Basically, the same kind of problems as the 2011 review. Except, more horrendous. The eye exam was overly lengthy, they measured my eyes incorrectly, and despite my explaining I use the glasses for computer work, they completely screwed up either the exam or the glasses, with the result that the glasses are unusable for reading. The distance vision they calibrated wrongly as well, and the supposed 'anti-glare' coating was not anti-glare. Hurts the eyes, to wear.
Atop that, the exam's required dilation of the eyes, resulted in my being unable to drive, so I had to have my car towed home. That cost me an added $100. So the dilation was excessive. (Past exams I've had with dilation restored vision in about 10-20 minutes, tops. This dilation's inability to see clearly enough to drive, lasted three hours.)
All this happened on 9/21. The glasses were ready on 10/4, I had them picked up on the 8th, realized that the lenses didn't fit my eyes at all, so wrote TSO website to complain. Two weeks later, someone called me three times in one week, and then CLAIMED TO but did not, email me in reply. When I called back today, they informed me I would have to go through the entire harrowing process again and then they would decide if the prescription was wrong. In short, another three hours wasted with another exam likely to prove incompetent as the first. I knew where that was heading.
If glasses are so bad you can't see out of them, the lenses should just flat be refunded. It's not like you can steal them and use them for something else. I only wanted the lenses refunded, not the exam or frames. Because, now I have to find some other optical store which is competent, and get re-examined and hence get the right lenses.
So, I told them I refused to go through this process and they responded in the same uncomprehending way as to the person in 2011's review. So, I'm out $140 on the lenses (excluding the extra $130 or so on exam and frames, with the latter being worth about half that expense).
If you received a defective product that is unusable, you should get it refunded to the extent of the unusability without having to spend that much time over again. Three hours is worth another $140. So better to only lose that money ONCE. Well, 140+100=240. Never send good money after bad.
Total cost of the exam+single-vision glasses with the alleged anti-glare coating which wasn't anti-glare -- net of alleged discounts -- was $270, absent the fiasco with the dilation. So $370, with the fiasco. That's a lot to spend. I've never had to spend that much on glasses before, not even at another TSO. The claimed price before all that, was $149 including the exam. The so-called anti-scratch coating cost an added $110. That's pricey. And of course, only potentially refundable if one submits to another exam, and that at TSO's discretion, whether to refund.
So TSO at Humble is totally incompetent and callous. I've had good experiences with other TSO stores in Galleria Houston area, but not here. The supposed justification of going to TSO rather than Walmart or some other place, is to get premium service. This is the worst eye exam I've ever had in 30 years of wearing prescription glasses; and by far the worst lenses, whether from a so-called 'cheap' place like Sam's or Walmart, or another TSO. It's the first time I've experienced a prescription or lens totally unfitted to the eye.
Avoid that TSO, or else be very wary of the place. read more
