Went here for dinner on a weekday, they are one of those places that are open for lunch then close & open back up for dinner. We got there at 5pm when they opened & was warmly greeted by staff. We had cheese rolls for an appetizer, they were okay. More of a personal preference, these are made with cream cheese & carrots. More savory than that tinge of sweetness my mind had me expecting, but yes I read the menu - cream cheese doesn't necessarily mean sweet. I do feel like they were a bit small for the price & they were warm instead of hot. The sauce was really good though. I had the beef pad thai, it was excellent. Big portions, the beef was juicy & flavorful. I also liked how it wasn't overwhelming with the sauce but just enough. This came out pipping hot, delicious. My friends had the chicken pad thai & basil chicken which both of them enjoyed their food. We were happy with our choices. We were there until maybe 8pm, the entire time we were there no one else came in to dine but there had been maybe four or five come in to get take out. This place has been here for a long time & the owners (I assume)/staff were so incredibly sweet! Very attentive, so welcoming, I hope that business is sustainable. First time trying this place and to start off, it's a nice and clean restaurant. We were greeted by a very nice lady who was also the waitress. We were given some time to look at the menu, since we were ordering takeout. We ordered the spicy noodle and Thai fried rice. And while we waited for our food at one of the tables, the waitress came to give us some ice water. She was very accommodating. The food was good. Wish I took pictures, but we were hungry. I like how some of the fried rice had some crisp to it. I wish there were more noodles in the spicy noodle dish, but it was yummy. The portions weren't that big, but for the price, it wasn't bad. I should've read the lower star reviews. This was easily the worst Thai restaurant I've been too. I got Pad Kra Prao Gai and it was just a plate with thawed frozen green beans with bland overcooked chicken. My wife got Pad Thai and I swear it just tasted like glass noodles and ketchup. It would surprise me greatly if they did not use ketchup in the pad Thai. Both were awful... this is not authentic Thai food. This is not Thai food period. I lived in Thailand for over a year and mountain tribes in Chiangmai can make better food with less equipment and resources than this restaurant can. The staff was kind and helpful. This really is the cutest little place inside, a small and cozy restaurant that just smells soooooo good because their food is so good. They have Thai and some Chinese dishes. Being gluten free I stick to things like curry, pad Thai or spicy noodles (both rice noodle dishes). Pad Thai is usually a little sweet for me, but even so it's undeniably delicious. I also recommend any of the curries but I probably like the red and Panang the best. And you know me, tofu is typically my protein of choice. A lunch visit on a weekday. Very simple and humble ambiance when you walk in. 11 tables that seat 4 (one table seats 6) in the establishment. Easy to find, sitting in between the Dollar General and Al's Hamburger. Plenty of parking. Ordered Golden Fried Tofu, which was crispy on the outside and light on the inside. The accompanied House sauce was very bland, even with a few chili flakes and peanuts. For my lunch entree, I ordered the Stir fry Chicken in Oyster Sauce. It was bland even at medium spice. The onions stood out as crisp and good flavor but the chicken and mushrooms in the oyster sauce woefully fell short. Overall a mediocre experience unfortunately, I was really hoping to find a local Thai restaurant in my neighborhood that I can return to often. Overall, I would not recommend this place, while the bill was only $24, (with an ice tea), seeming to be a good price, but the dishes were lack luster in taste and depth, compared to what I was hoping for. read more

While in Arlington for business, a coworker and I stumbled across this place for lunch. I love trying new Thai places so this was a treat. The waitress was lovely. She took the time to explain the dishes we ordered and was very nurturing to the other tables. However the food was lackluster. I ordered panang curry with combination meat and the Tom Kha soup with chicken. The soup was a a decent size cup and had a good flavor but there was something questionable in the soup. I'm not sure if it was the skin of a vegetable or a very tough piece of chicken but upon delivery to the table, it was front and center in the broth. I have ordered a lot of Panang curry in my life and never have I had it served without vegetables. The sauce was flat and very thin. Panang curry is usually bursting with flavor but this was not. We went on a Wednesday at 12:30p and the lunch menus were blocked out with white paper. I found this to be uninviting but we had already committed so we stayed. I would be interested to know what's on the lunch menu because my bill for lunch was nearly $30. read more

Only a few blocks away, its my go to Thai restaurant. Been a patron for 15 years. Have had all the appetizers, most of the soups, the curry entrees, pad thai, and the pineapple fried rice. All delicious and no complaints. Plus its BYOB if you want to eat in. read more

If you want to experience authentic Thai food, then this is the place to go. All of their dishes are pretty on point, and I've never had a bad experience in the 4 years I've been frequenting this restaurant. I ordered the steamy spicy fish and the tom kha soup. There was a good amount of fish with plenty of brothy garlic lime sauce. It was tender and had a really good aroma with the herbs in the broth. I wasn't expecting steamed rice but I was very happy to receive that side. The tom kha soup was pretty big for a cup, but it was also a little on the pricey side at $10. It had plenty coconut broth in the container and seafood (medley). I do have some to go menus if you want to read about other dishes. The food is great! The portions are perfectly balanced in cost and size, the flavors exceed expectation and the staff are attune to the table's needs. The restaurant is a smaller dining area, but it's still incredibly comfortable. The to-go experience is nice, too. My orders are always right on time with their estimate, and it's still "eating temp" by the time it's back home with me. read more

Love this place to death and I love the lady that runs the front; the issue is that with the curries, they're VERY light on the actual ingredients - I agree with the other reviews, it tastes watered down and there's hardly any vegetables or meat that we ordered. Some days you just really need to slow down, rest a minute for the day and, most hopefully, start all over again. So was the case for me one particularly difficult day a few weeks ago. I had eaten next door at Don Mario's a couple of times, and this place is in the same strip mall right off of Fielder. I had seen it, but I honestly thought it was closed for good. As my office walls closed in, I thought I might just drive over and see if that were indeed the case. I got there, and there were actually quite a few people inside, though it wasn't "busy" for a noon lunch. The lady at the register (seemed like a one or two woman operation) was so friendly! She directed me to a seat and took my drink order. I snagged a Diet Coke. I was hopeful that the Pad Thai was on lunch special. It wasn't. I ordered it anyway. They had "Mild," "Hot" and "Thai Hot." I wanted to burn away the day, so I got "Thai Hot." Price wise, it was comparable with my regular spot, Thai Bail Leaf. Taste wise, it was on par as well. However, as I finished I noticed that the order only had 4 shrimp in it. It also didn't come with a spring roll, nor the drink. So with that, I would have to say that there wasn't much value there. However, I was full and it was good, so you get what you get. The cups for soda were pretty cool, though I noticed it had a flat taste. After I finished it I looked on the can and saw that it had expired 2 months before. It takes quite a while for diet cola to expire, so that means it must NEVER get ordered. I will return, I think, for another escape. I loved the Thai Hot and the flavor. May stick with water next time, and maybe even try something different for a change. read more

I have been coming to Sukhothai for a year now and I'm finally writing my review. I over looked them somehow. I'm not an expert on Thai food but I'm getting better all the time. And I feel Sukhothai is very good. The service is top notch the lady that is always there when I go is very nice. The restaurant is very small in a strip shopping center. The décor is simple white table cloth with a preset table. Very quiet and not very busy we have always just sat right down no wait. Casual atmosphere. The food is great to start with the appetizers are all good. I have had the shrimp fried wantons, and the cheese rolls. The main dishes vary from strip fry, curry soups, and flat noodle dishes. I have tasted the pineapple curry good but not my thing. I like the flat noodle dishes. I have tried 2 different types of Pad See Ew something like that. I get them medium spicy with chicken. Tried the beef it was okay but the beef flavor was to strong. Good size portion and the price is around 10 dollars a plate. The restaurant is BYOB so bring your own bottle of wine. Make sure it is a Riesling it goes best with spicy food. read more

I've been a fan of Thai food for years. Since the first time I tried Panang Curry, I was truly hooked. Although I've tried many other curries in the past, the Panang is my go-to curry for a taste of true heaven. For those of you who have tried it (Panang), you know exactly what I'm talking about. The flavor is unreal, stimulating, and almost indescribably perfect on the palate. On the suggestion by fellow Yelper who proposes that this is the "best" in the area, I decided to give them a shot during my lunch break yesterday. The restaurant lies within a strip mall, and in easily unnoticed unless you really know what you're looking for. Vacant storefronts on either side and with darkened shades on the front glass of the restaurant would almost give a potential customer that they are closed. Fortunately, the glowing "OPEN" sign in the front eased my worry. Upon entering, and even in the middle of the day, the dining area is quite dark...yet, relaxing. Music is soft, and there is an almost euphoric tone of "easiness" that was ever-present. I felt relaxed, yet, energized in the ambiance of the setting. The lunch menu had several selections, and, of course, I chose the Panang Curry with Chicken. I was offered a selection of "hotness" at that point (None, Mild, Hot...or "Thai Hot). I chose the "Mild," only because it was still the middle of the workday, and did not want any surprises...if you know what I mean. I had ordered the egg roll (instead of the fried tofu). Within a few seconds, I received a small cup of broth with a square of tofu at the bottom and a sprig of cilantro. A couple of spoonful tastes, and I was done -- leaving the rest. Not that it was "bad," per se. It just did not have a bit of flavor. Hmm...somewhat disappointing. Quickly, my plate of Panang Curry Chicken was served. A mound of white (jasmine?) rice, a small egg roll with dipping sauce, and a bowel of the curry and chicken. The aroma was hypnotic and mesmerizing to say the least. Now, I must say, this was about as "basic" a Panang Curry Chicken as I have ever had. By "basic," I mean, there was the curry sauce...and chicken. No vegetable (of any type), nor visible basil (that I could tell). Nonetheless, I spooned the curry onto the rice, set the bowl aside, and slowly enjoyed my bit of heaven on a warm afternoon. The taste was impeccably PERFECT. Rich, zesty, and just the right amount of spice, this thing was almost religious in the experience. No, I am not kidding. During my meal, I poured over the menu a bit. They offer a wide selection of dishes, but in my book, the dishes that are the most satisfying are those that are cooked with the coconut milk and curry. To me, this is a technique that defines the difference in what Thai food is - compared to other Asian dishes. In addition, if you have ever made it on your own at home (as I have), then you know what time it takes to prepare. At Sukhothai, one can tell that this is no pre-made curry. Each dish is made fresh and by order. This is the way it should be, especially with a coconut milk based curry. You can't just make a huge batch of this stuff, and just ladle it over meat. Rather, this stuff is a process that requires constant attention as the milk and curry merge into union. The end-result though, is a taste of heaven on a plate. Quaint, cute, and incredibly delicious, this is undeniably what Thai food should taste like! Lunch portions are perfect in size and price - $6.95 for most options. $9.95 if you want shrimp. I've been coming to this place for years and I feel like the food is great and very consistent! The restaurant is usually pretty quite and doesn't make me feel awkward eating alone. The portions are consistent with the prices! I usually go for the Panang Curry and am never disappointed. The chicken satay and goong hom pha are both very great appetizers and are both pretty cheap! I love that it's a small family owned facility that still has great seasoning and flavors! Unfortunately this Thai restaurant was slightly under my expectations and totally average at least in terms of curry. Had the red curry with beef and shrimp and though they only charged me for shrimp price of the dish, there were only 2 pieces of shrimp in the whole dish, the beef was an average amount but the whole dish seemed kind of empty due to the lack of vegetables and other fillers. The curry itself was also more runny than I prefer as well. Was hoping for curry that was little thicker and creamier from the coconut milk. They did very well though with the spicy level and got the hottest spice available, it had a nice kick to it more than your average so their quality of dry peppers kind of made up for the runny curry. Though they list that the curry only comes with bamboo shoots which is what I got, it would have been nice if they offered a dish that came with more the vegetables such as green peppers, onions, etc. read more

Now I'm a novice to Thai food but wow did I really enjoy this place. For appetizers, we had the Cheese Rolls. These were tiny fried rice paper with cream cheese filling. Kind of a tiny cheese egg roll. For the entre I had the Pineapple Curry with chicken. It was pretty much a curry soup with chicken and pineapple. Dang it was good. Now I like spicy but since I've never eaten here before I opted for medium spicy. I'm really glad I did. With the curry paste and peppers it was on the warm side. The other half had a noodle dish that was very good also. The price: Almost everything was in the $10 range. The service: A-1 you could not have asked for better. One thing we did not know is that they are BYOB. Next time I'll have a nice dry Riesling to cool off the spice. Really good food with very friendly service. We will be back very soon. read more

Food is good (pad see ewe)! However, I want to take into consideration price and quantity. It's expensive. It's probably not worth the amount they give you. My plate was of course more than half of noodles ( the most filling and cheapest ingredient I'm thinking) maybe, 6-8 strips of beef, some carrots, broccoli, and egg. This was a lunch size portion, for a dinner-size price. $10. To give you an idea how it compares, plate size-wise, if you eat raising Cane's, that was the size of my plate. Again, I want to say quality is good, and the owner is very nice. But I can't agree with the pricing sorry. read more

I went back today and it wasn't as good as it used to be. The Thai iced coffee was overly sweet and weak. The chicken sate was pretty bland, and the red curry chicken was forgettable. The service was good. This is the only bad experience I've had at this restaurant, so I'll definitely come back the next time I'm in town. I always prefer supporting local businesses like Sukhothai if it's a choice between that or one of the million chain restaurants in Arlington. read more

Not thrilled with the lunch. There are no noodle dishes on the specials, and the rice served was plain, not jasmine. The "soup" was a very thin, almost flavorless broth with a single small cube of tofu in it, along with it a small chop of lemongrass and a small leaf of cilantro. The "egg roll" was about the size of 2/3's of my little finger. Very small amount of protein, lots of green beans, but nothing else. All of this for over $10, when other Thai places in the area really fill you up for that amount. I don't get it. It comes off as skimpy and blah. Horrible! I have eaten Thai food all over the world and this was the worst I had had by far. Who puts tofu that is not fried in fried rice? The tofu fried rice was sweet tasting, had about 1 half of an onion in it, the tofu was soft and not at all fried as requested, maybe 7 string beans and 4 pieces of broccoli. I also ordered steamed shrimp and shrimp rolls that were tough and had an after taste to them. The only thing that was worth it was the Thai Iced Tea. I would not recommend and would not come back. $27 wasted on less than fresh ingrediants. read more
