I can't say enough good things about TGR Exotics! We had our 3 year old's birthday party there and everyone had a fantastic time! Gwen and Rachael were incredible hosts throughout, the kids and the adults all had fun, and we all learned some fun facts about animals. This was the easiest and stress free party I have had for my children. Gwen and her staff did the majority of the setup before we arrived, they helped us unload our car and set up what we brought the day of, and played with our boys while we did final preparations. We took about 11 kiddos [ages 7-11] to this park, and they had the best time with the animals. The owner, Gwen and her staff are clearly passionate about sharing these animals with everyone. Gwen even set up the party room for our kids and made sure each child had the chance to touch -- and sometimes even hold -- the animals. The team made the children feel completely safe while teaching them so much about each animal. There's such a wide variety here -- from sloths and tortoises to bears, monkeys, and so much more -- and you get to see them all up close! I highly recommend this experience for small groups. And if you have a child who loves animals, this is the perfect place for a birthday party. You won't be disappointed! read more

Second time visiting this zoo. We come from WA State to visit Texas family. This is a fun, affordable activity to do, that's different than your average zoo. It's walking around the property and seeing the animals they have, which some you get to pet ( goats, tortoise, pigs, zebu, sheep). I worked here for approximately 2 weeks in 2022 and can tell you the place is terrible. First off, when I worked here the owner has horrible employee conditions. Everyday I was scheduled to arrive at 8AM and the owner knew that it was an hour drive to get to work. With traffic included I usually left home at 6:50 to arrive on time. On the day I quit I was texted at 6:55AM and told I would be opening with another employee at 7AM. She gave 5 minutes notice and expected me to make an hour drive in 5 minutes. She also was continuously toxic to everyone there and would straight up bully everyone there. Second, the animals at this exotic park live in horrible enclosures, bad conditions, and poor diets. This place is the definition of animals in cages. The bears diet was more of a diet for a toddler and consisted of cereal and marshmallows everyday. They even have a Toucan which lived in a cage about the size for a conure. I talked to another employee explaining that they need a lot of room and that the bird looked ill and was clearly visible by the cracking and peeling of his beak. I then said it was most likely diabetes because of the poor diet. Which the other employee responded with "yeah that's really weird we had a previous toucan that died of diabetes." I was also never paid for my time here due to the owner continuously putting off giving me the W-4 forms. I do miss all the animals I got to work with, they were such amazing and impressive animals. It was really a dream job turned into a nightmare. Took the family on a Sunday evening tour. This place is amazing and the personal experience with the animals and staff is unmatched.

I had a wonderful time. My tour guide Gwen was wonderful. The wolves, bears, anteaters, sloths, wildcats and monkeys were amazing!! This is a more personal up close experience than you would have at a typical zoo. I'm very glad I went! What an amazing experience! Be sure to get there about 5 to 10 minutes before the appointment time. Bring a large cold drink because you may be in the sun for awhile. read more

5 stars all around! We had a great time and all were entertained- 2 adults and 2 boys ages 4 and 9. I love how they do guided tours- make sure you check the site and sign up beforehand. It's not a place to just show up to. They are very organized and the limited group feels intimate where you learn a lot from the guide, get to see the animals up close and pet some of them. Some are in enclosures and some roam free! We saw some really cool animals such as porcupines, wolves, pigs, a vulture, monkeys and apes and different exotic cats. Our favorite were the capybaras! They are so cute and one was friendly and loved to be pet. We also got to see them feed some of the animals. It was a super experience and the staff is wonderful. Bonus: they don't try and upsell you with a snack bar or gift shop! It's all about the animals. The tour was very prompt- 90 minutes. I would go again and even look into the parties they do. read more

This place is fabulous!!!! Who knew that ten minutes away from me would be this amazing place where you can get up close and personal with so many different types of animals. Very responsive to questions via email and booking a tour was a breeze. It started and ended right on time and Gwen was a fantastic guide....so knowledgeable and patient in answering everyone's questions and handling excited little ones. She made everyone feel welcome and it really felt like a VIP zoo tour. Highly recommend this to anyone!! The tour meets at the chained part of the fence with the animals painted on it. Easy peasy parking along said fence and simple to find. Worth driving to even if you live further away than I do. Be ready to pet some animals, learn a lot and have some fun! read more

We have been to this place several times this year. In February we booked a session called the Reptile Encounter. It was a small group with less than 10 people and you get a lot to know about reptiles - mainly snakes. They take approx 5 out of the habitat and pass them around, you can but you don't have the opportunity to touch them of let them hang around your neck. We have also booked the Basic Tour twice which mainly gives you access to almost all their other animals. You can get pretty close with some of them. We learn more and more every time. You need to book the event you want online - they are always at the same time slots every day of the week. You can see what's available and what the costs are. Due to COVID-19 some of the encounters are currently not offered. They do not do general admission with just showing up. Parking available curbside. read more

Do not go with good shoes, shit cover ground will get your shoes smelly and muddy if there was just rain. This is a guided tour, you can not take your time and wander at your own pace. You have a set start and end time then you are kicked off the property. Bathrooms are porta potty are only bathrooms are absolute filth and vomit inducing stank (not kid use friendly). The animal variety is ok, but majority are caged. Avoid the add on experiences are a total rip off for price vs time. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The negative experience is the quality of the property and management of the animal viewing experience. read more

Had a wonderful morning at the park taking the tour with Gwen. She was never rushed and encouraged questions. The animals are well keep. We also did the sloth experience which was so cool! Safety is explained early for the sake of the animals and humans and opportunities are available for touching because you know we all want to touch. Gracious host and staff. Took my son here for spring break and did the reptile encounter. We all enjoyed every second of the hour long exhibit, the reptiles and the workers who presented them to us. They were all very friendly and knowledgeable. We will be returning again soon for the full effect. read more

We did the Look Inside Encounter. It's a bit pricey but you get to see a lot of animals up close. We were the only ones on the tour so we saw everything at a leisure pace. Our tour guide was Nick and he was nice enough to wait for us at the gate. Houston traffic was terrible on a Sat morning so that's why we were several mins late. I would definitely recommend this place over the Houston zoo. read more

If you're tired of going to the zoo where 80% of the animals are sleeping, this is the place for you! The excellent tour guide often interacts with the animals and gives them treats, so they are extremely active when the tour group comes around, making for a far more fun experience. Unfair conditions to animals. Owner walked around feeding animals cookies, cereal, and other foods that are not suitable for the specimen. The bears are given improper diets, the hyena is well over weight. The aardvarks appear to be in poor health with bed sores on their bodies because they're not given enough bedding. All concrete. An aardvark, an African wonder and it is abused by being forced to live on concrete, no space to dig, no space at all. They looked like they need medical attention. Not only that, but the tour was horrible with misinformed facts about the animals which was given by the owner. And to the owner, if you're reading this and do not like what you are seeing... do a better job in the welfare of your animals. There is no reason these animals should be sentenced to life in your hell hole. Do better. Very disappointed in this establishment. Visiting this park is the last straw to visiting road side shows. Always disappointing and truly unfair to the animals. There should be stricter laws to caring for wildlife. Next time I'll just go to an actual zoo such as Houston Zoo who genuinely care for their animals. read more

Looking for last minute plans and I called to find out you have to make plans ahead of time ... Can't just show up and check things out. They called me back and they worked really hard to make themselves available for us to stop by and see parts of their property that were not already occupied. The guy was great... Took us around to what he could and really gave us one on one attention with the animals. He was laid back and fun with a sense of humor. We had the sloth experience which was amazing. Can't wait to go back. Really felt like I was getting a private tour. Animals were all very healthy looking and happy.. very clean facilities. Very impressed. Fantastic experience A++++++! We booked a Sunday 9am basic tour which was nice since most of the animals were being fed breakfast and were out and about and ready to socialize. We saw wolves, giant tortoises, pigs, goats, vultures, birds, monkeys, an otter, porcupine, muntjac deer, a lynx, caracal, brown bears, aardvarks, hyenas, buffalos and most importantly capybaras. My family LOVES capybaras and we have been looking for a place where we can encounter with them. For an add on fee of $50 per person for fifteen minutes you can feed Finn and Gill and give them belly rubs. It was the best part of the day. I highly recommend TGR and the staff was so nice and knowledgeable. Our tour guide, I wish I could remember his name was awesome and could answer every question we asked. Sara was also very knowledgeable during our encounter and you could tell how much she cared for Finn and Gill. The animals are very well taken care of and loved. We have told all of our friends and they are so excited to book their tour and see the Capys. read more

Wonderful tour! It was our first time here amd we booked the 'Behind the scenes' tour with Nick. We really enjoyed it! Lots of photo ops, lots of chances to touch, hold or pet the appropriate animals, got to feed quite a few of them. We really appreciated the wide variety of animals amd especially how educational the tour was- we didn't expect to learn so much about each animal's habitat, habits etc. This was a wonderful way to spend 2 hours and we'd love to come back for another tour. We had the best time there! TGR Exotics is a wonderful way to spend the day learning about animals. Before you come you must book online, and you can even do that on the same day!! We booked ahead and Gwen really took care of us. A very personal experience. The animals are somewhat different than regular zoo animals, and the experience is a million times better than the zoo!! They were both very informative, knowledgeable and super nice! They deserve a raise for sure! The entire experience was incredible. We got to hold many reptiles and learn about them. This review is based solely on reservation experience for the public tour day. I would like to mention that Gwen, the lady handling reservations, is extremely kind and communicates in a timely manner. Any type of outdoor experience comes with the risk of cancellation due to bad weather. However, at TGR there is the additional cancellation risk of the public tour not reaching the minimum number of 12 guests. In order to wait for the last minute planners, you have to wait until after midnight the night before your tour to find out if it is cancelled or not. My party of 5 was the only booked party, and even though we booked well in advance, we still were unable to tour. Gwen reached out at 4am on the tour date via email to let me know of the cancellation. I appreciated the early morning notice, so we weren't stuck in traffic on the way hearing the bad news. She also immediately processed my refund without me having to call back and arrange it. Although we were very bummed about the cancellation, I am very impressed with the communication that we received along the way. I hope to go back soon to experience this fun tour! read more

It was expensive but well worth it. We had a tour with just 5 people in our group. It isn't just for kids. I thoroughly enjoyed being up close with the animals and touching and feeding some of them.
