the broth was perfectly seasoned. The total for the table was only $75, which I felt was reasonable for four people and the amount of food we received. Overall, a solid Vietnamese restaurant in Winston. I look forward to returning in the future.

I really wish Winston Salem had a great Banh Mi available. There are some good Pho restaurants but…read morethey don't serve Banh Mi usually and when they do it's not quite the authentic version I'm looking for. I had the Banh Mi at What Da Pho in the past and remember it was good so that's what I ordered this time. Additionally we ordered crab wontons and summer rolls. The restaurant is a little hidden but if you park in the parking structure adjacent to the restaurant it's super easy to get inside. First impressions are it's quiet- no music in the dining room, and the decor is sort of an afterthought with scotch tape holding LED lights to the walls and some Asian inspired pictures but not very well thought out. It's Ok, I'm not coming for the decor. The service is a little lacking. They are giving the bare minimum here so don't expect your server to be too friendly. The crab wontons and summer rolls arrived quickly. The crab wontons were super hot and crispy right from the deep fryer. They were filled with a delicious imitation crab and cream cheese mixture and when dipped in the sweet chili sauce they were exactly the thing I was craving. The summer rolls were equally as fresh and delicious. The filling of cold rice noodles, crisp lettuce and shrimp then dipped in the accompanying peanut sauce was just as delicious. We ordered one pork and one beef Banh Mi. The first thing I noticed was how plentiful the meat was in each one. Usually it's a light sandwich but these were very hefty in comparison to others I've had. My meat was very savory and had a very tender texture, almost like pot roast. It was also the juiciest pork I've ever had in a Banh mi. The picked vegetables were also really good but both our sandwiches were missing the jalapeno I've come to expect. My husband really enjoyed his beef one as well but we both noticed how the bread lacked that crusty flaky quality that Vietnamese baguettes normally have. This was more of a sub roll with a chewy texture and softer crust. The flavors were great, I just missed the textures I have come to expect in an authentic Banh mi. Our spot in Greensboro will still be my favorite but when I don't want to trek out that far, I can get my fix at What Da Pho.

Tucked behind Harper Hills Common business center close to Harris Teeter…read more The restaurant is decorated beautifully and it is very clean. They have Malaysian food and a specialty menu for khmer food. Khmer food is not knowned much in the east but its beginning to be more learned about and popular. There food is rich in flavor and there cuisine is mostly known for there use of fresh herbs, coconut milk and aromatic spice paste;known as kroeung(lemon grass paste). I decided to try some entrees from the Khmer menu. I tryed the Malaysian Roti appetizer with side curry. It is so so delicous. The curry is tasty too but a little too sweet for my taste. Main entrees I tryed was the chicken kroeung (sour lemongrass soup) and the braised pork meat on bone cooked in soy sauce( Malaysian style but Khmer people have a similar dish). The chicken kroeung is soup for the soul, filled with alot of green veggies and best eaten with white rice. The braised pork meat is great too. Cooked just right and seasoned good. Its not sweet or salty. Usually I would try braised meat in soy at other restaurants either it would be way too sweet or salty but they made theres just right. Now the Southeastern asian cooking is not for everybody or those who have only tried chinese or japanese food. If you'd like to try something different but oh sooo delicous, khmer cusine is for you!! The staff is very welcoming, friendly and informative. Food came out hot, quick and tasty(bursting of aromatic flavors). I met the owner too. He mentioned he also have a donut shop called Intown donuts and Boba tea..down the road on Jonestown Road. Will definitely dine here again and try there other menu items. Next time am going to try the donut shop before I come here since it closed earlier.

But when I ordered it the manager,Tony Tan, said the dish was actually 1/2 Roasted Duck! I went with the duck(which includes steamed rice), and added Baby Bok Choy, a nicely stir-fried dish that goes very well as a side item with a great many Asian entrees! These items made up a very nice meal. The duck is chopped into chunks with bone in, and is plated with a nice amount of rich broth, with just a hint of sweetness. The chunked up approach for the duck does result in some small pieces of bone to be picked through, in some cases fairly carefully. The picking through the bones was definitely worth it. I'm looking forward to trying additional Cambodian dishes.
