Pad See Ew - 3 stars. Just ok, the noodles were a little hard and stuck together. Nothing too memorable. Wed dinner 2023-07-12

Cute Thai spot close to Kits Beach. We walked by at 5:30pm on a Wednesday in July and it was empty. 15 minutes later, there must have been 10-15 people eating there! We were still able to put together a table for 8. Pretty straightforward, you order at the counter, you bus your own table. * Pad See Ew - 3 stars Just ok, the noodles were a little hard and stuck together. Nothing too memorable. * Chicken Skewers - 3 stars Also ok, chicken was a bit dry, but peanut sauce was good. * Chicken Red Curry - 4 stars I only tried a bite, but my partner enjoyed this. Flavorful but chicken was a little dry/overcooked.

The dishes are hit and miss in terms of authenticity. I guess it depends on what you order. I had the pad pra pao chicken which is my standard dish to gauge if the restaurant is able to make Thai food like in Thailand. It is a very basic dish which most Thais can cook. The best one I had was in an alley in Bangkok at a makeshift restaurant. It has been decades and I still remember it. I did not specify the spice level and I was pleasantly surprised to find it came spicy. Good spicy like in Thailand. A small dish of cut chilis was served on the side to up the spice level further. It was so good! So I went back and ordered the pad Thai to go. I also got a frozen entree (green curry chicken). The pad Thai was a disappointment. It had a ketchup taste which made the dish terrible. I guess it had been altered to suit the locals' taste here. Definitely not authentic at all. Reminded me of another Thai place I went to years ago and I was told that was how pad Thai tasted like in HK, ketchup based. The frozen entree was on the small side but at $5.95, it was understandable. The green curry chicken was flavorful and quite good. I would buy a few of these frozen entrees and keep in my freezer. It is quite perfect if you are in the mood for Thai food and do not want to order in or travel out. I will still like to try other Thai dishes to see if the pad Thai was the only dish which has been modified for non Thais.

Decent, cheap and cheerful Thai food, close to the beach! I've been here many times, for lunches dinners and take away to bring to the beach, or delivery. Everyone else has raised their prices, but these lovely people have not. I usually get the combo, which is a curry with rice, a spring roll and a mini salad. My favourite is either red curry with tofu or Penang with tofu. You can also get tofu with basil or pad thai. They'd all yummy! You can have any protein you want (beef, chicken, prawns), but I've only tried the veggie options. If you're coming with bigger group you can get share plates and have lots of flavour. Last night I had the Penang curry with tofu and it was great! It's a very quick and efficient place. It's small but they do have a little patio on the side if you want to be outside. So glad they're on my way home from work!

I have not been to Thailand, but I know they have beaches, and I know they have Thai food (they probably just call it food). So, I think having Thai food across from kits beach is probably the cheapest way to feel like you're in Thailand, while still being right here in Vancouver. I love their Chicken & Cashew stir-fry. i don't know if that's a famous Thai thing, or some sort of a hybrid, but I like it. I saw a group of Thai people eating here too. So, I imagine its fairly good even from a Thai persons perspective. In any case, I think having a Thai food place close to the beach is great, because sometimes you get sick of hot dogs, and burgers and fries, ....

Vancouver is spoiled for choice in the Thai cuisine department, so settling on a place is challenging task. I chose this establishment because I wanted to get takeout and watch the sunset at Kits Beach (albeit in the late fall chill, but still, one takes the clear days as they come here). I came in well in advance of the dinner rush, at about 5pm, ordered pad kee mao (wide flat noodles, chicken, Thai basil, peppers, tomatoes, chilies). Within about 10 seconds, the whole space was filled with the funky perfume of fish sauce, and within about 60 seconds, my meal was prepped and packaged up. Seriously, these people are fast. I was pleasantly surprised to see fresh green peppercorns mingled in with the other veggies. The dish itself was amped up in the spice department, and while passingly tasty in the moment, proved far too oily for me to eat as leftovers the next day. If you're near the beach and craving Thai, this could be a convenient option, but for me, I'll keep up the search...

Beautiful location, especially in the summertime when they roll their full size windows all the way up. Right across the road from Kitsilano beach, and probably the most reasonably priced place on the block. Delicious food and great lunch deals.

Great Thai restaurant where the Pad Thai isn't too sweet like a lot of other Thai restaurants in Vancouver.

Pineapple fried rice was flavourless and pad Thai was meh...would not order from again. Bangkok City Thai is far superior.

The chicken satay was definitely very good, flavorful and tender. The peanut sauce goes very well with the meat. Downside was the calamari, the pieces are quite big which make it not as crispy as it would be. Our favorite was the salmon penang curry. the coconut flavor of the curry together with the sweetness make it a very well balanced item. it went very well with the jasmine rice. Drinks were nice (BBL/peach Bellini non-alcoholic) but probably overpriced for the size. (Banju drinks are half the price.) My friend's seafood dish had a weird mix of too many onions and drowned lettuce with not enough noodles. My pad Thai with beef had kind of a fishy taste. Have had more delicious pad Thai at places like Thai Coco or even Thai Express. Was offered dessert but didn't feel like staying. Servers were telling other customers about their 1.5 hour policy and they were really bothered by my empty drink container on the table until I put it down below on a chair for our purses and things. I actually wanted to keep the cup because it was thick plastic and reusable. Weird that at 5:30, they wouldn't let people sit inside because of reservations. Didn't look full by the time we left either so I think we could have sat inside just fine. Anyway ... I don't think I'll be back.

Steep as it is, I decided I wanted a "quick little sushi lunch with a view", and a quick little sushi lunch with a few is exactly what I received. Although I don't recommend it, I walked right in from the street, no reservation, and was seated at the bar (in pretty casual street clothes I may add). I enjoyed a premium sake flight (which was fine...just fine), an old fashioned served with the perfect accompanying dark chocolate, and a good amount of sushi including their signature aburi style sushi in flight form and nigiri tuna flight (bluefin, chutoro, otoro). After visiting Japan last December, I'm a bit of an otoro snob but I have to hand it to them, all three of these cuts were perfect. The accompanying rice, perfection. The quality of the fish, divine. The view was the cherry on top of this experience. This will certainly be a spot I revisit next time I'm in Vancouver.

Michelin starred quality in their service by how they explained the menu, brought out the food, came back around to refill waters. Just top notch service and elegantly so. The food was good but not of value. Their lunch set was a good introductory to what they offer. I enjoyed the food for its flavours and presentation but I thought that it was a bit overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, fresh and definitely elevated, but it was $50 for 10pcs of sushi, 2 appetizer sized samples of their appetizer or entree dishes, and miso soup (which we did not get and didn't realize till much later in the day). If you're wanting an upscale experience (and portion) of good quality food or wanting to impress other parties, then this is a nice spot. For regular eats, it's a bit too luxurious to be a casual thing in my opinion. The ambiance is nice and calm. They have a patio, which has a meh view overlooking the harbor, but beware of a breezy day. It will catch a bit of a wind tunnel. They have heaters and blankets but the heaters don't really reach unless you're sitting next to it.

My partner really wanted to try their Boat Noodle for a while now so we were quite excited to try that dish. The waiter was nice and recommended a couple dishes for us. Som Tum (Papaya Salad) 3/5 The texture was nice and it tasted refreshing but it is QUITE spicy. I appreciate the authentic Thai spice level but it was too spicy for us. I liked the sourness and I know this rating is a very personal rating based on our spice tolerance. Roti with Curry Sauce 3.75/5 Nice, flaky roti that wasn't too oily. I wish there was a little more sauce. Pad See Ew with Crab Meat 4/5 Great flavor. There was a decent number of clumped up noodle but the portion was great. Good amount of crab as well. Boat Noodle Soup 4.25/5 This was the best boat noodle we had so far. Flavorful broth with generous portion of various meats. There could be an option to get more noodles but my partner got this and she was satisfied with the amount since there were good chunks of meat. Good heat that creeps up. Roselle Drink 3.75-4.5/5 Great compliment to the dishes as it lightened and refreshed our pallette. Slightly sour. It tasted better with the food than by itself. Thai Milk Tea 3.5/5 Good enough. Wasn't the best but wasn't bad. Rainbow Sweet Sticky Rice 4.25/5 We were surprised it came in a cup and that it was soup-ier than we imagined. I was hoping that they had mango sticky rice but we thoroughly enjoyed the coconut I think it's also important to keep in mind that this is a relatively fast paced restaurant. There is some wait so you want to finish your food, pay, and leave. The staff was nice but we could tell that they wanted to keep the flow. We would be coming back again for sure! We had PAD PONG GARREE CRAB MEAT (turmeric curry with crab meat) and PAD KEE MAO CRAB MEAT (stir fired sheet noodles with crab meat) as our mains. Both dishes came with impressive amount of crab chunks. They were very flavorful and delicious. The curry was smooth and went so well with rice. The Pad Kee Mao was very well done too! The noodles were chewy, with layers of tastes - savory and herbal (lemongrass/ lemon leaves?) and it has wok hei too! Service was good. Servers were helpful and friendly!
