Little Bangkok Thai Kitchen 2 - Pad Thai Combo

Little Bangkok Thai Kitchen 2

I almost walked past Little Bangkok Thai Kitchen 2…read more It was lunchtime, yet the stall was practically empty while the one next door was busy with customers. Usually, that would be enough to make me look elsewhere. This time, I took a chance, and I'm glad I did. The stall is run by a genuinely friendly couple, and the service was impressively quick. My order was ready in about five minutes and handed to me with a bright smile. There was something refreshing about that kind of service. No fuss, no long wait, just a warm greeting and a hot meal. I ordered the shrimp pad Thai combo for $16.75, just a little more than the roughly $15 regular dish. The combo comes with a pop, soup and spring roll. The pad Thai arrived loaded with crunchy crushed peanuts, crisp vegetables and savoury shrimp. The noodles were soft and chewy, while the vegetables and peanuts brought plenty of crunch and contrast. There was a nice balance of sweet, savoury and tangy flavours, with the shrimp adding a deeper savoury note throughout. I went with medium spice, which turned out to be just right. There was enough heat to warm me up without overwhelming the food. The spice lingered on the palate, giving each bite a pleasant kick while still allowing the other flavours to come through. What I enjoyed most was how much the food reminded me of home cooking. It did not feel mass-produced or thrown together simply because it was lunchtime. There was a certain care in it, like someone had taken the time to make a proper meal. For around the same price as something you might get from a school cafeteria, this was considerably more satisfying. The soup was the one weak point. It was essentially hot water with a little salt and cilantro, and I could have done without it. The spring roll was much better, adding some crispness to the meal. Little Bangkok may have been the quiet stall, but the food gave me a reason to stop. Fresh ingredients, well-balanced flavours, a satisfying mix of textures and just enough spice made the pad Thai genuinely enjoyable. Add the remarkably fast service and the warmth of the couple running the stall, and this was one lunch-hour gamble that paid off.

I had Pad Thai combo again with high expectations but honestly it was disappointing this time. It…read morelooked exact same and same volume. But even I asked mild heat level, it was very hot. And seasoning was odd as well. Not much tamarind ( thanks God! No ketchup!) but strong fish and oyster sauce. The balance was really bad. Spring roll has vermicelli and vegetables inside. Very mild seasons. Only good thing is the old man in the counter is very sweet and friendly. He looked enjoying serving to the customer from bottom of his heart. Simply gem.

We enjoyed a wonderful and meal with some delicious appetizers. I read the reviews and specifically asked for crispy calamari and it was melt in your mouth delicious. Prawn pad Thai and the curry were very good. I enjoyed the spring rolls which were fresh with crisp filling. Definitely a can't go wrong spot for me.

We were seated outside on the patio as it was the first table available. I didn't really like the table we sat at because it was on a slant and the the table was a bit wobbly so it made both sitting and eating a bit awkward. We shared an appetizer platter so I was able to try the following: - Spring Rolls: Good. Better and lighter than I expected. - Satay: Good/average. - Crispy Wontons: Average Service wasn't great. Rushed, not readily available, and both drinks and food came out fairly slow. Overall, it was ok. Nothing really outstanding in food or service, andexpensive for what we got. Would be willing to try again, but only if someone suggested it.

You especially find lots of sushi restaurants along with dim sum places. Living in SF , I usually don't run into any Cambodian food and I wonder why? There is one place in Vancouver which has lines forming outside to try Cambodian food and is a Michelin Guide restaurant for over 3 years straight. It is located in Vancouver and it's called Phnom Penh Restaurant. On a Vancouver city stroll I landed at Phnom Penh Restaurant. From the outside it reminds me of the restaurants around the Tenderloin in the city of San Francisco. Inside you will not only find Cambodian dishes but Vietnamese dishes. I first ordered their Phnom Penh Chicken Wings they were crispy and had some garlic seasoning and some lemon pepper but wasn't sour like some in SF. I rank these wings top 5, I ever had. After eating these wings my fingers weren't sticky or smelly like some on my social media feed. The Beef Luc Lac on Rice was so delicious especially with an egg on top. I then had the durian sticky rice which was a pleasant surprise as the durian didn't smell like parts of the Tenderloin in SF. I highly recommend the tasty durian sticky rice. I washed it down with some not too sweet Vietnamese Coffee. This is the place to must try when in Vancouver. Vancouver has lots of places which have food like dumplings that's " Chinese" and "Taiwanese"and sushi that's "Japanese"and Phnom Penh has food that Cambodian and "Vietnamese" Go to take a "ride"to the edge of "Vancouver East side" at a restaurant where you will find Cambodian and Vietnamese food "inside" that has been for years on the "Vancouver Michelin Guide"

The restaurant is located on a busy street and is unassuming/easy to miss so I'm glad my boyfriend pointed it out for us to try with some friends. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share. They all arrived relatively quickly and my favourites were the pad thai and the khao soi. The pad thai was fragrant and on the sweeter side which I like. I also liked the fresh raw bean sprouts on the side. The khao soi was curry noodles with tender beef and crispy egg noodles. The curry was very flavourful with a hint of heat and sweetness. This was also my first time trying curry noodles at a Thai restaurant. The green curry was filled with bamboo shoots, peppers, and a good amount of chicken. The flavour from the bamboo shoots really comes through as well. For the crab fried rice, it came with a spicy sauce and pickled vegetables. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough to go around so I didn't get a chance to get a good taste of it with the rice. However, I scooped some curry sauce from the khao soi onto the crab friend rice and it was delicious! Finally, we tried the mango sticky rice and my goodness, it was so pretty! The rice was warm and sweet which paired beautifully with the slightly tart mango. I'll definitely have to come back to have more of the khao soi noodles!
