Can't go wrong with a double cheeseburger and a side of fries. Old school dinner and great food !

This little place has been a staple here in Hanover, PA for years and years ... Hot Dogs with Chili Sauce and Cheese along with Fries. Service was quick, friendly and efficient! Food was hot and fast ! Not a fan of the onions, they mince them in an aluminum bowl and it has that strange smell. Quick place, no frills for a bite to eat ... read more

Old school style hot dog shop. Don't expect steak and lobster here. This location has been around way before I was a thought. The decor shows it too. It's very laid back. Nothing fancy. Hot dogs in this area are a tradition in this town. Service was fast and friendly. Flavor is good but you have to like this style. I would recommend this place read more

This our most favorite place to eat when in town. Tony and his father Jimmy have been serving Hanover for as long as I can remember. The hamburger or hotdog with everything (chili, mustard and onions) is not matched anywhere. The classic diner atmosphere beings back good times. If you are visiting the Hanover area this is a must go. Well done. Love this pace. read more

There're several Texas Hot Dog places in Hanover. Don't waste your time with them, head right here. My Dad came here as a child and I'm a 50 year customer. I never go to Hanover without getting a Hot Dog and fries. Best Texas Hot Weiner at a reasonable price. Also very clean an family owned. read more

Been past this restaurant for years and have wanted to stop. Today was the day we stopped. The inside reminds you of an old soda store. Small seating at bar, a few booths and couple tables. The decor is from days gone by. Our initial impression was not great with the servers. We sure didnt feel welcome. Ordered the 2 weiners loaded with fries, $11.50! We were willing to try. The weiners were smothered in onions but no taste, the weiners were grilled but not much taste, the chilli sauce was also bland. Fries were so so, tasted like the grease they were fried in. Very disappointed. Glad they have been in business for 101 years and wish them luck for the future. Obviously, this is a place for regulars. If we stop again, no weiners! read more

Best Weiners around! Consistently good service. Milk shakes are great. Very friendly owner.

DO NOT order the cheeseburger. We ordered a cheeseburger and double cheeseburger and when they came out they looked like dried up dog turds. They were tasteless and look like they had been cooked hours before. read more

Best dog shop around. Ham egg and cheese w/ everything is amazing. Service and the staff is grade A++++++

I was there last year, before covid. Had two dogs with the works. They were ok, not Fab, not extraordinary, but ok. I probably wouldn't go back. The place was clean. Service was prompt. The company was great, my companion a friend of over 50 years. read more

Texas Hot Weiner Lunch was pretty decent, it was right off the square in Hanover pa. we went down to do a tour of a snyders, utz and revonah pretzels, we also did wolfgang, perrydell, martins & harley-davidson. prices were very reasonable, it was well worth it. they ahd chili con carne and a soup of the day. both were hot. the texas hot weiner cost 1.90 per dog, and came with everything. we also got baked haddock, a cheeseburger, chicken sand., salad, tea, applesauce, macaroni salad and hot chocolate. our waitress was friendly, it took a little while to place our order though. the kitchen is exposed, right there when you walk in. it looked as if it had been in business for decades. the customers all looked like regulars and were discussing the comings and goings of the town. staff refilled out hot chocolate for free. i think it only accepts cash. we went for lunch and parked in the municipal parking lot next to it. read more

I'm so glad that I discovered Texas Hot Weiner Lunch while passing through Hanover. The establishment is an experience unto itself. With counter service overseeing the food preparation, cozy booths filled with happy patrons and memorabilia on the walls; it's a little slice of Americana and one of the classiest diners that you'll find anywhere. Obviously, they're known for their take on a regional delicacy known as The Texas Hot Weiner, so I knew I had to give it a try. Starting with the delicious Kunzler hot dog that's made in nearby Lancaster, they split and grill it on a flat top then place it in a warm soft bun and smother it with meat sauce, mustard, and a huge mound of freshly chopped onion. It looked foreboding and I have to admit that I wasn't sure how to attack the messy monstrosity, but jumped in with hands and napkins and found it to be truly unique and delightful. The sauce was dark and complex with hints of cumin, cayenne, cinnamon and paprika while the sweetness of the onions complimented the spiciness of the sauce and the saltiness of the dog. Together, all of the flavors culminated to make a truly delicious and memorable hot dog experience. Nirvana on a bun. I loved it! The shoe string fries were freshly made, hot and crispy, with just the right amount of salt. They were the perfect accompaniment to an awesome hot dog. Their prices are extremely reasonable and the service is friendly. I highly recommend Texas Hot Weiner Lunch to anyone looking for a great meal in Hanover, PA. read more

Be careful because you might have walked past this place by mistake. Amazing food, and the staff working makes you feel like you are amount family. Whenever we go into town we have to stop and at least grab 2 hotdogs and loaded fries with cheese and chili. I seriously tried to think of something not good with the food or the people but can not do that at this time. Next time you are in the mood for great comfort food, keep your eyes peeled for this place and make a point to stop. read more

The cook has no gloves on when he is making your food. I had breakfast here and it was not good at all. I put the food in the trash! Yea it's cheap but it's not worth the money. I would not go back and for people who want to go here don't! read more

Stopped by twice when my girlfriend and I visited Gettysburg! The weiners here are fantastic! Even better than many of the dogs in Chicago. Had one with chili and cheese and also had ham on a hot dog roll. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The owners were also very friendly, sharing the history of the restaurant (when I asked about the vintage menus on the walls). Definitely will be back when we visit again! read more

Yes there are three different competing weiner shops in Hanover. (Two companies) Beware of the bun steamer not working here! If it's not working: it's just not as good. 2x now I've been disappointed the steamer was "down". The staff and owner were unconcerned sadly. I've grew up in this town eating at all 3 all my life. Being from Hanover it's a foundational place, where you just need a "hotdog" fix every so often. Trust me guys. GET THAT DAMN STEAMER WORKING consistently !!! It's part of what makes your product SO DARN GOOD! read more

This is the BEST place for Hotdogs and French Fries with GRAVY! You must get a Hotdog with everything. And by everything I mean: mustard, chili and enough diced onions to choke a mule. The dogs are extremely plump, which is why they cut them down the center and fry on the grill. They are served on a sweet butter toasted roll that even has a little crunch to it. Even BETTER are the French Fries with GRAVY! Crisped to perfection, these shoestring fries are drowned in the best gravy this side of the Mississippi...well actually make that anywhere! The gravy blankets the fries until they are wilted on your fork...they just melt in your mouth! The "diner" is small and hasn't changed much in the last 30 years...Which is exactly why I like it. I do miss the old "juke boxes" that used to be at every booth...It has a bar up front with "soda fountain" stools and a bunch of booth seating. The grill is visible for everyone- so you can watch in anticipation...Oh and I really love that they use ice chips in the drinks. You also get waitresses with a side of old Hanover "sass"...free of charge :-) Did I mention this was cheap too? You can get a dog, fries w/ gravy and a drink for about $5 bucks! It just doesn't get any better than this!!!! read more

I grew up in Hanover and my 'ol man used to take me here when I was a kid. Here's how good the chili dogs are: When I moved to CA my dad would go in and get dogs "un-assembled", pack 'em up and overnite them to me. A rare treat and never as good as fresh but yeah, they are that good. Keep in mind this chili is unique. The rivalry between the Texas and the Famous in Hanover as the "best dog in town" has been going on for years. Both are great but the Texas was always my favorite. mmmmmmmmmm.....damn I wish I had one now! LOL Throw in a side of the fries please! read more

This place might just be my new obsession. I recently started working in an office right around the corner and I can already tell this restaurant will be at least a once a week lunch stop for me. The chili cheese hot dogs loaded with onions are delicious. The fries are ok, but nothing to write home about. One of the best things here are the milkshakes. Fantastic! I also like the small diner feel with the little bar you can sit up to. The grill is out in the open so you can see all the food being made. A definite 5-star dive if you are not looking for fine dining! read more

So I've tried this place twice since my friend raved about its hot dogs. Me being from DC, I rave about the world famous Ben's Chili Bowl Half Smoke and he would tell me he preferred the Texas Lunch weiner. That's a pretty bold statement. Now to anyone that has had both of these dogs, they are similar in style yet different. Both are grilled, both served with chili, mustard, cheese and onion. Ben's half smoke is a spicier meatier sausage and Texas Lunch is just a everyday mystery meat hot dog. I tried this place twice because after the first time I thought my friend was loony toons. They were probably some of the worst hot dogs I've had. The bun was left on the grill too long so it was hard, the weiner was flavorless and the dog had a weird aftertaste I couldn't quite place. I got 2 and I barely made it through 1. I will say that the chili is good hot dog/fries chili. I wouldn't eat a bowl of it straight up but on top of something it had a nice consistency and flavor. Fries were shoestrings of shoestrings but good enough with chili and cheese on them. I though I had hit it on a bad day so I went back a few months later. Sadly I was not mistaken the first time around. This time I did figure out that it was the onions that carried the weird aftertaste. I took the onions off half way through and the dog because infinitely more enjoyable. Nowhere close to Ben's but at least it was back to average and I could finish it. I actually like their style of onions too they are shaved really thin so you can pile tons on there but I don't know what they do with them. So value wise, Texas Lunch is great. My wife and I had a full lunch for under $15. Service both times was standard. Nothing to complain or rave about. Skip the onions on the dog and its passable. Maybe I need to try another one of the weiner lunch spots to see if they're any better but my friend has lost a lot of weiner credibility with me for this recommendation. And if your friend's weiner credibility is gone, who can you turn to? read more

One of those places you look forward to... milkshakes with chili dogs and fries. Highly recommend. Staff is always friendly, outgoing, and they make sure you feel at home. Family-owned business, family-run business and they do an excellent job with it. We make sure to go every time we are in Hanover and even get some chili dogs to go for later. read more

Food is over cooked, hotdogs burnt . French fries are well done Service is usually fine

One of the Top 5 Hot Dog shops in the Country as far as I'm concerned. A Famous Hot Dog is a grilled hot dog that comes with chili, mustard and onions. very tasty. Of course, I only get chili and cheese which is still very good. When I lived on the Square in Hanover, I ate here probably at least 4-5 meals a week. You can get breakfast sandwiches the same way ham, egg, cheese, chili, onions mustard on a hot dog roll. mmmmm mm m m. O and they have those cute little pony bottles of beer. ha. It can get crowded so be prepared to wait or better yet call ahead. read more

They leave the hot dogs and hamburgers on the damn grill all day. So when you go in and order one, it looks like a dried out old mans dick. Could barely bite through it, it was so tough. The Chili was good tasting and the people were nice. But they need to not let the food sit on the hot table all day. read more

The soups are never hot at the Texas Lunch, where the soups are always hot at the Famous Hot Weiner. The Milk Shakes are better at Texas Lunch than they are at Famous Hot Weiner. The Hamburgers are tough at Texas Lunch and the Hamburgers are fresh at the Famous Hot Weiner. The French Fries are better at Texas Lunch than they are at the Famous Hot Weiner. So overall they both are about the same, but have a little difference here and there. We to to both and usually alternate each time we go. read more

The fries are really good here loaded with cheese and chili. Yum. I wish they took credit. I might eat here more if they did. such a great little dive for Hanover read more

I'm not sure if it's a Hanover, Pa thing or not, but this is the 2nd Hot Dog place I've been to where there are a ton of onions on the dog. So much so that I can't really tell if there's chili or a dog underneath. Once I brush off more than half of the onions, it's still hard to taste the chili or the dog. I actually tried biting the dog without getting anything else. My thoughts? It was a bland dog that needed something. The fries with gravy were good after I salted them down, but I wish they weren't the smaller shoestring fries. The atmosphere is aged, but appropriate for an old hot dog restaurant. The cook & waitresses were very pleasant. It's not exactly what I was looking for in a chili dog, but as long as the locals like it, I'm happy for you. I guess I just grew up (near Pittsburgh) with a different kind of chili dog. ... And the search continues. read more

I love this place!!!!!!! I used to live in the apartment above the shop when I was 15 and let me tell you it was hard not to eat here. The sauce is the best that I have ever had in my life and I have tried a few and no body compares! They are always friendly and the prices are reasonable and the portions of the fries with gravy are great! I live in MA. now and I go there to visit family and that shop is always and I mean always the first place that I eat at! I tried to have another place make me a ham, egg and cheese with sauce here and it just didn't do it for me! I love this place! read more

Not to be confused with the "Famous" Hot Weiner down the street. If there's a competition between the two, Texas Hot Weiner wins this dog race, gravy down! This is a MUST if you are in the sleepy town of Hanover. Why not top off a day a in the snack food capitol of the world then a grilled to perfection dog and a plate of fries with gravy! This is one of two places I have to visit when I'm in the area. Enjoy! read more

A native of Hanover, I've been away since the early 60s. My last visit was in 1988, and I made certain we went to the Texas for lunch. Their 'Hanover hotdogs' were every bit as good as I had remembered from childhood. Just this morning, I was telling a friend in nearby MD that he should go to the Texas when he is in Hanover. While I was raving on the phone about their hotdogs, we both looked it up online to see if that my childhood haunt was still in business. Lo and behold, I was delighted to find that they are still making those delightfully tasty dogs in the same place on Carlisle Street. I've never had any better weiners. Kudos for the Texas Hot Weiner Lunch in Hanover, PA. read more

It's a Hanover staple. Hot dog with everything and a French fry with gravy!

Best hot dog shop around. Forget the "Famous." I have been coming here since I was little (30 years) and not much has changed. A dog with "everything", gravy fry, and a beer will be all you need. Great milk shakes too. I now live in Massachusetts, but I come here for lunch whenever I'm in town. read more

Went in for an early lunch, ordered a bacon cheeseburger and it was served on a hot dog roll. The burger patty was also rather small.
