What a gem of a spot! My fiancée and I stopped here for lunch en route to our hotel in Arlington, VT. She got the Pad Thai with shrimp. I got the drunken noodles with chicken. Mine was the perfect mix of savory and spice. The noodles were on the thinner side which I liked compared to other places I've been. The shrimp for my better half was cooked perfectly. She enjoyed every bite. We ordered a chicken on a stick appetizer which came with delicious peanut butter dipping sauce and a cup of cucumber salad. That was a treat. We will be coming back again! This review is written as a WARNING. I strongly urge everyone to read this before stepping foot into--or ordering takeout from--this Thai restaurant. If you don't want to read the full story, here is the bottom line: DO NOT EAT HERE. DO NOT ORDER TO GO. A few of our friends had dined here years ago and suggested it as the place to celebrate a friend's birthday. I called to make a reservation, and the person who answered simply said "yes" without asking for my name, phone number, or any details--already a red flag, though I didn't realize it at the time. Once we arrived, another major red flag became obvious: there was not a single Thai staff member to be seen. For a restaurant advertising itself as Thai cuisine, this immediately raised concerns about authenticity and quality. The interior is nicely decorated and clearly aiming for a "luxury" dining vibe. However, the shock came when we opened the menu. Chef's entrées were priced as high as $60 per dish, regular entrées ranged from $25-$34, and appetizers averaged around $19. Several of us--including myself--wanted to walk out immediately, but we stayed only out of respect for our friend's birthday. The food was nowhere near worth the price. I ordered a tuna tataki for $16.95, which consisted of just six thin slices of tuna on a tiny bed of vegetables. I also ordered a stir-fried vermicelli noodle dish with shrimp for $34--a small portion of noodles topped with four bland, unseasoned, un-marinated shrimp. My child ordered the "beef tiger cry" for $40, which came with extremely fatty, chewy beef that tasted like the cheapest cut imaginable, despite the menu claiming it was Angus beef (highly doubtful). Then came the final insult: the bill. The subtotal for 11 adults and 2 toddlers was over $600, before tax. On top of that, they added 10% tax and an automatic 22% gratuity, bringing the total to over $800. Every single person at the table was stunned. We felt completely taken advantage of. I have never--in my entire life--seen Thai food priced this outrageously, especially when the quality and flavor were so mediocre. Afterward, we looked at Yelp and Google reviews and discovered that they even charge a 10% gratuity on pickup orders. This place is not upscale. The food is not special. The pricing feels predatory. Please save yourself from being ripped off and go somewhere else. You will thank me later. I would have give 0 star if I could. read more

I deeply regretted coming here. The worst service I've seen. We had a terrible experience here. We came here for dinner. We ordered everything pretty fast and ate pretty fast too. At exactly 1 hour and 5 minutes of dining here, a waitress came over and told us that the people who reserved the table were here and wanted us to pay and leave. We were still eating the desserts and no one told us about this when we were seated. I've never seen any restaurant with this kind of bad service. The food was below average for Thai food. Regular Thai food, no good no bad. Nice location near the skiing places. It is straightforward think of this place after a day's skiing, for some fast carbon and hot pho. We had a very unpleasant experience of its service. We were told to limit our dining time within 1.5 hours. It is hard to get the attention from our waiter. They seem all look busy walking around. We have to shout aloud to grab them to order food. The food takes very long to be served. And it was served one by one, with noticeable time in between. So our people need to see one people finish eating, and then have their food. We ordered mongo sticky rice, which is recommended in other reviews of this restaurant. However it was never served. The good thing is when we point out they removed this item from our bill. The bad thing is one pho is never served as well. One person of us was hungry waiting all the way till everyone else already finished their food. It is almost 1.5 hours of their limit. We shouted aloud grab attention from the waiter to get us charged. They gave the bill together with that never served 'pho' in togo box and refused to remove it from our bill. We thought about give a fair 10% tip for the service. And the bill already 'automatically' included 22% tip. And left us the opportunity to add on any more tip. If we did not look carefully. When it is cold outside. We went back to our Airbnb and saw my person eating the half cold pho at ~9.00pm by themself. I believe it is my duty to share our experience here. read more

Visited Vermont for the day and stopped by here for some tasty Thai food. Oh my gosh, this is definitely one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to. Was so pleasantly surprised by the explosion of authentic flavors in the: PAPAYA SALAD The fresh, green papaya had such a crunchy bite to, holding true to the authenticity of Thai food. The best papaya salad I've ever had was in Chiang Mai, Thailand and I would say this is a close second. Which is saying a lot! The simplicity of ingredients is what makes a papaya salad so tasty, from the shredded carrots to crunchy green beans to the spicy Thai chilies and chopped peanuts. Every bite was tangy, crunchy, spicy and a party of flavors and textures in your mouth. KEE MAO/DRUNKEN NOODLES This dish HANDS DOWN best drunken noodles I've had in the states and that's saying so much. I am always on the hunt for some good drunken noodles and the search ends here. Oh my goodness, the noodles were perfectly cooked with just the right amount of bite to it. The veggies that were sautéed in went along great with the sauces that were tossed in, so freaking tasty. The spice level was PERFECT love a good medium-hot spice level. So flavorful and so incredibly satisfying. PANANG CHICKEN CURRY A deliciously rich and creamy curry with so many flavor elements from the coconut base to red curry to layer of spices. Every bite was so tasty and the chicken was perfectly tender and well salted. Such a tasty Thai curry dish! Service was so friendly and fast. Food is good but prices have gone through the roof. Should be more like $$$ or $$$$. They also add gratuity to carry out orders. It should be up to the patron. If they want to add a fee clearly state that. Had lunch here again and again the flavors are on point. Tried a new item but wasn't a fan, especially at $8.97. It was the tofu and veggie fresh roll which appeared to be wrapped in something similar to the pancakes you get with mu shu pork at Chinese restaurants. Had a bit of hoisin and siracha sprinkled over it and was just small and bland. But our usual dishes were delicious. Something I noticed on the menu is that if you order to go the add 10 percent to the total cost. We enjoyed our dinner here, even though the "medium" was pushing it on the spice level. You know with Thai food they tend to lean toward making it hotter, so perhaps mild would have been a better call, but either way our dishes were full of flavor and not just heat. We always come to Thai Basil in Manchester VT, especially when we are craving veggies and no where in Manchester do restaurants offer a healthy veggie bowl like here at Thai Basil. During our trip this year, we went twice! Ordered the Veggie Thai Basil, which is cooked in a light soy sauce and cooked with a variety of mixed veggies (such as celery, cabbage, carrots, bok choy, green beans, broccoli and many other green delights!) healthy option! Also ordered for apps the summer roll, which was Ok, filing was lacking and was very small. Hubby loved the green curry, which was cooked with triple spicy. This is a review for TAKE OUT only... We ordered the food at 610pm, they told us it would take one hour. We got there at 710pm, only to be told that it would be another 5 minutes ... and another 5 minutes, until it was 750pm! I wish they told us the correct time even if it was later so that we were not wasting our time waiting at the restaurant for the food to be ready for an additional 45 minutes. We were not told of any other charges and were asked to sign the credit card immediately when we got there. Only to find out that they actually added a 15% SERVICE FEE for our TAKE OUT. They also added $7.5 dollars more for using a credit card. We had to pay close to $40 in service fee and credit card fee. This is all very strange to us as obviously it is not our first time buying take out and something obviously went severely wrong here. I also wanted to add that even if it is a tip, legally it should be PRIOR to TAX, because you are never obligated to tip before tax, however, they added our total with tax and credit card fee, and charged a 15% service fee on top of all of those. My advise is to please check your receipt very carefully! I have also attached a receipt to show proof. Food wise we thought it was Okay. Not exactly big proportions for the price ($17-$20 per entree). Again, very disappointed that there are restaurants out there that cheat their customers like this. read more

After dinner for two, our table was just littered with paper and plastic garbage. Drinks are served in red solo cups, appetizers and entrees are delivered to your table in takeout containers which is transferred to paper plates and bowls and eaten with plastic cutlery. This is causing an unnecessary, negative environmental impact. I understand there is a huge problem with NY, NJ and CT residents coming here, disrespecting Vermonters and the mandatory Quarantine, but items are perfectly safe, as long as they are properly handled and sanitized. While I am certainly no expert of Thai food, I do have a keen appreciation of GOOD, well prepared, tasty food presented in an attractive manner by conscientious servers who are helpful and attentive. This is an essence of Thai Basil. The venue offers both comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, a very diverse menu and an easy to find location with ample on street parking. We were there for lunch and while I enjoy a bit of spice at n my meal, my wife does not and we were both extremely happy with our lunches and look forward returning to try other items on their extensive menu. If you are looking for a quiet restaurant in the center of a wonderful New England town where you can enjoy tasty Asian cuisine while looking out on the town, I highly recommend this restaurant.
