It was alright. The lady was very nice. The food could have been better. The wonton soup tasted nice, but I would have liked more and larger wontons in it. We discovered this little gem yesterday. What a surprise! It doesn't look like much from the outside which is partly why we had never ventured in but the interior has a delightful, soothing and distinctly Asian atmosphere. It seems to be a family run restaurant and you can excuse the fact that there may not be someone to greet you at the door by fact that the waitress wears many hats. Hint, seat yourself. After you are seated she gracefully helps you through the simple and efficient menu. The table of Asian ladies sitting next to us were carrying on a hilarious conversation as were the older white ladies adjacent to us. It seemed more like a big family get together than a restaurant lunch. And the food was obviously lovingly prepared with every vegetable hand sliced and placed on the plate. The sauces were rich but not overpowering. The rice paper egg rolls were perfect. Every request for any changes in our order were handled with tact and understanding. In fact our waitress went out of her way to ensure communication was correct. I have ate in Thai restaurants from Vancouver to Slovakia and I am very pleased with this one. Best phad thai I've ever had! Very friendly atmosphere. Took my mom to try her first thai food after having loved this place's food so much. The owner explained that his cook had just quit and not showed up, so he was cooking, and that made it slow, he apologized... but he brought a free appetizer, some deep-fried egg-roll kind of things with a light raspberry sauce on them - they were AMAZING. Then when the phad thai came, specifically what I recommended to my mom since their's is so good and I know she's a little scared of new foods... she went crazy for it. She absolutely loved the food and the place, and the owner's little daughter, just about her granddaughters' age. Extremely disappointed with the service. Asked for no veggies and no onions. The soup we received had onions it it. We figured it was already made that way so we are around them. Then after getting the tuna roll it had cucumbers in it. We pulled the servers aside. The just said "That's not onions that's cucumbers" we looked at the two ladies and explained cucumbers weren't suppose to be in the roll either. We had opted out. We didn't eat the tuna roll and decided to just pay and leave. One of the employees came out to my car and asked what was wrong. We then had to explain the whole thing again. I came her for lunch excited to try the Pad See-Ew because it is my favorite dish. I was underwhelmed. The place is clean and seems fine- it took several minutes for the waitress to visit me initially but then the food came very fast. It was hot but lacked flavor and presentation. The sauce was extremely thin and there were only a few pieces of broccoli and chicken. Mostly noodles in a watery sauce. The dishes at the table nearby looked good so it may be better to try different dishes. It wasn't clear if I was supposed to get up to pay or if the waitress brought me a check. I went searching for Phad Thai, and have never been so disappointed in a dish as I was this one. I t was soooooooooooooo sweet I asked the servers if it was a sweet and sour dish accidentally served to me.....they said this was there normal Phad Thai......Also the two servers where so enthralled with the guests at another table, it was impossible to get them to bring water to the table......Will never ever set foot in this place again. read more

Husband had an unremarkable stir fry dish as well. The dishes left a lot to be desired and we were disappointed given the reviews. The service here was also not very good. People coming in with orders they wanted to place for 'to go' were given priority despite our being present longer and ready to order. Also this is not a young kid friendly place. This place has the best won ton soup. It's always homeade and fresh. The sweet and sour chicken is also phenomenal! Served on a HUGE plate filled with fresh veggies, pineapple, yummy chicken and a mound of rice. Plan on taking some home for leftovers if you order it. The owners are nice, the prices are great. We were taken here by family members who come here often and they love it. Decor is nice, but they need to lose the TV. We started with Jasmine Tea, Tom Yum soup, Vegetable rolls and a California roll. All were very good. They our meals came. Our parents liked their meals (sorry not sure what they ordered) and we ordered Chicken Pad Thai - can't go wrong right. WRONG. This was unlike any Pad Thai we had ever had. It was awful. It tasted like they dumped a half bottle of BBQ sauce in it. I hope for their sakes the chef was just having a bad night, because we couldn't eat it. The staff was terrific and the owner took one of the Pad Thais off the bill. That was nice of her. We have been there before and liked it, so we will def. go back, but I won't be ordering the Pad Thai for sure. read more

The red curry is just incredible and the vegetables are always so fresh with the vibrant colors and snap you'd expect. The place sits in a very unassuming strip mall but when you enter you will see it almost always packed with people. Inside is always clean and the wait staff while not so great on English are always polite and efficient. Spring roles are tasty but on the oily side. Not too found of their Satay. I love Thai food and have eaten at a lot of restaurants and Thai Basil is one of the best!! Their Thai tea, tom kha gai, pad Thai, red curry, and egg rolls are amazing! Great flavor and just the right amount of spice. They even have fried cheesecake, fried bananas (raspberry sauce optional), and coconut ice cream for dessert. This has been a local favorite for our family ever since we first discovered this little gem. There is a lot of competition for Thai food in the Tampa Bay area. But rest assured, if you choose this for your Thai food fix, you will be enjoying the best of the best. They have a full sushi bar, beautiful interior decorated with all sorts of interesting Thai knick knacks, and best of all, they have some of the best, most authentic Thai food you will find in this part of the world. The Amazing Chicken in Penang curry sauce is my usual pick. It is out of this world. I usually substitute the broccoli for mixed vegetables. The staff is always accommodating for special requests like that. The Pad Thai is outstanding as well, but I have never had anything bad here whenever I elect to venture outside of my usual favorites. Just add one of their specialty sushi rolls and some hot Sake. I'm in heaven. I never leave here without leftovers either, because the portions are very generous. Some people get fussy about the sometimes slow service and the odd hours here, but I feel that it's worth being patient when you know the food will be excellent. Just try not to go when you are super hungry if a little wait is big problem for you. It's a friendly, family run place that's well worth being patient for. read more

We had the Sweet & Sour with chicken this evening and it was FANTASTIC. The sauce is not what you might expect - remember this is a Thai restaurant not a Chinese restaurant. I was a little intimated by the description of carrots, pineapple (yes pineapple), tomatoes, white onions, snow peas, green and red peppers, plus cucumbers (yep you read that one right too) in a sweet & sour sauce with white rice, but I am sure glad I tried it. Thai basil is one of those restaurants where you found a pretty damn good place to eat what youre craving...so why keep looking for others who just wont meet your standards! Thats why Thai basil has been my go to Thai restaurant for years. I cant see wasting cash on crap Thai when I have this wonderful little place with that Im always happy with. So, I LOVE Thai food and have a pretty diverse taste when it comes to cultures and foods. Thai, mediterainean, middle eastern foods being some of my favourites. You can keep your pizza and spaghetti!...thats where my diversity ends however. You will not find me recommending the frog legs here as Im one of those people who figures if "it tastes like chicken, just stick to the damn chicken!". =p So, Im not sure how the frog legs here are. Judge for yourself. What I can say about this place is what your parents and teachers taught you long ago...dont judge a book by its cover. As mentioned by someone else, its a hole in the wall in a crummy strip mall. But thats were the disappointment ends. I always do take out from here...so I cant state what the sit down service is like. Satay chicken or Panang chicken curry are typically my go to here but Ive had many a dishes here and also would be quick to recommend the pepper chicken or brocolli chicken as well. Its honestly about what YOU like, so try out what sounds good. I doubt youll be disappointed! The BEST menu items however imo are not entrees at all. For me, the most important and delish items on the menu...you HAVE to try the cheese rolls! I know...it might sound odd, shrimp, cream cheese, carrots and green onions fried in a spring roll...but you cannot pass it up! And its a MUST to dip it in their mouth watering raspberry sauce.
