Terrible delivery experience - I ordered directly through their website at 11:15 they didn't open until 12 and the earliest delivery window was 12:30, which I understood and was fine with. My food didn't arrive till 2 PM. I ordered a pad Thai with crispy chicken as part of the lunch, combo and dumplings on the side. They didn't give me the dumplings and gave me regular chicken and not crispy because apparently they can't just upcharge for crispy chicken themselves and they did not think to call to tell me. The regular chicken was rubbery and gross and my food was cold by the time I got here with the dumplings missing. I called to complain, and they only offered me money off my next order. We moved to back bay! So we're hitting all the thai stops immediately. The drunken noodles were perfect. A huge portion, only 10 dollars, big chunks of beef and the noodles were just right. I thought it wasn't spicy enough but I've started to realize that's a me problem. We also had the hot basil with minced chicken. The portion was decent but a little pricier (13.95). They were open on the 4th of July holiday - score one for them! Thai Basil Restaurant is located on Newbury Street in a subterranean space down a flight of external stairs from the sidewalk. So yes, not at all handicap accessible unless there is a hidden elevator I am not aware of. The dining space goes pretty deep, so there is a good number of tables to choose from. Me, however, I was here for take-out for my contribution to a potluck picnic out on the Esplanade nearby. Thai Basil is actually pretty convenient for that - take the T to Copley, and it is located on the block to the right on Newbury, then head back to Dartmouth toward the closest walking bridge above Storrow Drive. My order (previously placed) was pipping hot and ready for pick up. Service was friendly. The bathroom was fine, though located through a door, down a not so pretty hall. Forks and napkins were included, but I asked for a couple of chopsticks for serving. For easy to share dishes, I decided on the Pad See Ew with Chicken $9.95 (dinner price), and Pad Thai Vegetable $9.95 (dinner), figuring that the shrimp part of the normal chicken & shrimp version might not do so well sitting out in the summer sun and heat for the 1+ hour we still had till dinner time. Both were tasty, with firm bright veggies and maybe a handful of fried tofu triangles tossed in (rather than the usual nominal 1-2 pieces, or even zero tofu, so I didn't feel piggy helping myself to 2 triangles), and the portions were good - particularly the Pad Thai, as the noodles seemed to be nicely packed into the metal tray. *** 5/2018 *** I love sweetened coconut milk, so in turn, I really enjoyed the mango sticky rice $6.95 at Thai Basil. She approached the table and assumed the change we got back and had yet to take off the table was going to be the tip so she commented that service fees are not included. I've only gotten delivery from Thai Basil. I have ordered yellow curry with chicken and steamed noodles, chicken satay, and pork dumplings. The yellow curry is my favorite that I have found in the city so far. You can customize spice levels, it is rich and creamy, and the portion is huge - easily enough for 2 meals. The chicken satay is spot on. The chicken quality of the satay is much better than the chicken quality in the other dishes- marinated, juicy, and fresh. The peanut sauce was a bit thick but still good and went great with the cucumber sauce. The steamed dumplings were not as good as the other 2 items in this review, but still solid. They were flavorful, but do not hold up well in delivery. Also they were very small. Overall I will continue to order delivery from here as my go to Thai spot in Boston. read more

As always, I was craving dessert and I saw that they had mango with sticky rice. That was exactly what I was craving. However, the waitress told us that they ran out and I had a mini heart attack. After that, my boyfriend told me he liked the fried ice cream here. So we got green tea. The presentation was absolutely stunning, topped with raspberry sauce, sesame seeds and a flower that I assume was edible. It looked great, it tasted horrendous. The breading tasted stale and ruined the whole thing. Also the raspberry was not a good touch. The flavors and consistencies did not match/sit well. Love this restaurant! Whenever I'm on newbury st, I always stop by and grab their pad thai. It's one of my favorite dishes off their menu. I do wish I had the option to customize it more and make it spicy, usually whenever I go to any other pad thai spot they will ask how spicy I want it but they don't do that here but that's fine. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Wait time for food typically is 10-15 minutes depending on how busy it is that day but I feel like even on a super busy day they will still prepare your food very quickly. read more
