    Texas Beef Ribs

BBQ heaven on wheels !!! We all loved simply everything, the ribs, pull pork and the sides (mac/cheese, coleslaw). People were attentive. One recommendation: be early ! BBQ delicatessen is available while they last.

I've been a fan of Texas BBQ since my days in San Antonio. I was a big fan of Franklin's in Austin. Owner Akil Steele was a student of Aaron Franklin when he lived in Austin. You sure can tell. This is the best example of Texas BBQ you can find in Columbus. If there were a BBQ competition, they would be a candidate for best BBQ in Ohio. I had the brisket sandwich. It was perfect, and a plus that it was served on a pan-seared buttered roll. I also bought two beef ribs (only served on weekends). They were Dino bones. Sauces are made in house and are excellent. Follow the biz on FB. Good luck Akil, see you next time.

Great little spot for some BBQ. Sets the bar pretty high for coming straight out of a food truck. Would certainly return. Service was friendly and fairly quick.

Amazing food. You can tell that meat was smoked shortly before serving. Pulled pork was really juicy (what doesn't happen to often at other places) same with brisket and the best ribs that I had so far. Here is link to follow their food truck https://streetfoodfinder.com/texassteelebbq It shows schedule and menu for each location as well. I made mistake and went to Texas Steele main location at first and there was no truck. Ooops.

WOWZERS! First off I'm not big on trying to track down food trucks around the city. First attempt trying to try this business we mistakenly went to that King Rd location listed on their website but apparently they don't operate here anymore but instead follow the money and skip around to different spots around the city. We went to www.street food finder.com and scrolled down to the T's and found their business and where and what times they'd be serving today which was fortunate for us. We got the three meat plate with ribs, brisket, pulled pork, Mac and cheese baked beans, 7up cake, and carrot cake. I've tried ALL the bbq spots in the Columbus and surrounding areas and this is THE BEST in the entire city! Ribs were fall off the bone, moist and tender. Brisket had an amazing bark taste and smoke ring and even after it had been cut you could still literally see juices flowing from the meat and glistening in the sun. Pulled pork was unctuous and melt in your mouth. Here's the kicker with these meats: they were so tender, moist, jammed packed with flavor and smoke that none of it needed a sauce! All four of their sauces tasted homemade and SIGNATURE each with a distinct flavor profile. The Mac and Cheese and Baked Beans were of the nature that you could taste, smell, and see they were made with SOUL and tender care. The 7up cake was moist and spectacular and the carrot cake was OFF THE CHAIN! Customer service was exceptional and the one guy working was swamped but overall he was a really GOOD GUY. Again, hunting down food trucks aren't our thing but after todays amazing culinary experience we will be stalking www.street food finder.com to find out where they'll be serving next to try them again when we are in the mood for BBQ! They've got a good formula for their business and quality of food and hopefully in the future maybe they'll get a brick and mortar business with the hopes that the quality does not fall off.

I have been searching for Beef Ribs aka Dino Ribs for some time across Columbus. This was my first time ever eating at Texas Steele and they delivered by exceeding expectations across the board. I arrived around 15 min before opening and the owner took the time to show me his custom smoker and all the cuts as they came off the smoker. As an amateur smoker this was heaven and I appreciate his candor and transparency in talking about his approach. He is a pro. I brought my two daughters who love great bbq and we came hungry. I had the Dino beef bone which was 1.5 lbs for one rib. It was decadent. Imagine a crossing between brisket with prime rib tenderness.... total delish but also it has quite a bit of fat. I was eating in my car so fair earning this is not for the faint of heart. I also had the pork ribs which were on point. I ordered the smoked Turkey to take home for the wife. She loved it and I concur....somehow Turkey became amazing. When ordering I told him my mom ruined me on Turkey and he said his mom made amazing Turkey. She passed on her skills because he knows how to work with Turkey in a way to cook it without drying it out. My two young daughters had pork ribs and ate until they were stuffed. They also loved the sides. Overall, he has a true gift with beef and Turkey. His pork is above average. I'll be back again...and again...and again.

I am so, so glad I didn't quit on finding this place! It's a good truck in an old parking lot at King & Kenny. The brisket is fabulous. It's juicy and flavorful. When you order, the gent who owns the place goes out to the smoker to get your food. The potato salad is some of the best I've had. The mustard bbq sauce is delicious. These words are not strong enough to convey how much I enjoyed this meal. It is absolutely awesome bbq. Eat here, you won't regret it.

I absolutely love this place. They used to be located at King and Kenny, but they've moved to Mid City Garage down in Merion Village recently. You can still see that they're smoking stuff up Kenny intersection, but you won't be able to snag any barbecue there. So far I've had spare ribs, brisket, sausage and the dino bones, and each one has been fantastic. The giant Texas beef ribs is one of the juiciest pieces of meat I've ever had, and it really is huge. The spare ribs are great too, especially if you get them in the Texas sweet candy style. The boudin and Texas garlic sausage is very tasty, but it's not my favorite item on the menu and needs one of the sauces to accompany it, because they were a bit dry. However, the Southern potato salad is addicting, and I've ate a pint of it in one sitting on a few occasions that I'm not necessarily proud of. If you're looking for some solid Texas style barbecue in Columbus, then you want to check Texas Steele out. We don't have all that many options here for this style, but luckily, they do a great job with it.

Freaking delicious. I don't think I've had brisket this good and fall-apart-in-your-mouth-y outside of actually being in Texas. The ribs were great too, as were the baked beans, and the Texas Steele sauce is amazingly flavorful. Also, the cornbread biscuit must have come from literal heaven, because OMG. Sweet and soft and chewy and wonderful. Highly recommend everything.

HUGE..Two meat platter. Brisket and pork.

BEST IN OHIO Whether you're an old school Texas BBQ stalwart or craving a little innovation this is your place. I've tried many BBQ joints including the famed Franklins and Snow's. In my humblest opinion this is a serious contender if not victor. Best ribs and brisket I have had. If you thought you were a Kansas City or Memphis style bbq fan...think again. Mr. Steele is laying down some Texas fast draw lead with this food truck. Per most truly authentic barbecue joints you're not coming here for the ambience. Nothing polished about it which adds to its allure. His passion is clearly evident when he talks about his food. Mr. Steele said if he knows that cut isn't going to be the best piece he ever put in his mouth he's not going to serve it to you. Every detail is meticulously taken into account. Down to where he sources his wood, how he cuts it, how he places it in the smoker, personality of each one of us smokers and how it burns the wood and circulates the smoke, how and when to wrap the meat, etc. But most importantly that ever sought after "sixth sense" to know when your meat is done. For pit (peet) sake he's saving those succulent brisket drippings to make homemade tortillas on his custom tortilla press in his truck. His passion is clearly cooking barbecue and if you're lucky he might even let you pay him for it. GET...HERE.....NOW.

I never would have found this BBQ if not for work. Our food truck of the week was Texas Steele BBQ today and just tried it on a whim. I'm sure glad I did! I've never had better brisket in my life! I heard they do special ribs on the weekend so I'm definitely going to track them down. The service was quick which I like on my lunch break.

WOW! I remember…read moreHoggys under their origional owner with locations all over town. Well, the owner's son is bringing the brand back and today's lunch was total nostalgia! Meat is smoked onsite, sides are all house made using the original recipies. What's new is their "chipotle syle" service ( My words not theirs). Pick your meat (pork, brisket, chicken or turkey). Available as 4 ounce or 8 ounce, your base: (salad. Sandwhich bun, on a plate (bulk) or with Mac (I assume that is mac & cheese. Then they had a case of sides. We had the green beans, corn bread, mac and cheese, cole slaw and pickles. I dont know what sides we skipped. This felt like a lot. Oh and we added a wings. 5 for $5 bucks is a deal! I ordered the wingss with BBQ dry rub. The BBQ sauce selection was also part of the process. Do you want mustard based? Vinegar? Brown Sugar? We chose brown sugar and had 2 choices: one was sweet like a Sweet Baby Rays - Cincinnati style, Ithink and the other was sweet and tangy. We each got one of each of the briwn sugar options. Hubs went with tangy BBQ sauce pulled pork sandwhich topped with slaw and pickles. And a side of mac & cheese I ordered the lean brisket (had the option for a fatty cut of meat too) with the sweet BBQ sauce Once we paid at the counter we walked our loaded trays to the table of our choice and then got our drinks from the soda machine. Also available is their origional recipe for iced tea, sweet tea and lemonade. The lemonade was phenomenal! I know I've used that adjective twice in this review. It is well deserved.) We both ordered a cornbread muffin with cinamon honey butter. I have lots to say. First too many choices especially for the BBQ sauce. Tiny samples need to be part of the experience. Im thinking a popsicle stick dipped in the sauce for me to lick would be enough to decide. My salad base included a paper boat of iceburg lettuce topped with shredded cheddar cheese and pickled red onions. I ordered it with Ranch dressing. When I added a little of that Cincinnati sweet brown sugar sauce to the salad - it elevated the salad. Next time I will ask them to chop the brisket. Today it was served as 3 large chucks that I needed to cut to eat. My husbands pulled pork sandwhich started with a freshly buttered and toasted bun. The meat was chopped, and basted with the sweet and tangy brown sugar bbq sauce. They also addded a little pork render (fat) that was chopped into the pork befire piling it on the bun. Hubs put the cole slaw and pickles on the side because he doesnt like them but I do. There were a few other topping options but at the end of the day Hubs like just sauce, meat and bun. The sandwhich was phenomenal! We both loved it. My brisket was equally delicious. Neither of us can say which one was our favorite; pulled pork or brisket. The mac and cheese was a penne type noodle tossed in a cheese sauce but this was dryer. If you want gloopy cheese sauce then this is not for you. As it was, the cheese clung to each noodle. My husband LOVED it; I prefer more of a liquid cheese sauce. The green beans were salty. I wiuld like to see less salt used in the preparation. The corn beead was exceptional! Moist with cinamon in it. Hubs said if you dont like cinnamon then this is not for you. Im not sure I tasted the cinsmon but I only had one bite. Each muffin is served with a side of honey butter. I brought mine home for my son. If he doesnt like it, hubs and I will duke it out. LOL. Update: kiddo liked it Finally the ambience. It was very apparent from signage in the parking lot that the owner saved the Hoggy's restaurant decor. Inside art work was prominently displayed a large Mona Lisa, Girl with a pearl earring and American Gothic replicas each sporting pig noses. You too can pig up your own snout for just $3 from the display table when you walk in. (See what I did there? Pig up a snout LOL). High top seats at the bar are super comfy. The restaurant also had low tops and booths. Larger tables are perfect for families or friend groups. Utensils and napkins are available table side. The utensils look to be plastic but are actually metal - do not throw them away when you clear your table. Hoghys is an absolute 5restaurant. Im so glad we went back!

Fast forward to this weekend, gave them a second try without eating lunch. That did the job. I had a bit more appetite and appreciated the food a little better than the prior week. The meats at Hoggy's are smoked for hours. There are a lot of BBQ places in Columbus and this is average for me. I liked the cheesy potatoes and broccoli salad as sides to the ribs. I agree with Mark that the sauces aren't necessary here. I ate my meats (ribs and brisket) without the sauce. There is enough flavor on the meats in my opinion. I know I will be back again soon for more BBQ. I will just have to be more open minded again to trying more.

The local group also were very excited to be getting their food, so sounds like definitely a winner to those in the know. I opted for the 2 meat and 2 side lunch. I went with the pulled pork and smoked turkey with regular bbq sauce plus collard greens and potato salad. The pork and the turkey were both rock solid. Not necessarily a ton of smoky flavor from either, but both were tender, juicy, and delicious. Unfortunately, the collards were not to my liking. I hail from western NY and I can count on one hand how many times I've had them before and only once from a true southern/soul food joint. In this instance, I found them slightly bitter with the stems still quite crunchy and the juices on the less than pleasant side. I very rarely don't finish food and I couldn't do it. However, my coworker who also got the collards said they were fantastic, so I guess it's a preference thing. The potato salad honestly wasn't my favorite either. It had like almost an acidity to it that was different and slightly interesting, but almost a little overpowering for what I normally find to be a pretty low key side (for mayo-based potato salads, anyways). This one I did finish despite it not being my all-time favorite. Overall, a pretty solid experience, especially in the meat department. Maybe I just had bad luck with the sides and need to try others next time, but that part is holding me back from this being a really solid culinary experience.
