The ambiance here was nice and the service was pretty good. However, this definitely was not my favorite Thai food in the area. The veggie spring rolls were good and had a nice sauce with them. The pad Thai had a decent flavor, but definitely had a lot more tamarind than I'm used to and was way too acidic. Thai basil service was amazing. The server was attentive and never let my water go down. I love that kind of service because they really want you to enjoy your meal and want for nothing. The Thai coffee and tea were perfectly balanced in terms of sweet and caffeinated. The chicken basil stir fry had a healthy portion of chicken and wasn't just bogged down with onions. I loved that!! The flavors of this were intense in the right dosage and the sauce from the chicken was so rich I wanted to just drink it! But for the sake of being poised and proper I just poured it on my rice. The dumplings and the sauce were also delicious!! The prices were more than fair for the portions you got, I still had plenty for leftovers. First, the food is excellent, the staff is curteous and it is well decorated. The menu is HUGE! The name in front of the restaurant includds "brewery" but they only have 4 beers, which includes a good IPA. I tried a Tamp Roll which I liked! Try it, it is worth it! read more

I ordered food for takeout with my GF for an at home date night. I got the pad Thai and I loved it. It's a bit more "saucy" than other pad Thai I've had. I liked it a lot. It's my favorite pad Thai I've had in the area. My GF got the Massaman Curry and she let me try it. It was VERY good. We both like a decent amount of spice in our Thai dishes also and they did the spice level well. The steamed dumplings were also delicious. Ordered Pad Thai from door dash. Food was fresh, properly cooked and large portion. However, this was not Pad Thai. I immediately tasted spicy ketchup. My husband ordered sweet n sour chicken and I ordered the chicken Prik King, neither of us cared for these dishes that we had ordered previously, something had changed. Very small Thai restaurant which is very popular with the locals in the area. Service is fabulous. The food was super fresh. We started with hand rolls and fried chicken wings with chili sauce. The hand rolls were stuffed with eel and a very nice portion. The wings were fresh out of the fryer and the chili sauce made a nice touch to the hot wing. Tuna roll had a large portion of sushi in each roll and was very fresh. The poke bowl was packed solid with fresh sushi, edamame, seaweed salad, white rice, and salad. Haven't been to this Thai Basil in years. Ended up here because they were the only ones open this early on a Sunday. This menu is different than the one further down on W. Bay Dr. We were surprised to see there is no longer Sushi on it and the prices are different. The restaurant was virtually empty at noon on Sunday so the service was excellent. I ordered the vegetables in sweet-and-sour sauce and this was a disappointment. The vegetables were so hard I could barely chew them. I ended up taking most of it home with me so it couldbe re-cooked. Today is Tuesday and I can't honestly remember what my friend ordered but he ate it all so it must've been good. I ordered wonton soup as an appetizer and there were lots of vegetables in it, which surprise me, but they too were hard as rocks and I couldn't chew those either. It's been quite a while since we had last eaten here, like 10 years. They are located on the south side of East Bay Dr. just east of Belcher Rd. The interior is neat and tidy. It wasn't crowded on the Friday night we were there. For appetizers, we started with soup: the Tom Kha Kai and the Tom Yum with shrimp. The Tom Kha was too thin and flavorless. The Tom Yum was nice but a little heavy on the heat. We also ordered the Angel Wings and Som Tum (papaya salad). The Angel Wings were very tasty as was the papaya salad. Both were the high point of the meal. For entrées, we ordered the Duck Curry and the Pad Thai with chicken. The Duck dish had a Panang curry sauce that was flavorless and the duck was a very small over-cooked portion. However, the Pad Thai was great! The noodles were perfectly cooked and the dish had all the right flavors. As a heads-up, all dinners come with a complimentary literal cup of chicken and rice soup which was very good. We had a good meal however the standouts were the Angel Wings, Papaya Salad and the Pad Thai. For what we ordered, it was quite a pricey meal. The reason I am giving 2 stars is I walk in to place an order during lunch . It was a few good minutes before I was greeted. When I was, I informed her I wanted to place an order to go. She asked if I knew what I wanted, and I shook my head yes. She then, as I just started to speak, answered the phone. She stated she was sorry when she finished the call and then again shunned me and answered the phone again. I tell her what I wanted she rings it up and then charges my card twice. The best Thai food I've e have had since moving to Florida. We had the house egg rolls, Panang curry, crab rangoons, Tom kha soup, Tom yum soup, spicy basil noodles, and thai chicken wings. I wish there were more veggies and protein in the curry and noodle dish and that is hey weren't cust as large and next time I would definitely order the wings 'crispy' as the skin was soggy. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant at all for a majority of our meal, which was nice obviously because of Covid. The waitress was very nice and attentive. About a million thai restaurants closer to where I currently live but I will continue to come back to this hole in the wall as I have for 5 years now. Some people likely won't come here due to its outside appearance but it is definitely worth it. Their Pad Thai is probably my favorite of the hundred or so that I've tried. They also out perform other restaurants on common thai staple menu items. Their egg/veggie rolls are more flavorful. Their satay sauce more peanut-y. The soups are hearty and they dont skimp on ingredients. End your night with the fried banana and you'll definitely be back. read more

Disclaimer: I am a novice when it comes to Thai food. With that said, I have enjoyed what we've ordered here at Thai Basil. As of this review we've been here 3 times, as the 4 stars indicate, yes I'm a fan. I could have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the language problems I've encountered here. This restaurant is located in the middle of a strip mall on the south side of East Bay Dr, about half way between Belcher and US-19. It's not the easiest place to locate. There is a Verizon store and the Philly Cheese Steak drive thru fronting the lot. Our go to dish at any Southeast Asian restaurant ( Thai, Vietnamese, or Chinese ) is the rice. If we don't like it, we probably won't return. Score a big yes for the Combo Fried Rice!! Very flavorful with chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, scallions, and onions. Next is the Thai Pad w/Chicken. Seeing my Bride cannot handle any kind of hot spice, so we order our Thai Pad with no heat. But I must say that by itself it's very tasty, although I do add my own heat to it from the four choices of flavorings that they bring to the table. My wife enjoys the Won ton soup. A lite beef broth, loaded with minced pork, snow peas, mushroom, napa, and won ton wrap. I enjoy the Tom Yum, which is slightly hot and has mushrooms, green onions, with spicy lime juice. On one visit, I was telling our young server what we wanted and there was a definite language problem we were having. I was telling her that I wished Tom Yum soup, not the soup with the coconut milk in it, it just did not sound appealing to me. Well, I got the soup ( Tom Kha Kai ) with the coconut juice. She insisted it did not have coconut juice in it. Finally she saw that it was the wrong soup, but by this time I enjoyed it so much that I told her I'd keep it. Lol, just broadening my horizon again.
