Very disappointing experience…read more Our son has special needs and a very limited diet. The last time we were here, we were told something regarding bringing food for him, so this time I called ahead before coming to ask if we could bring his French fries in that he would eat. I specifically called because I wanted to respect the restaurant and avoid any issues. I explained the situation to the manager. I was told they have a kids menu, but none of the options on the kids menu are foods our son will eat because of his extremely limited diet. I explained that and asked if we could simply bring food that he can eat. The answer was still no. We weren't trying to get around the rules or avoid purchasing a meal. We called ahead, explained the situation, and asked for a simple accommodation so our son could sit with his family and eat. What was most disappointing was the lack of understanding or willingness to work with us. Saying "we have a kids menu" doesn't solve the problem when a child with special needs cannot eat any of those options. We made every effort to handle this respectfully. Unfortunately, that same consideration was not extended to our family. We will not be returning.

My son and I came for lunch and it was nice to see they had a lunch menu as well as their other dishes. They offer a lot of Vietnamese and Thai dishes with some Japanese dishes as well. I ordered the fresh summer rolls and bah min. My son had the rare beef pho. Everything was delicious. I really liked the sauce that came with the summer rolls. The sandwich was also really good. The bread was a great texture and my favorite was the pork one. I had the last time I ordered from here. Soup was also very good. The meat was tender and the broth was light. Our server was very nice and she always double check to make sure that we would be happy with what we ordered. We will definitely be back to try some of the Thai and Japanese dishes.

The drive thru line was around the building the entire time we were there. First impressions are pretty good with an attractive, well designed space. The parking lot situation felt tight, but there was also a lot of traffic. I imagine demand will simmer a bit once they're not the new exciting thing. I will say they seem to have some identity confusion, calling themselves "Maki of Japan", then also "Asian Eatery", but most of the food seems to be more aligned with Chinese cuisine, with a sprinkling of Cajun and Thai influence. Perhaps "Maki Asian Eatery" would have been a more apt name. Food is mostly served cafeteria style, with all of the food looking very fresh and appetizing. Despite a long line it moved super fast, to the point that you had little time to debate your choices. There are a few teriyaki options available made to order. Servings are generous, though a bit light on the meat and heavy on the carbohydrate. Pricing seemed reasonable for what you got. Staff were very friendly! There are some growing pains expected in the first week and I'm sure the kinks will be worked out soon. For example, there were no napkins in sight, and they were out of the sauce for the crab Rangoon. There seems to be room for improved communication between server and cashier as far as what's packed to speed up checkout. I'm not sure if there's an online ordering ahead option, but honestly as fast as the service was you could be in and out in a couple minutes so there may not be any benefit to online ordering. I'm excited to have this new options in town and I imagine they'll be very successful!

It's been a staple in the area for a long time, I remember coming here with my grandparents when I was much younger and it is still serving it up! You honestly cannot go wrong with much at this place, but you especially cannot go wrong with their fish stew in pottery pot, or Ca Kho To. Imagine sweet and sour fish, but make it so much better. The sweetness is there, but it isn't overpowering. The swai is so flakey and melts in your mouth. It is such a great dish, one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes period! I have not been let down by any of their options either. Their appetizers are done well, super hearty. Their lemongrass chicken is a nice, light option. And their shrimp fried rice is such a great version of fried rice, with plenty of fish sauce in it. Service here is friendly and the portions are reasonable. They have lunch deals during the week that are especially worth it, and a ton of variety. I have not even had a chance to scratch the surface of the vast menu. They have noodle dishes, soups and Thai options as well. I wish this place was closer to me, I would be in all the time!

I ordered 2 lunch specials at $8.55 - Scallion Chicken and Beef in Garlic Sauce. Each came with Egg Fried Rice, Egg Drop Soup, and 2 small Spring Rolls. The Scallion Chicken was not a bad dish, but neither did it reach the level of a good dish. Why is it so hard for Chinese American restaurants to cook Scallion Chicken in a manner that does not result in gobs of gooey? And who decided that that particular cut of carrot was the right one for stir fries it is almost always overcooked! The Beef in Garlic Sauce was simply a flavorless mess, loaded with extraneous vegetables, including the particularly awful baby corn. I have had this dish at Jade Garden and China House, and both were very tasty! The baby corn is,in fact, regular corn that is picked while the corn is still immature, and has not yet developed the sweet corn taste most folks love - in fact, it has no flavor. It is loaded into stir fry dishes in Chinese American restaurants to make the dish seem larger. While it is used in China, it is not a staple. Most such corn is used in Thai, Indo-Chinese, or Chinese American dishes, mainly stir-fries. Most of the world supply comes from Thailand, and it is either canned or frozen, rarely if ever is it fresh. The Egg Drop Soup was very under seasoned, and the Spring Rolls needed a good amount of hot mustard. I may try some other items here, but certainly not these two!
