My favorite panang curry in town!! This spot is almost 45 minutes round trip from my house and it's worth it every time!!

I've been coming here since it first opened, growing up down the round and now being in my 30s. I couldn't wait to come back since I just moved back to town. I ordered some appetizers too, so excited. Well-the salad rolls were gross tasting. They tasted like bitter pieces of sprouts which overpowered everything else. I've lived in 8 states now since Florida and I've had lots of good Thai salad rolls. I politely tasted them, strongly disliked them, and told the server I didn't care for them, much to my surprise since I love salad rolls. BUT. The manager came over to tell me, that the policy here, EVEN if something is gross or they deliver the wrong item, is never to take an item off the bill. I've never heard of this at a restaurant. I told her that I normally love them but they tasted off at this spot and she told me that it's not her job to let picky people sample food. I explained to her politely that I felt this was very poor service especially since I had been a regular for the better part of a decade and was going to review my experience honestly. She said she didn't care and I got on yelp to see how other people felt. I'll never come back again! After 16 plus years of patronage, you can forget me! And also after reading other reviews, I read one too many where people had whole cockroaches cooked into their meals. read more

Best Thai food I've ever had! We had the pineapple curry fried rice and green curry fish. My goodness. Such an unassuming place. Service was kind of slow but with heart. You can tell they're proud of their food. Will definitely be coming back. Wishing them all the success. read more

Unfortunately, I had a poor meal here. Ordered take-out of 2 Tom Yum soups, pad thai & spicy basil noodles. Tom Yum soup was lacking in ingredients like pineapple, bamboo shoots, tomato...only had mushrooms & green onions. Pad Thai was worst Ive ever had. Tasted like rice noodles sauteed in tomato sauce. No egg or bean sprouts. The spicy basil noodle was very oily, but had good flavor. Wont order from here again. read more

I had the yellow curry with tofu and it was absolutely delicious! The inside was well decorated and very clean. The food came out fast as well. They had a very extensive menu and more variety than I've seen at some other Thai restaurants in the area. I will definitely be making a return trip! read more

Just simply delicious !!! I've been eating here for over 20 years. Not the fanciest place but clean and nice. I tend to get Prik King chicken. Superb depth of flavor. I have a little broccoli added as well. Heat to your liking although medium is fine for me. Every time I eat there I just leave amazed that I can't have it every day, it's SO damn good. Delicious dinner! Daughter and I tried two vegetarian dishes. A noodle dish called Thai Basil and a tofu and cashew nut with added veggies for a two dollar extra fee. Very flavorful and huge portions. The vegetable rolls were a little overdone and not out favorite but the meals definitely make this a restaurant to revisit when we are in town. In addition the interior was very peaceful with a little fountain and traditional pictures. read more

Ok, so I've been here twice now, two days in a row (LOL) and I have to say, it's pretty good from what I've tried so far! I think the pad thai would be the real test, but I haven't ordered that yet. Super friendly service. I'm pretty polite too, so we were saying "thank you" back and forth to each other probably 3 times too many. Interior is nicely decorated and clean. Typical Thai decorations and accents on the wall. I ordered the pineapple fried rice and toasted tortillas (based off of another Yelper's recommendation) and both were very good! Tortillas were especially yummy! Crispy crunchy goodness! Fried rice had a nice curry flavor and the pineapples added just the right bit of sweetness! Today I had chicken larb, medium hot. My tongue is nicely burning right now lol. Their medium hot is actually medium hot and not an "American medium hot". Very nice flavors in the larb! I will definitely be visiting this place often! I already know there are a few reviews for this place thinking the exact same thing I am. This place is fantastic. I love Thai food and have been going to this place for YEARS. Now, I usually won't write a review if everyone else thinks how I do, but I had to drop a line longer than a "Tip" on the Toasted Tortilla. Let that sink in...now follow my line of questioning "A tortilla in a Thai Place?" *Food Delivered* "YES!" This is a crispy tortilla, toasted but crispy like an eggroll and stuffed with chicken and shrimp generously but more in a paste than chunks of meat. I'm not sure how that's supposed to sound appetizing, but trust me, it works and it is amazing. And it wasn't just me who thought so. A Serbian, a Puerto Rican, and I'm German/Irish walked into a Thai restaurant.... (sorry had to). 6 thumbs up. My Pad See-Ew Chicken (which I always get at Thai places) was on-par and tasty as well. It's the closest you can get to authentic Thai food in Clearwater! Huge portion, great service, efficient, and definitely recommend it! I ordered the Tom Kha Gai (spicy coconut chicken soup) and Pad Thai (stir-fried Thai style rice noodle). Soup is good, but definitely tastes different. Pad Thai though, was pretty authentic. Overall, great dining experience and I'll return whenever I miss home (which is all the time). read more

Can't really recommend - one person managing the front of the restaurant and one person in the back doing all the kitchen work. There were 4 or 5 take out orders for food delivery while we ate, we were the only customers and it still took 20-25 mins to receive our basic noodle dishes. I went with Pad Thai because it has to be something you can't mess up, right? It was a large portion of food but noodles were over cooked, very soft and all the flavor came from what is definitely a squeeze bottle sugary pad Thai sauce. The other dish was a similar issue. I don't understand the high 4 or 5 star glowing reviews, the dishes were not fresh, no vegetables with my noodles, just chicken, soft noodles and sweet sugary pre-prepared sauce from a store. The only TV in the center of the restaurant was on the local news in Chicago for some reason and the music playing was what I'd call 90's sexy saxophone music. Go to the other Thai place about a mile away next to the Spectrum store. I'd give them a 4 out if 5. Much better tasting food, they are also typically fairly busy which is a good sign. read more

I actually had to stop eating my lunch to write this review, that's how bad my food is. Pros: They know how to properly fry tofu, they will make it Thai hot if you ask (unlike most places who still make it white dude hot when you ask for Thai hot), good service, nice atmosphere. Cons: My food (a Thai basil noodle dish) tastes like a tire fire. Now I realize why they're called cellophane noodles--they are cooked in the packaging. I am honest to god searching through this dish looking for pieces of burnt plastic to post a pic. You know how your racist and/or culturally insulated co-workers look at you when you bring curry for lunch? Well, this is a whole new level of glare. They think I am burning Thai food in effigy in my cubicle. Also, the ONLY veggies in it are onions and red/green bell peppers. Come ON. Where's my snow peas, cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, etc.? And speaking of 'shrooms, they use white or baby 'bellos (can't tell), which always throws off an Asian dish, fusion or otherwise. And a can of Diet Coke is $1.50. I still tipped $4 on takeout, but will NEVER go here again. Disgusted. read more

IGNORANT STAFF SEEMED NICE Repeat - I said "No nuts please. I'm allergic to nuts" a couple times and had it repeated to me on the phone. But shortly after tasting all of my take-out from this place my stomach was swelling and I was huddled near the toilet for almost three hours. Mind you I can have 'peanut traces' and peanut oil and be totally fine (it takes a lot to spark my reaction)- so this was an obvious disregard of my request. Because of this ignorance my reviews are a bit biased but imagine if I was one of those people who go into a breathing shut-down upon ingesting nuts? And if they don't communicate to each other about this, what else don't they communicate on? WELL WHAT ABOUT THE FOOD Before my body started rejecting the food, I had tasted enough dishes. The Toasted Tortilla appetizer was unique. It seemed similar to a Philippine Lumpia with its crispiness and accompanying sweet sauce except it was quesadilla shaped. Our Chicken Panang Curry was more watery than I'd like and that created a weaker flavor. At least the Peppers and Chicken bits had a nice crisp to them and had nice colors. Finally, the Pad Thai looked delicious and had a great variety of other things besides noodles--but I was surprised and not liking all the sweetness. There was more Sugar than necessary and less of the tangy-ness that makes Pad Thai sauce. read more

My all time favorite Thai place. I always get the Thai Pepper Chicken. So good. It's not that overdone black pepper that some places use. They use a blend of spices that are just right. My bf gets the Chicken Broccoli and says that is very good as well. I can't go anywhere else now, they've spoiled me with the flavors they use. The owner knows me by name now. When I call and say my first name, she ask me if I want my Pepper chicken. LOL I was shocked. So sweet! She always gives me a little thimble size container of the dry peppers. One of my work cliques raves about this place. When I asked them about the other 3, wait FOUR Thai places within a few miles of our job, they still preferred this one with the drive over the others, and I can understand why. The lunch menu has a larger selection than most . You get all the typical curries - red, green, yellow, Panang, and Massaman, plus Duck, Catfish, and salmon curry. Other basic dishes include Almond, Cashew, Garlic, Pepper, and the noodle dishes of Pad Thai and Pad See-ew. I haven't had real Massaman since moving up here, so that was what I went for. Got it hot and it sure was. My co-workers said the chef sometimes goes a bit crazy on the spice, and the pepper flakes were floating in my curry. This wasn't a bad thing, but definitely not something I can do on most work lunches. Regardless, the curry flavor was excellent. I have missed this. And with the level of spice, I did end up taking leftovers home, so that was an added bonus. Coworkers got the gamut - shrimp fried rice, cashew chicken, panang curry, pad thai. They loved what they got. I look forward to our return, and the difficulty of trying something different since they do Massaman so well. read more

I have been going to Thai Basil pretty much since they opened. I think it's been almost 20 years now. I have searched far and wide, and have been unable to find one I like quite as well. There was that one little Thai place in the Amazon Jungle, nestled in Puerto Maldonado, Peru. Wadee did make a mean fried rice. But alas, I cannot go to Peru every time I want Thai food. It's not unusual for me to go in to TB for dinner and go home with 3 more meals to eat throughout the week. The cheese rolls are divine, and I have yet to find those anywhere. I honestly don't think there has been anything there I did not enjoy and I've tried most of it. I think the only con is sometimes the service can be a little on the slow side, so don't go during a busy time if you're in a rush. But seriously, who wants to rush good food, anyway? read more

The best thing I can say about this place is that it has nice decor inside. Apparently if you order an entree and you do not like it, the management will not let you exchange for something else or take that entree off your bill. They claim, it's not their fault that we did not like the entree. They did nothing to try to make our situation better. The Sushi bar was not even open. The customer service was not there. We will never return or recommend anyone to go here. read more

Went there with my wife today and we would rate the food as bland, the ambiance as lacking and the service just so so....simple food just spiced heavily and all without any distinctive taste. I had the Chicken Pad Thai and it was really boring and my wife had the Curry Salmon and also described it as dull..... Last time we went it was either a Friday or Saturday night about a month ago, and unfortunately they were poorly staffed. One lady was doing everything except cooking. We stood there for a good 10 minutes before seeing any staff and being seated. She did very well despite the circumstances though. Hours are weird as well. Thai Basil is open for lunch and dinner but they close in between. There have been a couple of times we wanted to have lunch here but discovered they were closed and had to go elsewhere :( However, 4 stars because the food is sooo good and this place is a family favorite. read more

I wish I could give three and a half stars for this one. I think giving three is too harsh, but the place is not quite worthy of four. If you need a Thai food fix, this place will do, as the prices are decent and the food is served fast enough. They DO Serve their carry-out customers with priority, as another reviewer has mentioned. You may not want to eat in unless the place is slow. The green curry isn't bad, here. Sometimes there can be a milky blandness if you don't want the stuff searing hot, but that's not the case, here. And the pad see-ew is actually pretty decent if sometimes a bit greasy. The veggies they serve are in good condition and the sauces are usually very tasty. The fried rice is average in regard to flavor. The portions are fairly large, though, for the price. This evens things out a little for the overall experience. The restaurant, itself, is a little on the lower end of nice, but it is clean. The decorations are typical for an American Thai place, too. It is not unpleasant, though, and if there aren't many customers, a family or a couple could have a nice, inexpensive time. read more

I tell you I have been to alot of Thai places and I was there with a freind who is from Vietnam and we ate here often on the two weeks we were in the area. The ribs with Awesome Sauce(not the real name) was delicious we ordered it at lunch as an app and then at dinner as entree. Originally gave it 5 starts but by the time I paid I was so disgusted by the service that I could not keep it at 5. Delicious curry and very affordable, vegetables tasted fresh and crunchy; however, service is slow don't expect to get a water refill, there was a spider crawling all over the floor that came out of some plant nearby!! and good luck trying to pay your bill had to stand there for like 10 mins waiting on someone to come by. read more
