I ate here for dinner after my niece's graduation from UT Arlington. They catered to large group without difficulty. The food was similar to other places and the food was really good. Service was great as was the parking. Portions were very generous and if you request hot Thai food here, then Hot is what you'll get! I would recommend eating here for lunch or dinner. read more

My first time here I got Pad Thai to go. The portion size was good,the Pad Thai was ok. It was dry and it didn't have many veggies in it. Which is strange because I ordered the vegetable Pad That. Thai Basil has good consistent food. The lunch menu can not be beat. The portions are huge and are served quite beautifully. They obviously take pride in presentation. For about $7.00 on the lunch menu, you get served a soup, egg roll and entree. I recommend the PANANG curry or pad Thai but everything is delicious. From the Minute we walked inside, we got iffy vibes. The Waitress so rude time after time. The restaurant is not that big so feeling completely overwhelmed was not an excuse. She didn't take her time whatsoever ever and her faces and gestures were sooo rude. When My friend and I started ordering she rushed us to order and she actually had the nerve to suggest a dish for me because she assumed that I didn't like pork which was untrue. Then when we ordered waters with lemon she replied with "i already know to get you waters what do you want to eat?" Then had the nerve to bring us waters with "Lime"(but I thought she had everything in the bag) Then when we ask for 2 lemons she asked us were we allergic to lime? Are you serious? It doesn't even matter just give us lemon like we asked. She made us uncomfortable by pointing at us to her kitchen staff and she was just all around unprofessional. There was even a deaf couple that hadn't gotten there and were waiting an hour for their food. Even we got our food before them. So they walked out. The place is a small hole in the wall, but don't let that deter you. The staff is super friendly, it appears family owned. The place is kept clean. But most of all, the food is delicious!!! I ordered the tom yum soup and the pineapple fried rice. I wish I could eat this every night, it was absolutely delicious. The food is actually really good. I had the fish cakes, a little soggy for something that was fried, but the flavor was there. My basil beef was delicious and the meat was tender, but the portion was smaller than I am used to. The red curry beef was made thick as requested. I am not leaving 5 stars, however, because my server was noticeably 'huffy' towards me, especially in comparison to how he treated the older couple that came in. They have an excellent variety of vegan dishes, along with staff that is very prompt, and friendly.

This is absolutely the best Thai restaurant in town because it caters to the people who want both authentic and affordable Thai food. Just look around and if you see other South East Asians eating and enjoying the food, then it proves the quality is really good. I almost cried when they closed down a few months last year for renovations. Just a few reasons why Thai Basil Leaf gets the food right when other Thai places don´t get it at all: 1. Food Taste is authentic and unapologetic with spices and flavorings. You can tone down to non-spicy but then why eat Thai at all? If no spiciness is ordered, then you need to look into Viet or Chinese food because Thai food is famous for their spices. 2. Food presentation is beautiful. Look at their investment in beautiful plates and real flowers. Look also for the touch of food decoration on the side corners of each dish. Easy and practical but not all Thai places have this detail. 3. Must try dishes old and new such as my favorites of Papaya Salad which automatically comes with sticky rice. YUM. The red curry is really good and kept me eating all the way to the last bite. YUM YUM. The new favorite is surprisingly the fried ice cream dish! I literally used to come here all the time. I'm greatly disappointed in this place. Just last week they were out of Thai sauce and said they weren't sure when they will get it back. Today February 9th they are closed when the time online (on google). Says open until 10pm. I really want to give this place a second chance, but I highly doubt it now. read more

Good Thai food. Leaning more toward the Thai spicy side than the Americanized levels. One of the best places I have been to in the area. Very authentic. Good service but Thai style. Homey Thai shophouse home cooking. Good Thai home cooking. Probably the best way I could describe it. Some dishes are a little better other places but overall quite good. Dallas or Plano may have as good and possibly better. But this place is probably as good as those and better at some, ie som Tam. For the money and location, excellent. read more

Authentic flavor for sure! I grew up eating Thai food my entire life as my grandma emigrated from Thailand in the late 70's. I've been to very few Thai restaurants, and most seem to fall to the way side, lacking the distinct flavor and texture I've always known. That being said, I also approached Thai Basil with the same skepticism as all others, but from the moment I sat down I felt at home. A picture of the king in his young years hung on the wall, there was soft Thai music playing, and as I walked in the door I could smell familiar spices wafting in from the kitchen. Sure enough my bowl of kwiteow (a noodle soup very similar to Pho) tasted so eerily similar to my grandma's I fell in love. The littler old lady who ran the restaurant also made me feel at home as she treated my friends and I so warmly. I've been back at least once a week ever since! read more

I ended up here by accident bc the Thai place I usually go to was closed. Best. Accident. Ever! They have a good selection for the lunch specials and the portions are generous. This place also has the best Tom Kha soup I've ever had! We were seated quickly and the people were very hospitable. The decor is very cozy and clean! I usually so to Thai House for my thai fix but this location is a lot closer to my University. I first heard about this place when my friend gave me some of her left over Pad Thai (I am actually not partial to pad thai at all, but their version converted me). Their Pad Thai here is delicious, noodles are nice and chewy and just overall really great flavor. Great hole in the wall restaurant and would recommend to anyone in the area. This is my first time trying out Thai Basil and it is one of the worst Togo experiences ever. There was not any plastic ware in the bag so I had to scrounge my office for a spoon and fork. The charged me for the extra side of rice that they didn't give me. There wasn't even a lid on the sweet chili sauce for the egg roll, so the sauce went everywhere. I spent most of my one hour lunch trying find something to eat my lunch with and cleaning up the spilled sauce. By the time I got to eat the mediocre food, I took 2 bites and had to be back at work. Finally REAL pad thai in Arlington! We came here based on others Yelp reviews and they were spot on. There is no ambiance here but the food was authentic and is made by a local family. We also had the basil fried rice which was good. We'll definitely be here again for takeout. read more

Well, visited here 3 wks ago. With the new owner, the taste changed from fresh, flavorful to greasy, a little flavorful. We had an unpleasant guest of cockroach on the table, and the server commented "we clean every night," while wiping it with a wet cloth that seem like something that she might use to wipe the table with.... No complementary dessert, coupon or a gesture to offer "it's on the house" Losing another fav restaurant for my lunch in Arlington... Alas. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. It's right up the street from my house and has such FRESH and Delicious dishes! The meat is great quality and always is fresh and tender. Be careful if you're a spicy food lover like myself, I ordered a 3 spicy on a scale of 1-5 and that was almost pushing it! The sauces are out of this world. Great little place! It's in an older strip center across from Arlington High School, but the interior is very clean and comfortable. I appreciate the small details in plating, but the most important thing is that the food was very good! I had the pad Thai lunch special with beef and an order of crunchy egg rolls. Everything was fresh and flavorful. I went around 1230p and they weren't too crowded, so I was seated immediately. The staff were incredibly welcoming as well. Went with my sister for lunch. They have an excellent chef, the Panaang Curry and the Yum Yum Shrimp, similar to the Yum Woosen at other restaurants, was amazing. Price matches the food well. This is a no frills place, they just serve good, authentic Thai food with great, friendly service. I like that you can pick your level of spice (I went with a 2 and it was just the right amount of heat).
